Eriksen chat helped me with heart recovery – Bentaleb

Lille midfielder Nabil Bentaleb is delighted being cleared to take the pitch again after last year’s cardiac arrest.

Bentaleb suffered the heart attack playing five-a-side with friends, waking up two days later in hospital. However, he has now been cleared to play again in France.

Bentaleb said: “I didn’t believe it. I had the impression that it wasn’t real. But it was a long-term job for the whole team. Having this green light was a relief and something that allows us to plan and move forward.”

It is a success that comes after eight months of hard work, in which the former Tottenham player was supported by a medical team from all over Europe. With the support of players who have already been through this hell, such as Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen: “I spoke to him, he helped me a lot. Also another player, Adam Locker. They helped me by reassuring me on some points and warning me of what would happen.

“When I saw my teammates, it motivated me and I started playing sports again. Being away from the field, not knowing if you’ll be able to start again or not, if you’ll still be part of a team or not… That’s what hurt me and what motivated me.”

Man Utd left sweating on Eriksen injury scan

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has handed manager Erik ten Hag an injury headache.

Eriksen will undergo a scan to determine the extent of his injury after being seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches following Saturday’s FA Cup victory over Reading.

The Danish midfielder is waiting to find out how long he faces on the sidelines with concerning footage shared by a fan on Twitter showing him hobbling out of Manchester United’s home ground.

Eriksen can be seen wearing a grey protective boot and using the aid of two crutches as he exits the stadium after being caught by Reading striker Andy Carroll.

United manager Ten Hag confirmed he didn’t know how long Eriksen’s injury break could be, admitting in Saturday’s post-match press conference that a diagnosis couldn’t be made until Sunday.

The Dutchman explained: “It’s always difficult to say in this moment so short after the game has finished.

“But it’s an ankle [injury]. We have to see what is the diagnosis, so it costs us a minimum of 24 hours before we know that and then I can say more.”

Why I like watching Christian Eriksen – Schweinsteiger

Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger admits he’s been impressed by summer signing Christian Eriksen.

On his start to life at Old Trafford, Schweinsteiger told United’s club website: “He knows the league, but he knows the game – that is even more important.

“He has the vision, he has the brain, he knows when to pass the ball in the right moments.

“I really like watching him because his IQ is very high, and I love watching players who are passing the ball in the right moment to give your teammate more time to do something, and he is doing that and it is great to see.”

  • Christian Eriksen surprised me – France coach, Deschamps

Christian Eriksen surprised me – France coach, Deschamps

France national team coach, Didier Deschamps has hailed Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen after defeat to Denmark on Sunday.

The Danes won 2-0, with Deschamps impressed by Eriksen’s performance.

“There is an attacking player who even surprised me, and not just because of what had happened that could have been dramatic for him, and obviously it’s Christian Eriksen,” said Deschamps.

“But the ability that he shows with his club in the position he plays, because he has always been someone who has a remarkable technical ability.

“But to play so frequently for his club in the midfield, to see the volume of games he plays, this ability even to recover is impressive. And he has always had the ability to score goals, to make other players score – he has always had that.”

    Man Utd v Arsenal: I ‘think’ there was a free-kick – Eriksen

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is delighted about the victory over Arsenal.

The Dane was superb in Sunday’s 3-1 win.

He later told TV2: “I think we are on to something really good. It feels that way too.

“Of course we have had to work hard to get here, when you take into account how it looked after the first two games of the season. Then it is well and truly turned around.”

Arsenal had a goal denied by VAR after Gunners captain Martin Odegaard was deemed to have fouled Eriksen in the build-up.

The Dane added with a smile, “I think there is a free kick. Maybe not quite as big, but I think there is a free kick.”

  • Eriksen makes first start since cardiac arrest at Euro 2020

Eriksen makes first start since cardiac arrest at Euro 2020

Manager Thomas Frank hailed the importance of Brentford’s crucial 3-1 win at Norwich and praised the contribution of key duo Ivan Toney and Christian Eriksen.

On his first start since he suffered a cardiac arrest on June 12 at Euro 2020, Eriksen flourished.

The Dane saw his 32nd-minute corner-kick find its way to Toney at the back post to break the deadlock in Norfolk.

Hat-trick hero Toney took centre stage after half-time with a cool penalty kick after Ben Gibson had caught Bees’ captain Pontus Jansson with a high boot.

He scored another penalty kick in the 58th-minute before Teemu Pukki hit a late consolation.

Frank said: “Of course, (a) very important win. I said to the players before the game (that) ‘for me it was never a must-win game’. I know it is easy to say after, but I knew how important the game was.

“Everyone did, Norwich did, we did and two things that are very important with the win is less noise and the smiles on the faces when we come in on Monday morning will be big. So, that’s a massive thing.

“I am pleased with the players’ character, mentality and coolness in a difficult game.”

Toney’s two penalty kicks made it 18 in a row without missing and took his overall tally for the season to 11 goals in all competitions.

“I think he was not only for the three goals but in general he top performed today,” Frank added.

“You need in a game like this that your top players perform and he did that. First one a well-worked set-piece where he was in the position he had to be and then two penalty kicks.

