Alleged attempted murder: Police to re-arraign Fani-Kayode’s estranged wife

A Federal High Court, Abuja has fixed Friday for the re-arraignment of Precious Chikwendu on allegations bordering on attempted murder of her former husband, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and children.

Chikwendu, alongside others, will be re-arraigned by the police authorities before Justice Inyang Ekwo on a 14-count charge.

Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter shortly after the police prosecutor, John Ijagbemi, applied for the amended charge to be read to defendants for them to take their plea.

But the judge said that the re-arraignment would not go on today.

He then adjourned the case until Friday for their pleas to be taken.

Other defendants in the trial include Emmanuel Anakan, Prisca Chikwendu and Osakwe Azubuike as 1st, 3rd and 4th defendants respectively, while others are said to be at large.

The four defendants were earlier arraigned before the court on Feb. 14 on 13 counts.

According to reports, Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation, was the nominal complainant in the matter.

But in an amended charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/01/2022 dated and filed by John Ijagbemi on behalf of Commissioner of Police, FCT Command on April 22,, the ex-wife was said to have committed attempted culpable homicide on Nov. 24, 2018.

She was alleged to have carried two kitchen knives threatening to kill Fani-Kayode, the children and other occupants of the house at Asokoro within the court jurisdiction.

An offence said to be punishable under Section 229 of the Penal Code Law.

She was also accused of making false allegations on Nov. 24, 2018 with doctored pictures with intent to deceive members of the public and make them believe that the injuries in the pictures were inflicted on her by her ex-husband.

Besides, Chikwendu was alleged to have “criminally uploaded doctored/photo-shopped pictures” of her biological child, Liam Femi Fani-Kayode, who was four years old, in order to deceive Reyes members of the public that the child sustained injury on his forehead.

According to the charge, the offence is punishable under Section 24 (1) (b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act 2015.

The defendants were further alleged to have committed offences bordering on cybercrime, intimidation to kill the former minister by use of Internet.

They were also alleged to have criminally used internet to send abusive messages with intent to bully, defame and harass her ex-husband.

They were alleged to have fabricated false evidence by deposing to series of affidavits that Chief Fani-Kayode physically and sexually assaulted members of his domestics staff in inhuman conduct by causing same to be electronically published in a national daily.

Chikwendu was also alleged to have, through her Facebook page, referred to Fani-Kayode as “Mr Short Fuse,” on Dec. 7, 2021, among others.

In a related development, NAN also reports that the ex-wife was, on March 10, arraigned before a sister court presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu on alleged defamation of character filed by former lawmaker, Sen. Grace Bent.

Chikwendu, who was accused of infidelity by the former minister, was also said to have withdrawn various civil cases filed against Fani-Kayode.

Although the duo had parted ways, the former minister said Chikwendu had always been given access to her children under closed supervision due to her alleged mental challenges which could result to hurting the children.

Fani-Kayode had also alleged that the ex-beauty queen stopped calling the children on telephone for some months now contrary to her habit in the past.

Alleged forgery: Judge expresses displeasure over delay in Fani-Kayode’s trial

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of an Ikeja Special Offences Court has expressed displeasure over the delay in the trial of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode for allegedly forgery.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fani-Kayode, along with former minister of State for Finance, Mrs Nemadi Usman were facing trial for alleged money laundering and diversion of N4.9 billion at a Federal HIgh Court in 2018

The prosecution alleged that the former minister had allegedly brought several medical reports to stall the case.

On investigation by the EFCC, the anti-graft agency found the medical reports allegedly obtained by the former minister from several government hospitals to be fake.

On Dec. 17, 2021, the EFCC arraigned Fani-Kayode before the special offences court for allegedly procuring execution of documents by false pretence; use of false documents, fabricating evidence and use of fabricated evidence.

At Friday’s proceedings, Justice. Abike – Fadipe frowned at the prosecution and the defence counsel for wasting the time of the court as the trial could not commence.

Abike-Fadipe enquired from the EFCC counsel, Mrs Bilikisu Buhari about the amended charge the anti-graft agency had sought to file against the former minister.

Buhari, in her response, said that the EFCC had not taken any action on the amended charge.

Defence counsel, Mr Wale Balogun, also told the judge he had not filed an application to get a copy of the proof of evidence from the EFCC because the EFCC had not amended it charge.

The judge said the parties in the suit had wasted precious judicial time of the court, noting that Balogun ought to have applied for the proof of evidence without waiting for the EFCC’s amended charge.

