Arteta reacts to Eriksen chance of joining Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta refused to be drawn on speculation linking the club with Christian Eriksen.

The Danish playmaker is unhappy at Inter Milan and the Italian giants are happy to part ways.

One team in need of creativity is the Gunners, who have struggled in front of goals recently.

Despite his past with Tottenham, Eriksen has been touted as the perfect player for Arteta’s side.

Asked about any interest in the 28-year-old, Arteta replied: “There are a lot of players out there that could improve any team.

“But obviously we are not going to discuss any individuals.”

Eriksen has scored four goals in 33 appearances for Inter.

  • Inter to offer Eriksen to Arsenal in return for Xhaka

Inter to offer Eriksen to Arsenal in return for Xhaka

Serie A outfit Inter Milan are interested in Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.

And Corriere dello Sport says Inter are prepared to include Christian Eriksen in their offer in January for the Swiss.

Eriksen is on the outer at Inter, having only been signed in January this year from Tottenham, and has spoken of pushing to leave himself over the winter market.

A return to North London would suit the Dane – and Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, who has been keen to add a midfield schemer in the Eriksen mould since taking charge last season.

The stumbling block could be Eriksen’s ties to Spurs, though his acrimonious departure, with fans barracking him in his final weeks before departing, could work in Arsenal’s favour.

  • Rivals need ‘more than a miracle’ to challenge Man City-Eriksen

Manchester City’s rivals have a very small chance of halting the Premier League leaders’ march to the title, Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen has said. City’s blistering start to the season has seen them go 11 points clear of second-placed Manchester United.

City are on a 16-game winning streak in the league, while Spurs are a massive 21 points behind Pep Guardiola’s side in seventh position. Eriksen, 25, conceded that Tottenham’s gap with the leaders was too wide to close but urged his team mates to improve after Spurs recorded just two wins in their last seven league games.

“I think you need more than a miracle to catch City, but we are focussed on ourselves and trying to come into a better position than we are in now. Of course we need to improve a lot but City is a long way ahead,” Eriksen told Sky Sports.

”We have shown before, with the team we have and the players we have, that we should have done better, and we could have done better.

“Now we have to prepare for Burnley and they are above us, so we need to be in top form.”

Tottenham were beaten 4-1 by City last weekend and travel to sixth-placed Burnley in the league on Saturday.
