    FC Robo Queens beat Dannaz Ladies to clinch Lagos FA Cup

    FC Robo Queens of Lagos on Sunday emerged winners of the Lagos State FA Cup 2024 following an emphatic 4-1 victory over Dannaz Ladies FC.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports FC Robo Queens scored two goals through Ijamilosa Folasade in the first half while Solati Farimah scored the goal for the Dannaz Ladies.

    The thrilling match also saw the dominance by defending champions, Robo Queens, who were gunning for their 14th title.

    NAN reports that they extended their tight hold on the match as they put up a dominant performance to win the trophy with a 4-1 victory.

    Folashade Ijamilusi who netted a brace for FC Robo Queens told NAN that hard work made the difference for her team.

    “We worked hard for this competition; it is our 14th title, we wanted to prove to the rest of Lagos that we are truly the Land Ladies of Lagos,” Ijamilusi said.

    Also, the Head Coach of Robo Queens, Emmanuel Osahon, said that the team had deservedly won their trophy.

    “We won this cup for our hard work, kudos for my players for doing so well for yet again lifting the trophy to exert our clear dominance in Lagos,” Osahon said.

    NAN reports that Robo Queens also won N500,000 for lifting the trophy at stake.

    In a related event, Ikorodu City FC emerged back-to-back champions of the Lagos FA Cup in the male category by defeating city rivals, Inter FC of Lagos, 2-0 to lift the trophy for another year.

    Ikorodu FC also won N500,000 for their efforts lifting the trophy in the 2023/2024 football season.

    Harrison Uzondu for Ikorodu FC scored the first goal in the 27th minute through a header from the corner kick.

    Ikorodu, who also dominated all aspects of the game in the first half, scored their second goal in the second half through a penalty.

    The spot kick was coolly converted by Oyedokun Oluwatosin in the 59 minute.

    Harrison Uzondu of Ikorodu FC told NAN that he was happy to dedicate the result to his mother and the fans of the club.

    “We did well to win the match, last season I was not fit to play so I was not active, but this season I was fit and very active in the final game.

    “I am really happy, I dedicate this victory to my sweet mother and the rest of fans of Ikorodu FC,” Uzondu said.(

    FA Cup: Jurgen Klopp reflects on Liverpool’s loss to Manchester United

    Jurgen Klopp Liverpool manager, has reflected on their 4-3 loss to  Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final clash  on Sunday.

    The Reds had the game in the bag but failed to wrap it up in the second half of the encounter and Anthony’s equalizer in the 88th minute brought United back into the game.

    Amad Diallo then netted a last-minute winner in extra time at Old Trafford to send the Red Devils into the semi-final of the tournament.

    The loss kills off Klopp’s hopes of winning a Quadruple in his last season at Anfield.

    “We could have won the game and we would have deserved it. But United deserved it as well.

    “At 2-1 up we had so many chances to kill the game. Last pass not right, or in a rush in some moments. The rest is already history, if you want.

    “The longer the game goes, the decision-making does not get any better. Congratulations to United, going to the semi-final, we have a game less, or have two games less, and we try to use that in the next few weeks,” Klopp told ITV.

    FA Cup: Chelsea to battle Manchester City, United, Coventry face off in Wembley showdown

    The 2023/24 FA Cup semi -final draw was conducted on Sunday evening immediately after Manchester United Liverpool semi-final tie at Old Trafford.

    Manchester United defeated Liverpool 4-3 to reach the tournament’s last four.

    When it seemed the game was heading to penalty shoot-out, Young star, Amad Diallo finished off a counter-attack in the last minute of extra time to ensure the Red Devils progress to the last four.

    According to the semi-final draws, Manchester United will face Championship side Coventry city, while Chelsea have been pitched against holders Manchester City.

    All semi-final matches will be played at Wembley stadium on April 20, 2024.

    The winner of the FA Cup will represent England on the continental stage.