The judge adjourned the case until Feb. 23 for commencement of trial.

Alleged Money Laundering: EFCC re-arraigns Fani-Kayode, Usman, others

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC on Monday, re-arraigned a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on an amended 17-count charge of money laundering.

Fani-Kayode is charged alongside a former Minister of State for Finance, Nenandi Usman, before a Federal High Court in Lagos .

Also charged is Yusuf Danjuma, a former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Jointrust Dimentions Nigeria Ltd.

The EFCC had earlier preferred a 17-count charge of N4.6 billion money laundering against the defendants before the former trial judge, Justice Mohammed Aikawa.

The defendants had each pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail.

Hearing of the case had begun before Justice Aikawa and witnesses were being led in evidence, before the trial judge was transferred out of the Lagos division.

The case was consequently assigned to a new judge, Justice Daniel Osaigor, and the defendants had to start the case from the beginning (de nouvo).

On Monday, the amended 17-count charge was read over to the defendants and they each pleaded not guilty to the charge

After pleas, the Prosecution counsel, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), prayed the court for a trial date.

The Defence counsel, Chief Ferdinard Orbih (SAN), however, urge the court to allow the defendants to continue on the existing bail conditions granted by the former trial judge.

In a short ruling, the court allowed the defendants to continue on their existing bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until March 11, for trial.

In the charge, the defendants were alleged to have committed the offences between January and March 2015 in Lagos.

They were alleged to have at various times, unlawfully retained over N4.6 billion, which they reasonably ought to have known formed part of the proceeds of unlawful acts of stealing and corruption.

In counts 15 to17, Fani-Kayode and one Olubode Oke, who is said to be at large, were alleged to have made cash payments of about N30 million to one Paste Poster Co (PPC) of No 125 Lewis St., Lagos.

The said payments were alleged to have been made in excess of amounts allowed by law without going through a financial institution.

All offences were said to have contravened the provisions of sections 15 (3) (4), 16 (2) (b), and 16 (5) of the Money Laundering (prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012.

Ex-Senator drags estranged wife of Fani-Kayode to court

A former senator, Mrs Grace Bent has dragged Precious Chikwendu, estranged wife of former Aviation Minister, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode to the Federal High Court, Abuja over alleged defamation of character.

When the matter was called on Monday, however, Chikwendu was absent in court and there was no legal representation on her behalf.

Mr Joseph Offor who announced his appearance for the prosecution said that he was holding the brief of Mr Victor Okoye who was away in Lagos.

Offor told the court that he had little information about the case and so could not explain why Chikwendu and her legal team were absent in court.

The trial judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu subsequently adjourned the matter until March 10 for arraignment.

Chikwendu, an ex-beauty queen had, through her social media handle, accused Bent of using the police to intimidate her with regards to the feud between her and her former husband.

Bent, however, in a statement, described the allegation as “very weighty” adding that she was consulting with her legal team and would not hesitate to seek appropriate legal redress.

Bent, who is a close friend and longtime political associate of Fani-Kayode, has debunked the allegations, describing it as a “very weighty” one that carries “assassination tendencies and intendment.”

Alleged forgery: Fani-Kayode pleads not guilty, granted N5m bail

The Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has granted bail to a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, in the sum of N5 million.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe granted the bail on Friday following an oral application made by the counsel to the former minister, Wale Balogun.

The bail conditions included that the defendant must fill an undertaking to attend all his trial dates and to present a surety in like sum, who must be resident in the court’s jurisdiction and should also fill an undertaking that the defendant would attend all hearings.

Before the court heard the bail application, Justice Abike-Fadipe first ruled on an application by the former minister challenging the powers of the jurisdiction of the court to try him on the charge of forgery and procurement of a ‘fabricated’ medical report made against him by the Economic and Crimes Commission (EFCC).

It dismissed the objections of the defence counsel and held that it had jurisdiction to try the case. This paved the way for Fani-Kayode to be arraigned on all 12 counts of alleged forgery of medical reports to which he pleaded not guilty.

The anti-graft agency had specifically accused Fani-Kayode of procuring one Dr Ogieva Oziegbe to issue the fake medical report, which he allegedly tendered before the Federal High Court where is currently standing trial before Justice Daniel Osiagor for money laundering allegation.

But the former minister had, through his lawyer, submitted that the alleged offence was said to have occurred in Abuja and not in Lagos, and the court lacked the powers to try him.

