Fabio Capello draws Osimhen, Haaland comparison

Italian football legend and former AC Milan manager, Fabio Capello has said that Victor Osimhen and Erling Haaland share the same similarities.

Both players have enjoyed moment playing as point man for Manchester City and Napoli respectively.

Osimhen has scored 28 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for newly crowned Serie A champions Napoli.

The 24-year-old is now the highest-scoring African in the Italian top-flight after surpassing the old mark set by former AC Milan striker, George Weah.

Norway international, Haaland has netted 51 times in 47 appearances across all competitions for Manchester City.

The forward recently broke the record for most goals scored in a single season in the Premier League.

“I don’t think Haaland is under pressure, because he has anger inside,” Capello told Sky Italia per Napoli Magazine.

“He lives for goals. Osimhen has the same thing, they live for this. They fight, they want to win, they help their teammates and they transmit this determination that makes you win games.”

  • Ronaldo liked women and parties – Fabio Capello

Ronaldo liked women and parties – Fabio Capello

Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello says offloading Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario sparked their amazing comeback for the 2006/07 LaLiga title triumph.

Ronaldo was allowed to leave for AC Milan that January.

Capello recalled: “The decision to fire Ronaldo and sign (Antonio) Cassano helped create a winning spirit in the team.

“We won nine points back from Barcelona in the final stretch of ten games and I’m still proud of that today. I remember Silvio Berlusconi calling me to ask me how was Ronaldo.

“I told him that he didn’t even train and that he really liked parties and women, so hiring him for Milan would be a mistake.

“The next day I saw the newspaper headlines: ‘Ronaldo in Milan’. It was a lot of fun.”

Capello also said at the Festival dello Sport in Trento: “What is beauty in football for me? Scoring after three passes, for example. Beauty is also getting the result based on the players you have at your disposal. Beauty is also the sudden genius of footballers like Messi, for example.

“Two players who embody beauty: Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi, because they transformed difficulties into easy things. They had personality and they transmitted it to the public, they managed to make an impact.”

  • How I managed to sign Roberto Carlos to Real Madrid – Capello

How I managed to sign Roberto Carlos to Real Madrid – Capello

Former Italian manager Fabio Capello has lifted the lid on signing Robert Carlos for Real Madrid.

The left-back was with Inter Milan in 1996, but was being played out of position and wasn’t happy.

When Capello learned that the player and the club were willing to accept a transfer, he pounced at the opportunity.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Capello explained on Sky Italia.

“Giovanni Branchini told me they were going to sell him and I thought ‘how can Inter be about to sell Roberto Carlos?’.

“Because I didn’t believe it, they sent me a fax with the price and it wasn’t an unquestionable sum, so I called the Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz and told him to fly straight to Milan. I explained that all Italian teams would go for him once the news got out.

“By 23:00, the contract was ready. In less than 24 minutes.”

Capello then made a joke about Roberto Carlos’ current physical state, as he enjoys life as a pundit.

“I wouldn’t have signed him if he were as fat as he is now!” the Italian said.

Real Madrid losing Casemiro a bonus for Atalanta – Capello

Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has identified Casemiro as the key to Zinedine Zidane’s team.

Atalanta are at Real Madrid tonight for the second-leg of their Champions League round 16 tie needing to overcome a 1-0 deficit.

And Capello believes losing Casemiro to suspension will hurt Real: “He is fundamental for Zidane, he is a complete midfielder.

“Casemiro is dangerous inside the box with his headers and the other two midfielders are always comfortable when he plays because they have more attacking duties.

“I coached [Marcel] Desailly and I can say Casemiro is just the same.”

  • I’d only swap Dybala for Harry Kane – Capello

I’d only swap Dybala for Harry Kane – Capello

Former Juventus coach Fabio Capello says they must keep hold of Paulo Dybala.

With new contract talks dragging on and Dybala struggling for form, the Argentine has been linked with a big sale this season.

But Capello told Gazzetta dello Sport: “The explanation is Covid. The virus leaves residues especially for someone like Dybala who needs to be at the top to express himself at his best.