“The second one he gets himself and I have said many, many times the more penalty kicks he scores, the closer we are to the truth that he is the best penalty kick-taker in the world with the coolness and the strategy.”

Eriksen’s influence was clear to see and he played the whole match on his full debut for the promoted side, who are now six points above the relegation zone.

Frank insisted: “It means something for Christian, he wants to do well for us and make sure we end as high as possible.

“I think he was good but I think he will be even better than this. If you ask him, I am pretty sure he will say he can be even better.

“Fantastic to see him and very important for us, of course he is. I think the delivery for the first goal was fantastic and we saw some of his passes in behind, left first time, right first time.

“He had a fantastic ball to Sergi Canos in the first half —- unbelievable. That is the bit he can give us, 100 per cent.”

Norwich manager Dean Smith bemoaned the decision not to award a penalty kick when Brandon Williams went down in the area.

That was after contact by Bryan Mbeumo in the 47th-minute with the score only 1-0.

“Big moments went against us,” the ex-Brentford manager admitted.

“We didn’t help ourselves in those big moments. For instance, we knew they were a decent set-piece team and Brandon Williams should have defended the far-post much better for the first goal.

“Ben Gibson should not give them a decision to make with a high foot and then he goes to ground.

”But on the flip side there is a big moment in the game where we should have a penalty kick and we were not given a penalty kick.

“I don’t quite understand VAR at the moment and I am not sure anybody can explain it to me. Those big moments change games.”

  • Everyone needs to let Eriksen play football – Brentford coach

Everyone needs to let Eriksen play football – Brentford coach

Brentford boss Thomas Frank believes Christian Eriksen must be allowed to get on with his game.

The Danish international, who suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch last summer at Euro 2020, got a standing ovation from everyone when he came on in the 52nd minute against Newcastle, a game they lost 2-0.

While Frank understands why fans reacted so positively to Eriksen coming onto the pitch, he believes they should now treat him as any other player in the squad.

Frank said: “I completely understand the circumstances which make Christian coming back to football a really big event.

“But now he has played his first game, he really wants to just speak about football and less about what happened in June.

“He wants to be treated like a normal football player — even though we know he will never be a normal football player because of what happened to him.

“For everyone involved in football, it was a big moment. It was fantastic to see the reception he received and it was a big moment for Christian and his family.

“Now he should only talk with his feet and speak about football instead of everything else.”

  • Conte invites Christian Eriksen to train with Tottenham

Conte invites Christian Eriksen to train with Tottenham

Manager Antonio Conte says “the door is always open” for Christian Eriksen to train at Tottenham as he chases his dream of playing at the 2022 World Cup.

Eriksen, 29, suffered cardiac arrest while playing at Euro 2020 in June and said earlier this week that he “died for five minutes” when he collapsed.

He is looking for a new club after leaving Inter Milan as rules meant he could no longer play in Serie A.

Conte said Eriksen is a “really important player” and a “top man”.

The Italian signed Eriksen from Tottenham during his time at Inter Milan.

Eriksen helped Conte win the Serie A title last season but was no longer able to represent the club as players fitted with the implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) he required after his collapse cannot compete in Serie A.

Eriksen has now been filmed striking balls on his own in training and this week said he feels “back in top shape” with an aim of playing for Denmark at the World Cup in Qatar.

Asked if Eriksen could train with Tottenham, Conte said: “For sure, it was great, it was fine, to see him on a pitch, to see that he is kicking a ball.

“What happened this summer was very not good, not good, for the people that worked with him, and the people that know him. I was scared in that moment.

“And now, to see him again ready to play football is great news. I think for Christian, the door is always open.”

  • Eriksen only banned from playing in Italy – Agent

Eriksen only banned from playing in Italy – Agent

The agent of Christian Eriksen says it is only in Italy where he cannot play.

Eriksen and Inter Milan had his contract terminated by mutual consent as he is banned from playing in Itay due to his internal defibrillator.

“Christian wants to keep training in Milan, because that is where he and his family live, but Italy is the only country in which he is officially banned from practicing sport with an implanted defibrillator,” agent Martin Schoots told Ekstra Bladet.

“He is not even allowed to go into a gym to train there. However, he feels great, all the feedback we got from physical tests are very positive. There’s no reason not to dream or hope.”

He added: “There are already four clubs who have asked for information on Christian’s situation. And yes, I can confirm a Danish side is among them.”

  • Christian Eriksen resumes training despite Serie A ban

Christian Eriksen resumes training despite Serie A ban

Inter Milan’s Christian Eriksen has started training alone at the Danish club he represented as a teenager as he continues his recovery from suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

The midfielder, 29, collapsed on the pitch when playing for Denmark in June.

The implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) device he subsequently had fitted means he is banned from playing in Italy’s Serie A.

Denmark’s Odense Boldklub (OB) said Eriksen was using their facilities.

“Eriksen reached out to us, and he is now training by himself,” said a spokesperson for OB.

“It’s natural for him since he played here in his youth and lives around the corner. We are very happy to be able to provide training facilities for him.”

Eriksen represented OB from 2005 to 2008 before joining Dutch side Ajax.

After seven years with Tottenham he joined Inter in 2020. The Italian champions have said they are prepared to let him leave the club after the country’s medical authority suspended him from playing in Serie A.
