Ten Hag talking absolute rubbish – Roy Keane

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag received criticism at the hands of a club legend.

Former Red Devils captain Roy Keane was not too impressed with the team’s display against Everton on Sunday, despite winning 3-0.

One incident that angered Keane was Bruno Fernandes giving a penalty to Marcus Rashford, despite being the regular taker.

“He’s giving toffee out there to Bruno for passing on the ball for the penalty. Absolute b***** rubbish. Absolute rubbish coming out with that. Manchester United are sixth now – if you went back a few years, if you were sixth you’d be embarrassed,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“But obviously they seem happy with sixth. They have a long way to go. Manchester United have to be competing with the best teams. That’s including Liverpool, [Manchester] City, Arsenal.

“Obviously you’ve got teams like Spurs having a decent spell, Villa, and of course Newcastle. They go to Newcastle next week – we’ll see what Manchester United turns up. That’s what they’re supposed to do, turn up for the big games.

“It’s not been good enough with the talent they’ve got. Look, they’ve got themselves in a nice position but the reason you’re playing for Manchester United is to compete against the top teams.”

The Athletic says Everton are keen to secure the 19-year-old to a new deal.

Okoronkwo is coming off contract in June and the Blues aim to tie him down to a long-term agreement.

  • Everybody knows ref favoured Liverpool – Pickford

Everybody knows ref favoured Liverpool – Pickford

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says the “whole world” knows Liverpool were favoured by match officials for Saturday’s 2-0 defeat.

Ashley Young was sent off, while Everton were left aggrieved by Ibrahima Konate avoiding a second yellow and also VAR granting Liverpool a penalty, converted by Mohamed Salah.

“It’s a tough day. It’s always going to be tough to come to Anfield as an Everton player,” Pickford said after the full-time whistle. “We gave it our all, worked hard and decisions definitely didn’t go our way, no shock there.

“I think the work-rate we’ve put in was second to none after going down to ten men. After about half an hour, we dug in and they created chances – like they were always going to. We put up a good fight. As a team, we’re not far off. Coming here is always a tough place, but we had a right good go and were always in the game – even with ten men. Going down to ten and the lads putting a shift in, you’re going to get tired.”

Asked if he believed Everton were on the wrong side of the officiating, Pickford told Premier League Productions: “It’s not rocket science to work it out, I think the whole world will know. We can’t comment too much because you will just get done anyway. A bit of dialogue would be nice and less arrogance would be nice as well.”

EPL: Arsenal maul Bournemouth 4-0, Luton grab first win of the season

Arsenal football club today cruised into a 4-0 win against Bournemouth  at the Vitality stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Bournemouth tried to play their heavy pressing style against Arsenal, which the Gunners passed through and around with ease.

Bukayo Saka headed home a rebound from Gabriel Jesus to put the gunners 1-0 ahead before Gunners Captain converted the second goal of the encounter from the penalty spot.

Upon resumption of the second half, Arsenal profited from another naughty Bournemouth challenge in the box, when  Ryan Christie slid in from behind to foul  Martin Ødegaard in the 18 yard box. Kai Havertz was handed the ball and he converted from the spot to put Arsenal 3-0 up.

Ben White added a fourth in added time, heading home an Ødegaard free kick.

Elsewhere, Luton Town claimed a historic first Premier League victory by shocking forlorn Everton at Goodison Park.

Luton were promoted via the Championship play-offs last season and had collected a single point from their opening five top-flight games but resisted an Everton fightback to take home all three points.

Luton took the lead when Carlton Morris’ header rattled the crossbar and, as Ashley Young looked to clear, the ball cannoned off captain Tom Lockyer and into the net.

Morris kept his composure to side-foot in a volley from Alfie Doughty’s free-kick having been left unmarked at the back post.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave the Toffees a lifeline by scoring his side’s consolation.

The result meant the Hatters have secured their first win of the season away at Goodison park.

“Marco Silva spoke to me and told me about the ambitions of the club,[Fulham], and where he wants to go,” Iwobi told the club’s official website.

“I’m on board, and I’m hoping I can bring something to Fulham. He wants me to challenge things and I feel like he gave me the confidence boost. I hope I’m able to repay the faith.”

Premier League: Aston Villa thrash Everton

Aston Villa recovered from their opening Premier League thrashing at Newcastle by thumping woeful Everton 4-0 at Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s Villa were heavily beaten 5-1 last weekend but got their campaign up and running at home with the impressive Leon Bailey having a hand in two goals.

The hosts doubled their lead on 24 minutes courtesy of Douglas Luiz’s penalty after the referee adjudged Jordan Pickford to have brought down Ollie Watkins in the box.

Villa were carving Everton open with ease and Jamaica international Bailey pounced to net their third after the break, punishing Toffees defender Michael Keane’s poor clearance.

England keeper Pickford made a stunning reaction save to deny Moussa Diaby’s thunderous volley but more shambolic defending from the away side gifted Jhon Duran a fourth.

Everton substitute Arnaut Danjuma forced Emiliano Martinez into a decent save but Sean Dyche’s side have now lost their opening two games this season.

And a wretched afternoon for the visitors was made worse with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alex Iwobi both hobbling off injured.

How Lukaku convinced me about Everton – Onana

Former Manchester United and Everton star Romelu Lukaku played a role in Amadou Onana signing for Everton a year ago.

The midfielder is now a United target, as manager Erik ten Hag seeks to bolster his midfield.

While Lukaku may not have left United on the best of terms, he played a critical role in convincing his countryman Onana to sign for Everton when they were in for him last summer.

“I know it [Everton] is a big, big club,” Onana revealed, per The Mirror.

“I know about the rivalry between Everton and Liverpool and I have heard about it from Rom [Lukaku].

“He told me all about the club. The relations between Belgians and this club have been successful so why not with me?”

EPL: Manchester City thrash Everton 3-0, inch closer to Premier League title

Manchester City’s dream of winning a treble this season came alive after the Citizens defeated Everton by 3-0 away at Goodison Park.

The Goodison Park crowd was in fine voice from the start, looking to build on the momentum from last weekend’s stunning 5-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. The hosts started well and were able to frustrate City until two quick-fire goals took the game away from them.

Ilkay Gundogan o[ened scoring for the visitors with a delightful piece of skill in the Everton box inside 37th minute two minutes after Erling Haaland  jumped very high in the box to head home the second goal for City,

Upon resumption of the second half, Gundogan again curled home a perfect free kick from the edge of the Everton box to secure the victory for his team.

It was a  perfect afternoon for Pep Guardiola’s side, who managed to rest the likes of Jack Grealish, Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva ahead of Wednesday crucial Champions League clash with Real Madrid at the Etihad.

The result meant Everton are still rooted in the relegation dug fight with just  slightly placed on 16th position of the English Premier League.

Already relegated Southampton are lying on the 20th position, while Leicester City, Leeds occupy the 19th and 18th position respectively.
