    Truck kills family of 9 in their house in Benue

    The Benue Command of the Nigerian Police Force says a truck ran into a residential compound in Okete Village, Otukpo Local Government Area, and killed nine members of a family.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Sewuese Anene confirmed the incident to NAN on Thursday in Makurdi.

    Anene said that the unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

    The PPRO said that the command has launched a full investigation into the incident and further information would be made available to newsmen.

    Lagbaja embarks on final journey on Friday –says family

    The late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, is set to be buried in Abuja on Friday.

    His immediate elder brother, Moshood Lagbaja, made the announcement during a condolence visit by the St. Charles Grammar School Osogbo Old Boys Association (SCOBA) in Osogbo, Osun State.

    Moshood Lagbaja shared that while the military has not released the remains to the family, they have assured that Lt. Gen. Lagbaja will receive a fitting burial in Abuja.

    During the visit, a condolence letter was presented to the family by the SCOBA delegation, which was signed by the Global President, Tade Adekunle, and General Secretary, Leye Odetoyinbo. The delegation was led by Engineer Adesina Salami, the 1st Vice President of SCOBA.

    Salami praised the late general, describing him as “an exceptional individual, a proud Charlean, and a distinguished military leader who served the nation with unwavering dedication.” He added, “Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s remarkable life, selfless service, and enduring legacy inspire us. He made an unforgettable impact on the Charlean Family Worldwide.”

    He concluded with words of comfort for the grieving family: “May the Almighty God’s peace, love, and strength sustain you as you navigate this difficult time. May the cherished memories of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja continue to inspire generations to come.”

    The family of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has appealed to organizations and individuals planning to mark the first anniversary of his death to suspend their plans.

     

    In a statement signed by a member of the family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, the family emphasized their preference for a quiet period of mourning rather than reopening old wounds.

     

    “It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organizations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas.

     

    “The late singer is yet to be buried. As such, the family would wish the public to join them in prayers at his anniversary rather than organize any elaborate event that will affect their emotions,” the statement said.

     

    The statement was issued in response to reports that certain individuals and organizations might be planning to use Mohbad’s memory for commercial purposes during the anniversary.

     

    The family urged the groups to reconsider their plans and seek proper approval before proceeding.

     

    “It is no longer news that some individuals and organizations have been planning to carry out events to commemorate the late singer’s death. We will appeal to such persons and organizations to seek proper approval from the family before going on with such plans. The Aloba family would not wish the goodwill of their illustrious son to be employed for commercial purposes,” the statement added.

     

    The family has urged individuals and organizations to respect their wishes and join them in prayers during this difficult time.

     

    Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 under mysterious circumstances, which has continued to spark public concerns.

    The Nigerian Police Force has paraded members of a family for torturing a 13-year-old girl with hot water and pepper over N5000 theft.

    The commissioner of police in the state David Iloyanomon disclosed this to journalists at the police headquarters in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.

    According to him, the state command had received a complaint on the 1st of July, 2024 at Yorro Division, that one Bulus Bitonopa tortured one Bridget Samuel, causing temporal paralysis of her hands while one Hon. Cleopas, took the victim to his house in Jalingo in a bid to conceal the crime, failed to take the victim to the Hospital and resisted police intervention.

    A visit to the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo showed that the 13-year-old girl, may not use two of her hands henceforth following the act of torture.

    According to her, two of her uncles tied her two hands with a black rubber, dipped them into a bowl of hot water, and added pepper and sand to it.

    She is falsely accused of stealing ₦5000 from the purse of the uncle’s wife.

    She narrates, ” They tied me around 3:00 PM until around 11:00 AM the following day when another uncle of mine stepped in, untied me and took me to a nearby clinic for medical attention.

    Meanwhile, at least 38 persons suspected to be kidnappers, armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms have been arrested by the police in the state.

    A breakdown of the suspects and their involvements according to the police commissioner reveals that 12 out of the 38 suspects have been charged to court, with 26 others under investigation.

    He revealed that while acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with local vigilante groups apprehended six kidnapping syndicates On 20th June 2024.

    According to him, one AK-47 rifle and 20 rounds of 6.62mm live ammunition, 3 SMG rifles with 20 rounds of live ammunition, one mark4 rifle with 10 rounds of live ammunition, and one starlet vehicle, were recovered as exhibits and all suspects made confessional statements of involvement in the commission of the crimes.

    ” On 4th July 2024, police operatives attached to SID in collaboration with FIDSTS from Abuja arrested one Saidu Sale of Ibi local government area who conspired with his cohorts and kidnapped a lady and collected the sum of 1,500,000 as ransom”

    Famous singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as  Davido, has revealed that his family is responsible for distributing electricity to a major portion of Nigeria.

    The ‘Assurance’ crooner said that his family owns four power plants, which significantly contribute to Nigeria’s energy needs.

    The artiste gave this revelation while appearing on an American podcast, ‘Business Untitled,’ Davido spoke on his family business and personal investments.

    He said, “I once tried to go into cryptocurrency because Nigeria is big on crypto. Apart from that, me and my family have like four power plants worth a lot of money. We distribute energy to most of Nigeria.

    While Davido is from a wealthy family with investments in the energy sector, many observers will disagree with his claims that his family supplies most of Nigeria’s energy needs.

    Family of late Junior Pope releases burial dateThe family of the late Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo has released the funeral arrangements for his burial.

    Junior Pope and four other actors drowned after their boat capsized in the Anam River in Anambra State on April 10 while returning from a movie shoot.

    Of the 12 individuals who boarded the ill-fated boat, only seven were rescued alive, while five died, including Junior Pope.

    The details of funeral arrangements for the late actor, signed by Divine Odonwodo on behalf of the family, indicated that besides the April 23 requiem mass at Saint John-Mary Vianney Parish in Asaba, Delta State, another requiem mass is scheduled to be held at Christ the King Catholic Parish, G.R.A., Enugu, on May 13.

    On May 14, an evening of tributes and candlelight will follow at Amadeo Event Centre in Enugu at 5 pm. A wake will follow on May 16 at his country home in Uwala Abaka, Ukehe, a community in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of the state.

    Pope will be buried on Friday, May 17, at his country home after a burial mass at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ukehe. Interment will follow immediately after the burial of the actor.

    The burial arrangements will be wrapped up with a thanksgiving mass at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ukehe, on May 20.

    The younger brother of the deceased, Oladapo Akintelure, said he died at the age of 61 in a Lagos hospital on Tuesday morning after a sudden sickness.
