Delta PRO Edafe sends important message to couples in violent marriages

A Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bright Edafe, has urged a couple in a violent marriage to separate, emphasizing that marriage is not compulsory.

Edafe, who is the Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, expressed his concerns in a Twitter post on Sunday, September, 7th 2025.

He questioned why a couple would remain together when their relationship is clearly not working. He emphasized that there is no justification for staying in a union plagued by domestic violence, highlighting that their children, for whom they might want to stay together, would prefer to have their parents alive.

In his words: ‘‘Say No to domestic v!olence. Having a family is important but marriage is not by force. Why stay in a v!olent marriage. It’s either the man or the woman d!es and for the kids, it’s a lose-lose situation. There’s absolutely no reason to say “ I am in the marriage because of my kids”. Your kids want you alive’’
