    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has debunked reports of error in the scoring of candidates in the just concluded 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

    The board warned the public especially candidates of the last UTME to be wary of the guile and other unsavoury activities of fraudsters who were making false claims of errors in the scoring system.

    Dr Fabian Benjamin, Head, Public Affairs and Protocol of the board made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.

    Benjamin said that the board was, therefore, maintaining for the umpteenth time, that the UTME was a Computer Based Test (CBT) that was scored electronically with no human mediation whatsoever.

    “Consequently, the unfounded rumours making the rounds are nothing but the products of the deceitful brains of the masterminds of these baseless imputations.

    “Hence, the Board reiterates that there is no room for errors in its electronic scoring system nor does it plan to organise another UTME.

    “This clarification became necessary following reports of a purported rescheduling of the UTME from a section of the social media citing phantom errors in the computer scoring system and a purported apology from JAMB to the effect that another UTME would be organised.

    “The board wishes to state that the report is not only false, mischievous but also misleading and crafted out of the frustration and inability of these fraudsters to dupe unsuspecting candidates owing to the series of innovative strategies the board had put in place to protect candidates,” he said.

    Benjamin also recalled that the board had envisaged some of the strategies of these nefarious individuals and had sounded a note of warning to the candidates and the general public alike.

    This is to preclude the possibility of them falling victims to the evil machinations of fraudsters.

    “JAMB, once again, advises the general public to disregard this item of news as it does not emanate from JAMB nor has it authorised any individual or group to make such a pronouncement on its behalf.

    “The board, therefore, advises candidates to avail themselves of its user-friendly advisories on assessing their 2022 UTME results and other processes through periodic visits to www.jamb.gov.ng.

    2022 UTME: JAMB directs candidates to begin printing notification slips

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Saturday, directed all candidates sitting for its 2022 examination to begin printing their notification slips for the exercise.

    The board gave the directive in a statement, signed by its Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in Abuja.

    JAMB said that all candidates, who registered for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) could start printing their 2022 UTME notification slips from Saturday, April 30 ahead of the exercise.

    ”The notification slip is available for printing by all candidates who had registered for the 2022 UTME scheduled to hold from Friday, 6th May 2022 to 14th May 2022.

    ”Printing of examination notification slip is compulsory for all candidates, as it enables them to know the venue, date, session and time of their examination.

    ”All candidates are advised to print slips on time so as to know the location of their examination centres, date of their scheduled sessions and time of the examination beforehand, especially with the adjustment in examination schedules this year.

    ”This would guide them in making necessary arrangements ahead of the exercise as the board frowns at lateness to its examination and no excuses would be entertained from any candidate, as a stitch in time, saves nine.”

    The board said that printing of slips could be done at any available internet point, private or public while adding that candidates were to visit https://www.jamb.gov.ng, click on 2022 UTME slip printing, insert registration number and print.

    The board also said that the slip contained candidates’ important details such as registration number, examination centre within their chosen examination town and the expected time to be at the centre.

    JAMB reiterated that all candidates would be checked into the examination hall using the Biometric Verification Machine (BVM) which was also a register of attendance, in line with its “No biometric verification, no examination” policy.

    JAMB said: “Candidates are also to note that no examination would be rescheduled for whatever reason

    “Therefore, all candidates are advised to prepare ahead and stay close to their examination venues, if possible, they should pay a prior visit to their centres before the date of the examination.

    ”Candidates are also reminded that the ban on prohibited items is still in force.

    ”Therefore, candidates should be careful not to run foul of the law as necessary sanctions would be meted out to violators of its code of conduct.

    “The list of the banned items within the examination hall includes but not limited to; flash drives, smartwatches, calculators, recorders, mobile phones, spy reading glasses, jewellery, among others.”

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called on prospective candidates to disregard advertisements in the social media announcing sales of registration documents with some illegal centres and subject combinations.

    The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos.

    He said: “It has come to the notice of the board that some fraudsters have listed out centres for the examination and in the process, inserted some illegal ones.

    “Let me state here that all the processes concerning the board can only be done by approved Computer Based Centres (CBT).”

    According to Benjamin, over 700 centres have so far been accredited for the conduct of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled to commence on March 16.

    He said JAMB would soon publish the list of all approved centres in all its state offices nationwide to guide prospective candidates in choosing centres nearest to them.

    He announced that the sales of registration documents for the examination would commence on Jan. 10.

    “Already the list of over 700 accredited centres for this examination has been uploaded on our website.

    “But we have not published any advert concerning all the processes, we are hoping to do so soon.

    “Precisely before the commencement of the sales of the forms just as we will paste the list of all the accredited CBT centres at all our state offices nationwide.

    “This is to guide the candidates towards the examination processes in order not to fall prey to these fraudsters who are bent on finding ways of causing pains to innocent Nigerians,” Benjamin said.

    He said candidates can also go to Google Play Store on their mobile phones to download the JAMB IBASS for authentic information, especially as regards subject and course combinations, among others.

    JAMB: 321 visually impaired candidates to take 2017 UTME

    The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said it has registered 321 visually impaired candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

    The Head, JAMB Information and Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Bwari.

    Benjamin said that the figure was higher than the 201 candidates registered for the examination in 2016.

    He said that adequate arrangement has been made for the visually impaired candidates to participate fully in the forthcoming UTME.

    According to him, the board used to conduct the Computer Based Test (CBT) using Braille Apex Machine, but most of them complained about its usage.

    “They said they do not know how to use these machines: we are going to bring all visually impaired persons to come and write the exam in a particular location.

    “It could be Digital Bridge in Lagos or Digital Bridge in Abuja.

    “One of the things we have always done for them is to ensure that the few of them that meet the minimum requirement get it.

    “We encourage universities to admit them; we also give them courses that they want to read, so that we can give room for inclusiveness.

    “So that is our preparation as it relates to visually impaired candidates; they are 321 that is 18 per cent of the 1.7 million candidates that registered for this year’s UTME,” the JAMB’s spokesman said.

    The visually impaired candidates who sat for the 2015/2016 UTME practiced with the Braille Apex machine at their respective centres a day before the main examination.

    The practice was also done in the 2015 edition of the UTME through the use of CBT platform.

    He explained that the Board often encourage universities to offer admission to visually impaired candidates who met the basic requirement, saying that 2017 will not be an exception.

    Benjamin said plans were underway to employ the services of experts in the field of education, to be able to achieve the desired goal.

    “We will get some of Nigeria’s best hands in some of those various subjects that they are going to write; these are professors, and people with integrity.

    “They will sit down together with the visually impaired candidates; ask the candidates questions, assess them and then rate them, so it is that rating that will be used for admission purposes.”

    On preparation to hold the UTME on May 13, he said all hands were on deck to conduct a hitch free exercise.

    He noted that the Board did not receive any complaint about irregularity in the course of registration of candidates, as being alleged in certain quarters.

    “There is no complaint from anybody; we have passed the stage of registration, we registered 1.7 million candidates, so if there are issues, we will not have arrived at that number.

    “The hitches that we had were experienced at the initial stage of registration, which was basically as a result of non-compliance with our instruction.

    “We have made necessary effort to ensure that those instructions are adhered to, there is no complain as regards registration again across the country,” he added.

    He, however, said that the posting of candidates to their various examination centers would start from Tuesday May 9.
