    Euro 2024: Ivan Schranz shines as Slovakia shock Belgium 1-0

    Slovakia on Monday night shocked Belgium 1-0 at the ongoing Euro 2024 championship.

    Slovakia got an early goal and defended furiously to hold on for a 1-0 victory over Belgium in Group E.

    Ivan Schranz took advantage of a horror defensive error to put Slovakia ahead in the seventh minute and kept Belgium at bay with increasing desperation to secure an unexpected triumph at the Frankfurt Arena.

     

    Belgium’s top scorer Romelu Lukaku twice had the ball in the net but was denied after VAR checks, first for offside in the 56th minute and min from the end when Lois Openda was adjudged to have handled in the build-up before the striker swept the ball into the net.

     

    The result meant Slovakia are currently occupying the second position in Group E behind Romania while Belgium are on third position on the log.

     

    Ukraine who got thrashed 3-0 by Romania are occupying the last on the group after the first round of group E matches.

    Euro 2024: Romania thrash Ukraine 3-0 in group E opener

    After 24 years of not winning a single game at the European Championship, Romania on Monday afternoon returned to winning ways by defeating Ukraine 3-0 in group E opener.

    The captain of the side, Nicolae Stanciu gave Romania a surprise lead inside 29th minute, finding the top corner with a brilliant strike from 20 yards out.

    Upond resumption of second half, Razvan Marin then doubled the Tricolours’ lead with a long-range effort that squeezed under Ukraine goalkeeper Andriy Lunin inside 53 minutes.

    Romania rounded off the scoring four minutes later when Denis Dragus tapped in Dennis Man’s cross from close range.

    The last time Romania won at the Euros was in year 2000 where a late Ionel Ganea penalty helped them beat England 3-2 in the group stage.

    Ukraine’s players are appearing in their first major tournament since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale invasion of the country in February 2022.

    Last week, their forward Mykhailo Mudryk said his family were facing Russian missiles “day and night” in his home city of Krasnograd.

    Jude Bellingham England midfielder has broken the records initially set by Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Owen.

    After appearing for the three Lions of England against Serbia  in the ongoing Germany Euro 2024.he became the youngest player to appear at three major international tournaments.

    The 20-year-old scored the only goal of the match to give the Three Lions the victory over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.

    The Real Madrid star latched on to a deflected cross from Bukayo Saka and headed inside 13 minutes of the thrilling encounter.

    At 20 years and 353 days, Bellingham became the youngest player to appear in three major international tournaments, surpassing the previous record set by Owen (22 years and 170 days), followed by Ronaldo (23 years and 123 days).

    Erik ten Hag, Manchester United boss, has picked his favourite country to win the 2024 European championship in Germany.

    The Dutchman snubbed his country, The Netherlands, to pick England as the favourite to win the Euro 2024.

    The Dutchman insisted that the Three Lions boast of the ‘best midfield of all countries.’

    England began their Euro 2024 championship campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Serbia on Sunday.

    Ten Hag said, as quoted by The European Lad on X, “England has a fantastic squad, they are favourites for a reason.

    “They have the best midfield of all countries in the EURO’S. They got Harry Kane as their striker. On the wings, they have an incredible amount of quality.”

    Euro 2024: Bellingham shines in England’s slim margin win over Serbia

    Real Madrid midfielder, Jude Bellingham has continued his impressive form  as England beat Serbia 1-0 in their opening Euro 2024 fixture on Sunday night.

    The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder raced powerfully to head home Bukayo Saka’s cross inside 29th minute of the thrilling encounter and his goal proved to be the decider.

    The Three Lions failed to get a grip of the game in the second half and had to hold on for three points.

    With Denmark drawing 1-1 with Slovenia earlier, England shoot straight to the top of Group C.

    They have a two-point cushion before Thursday’s match with Denmark in Frankfurt.

    Euro 2024: Gakpo, Weghorst score as Netherlands beat Poland 2-1 in group D opener

    Dutch forward, Wout Weghorst clinched the winner two minutes after coming on as  the Netherlands began their Euro 2024 campaign on a winning note  with victory against Poland at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion.

    Poland were without their all-time top scorer Robert Lewandowski  due to  thigh injury but his replacement, Adam Buksa headed home the opener.

    The Netherlands had been the dominant side but missed a number of chances before Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo equalised when his deflected shot flew past Wojciech Szczesny.

    The Netherlands continued to create chances and Gakpo again had an opportunity to double the lead but missed.