Relying on Sections 374 and 396 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, as well as section 23 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State amended in October 2021, Justice Abike-Fadipe held that the purpose of these provisions of the law was to ensure speedy dispensation of justice and to reduce delay tactics often used by defendants to stall criminal trials brought against them.

The judge also noted that the arguments raised by the defence counsel, that the charges fell outside the scope of the EFCC prosecuting the matter, showed that it was challenging the validity of the charges which fell within the jurisdiction of the court.

Fani-Kayode says estranged wife suffering from ‘bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia’, keeps mum on impotency allegations

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Thursday said his estranged wife is suffering from “bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia.”

Fani-Kayode, through his counsel, Ayodeji Sunday Ibikunle, said Miss Precious Chikwendu, is mentally unstable.

Precious had this week told an Abuja High Court that all her four children with the former aviation minister were conceived through artificial insemination.

The former beauty queen alleged that the former minister had erectile dysfunction which made her to remain celibate during the cohabitation.

She claimed that she did not have sex with Fani-Kayode throughout their six-year relationship.

In a statement made available newsman, the former minister ignored all the allegations, but only rained abuses on her former wife.

“We are constrained to point out the fact that Miss Precious Chikwendu, the former partner of our client Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Sadaukin Shinkafi, is suffering from bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia and we acknowledge the fact that she is totally insane.

“Ordinarily we cannot be expected to respond to the crass, filthy, delusional, sallacious, disgraceful and absurd allegations of an insane person.

“We appreciate the fact that Precious is clinically unstable, is as mad as a hatter and is prone to telling monstrous lies and making delusional statements.

“A glaring example of her degenerating mental state is the pernicious and specious lie and diabolical fabrication from the pit of hell that any of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode’s sons is suffering from COVID-19 or that any of them has head injuries. And neither is it true that his lawyers made any such claims in court or elsewhere.

“Precious Chikwendu, who has made these sinister and cruel claims about her own children, is not only heartless, dangerous and delusional but is also nothing but a pathological liar with a troubled and twisted mind that is in urgent need of medical attention.

“Other than to make the above clarification we will continue to ignore her rantings, falsehood and mendacious fabrications and to pray for her recovery.

Meanwhile we will meet her in court where she will be exposed for who and what she is and what she suffers from.”

I never had sex with Fani-Kayode for six years- Estranged wife declares

Precious Chikwendu, estranged wife of Femi Fani-Kayode has revealed to a customary court in Abuja that she was forced to remain celibate for six years during their cohabitation because the former minister could not perform.

She said the four children she birthed in her affair with him were conceived via artificial insemination.

The former beauty queen made the shocking disclosure in papers filed at a Customary Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in which she seeks an order to have access to her children.

Chikwendu filed the application through her counsel, Mr Abiodun Olusanya, informing the court that she had information that one of the kids – who were all said to be in Fani-Kayode’s custody – was injured in the head.

In the suit marked FCT/CCK8/01/043/2021, Chikwendu told the court that Fani-Kayode never consummated his six-year relationship with her.

She prayed the court to declare that she was never married to Fani-Kayode because, contrary to his claims, he neither paid her bride price nor performed customary or statutory marriage rites with her.

She averred that in the course of their cohabitation, she found out that despite Fani-Kayode’s denial, his marriage to his third wife, Regina, subsisted.

She accused him of assaulting her several times, ordering his bodyguards to strip, lock her up in her room.

In the suit marked FCT/CCK8/01/043/2021, Chikwendu told the court that Fani-Kayode never consummated his six-year relationship with her.

“At every attempt, the petitioner made to have sexual intercourse with the respondent, there was never erection of the respondent’s penis/manhood and penetration was frustrating.

“During such periods of frustration and sexual desire, the petitioner would be left with the choice of merely rubbing herself on the respondent, to have the slightest bit of relief.

“The petitioner then insisted parties should seek medical help for the respondent, and on visiting the family doctor, the respondent claimed he was diagnosed of having a cyst on his penis/manhood, which is not allowing the respondent to have erection and or perform sexually,

“The respondent was supposedly placed on cyprotab and the doctor suggested that the respondent should go and decide when he wishes to remove/untangle the cyst.

“Few days after the visit to the doctor, the respondent informed the petitioner that he had discussed with Regina and she had prayed over it, that the respondent should not do the operation, else he would die.

“The respondent never took the cyprotab medication, but any time the petitioner tried to engage the respondent in sexual activities, the respondent would claim his penis/manhood was paining him and then drink the medication.

“The petitioner bought intimacy gadgets for the respondent, but the respondent refused to use it and warned the petitioner never to suggest it again.”
