Calvert-Lewin bags hat trick as Everton thrash West Brom

Everton picked their second three points of the 2020/2021 season on Saturday, coming from behind at Goodison Park to beat West Brom 5-2.

West Brom’s Grady Diangana scored for the visitors first in the 10th minute before Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, scored the equaliser 21 minutes after.

Everton’s new signing James Rodriguez doubled their advantage before the break, to record his first goal in the English Premier League.

But on resumption of play, Matheus Pereira shocked Everton with an equaliser, just after two minutes of play.

This was despite West Brom playing with 10 men after defender Kieran Gibbs and also their coach, Slaven Bilic were sent off.

Bilic had protested Gibbs red card, after the player head-butted Rodriguez.

The shocking levelling goal by the visitors roused Everton from slumber, as Michael Keane re-established their lead, to make the scoreline 3-2.

Then Dominic Calvert-Lewin added two more goals, to record a hat trick for the day.

It was a game that Everton should win in any way as they had 71 percent of possession compared with 29 for West Brom. They also has 16 shots at the goal, with West Brom’s six.

And to underscore the pressure they brought to bear on their visitors, the Carlos Ancelotti boys, had 11 corner kicks.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored a hat trick saidd:

“To be honest I thought we started a bit slow, West Brom hit us on the break early, but a nice day all round for myself, the first hat trick in professional football.

“You look at the quality we’ve got on the ball it was important we utilised it with the extra man and I think we did”

Everton sign Brazil midfielder from Napoli

English Premier League (EPL) clubside Everton on Saturday said they have signed Brazil midfielder Allan from Italian side Napoli on a three-year deal.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but British media reported Everton had paid a fee of around 25 million pounds to Napoli for the 29-year-old.

Allan scored 11 goals and grabbed 16 assists in more than 200 appearances for Napoli across all competitions, helping them claim the Coppa Italia last season.

“It is a real pleasure to sign for Everton. I am immensely happy to be here,” Allan said in a club statement.

“I hope I will, like I have done in my entire career, contribute with my performances together with my teammates and that I put in some great games, great performances and win important things.”

Everton defender Michael Keane is a shock target for new Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman.

Okdiario says Koeman is planning a surprise move to bring Keane to Barcelona.

The Dutch boss was officially named as the Catalans’ new head coach on Wednesday after signing a two-year deal at the La Liga giants.

Koeman brought the England international to Goodison Park from Burnley in 2017 for an initial £25million fee.

The new Barcelona boss is keen on linking up with the centre-back again and has placed the 27-year-old on his summer shopping list.

  • Why I had to leave Barca – Yerry Mina

Why I had to leave Barca – Yerry Mina

Everton defender Yerry Mina admits he had to leave Barcelona for a regular game.

Mina spent six months with the Catalans before leaving for Everton.

“I don’t regret going there because I learned a lot. I improved as a person and as a player,” admitted Mina to Marca.

“I thought about a lot of things. I thought maybe I was finished. It got so bad that Paulinho and Coutinho kept coming over to me and saying: ‘Relax, everything is going to be okay’. That motivates you but, at the same time, demotivates you as well. You always want to play and be involved.

“I understood they had incredible players but I also wanted to have a bit of playing time. But I didn’t get it. And those few minutes I did get out on the pitch.. I played badly. I felt like everything was bringing me down, that nothing was going right, that I couldn’t even make a pass in training.

“I spent so long training to keep fit and be ready but it wasn’t like that. Everything you do when you aren’t the chosen one, at whatever club you’re at, is a very tough situation. I gave everything at Barcelona, trained hard, trained with the first team most of the time.”

Iheanacho scores as Everton beat Leicester

Kelechi Iheanacho was on target but his efforts were not enough as Everton continued their rich form under Carlo Ancelotti beating Leicester City 2-1 at Goodison Park on Wednesday. Two early first half goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson were enough to condemn Brendan Rodgers-side to their first defeat in the league since the restart.

Iheanacho got the Foxes get back into the game in the 51st minute after the ball broke to the 24 year-old in the box, Everton’s Mason Holgate tried to hook clear but it hit Iheanacho and rebounded into the net. The Super Eagles striker was on for just six minutes after replacing Harvey Barnes to score his third league goal of the season.

Iheanacho’s fellow Nigerian International teammate Ndidi Wilfred was on for the entire match, getting a yellow card in the 54th after a late tackle on Richarlison while Everton’s Alex Iwobi started the game before being replaced by Yerry Mina in the 68th minute.

Other matches played on Wednesday night saw Arsenal beat bottom side Norwich City 4-0 while Newcastle secured a 4-1 away win at free-falling Bournemouth.

  • Jurgen Klopp writes open letter to people of Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp writes open letter to people of Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has penned an open letter to the people of Liverpool – including Everton fans – after the Reds were confirmed Premier League champions.

Klopp admits it was the first time he’d written to a newspaper, but felt moved by what the club has achieved.

