EPL: United coach, Ten Hag blames three players for loss to Brighton

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has criticized three of his players following their 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

The Red Devils were hoping to build on their 1-0 victory in their Premier League opener as they traveled to the Amex Stadium.

However, a first-half goal from former United striker Danny Welbeck put Brighton in the lead. Although Amad Diallo managed to equalize, Brighton secured a late winner through João Pedro. United also had a goal from Alejandro Garnacho disallowed after Joshua Zirkzee was ruled offside.

For Brighton’s winning goal, Antony’s weak challenge allowed Simon Adingra to create space in the box. Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo, and Noussair Mazraoui failed to close down the player as the cross was delivered.

“We didn’t stop the cross,” Ten Hag remarked. “There were three players. Adingra is a right-footed player—send him down the line, send him wide instead of letting him cut in and deliver the cross. We need to address this.”

Ten Hag told MUTV: “The result is not secondary. Of course, it’s pre-season, but at Man United, there is a standard: you win games, definitely, not lose games. If you can’t win games, don’t lose like we did in the end, in the last second of the game. The performance is more important, and the performance was below standard.”

EPL: Allardyce attacks Klopp, Ten Hag over time-wasting tactics

Leeds United manager, Sam Allardyce, has verbally attacked Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp and Manchester United counterpart Erik ten Hag, saying that that they are as guilty as the rest when it comes to time-wasting tactics.

The debate over time-wasting and how many minutes the ball really spends in play has been a scorching topic across the Premier League this season.

Newcastle United have been the most criticized over this act as they continue to strive to secure a UEFA Champions League placement for next season.

Also, Klopp, Ten Hag and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta are among those to have directly flagged up their concerns on the issue.

However, Allardyce has now defended his old club Newcastle,

Speaking on the development, Allardyce said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Leeds’ Premier League tie with Newcastle United on Saturday: “Who doesn’t do it? Who complained?”

When the reporter name dropped “Klopp and Ten Hag”, Allardyce responded: “Well, he [Klopp] wastes time. He [Ten Hag] wastes time as well.”

Allardyce continued: “They all waste time in the last five minutes if they are winning 2-1. Don’t be daft.”

He added, “Rubbish, that is. We’ve been talking about the ball in play, rather than time-wasting, and whether the ball in play can be improved, but the game is ferocious and quick enough as it is.”