    FA Cup: Manchester United send Liverpool packing after 4-3 win at Old Trafford

    Manchester United on Sunday evening booked their place in the semi-final of this season’s FA Cup after defeating Liverpool 4-3 at Old Trafford.

    McTominay opened the floodlight of goals when he latched on to a rebound to put the home side in front. Midfield maestro, MacAllister equalized for Liverpool in the 35th minute when he fired a powerful shot that beat goalie, Andre Onana.

    Mohammed Salah put Liverpool in front after  latching  to a rebound in the 42nd minute of the thrilling encounter.

    Liverpool dominated proceedings in the second half of the encounter but lost concentration towards the dying minutes and got punished  for their lack of clinical finishing when Anthony fired home United’s  equalizer in the 88th minute  to  drag the game to extra time.

    Javier Elliot powered home a shot that deflected into United net  in the dying minute of first half extra time but a Darwin Nunez’s mistake ensured United equalized through Marcus Rashford.

    Young star, Amad Diallo capitalized on a counter attacking football to score the winning goal on the stroke of 12o minute to send the home fans into wild jubilations.

    Meanwhile, Diallo took off his shirt in the celebrations and was promptly shown a second yellow card and therefore a red card.

    Diallo will miss United semi-final tie at Wembley in April.

    Coventry City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all secured semi-final placement at Wembley.

    Jose Enrique, former Liverpool Defender, has predicted that Liverpool will thrash Manchester United by more than 5-0 in today’s Quarter-final  FA Cup clash.

    The match will hold at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

    Giving his verdict on the match, Erinque said on The Counter Attack Podcast (via Goal):

    “Manchester United are actually playing worse at Old Trafford than when they play away from home – it’s not the same as it used to be when I was playing.

    Chris Sutton a former Chelsea star,  has predicted the outcome of this weekend’s  FA Cup quarter-final fixtures taking place across  various centers in England.

    Defending champions Manchester City will tackle Newcastle United at the Etihad while Wolves football club will slug it out with Coventry city at the Molineux.

    Chelsea will face Leicester City at Stamford Bridge while Liverpool will clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

    Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has predicted the weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final fixtures.

    Wolves will host Coventry on Saturday afternoon while Manchester City will clash with Newcastle United at Etihad.

    Chelsea will slug it out with Leicester City at Stamford Bridge while Manchester United will face Liverpool at Old Trafford.

    FA Cup: Jack Grealish upset – Guardiola

    Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted Jack Grealish was distraught last night.

    The England winger had to come off during the team’s 6-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup fifth round.

    He was replaced by Jeremy Doku after 38 minutes, as his previous groin problem appeared to reoccur.

    “I didn’t speak to the doctor yet but I think he complained about the groin, so maybe quite similar,” admitted Guardiola to club media.

    “He felt really, really good but unfortunately he was injured again at the beginning of the game.”

    On Grealish being upset, he added: “Of course.

    “It has been a tough season for him so now he has to recover well and help us when he is able to come back.”

    FA Cup: Four English clubsides book quarter-final tickets

    Four English clubsides have secured their place in the quarter final of this season’s FA Cup tournament, after the completion of  Tuesday’s  fifth round fixtures.

    The already qualified teams are Coventry, Leicester City, Manchester City and Newcastle United.

    Leicester defeated Bournemouth 1-0 on Tuesday in an away clash.

    Man City thrashed Luton Town 6-2 as

    Erling Haaland scored five goals in City’s whitewash  of Luton Town at the Kennilworth road.

    Newcastle defeated Blackburn Rovers 4-3 via penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.

    Meanwhile, Coventry had on Monday defeated Maidstone United 5-0.

    The remaining FA Cup fifth round fixtures will continue today as Chelsea will tackle Leeds United, Manchester United will face Nottingham Forest, Brighton will clash with Wolves, while Liverpool will host Southampton.

    Defending champions,  Manchester City have been drawn away to Tottenham Hotspur.