Published in the Liverpool Echo, the letter in part read: “I have the great privilege of being manager of Liverpool Football Club. It is a privilege that I carry with me every single day because I know that I am working for you. I knew that Liverpool was a special place before I came here almost five years ago but it is only when you get to know the people that you feel the city’s heartbeat and then you are able to realise just how special it is.

“This does not only apply to Liverpool fans either. I am obviously biased because Liverpool is my club but I am not so biased that I cannot see that Everton fans are the other side of the same coin and that the rivalry that exists is so important to the city’s identity.

“I know that this is not their favourite time and if roles were reversed it would not be our favourite time either but in Carlo Ancelotti, Everton have a great manager and a great person and I have no doubt in my mind that their improvement since he arrived will only continue. Everton is a great rival in every sense. I do not need anyone to remind me of this.

“For us to finish above Everton and the 18 other Premier League clubs is an unbelievable achievement. I respect all of them because between us we combine to make English football so competitive and so compelling that people all around the world are captivated by it.”

  • Coutinho, Malcom convinced me to reject Barca – Richarlison

Everton striker Richarlison has expanded on rejecting Barcelona when they came knocking in January.

The 23-year-old forward – who arrived for a £40m fee in the summer of 2018 under Marco Silva – was the subject of reported interest from the La Liga champions in January and claims he rejected the opportunity to move to Spain.

Richarlison has scored 13 goals for Everton this season and cited the difficulties of compatriots Malcom and Philippe Coutinho since joining Barcelona as one reason he was reluctant to leave Goodison Park.

“At the time, I think [Luis] Suarez was still injured, they needed a striker there,” the Brazilian told Canal Pilhado.

“But that’s what I said, things didn’t go forward, I was also a little moved, but that’s part of football. I’m happy here at Everton and that’s what I did. I think I made the right decision.

“It was in the middle of the league. I was doing well at Everton, I was in all the call ups from [Brazil national team boss] Tite. And like it or not it weighed a bit too, because I saw many Brazilians going to Barcelona and not settling.

“I saw Malcom going there and he only played a few games and then moved to Zenit. Coutinho, he moved to Bayern. So it weighs, like it or not.

“We’re playing well here, we’re going to the national team and suddenly you go to a club – maybe you don’t get an adequate adaptation, you go to the bench, sometimes you don’t go to a game, it weighs. So I think, as I said, I made the right decision.”

  • EPL: I do regret leaving Everton – Moyes

West Ham boss David Moyes has admitted regret quitting Everton for Manchester United in 2013.

After 11 years at Goodison Park, during which he earned much praise for his work at Everton, Moyes was appointed as United manager in 2013 as the successor to the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

Moyes’ spell at United certainly didn’t go to plan as he was sacked after less than a season.

He told Bein Sport: “I think I’ll always look back and regret leaving Everton because of the team and the players I had built at that time.

“But I’ll never be regretful for joining Manchester United or doing what I’ve done.

“I think in football we all make decisions – Andy will tell you as much as anything – some work for you, some don’t work for you.

“I think on the journey of being a football player or football manager you’re never always going to have good times. You’re always at times going to have ups and downs.”

  • BREAKING: Chelsea humiliates Everton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea produced a masterclass display to put Everton to the sword on Sunday in a 4-0 drubbing of the visitor.

Chelsea were clinical at Stamford Bridge, with two goals in each half to eclipse Everton’s hope of ever coming back into the game.

The defeat was a bitter pill for Everton’s boss, Carlo Ancelotti, who led Chelsea to the Double in 2009-10 and his first game back got off to a woeful start as Mason Mount and Pedro scored inside the opening 21 minutes.

Former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley released Pedro for the second goal and also laid off for Willian to score with a superb low strike early in the second half.

Moments later Olivier Giroud poked in from Willian’s cross to seal Chelsea’s biggest league win of the season – five days after they beat Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round.

It gave them a five-point cushion in the Champions League places – seventh-placed Manchester United host Manchester City at 16:30 GMT on Sunday – while Everton remain in 12th.

  • EPL: Resurgent Everton move seventh after Palace win

EPL: Resurgent Everton move seventh after Palace win

Everton stretched their unbeaten run to five games as a 3-1 victory over out-of-form Crystal Palace moved them up to seventh in the Premier League.

The hosts dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead when Bernard volleyed in Theo Walcott’s superb cross.

But Palace, without a win so far in 2020, fought back after the break and equalised when keeper Jordan Pickford allowed Christian Benteke’s low strike to go under his body.

Everton then had to withstand a spell of pressure from the rejuvenated visitors but restored their lead when Richarlison ran through the Palace defence and slotted into the bottom corner.

Pickford saved superbly from Benteke’s close-range header to protect the Toffees’ lead, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed victory when he prodded in after Richarlison’s header had hit the crossbar.

The win leaves Everton just one point behind fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur, who have a game in hand.

Crystal Palace remain six points above the relegation zone in 14th place, but all of those below Roy Hodgson’s side now have a game in hand.