“To find him he has to get back to 100% physically. Dybala looks like (Dejan) Savicevic even if the Argentine is better at finishing and less at assisting his teammates.

“If I had to change him with someone, who would I change him with? For an answer, I look to England and think of (Tottenham striker) Harry Kane.”

  • Transfer: Lautaro Martinez warned against Barca move

Transfer: Lautaro Martinez warned against Barca move

Fabio Capello praised Inter star Lautaro Martinez, but warned the forward it was better to be starting at the Serie A club than being on the bench at Barcelona.

Lautaro has been linked with a move to the La Liga giants, having scored 16 goals in 31 games for Inter this season.

While Capello is impressed by the Argentina international, the former Real Madrid and Juventus head coach said Lautaro would face a challenge to break into Barcelona’s starting side.

“Lautaro Martinez is a very good player,” he told El Larguero.

“He has everything – a lot of quality, very fast moves and also he’s very good when he shoots on goal.

“Going to Barcelona and becoming a starter with Luis Suarez there is difficult. I think it is better to be a starter at Inter than a substitute at Barcelona.”

  • Players should stage sit-down protests against racism – Capello

Footballers in Italy’s Serie A should stage sit-down protests on the pitch if there is racist chanting during a match, former Juventus coach Fabio Capello suggested on Monday.

Italian football has struggled to stop racist behaviour by fans.

The problem returned to the spotlight on Boxing Day when Napoli’s Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly was taunted during a match against Inter Milan at San Siro.

Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti said his team would walk off the pitch if there was a repeat, leading to a debate as to whether teams should take the law into their own hands.

Inter Milan were ordered to play two home matches behind closed doors but Koulibaly also banned for two games, after being sent off for dissent late in the game.

This sparked criticism that Serie A punishes the victims as much as the culprits.

Ancelotti blamed Koulibaly’s loss of temper on the treatment he received from the crowd.

“The players should sit down on the pitch, and they shouldn’t be punished for doing it,” Capello who was also at AC Milan and Real Madrid said in a radio interview with state broadcaster RAI.

“That would help the fans who are behaving and want to watch football and force those guilty of animal noises to stop and feel ashamed of what they’re doing.”

Capello, who also coached England and Russia during his long career, added that the hardcore “Ultras’’ had too much power in Italian football.

“Italy is the only place where the ultras run the show and the players go the curve (stands) to wave at them,” he said.

The 72-year-old added that “85 to 90 percent of Italian fans are important — not these gentlemen with their banners, slogans and too much power given to them by the clubs.”

Match officials in Italy are expected to report racist incidents to public security officials who have the power to stop games, although that did not happen during the Inter-Napoli match.

The guidelines were introduced in 2013 after the AC Milan team walked off the field during a friendly match in protest at racist insults aimed at several of their players.

There was another outcry two years ago after Ghanaian player Sulley Muntari was booked and then sent off after complaining about racist abuse while playing for Pescara at Cagliari.

  • Former England manager Fabio Capello leaves Chinese club Jiangsu Suning

Former England manager Fabio Capello has left his role with Chinese club Jiangsu Suning by mutual agreement, according to Sky in Italy.

Capello had been in charge of the Chinese Super League side since June 2017, and will be replaced by Romanian Cosmin Olaroiu who has agreed a three-year contract.

The Italian leaves Jiangsu Suning following a poor start to the season with club languishing 12th in the league after picking up just three points in their first three games.

The recent 4-1 loss to Chongqing Dangdai prompted owner Lifan Zhang Jindong, who also has a major stake with Inter Milan, to take action and replace Capello with Olaroiut.Capello’s departure from management in China could put the former England boss in line for a return to international football with Italy, who are currently looking for a replacement for Gian Piero Ventura.

Other names linked with the Italy job are Zenit St Petersburg coach Roberto Mancini, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, former Leicester coach Claudio Ranieri, now in charge of French club Nantes, and Carlo Ancelotti, who is available after being sacked by Bayern Munich.
