Manchester United have reached an agreement on salary and personal terms with Jarrad Branthwaite.

The centre half is emerging as the club’s no.1 target for the defensive position this summer. Per The Mirror and other sources, Everton will not make it easy for United to sign Branthwaite.

While he may have a deal with the Red Devils over his salary, the two clubs must agree on a fee.

United are ready to pay Branthwaite around £150,000 and £160,000 per week over a five year deal.

Everton want to ensure that any top talent leaving the club only does so for a mega fee.

EPL: Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title dim after losing 2-0 to Everton, United beat Sheffield 4-2 at Old Trafford

Liverpool Football club did their hopes of winning this season’s English Premier League title a great disservice after losing 2-0 to neighbours Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

The Reds came into the match head high after defeating Fulham 3-1 few days ago at Craven Cottage with Trent Arnold, Gravenberch and Jota getting on the scorer’s sheet.

However, Everton’s Calvin Lewin scored a goal each in both halves to ensure that the host secure all three points in their battle against Relegation.

The result put Arsenal at a vantage position to win the league title following  the Gunners thrashing of  Chelsea 6-0 at the Emirate on Tuesday.

Manchester City the other contender in the three horse race will play Brighton tomorrow at the American Express Stadium on Thursday.

The Cityzens have two outstanding matches to play and if they win the two games will overtake Arsenal on the log.

Elsewhere, Manchester United came from behind on two occasions to defeat Sheffield United 4-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

United Captain, Bruno Fernandez grabbed a brace, one from the penalty spot and another a rocket of a shot that beat the Sheffield goalie, while Granacho and Harry Maguire scored a goal each to record yet another victory for the Red Devils.

The Result leavesManchester  United on 6th position  on the log  with 60 points and are aiming to secure a continental spot next season.

But Sheffield United are rooted rock bottom with just 26 points and -42 goal difference, they  have been confirmed for relegation and will feature in the championship next season.

  • Everton lodge appeal against two-point deduction

Everton lodge appeal against two-point deduction

Everton have formally lodged an appeal against the two-point penalty imposed on the club earlier in April for breaching Premier League financial rules.

The Toffees indicated their intention to appeal last Monday, the same day the sanction was announced. The PA news agency understands that appeal has now been lodged.

The club admitted breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) for permitted losses by £16.6 million ($207 million) for the assessment period ending with the 2022-23 season.

The independent commission which imposed the sanction disclosed in the written reasons for its decision that the Premier League had initially sought a five-point penalty.

This was reduced to two by the commission, after mitigation was taken into account, notably the fact that the club was being punished twice in the same overlapping period.

In February Everton had a 10-point penalty for an earlier PSR breach reduced to six on appeal.

Everton will now be aiming to achieve a further reduction to the two-point penalty via the latest appeal.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have both now appealed against the sanctions imposed on them, and the hope for all concerned will be that both outcomes are known heading into the final round of Premier League matches on May 19.

The commission which issued the two-point penalty will also hold a separate hearing to settle a dispute between the club, and the league around costs which Everton contend are associated to the construction of their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

This dispute is not covered by the new ‘standard directions’ for dealing with PSR cases before the end of the season in which clubs are charged, so any sanction imposed would almost certainly apply next season.

EPL: Rashford, Bruno score as Manchester United defeat Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford

Manchester United kept their top four spot hopes alive after defeating Everton Football club  by 2-0 at Old Trafford, courtesy of two first half penalties.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford converted from the spot to extend Everton’s winless run in the Premier League to 11 games.

Victory takes United to within eight points of fourth-placed Aston Villa and three of Tottenham in fifth.

Defeat leaves Everton still just five points above the relegation zone, having played two more games than 18th-placed Luton.

Back-to-back defeats to Fulham and Manchester City had dented a charge from Erik ten Hag’s men towards the top four.

Breach of Rules: EPL side, Everton wins appeal, 10 points deduction reduced to six

The ten points deduction slammed on Everton football club for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, PSR, has been reduced to six following an appeal from the Merseysiders.

Recall that on November 17, the Toffees were sanctioned by an independent commission, after being found to have exceeded permitted losses by £19.5m over an assessment period ending with the 2021/2022 season.

But the Merseyside club decided to appeal the decision at the start of February.

The reduction of their punishment means that Everton will now be on 25 points, moving them up to 15th and five points above the bottom three.

“The club is also particularly pleased with the Appeal Board’s decision to overturn the original Commission’s finding that the club failed to act in utmost good faith.

“That decision, along with reducing the points deduction, was an incredibly important point of principle for the club on appeal. The Club, therefore, feels vindicated in pursuing its appeal,” an Everton statement read in part.

Haaland hits brace to send Man City top of EPL

Erling Haaland scored his first goals since November to help Manchester City see off a determined Everton side in a 2-0  win and move top of the Premier League.

The Norwegian has had to wait to find the net since his return from the foot injury that sidelined him for most of December and January, but he made up for lost time here.

His first goal was a brilliant first-time finish that gave his side a crucial breakthrough in the second half, and he made sure of the three points when he ran clear to slot past Jordan Pickford late on.

Until then, Everton’s organisation and resilience had frustrated the defending champions, who had not managed a shot on target until Haaland struck with 19 minutes to go.

The visitors failed to clear a corner and the ball fell for Haaland at the back post to smash home a fierce first-time strike that Jordan Pickford got a hand to, but could not keep out.

Haaland was not done there, and made the most of the space Everton left pushing for an equaliser when he galloped on to Kevin de Bruyne’s through-ball, held off Jarrad Branthwaite and found the bottom corner of the net.

