    Euro 2024: Jan Vertonghen blamed for Belgium’s elimination

    Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has stated that Belgium’s Jan Vertonghen should be held responsible for his team’s 1-0 loss to France in their Round of 16 clash at Euro 2024.l on Monday evening.

     

    Both teams held their own in the first half in Düsseldorf, resulting in no goals.

    However, in the second half, Kolo Muani’s late strike deflected off Vertonghen and beat goalkeeper  Casteels, securing a victory for Didier Deschamps’ side.The results dented Belgium’s hopes of advancing or even  winning the tournament.

    France will play Portugal who defeated Slovenia 3-0 on penalties to advance to  the quarter Q-final of the tournament.

    The Les Blues of France advanced to the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 on Monday evening by defeating Belgium 1-0, thanks to an own goal by Jan Vertonghen in the final minutes of the encounter.

    After a goalless first half, both teams struggled to find the back of the net in the second half. It wasn’t until the 89th minute that substitute Randal Kolo Muani’s shot deflected off Vertonghen, wrong-footing goalkeeper Koen Casteels and resulting in the decisive goal.

    Jules Kounde scooped the man of the match award after his heroics in the game.

    This victory secured France’s place in the last eight of the tournament and now await the winner of Portugal vs Slovenia.

    Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice fired a barrage of insults at Slovakia coach Francesco Calzona at the end of their Euros round 16 win.

    England came from behind to win 2-1 in extra-time.

    At the final whistle, Rice and Calzona entered a shoving match with the England midfielder being held back by teammates.

    Rice called Calzona a “bald c***” at the end of the game.

    As revealed by lipreader Jeremy Freeman, a furious Rice said: “Shut up, p***y, oi, shut up, you bald c***.”

    England will meet Switzerland in the quarterfinals.

    The ongoing Euro 2024 tournament holding in Germany has produced two powerful quarter-final fixtures.

    Four teams have already scaled through to the round of 8 following Round of 16 clashes on Sunday.

    Recall that England produced an impressive comeback to beat Slovakia 2-1 in Cologne on Sunday night.

    They will now play Switzerland, who eliminated Italy thanks to a 2-0 victory yesterday.

    In the second game of the day, Spain also came from behind to wallop Georgia 4-1.

    The Spaniards will now take on hosts Germany in the quarterfinal next week.

    Meanwhile today will see France slug it out with Belgium, whilst Portugal clash with Slovenia in the round of 16.

    Spain continued to thrill with their relentless attacking play, creating numerous chances and capitalizing when Fabian Ruiz headed in a cross from 16-year-old Lamine Yamal.

     

    Despite Georgia’s spirited effort and Napoli winger Kvaratskhelia nearly scoring a spectacular goal from the halfway line, Spain’s superior possession game dominated. Nico Williams powered a shot into the roof of the net to make it 3-1, and Dani Olmo’s precise finish sealed the victory.

     

    Next up for Spain are European giants and home favorites Germany in Stuttgart on Friday, while Georgia exits the competition after an impressive run that exceeded all expectations.

     

    “This is the path we are on. Germany at home will be very strong, but we have no fear,” said Rodri about Spain’s next match. “I’m sure they will be worried about us too. We will have to play fantastically, but we are here to win, not just play well or give a good impression. We are going all out to win.”

    The Three Lions of England snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Slovakia.

     

    England narrowly escaped with a 2-1 win over Slovakia in their Euro 2024 last-16 clash, thanks to a last-gasp bicycle kick by Jude Bellingham that took the match to extra time, where Harry Kane headed the winner.

     

    Declan Rice hit the post from long range as England desperately sought an equalizer, but it wasn’t until five minutes into added time that Bellingham finally found the net, undeservedly saving the Three Lions with their first shot on target of the game. Kane then headed home in the first minute of extra time.

     

    England will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals after they knocked out defending champions Italy with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

     

    England were abject against a Slovakia team who were aggressive from the start, pressing their opponents relentlessly and taking the lead with an Ivan Schranz strike from a counter-attack in the 25th minute.

    Paris Saint Germain and Italy goalkeeper, Gianluca Donnarumma, has apologized to fans after his team crashed out of the Euro 2024.

    The defending champions  got whipped 2-0 by Switzerland in the first Round of 16 fixture on Saturday.

    Remo Freuler opened the scoring just before the break and Ruben Vargas doubled their advantage just 27 seconds after the restart.

    “We can just say sorry to our fans.

    “It’s unacceptable, we have been poor for the entire game. That’s the reality,’ Donnarumma said, according to Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter).

    “We have been terrible in the first half. It’s the reality, we have to accept that.”

    Euro 2024: Hosts Germany book Q-final ticket, beat Denmark 2-0

    Germany reached their first quarter-finals in four attempts at a major tournament, thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala, securing a 2-0 victory over Denmark in a storm-delayed and controversial match in Dortmund.

    Meteorologists had warned of severe weather in the Ruhr region ahead of the Saturday night encounter at Signal Iduna Park. As a precaution, referee Michael Oliver suspended play for 20 minutes during the first half.

    Before the suspension, Germany had a goal disallowed when Nico Schlotterbeck’s header was ruled out due to Andreas Skov Olsen being illegally blocked by Joshua Kimmich.

    Denmark’s Rasmus Hojlund missed two good chances late in the first half, but the game’s major controversy involved Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen within a span of two minutes.

    Defending champions Italy crash out of Euro 2024

    The Azurris of Italy on Saturday evening crashed out of the ongoing Euro 2024 tournament holding in Germany after losing 2-0 to Switzerland.

    Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas scored the goals that propelled Switzerland to the quarter-finals, overcoming a surprisingly weak Italian team.

    In the 37th minute,  Freuler controlled a low cross with his first touch and volleyed the ball into the bottom corner from nine yards to register the first goal of the thrilling encounter.

    Upon resumption of second half, Vargas curled  an absolute beauty into the top corner in the 46th minute.

    All efforts to score or reduce the deficit proved abortive for the Italians.

    The results meant that defending Champions Italy are out of the tournament after failing to register a goal in the round of 16 cracker against Switzerland.

    Euro 2024: Major injury blow for England ahead second round cracker with Slovakia

    The three lions of England could be without defender Kieran Trippier when they play Slovakia in the Round of 16 at the ongoing Euro 2024.

    Trippeir is a big doubt for the cracker after missing training again yesterday just two days before the match against Slovakia.

    Recall that Trippier is nursing a calf injury, but started each of England’s three matches in the tournament.

    If he is unable to prove his fitness before Sunday’s game, Gareth Southgate will turn to Ezri Konsa as a makeshift left-back ahead of Liverpool’s versatile defender Joe Gomez.

    Trippier missed training on Tuesday and again when England conducted a full training session behind closed doors, as is routine in the tournament, on Friday.