    Ronald Koeman’s side continued to dominate after the break and Szczesny denied Denzel Dumfries, before exciting youngster Xavi Simons drove an effort wide after being set up by Gakpo.

    However,  Burnley striker Weghorst who came on 9 minutes from regulation time snatched the winner for the Dutch.

    It is a big win for the Netherlands with France up next for them in Group D on Friday, while Poland face Austria on the same day.

    However, before the kick off  a drama ensued, a man was shot by police close to where fans had been gathering in the city, but the game went ahead and delivered an entertaining encounter.

    The La Roja of Spain started off their Euro 2024 campaign with an emphatic 3-0 win over Croatia in Group B as Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to feature in the history of the competition.
    La Roja broke the deadlock when Alvaro Morata raced clear before producing a composed finish to open the floodlight of goals.
    Four minutes later, they doubled their lead when Fabian Ruiz bamboozled the opposition with some sharp footwork before lashing the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

    Zlatko Dalic’s team were easily sliced open by the Spanish, who are more purposeful under new boss De la Fuente than his predecessor Luis Enrique. They retain all the technical artistry but can be more direct.

    Yamal, aged 16 years and 338 days old, produced a brilliant cross which was converted by Dani Carvajal for his first international goal.

    Croatia eventually got a goal after being awarded a penalty when Rodri brought down Bruno Petkovic after a mistake by Simon.
    Petkovic’s spot-kick was saved but he converted the rebound, however the goal was chalked off for encroachment in the box by Ivan Perisic.
    The result meant Spain top group B with three points and three goal difference.

    Elsewhere, Switzerland battled their way to victory over Hungary as they made a winning start to their Euro 2024 campaign at Cologne Stadium.

    Kwadwo Duah scored his first international goal, before Michel Aebischer doubled Switzerland’s lead on the stroke of half-time.

    Barnabas Varga gave Hungary hope with 30 minutes left after the striker guided Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai’s brilliantly-weighted cross beyond Yann Sommer.

    Substitute Breel Embolo clinched the three points in stoppage time with a lovely lobbed finish over Peter Gulacsi.

    Former Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger has tipped Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Golden Boot at the ongoing  Euro 2024.

    The Euro 2024 started yesterday night as hosts Germany thrashed Scotland by 5-1 at the Alainz Arena to top group A.

    In a tweet on Platform X, Schweinsteiger responded when asked about the Golden Boot winner.

    He simply said, “Cristiano Euro 2024. ”

    The Euro 2024 is expected to be Ronaldo’s last European championship for Portugal’s national team.

    Ronaldo is already 39 years old and currently plays for Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr.

    C. Ronaldo captained the Portuguese national team to win the Euro 2016 after defeating France 1-0.

    Euro 2024: Germany demolish Scotland 5-1 in group A opener

    Euro 2024 hosts, Germany defeated Scotland by  5-1 in group A opener on Friday night at the Alianz Arena.

    The German national team had it so  easy through out the thrilling encounter, thus scoring three goals in the first half of the thrilling encounter before netting two more goals in the second 45 minutes to complete the routing.

    Among the goal  scorers were Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Niclas Fullkrug, and Emre Can.

    Evidently, Scotland struggled to keep the ball in its possession against a three-time winning Euro champion, with Germany’s possession at 73%.

    However, Antonio Rudiger turned the ball in his own net to gift the Scottish a consolation goal  in the 87th minute, thereby bringing some joy to fans of Scotland who thronged the stadium.

    Germany is currently at the top of group A with three points and five goals.

    Other teams in the group, Hungary and Switzerland, will have their first match on Saturday.

    Euro 2024: Schweinsteiger snubs own country Germany, tips France to emerge champions

    A former German international,  Bastian Schweinsteiger has tipped the Le Blues of France as the favourite to win this year’s  Euro 2024.

    Schweinsteiger made his opinion known via the Platform X on Friday morning.

    Quizzed on social media platform X regarding his favourites for the tournament, the former Manchester United midfielder picked “France.”

    France ended up  the runners-up in the 2016 edition after narrowly losing to Portugal 1-0

    However, The Le Blues made up for the trophy loss by winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup

    The previous edition of the European competition was a disappointment as they were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Switzerland on penalties,

    The Euro 2024 will commence on Friday night Today with hosts Germany slugging it out with Scotland in group A opener.

    The Azurris of Italy won the last edition of the Euros as they defeated England 4-3 on penalties.