City’s time in top spot may be limited – Liverpool can reclaim their place at the summit later on Saturday when they host Burnley at Anfield – but their return to the head of the table for the first time since 24 November is a reward for their impressive form.

This was their 10th successive win in all competitions, including the Fifa Club World Cup and FA Cup, and their sixth in a row in the Premier League.

Everton, meanwhile, remain stuck in the relegation zone and have now gone seven league games without a win.

EPL: Tottenham beat Everton 2-1, Luton down Newcastle 1-0

Tottenham Hotspurs today moved into top four of the English Premier League after beating Everton 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Brennan Johnson and then Heung-min Son scored to put scores at 2-0 inside 20 minute of the encounter.
Tottenham needed a win as they looked to leapfrog Manchester City, away after their World Cup club duties, and move into fourth spot.
Everton trailed for 82nd minute in the thrilling encounter but got one back in the encounter.
In the second half, Dominic Calvert-Lewin had an early goal chalked off for a foul in the build-up from Andre Gomes, only for the former Barcelona man to score in the 82nd minute from a corner.
Ange Postecoglou’s team then invited pressure but were able to hold on for three points.
Elsewhere, Luton defeated Newcastle United 1-0 at Kenilworth road
The hosts were the better side in the opening 10 minutes and got the first chance of the match through Townsend, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.
However, while Newcastle looked the more likely to open the scoring it was Luton who got their noses in front first against the run of play when Townsend nodded home at the back post from a well-worked corner routine.
All effort by Newcastle to level things up proved abortive as Luton ran away with a goal lead and three points.

EPL: Everton beat Chelsea 2-0, City in comeback win against Luton, Fulham thrash Wes Ham 5-0 at Craven Cottage

Everton defeated Chelsea 2-0 courtesy of goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin at Goodison Park on Sunday evening.

Doucoure scored in his 100th Premier League appearance for Everton and substitute Lewis Dobbin netted a late second goal to earn a 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday that inflicted a third away defeat in a row on the mid-table London club.

The first half ended goalless with Everton showing more threats and counter-pressing football against the Blues.

Upon resumption of the second half, Dwight McNeil surged forward with the ball on 54th minute, slipped a pass to Dominic Calvert-Lewin fired a shot but goalkeeper Robert Sanchez parried,  Doucoure was on ground to capitalize on the rebound to give Everton the opener.

After many back and forth, pressing and counter pressing football from both sides, academy product Dobbin lashed on to a loose ball from the corner to blast home the winner for the Evertonians right at the death.

Chelsea slip to 12th in the table with 19 points from 16 games, while Everton have 13 points from 16 games. Without their 10-point deduction for financial breaches, against which they have appealed, Everton would be in 10th, four points ahead of Chelsea.

Elsewhere, Manchester City snatched victory from a losing position  against Luton town at Kenilworth road on matchday 16.

Although, While being nowhere near their best, City battled back to win and are just four points off table toppers Liverpool.

Without Erling Haaland in the squad, the visitors struggled to capitalize on their possession in  the first half and, aided by some fine saves from Thomas Kaminski, kept them at bay.

Elijah Adebayo leapt above everyone else to nod home the opener just before the half-time break for the opener for Luton town.

In the second half, Man City picked up where they left off and pushed the Hatters deep. Bernardo Silva curled in a superb left-footed strike just after the hour mark to equalize before Jack Grealish slotted home the decisive goal to secure the points for the champions.

At  the Craven Cottage, West Ham United’s six-game unbeaten run came to an end in a humilatory fashion after surrendering to Fulham 5-0.

The Irons were unable to build on their stunning win at Tottenham Hotspur in midweek, as goals from Raúl Jiménez, Willian and Tosin Adarabioyo had the game all but won by the break.

Substitutes Harry Wilson and Carlos Vinícius scored the fourth and Fifth goal of the campaign to end the rout at Craven Cottage.

The result dashed West Ham’s hopes of making it to the top six of the log.

Everton appeal 10-point deduction in Premier League case

Everton Football Club has officially lodged an appeal against the unprecedented 10-point deduction imposed on them by an independent commission for financial rule breaches.

This penalty stands as the largest in the history of the Premier League.

The Toffees, while admitting the breach, expressed shock and disappointment at the severity of the punishment.

The appeal, now in the hands of the Premier League’s judicial panel, awaits the appointment of an appeal board to review the case.

Everton stated, “Everton Football Club has today lodged with the chair of the Premier League’s judicial panel its appeal of the decision by a Premier League commission to impose a 10-point deduction on the club.”

Sources reveal that Everton remains in the dark regarding the methodology employed by the independent commission to arrive at the 10-point deduction.

The club contends that a sporting penalty for financial rule breaches appears unjust, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

The appeal process will involve a panel scrutinizing the commission’s ruling, evaluating the procedural aspects and determining whether, in their opinion, the imposed penalty is justified.

This crucial review is set to conclude before the conclusion of the current football season.

The 10-point deduction has had significant ramifications, dropping Everton from 14th to 19th place in the Premier League standings.

This drastic shift has not gone unnoticed, with thousands of Everton fans staging anti-Premier League protests during Sunday’s match against Manchester United, expressing discontent with the scale of the punishment.

The outcry extends beyond the fanbase, as regional politicians, including Mayor of Liverpool Steve Rotheram and Everton season ticket-holder Mayor for Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, have raised concerns about the unprecedented nature of the penalty.

As Everton’s appeal unfolds, the football world watches closely, anticipating the outcome of this landmark case.
