Just in: Why I kept silent on my wife’s infidelity, ‘madness’ for 7 years – Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said his kids stopped him from exposing his wife’s alleged infidelity.

The PDP chieftain who warned his estranged wife to stop releasing damaging scandals geared towards the destruction of their children’s future said he was pushed to open up on her alleged infidelity on Saturday.

Recall that Fani-Kayode had alleged that he caught his wife in bed with a married man. He said this while responding to a video which surfaced online of him allegedly abusing his estranged wife.

However, in a series of tweet on Sunday, Fani-Kayode said there were facts, witnesses, and evidence available for the courts.

“I have chosen to take the high horse and I refuse to allow my estranged wife to turn the affairs of my personal life into a public circus. If she has any issues, let her use the right medium as a responsible adult and mother and stop secretly feeding the media with damaging scandals geared towards the destruction of our children’s future.

“I have kept quite in order to protect my children, I have covered all her madness over the past 7 years & not once did I expose her. But the facts are there & the witnesses & evidence are readily available for the courts.

“I broke my silence yesterday only because my hand has been forced. Rather than focusing on the problem of brutality & evil plaguing our country, or the myriad of other issues holding citizens hostage, some people would prefer to spread and partake in what amounts to celebrity gossip & chopped videos. Who in Nigeria does this benefit? What is the use?

“Those involved in this smear campaign are begging for further responses which I will not give them. My private relationship & any disagreements therein are just that: PRIVATE.

“I have learned my lesson on feeding into parasocial media culture.

My children & their dignity comes first & I refuse to help these individuals tarnish their image any further. The ringleader of this media scandal and his/her collaborators may continue polluting news.”

Fani-Kayode seen with another lady, reacts to reports of marrying another wife

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has denied reports that he is set to take another wife.

There have been speculations that the former Minister is set to marry another lady who goes by the name, Halima.

The rumor became strong following the crash of his marriage to former beauty queen, Precious Chikwendu.

However, Fani-Kayode in a post via his Twitter account on yesterday, said the reports of him remarrying are false and misleading.

He also said that Halima, like many others, has been a source of comfort to him during his trying times.

“There have been wild speculations in the social media that I am planning to get married again. This is false.

“Miss Halima Yusuf, who has been cited as my fiancée, is simply a dear friend and confidante who I have the utmost respect for and who I hold in high esteem.

“She, together with others, has been a source of immense comfort for me and mine at this time and for this, I am eternally grateful to her.

“I appeal to all those peddling the falsehood that we are about to get married to please desist from doing so,” he said.

Fani-Kayode’s estranged wife turns to God amid marital crisis

Precious Chikwendu, the estranged wife of Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, has taken to her Instagram page to share a bible verse amid the crisis rocking her marriage.

TheNewsGuru recalls that on Thursday, reports had surfaced that Fani-Kayode split with Chikwendu, a mother of three, after six years of marriage.

At about the same time when news of her separation from the ex-minister flooded the public domain, Chikwendu appeared to have turned to God for consolation.

The ex-beauty queen took to her Instagram page on Thursday evening to share a beautiful photo of her alongside a scriptural message — in what seemed to be a consolatory post.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CFPo–dF1bw/

In the cryptic post, she embraced quotes from Psalm 126:1-3 which talked about great things that happened after the “Lord turned again the captivity of Zion”.

“When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter,” she wrote without speaking on the divorce.

“And our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.”

In the same vein Okey Onyemachi, Precious’ uncle, had debunked claims of domestic violence occurring between the estranged couple.

“I’m only aware of when she had to pull the knife. She videotaped it, and was making all sorts of comments and allegations. I felt it was when she had a swing,” he had said.

“The police came, they tried and pleaded. The testimony I got that made me leave Owerri, where I stay, for Abuja was that efforts were made by the female police officer who led the team.

“They persuaded her to calm down. She was shouting. We had to go back to get a reinforcement. There was a doctor who also came and tried to assist in various ways until she was gotten down.

“Hefty men were brought. She tried to stab those who came, including my sister and Femi himself. Certain statements were being made, false allegations of someone wanting to set up some things.”

Fani-Kayode separates from wife, Precious Chikwendu

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and his ex-beauty queen wife, Precious Chikwendu, have separated.

The couple, who are parents to four sons, including a set of two-year-old triplets, got married in 2014.

There are speculations that the union hit the rock irreversibly due to a health challenge which Ms Chikwendu has been trying to cope with since they became a couple.

According to a family source, the health issue posed a serious challenge and the couple later became separated. The source also maintained that they had countless disagreements over ‘‘unapproved outings.’’

The family source said, ‘‘Snowwhite was fond of going out without Fani-Kayode’s permission and he could no longer tolerate it’.’

The source also denied reports that the union broke down due to domestic violence allegedly meted out to the ex-beauty queen by the ex- former minister.

In a chat with this Premium Times, Chikwendu’s uncle, Okey Onyemachi, also denied allegations that the marriage hit the rocks as a result of domestic violence.

He said, ‘‘I never witnessed any domestic violence incident but I am aware that they are separated and are not staying together as we speak, but reports of domestic violence are very funny and malicious.

“I am unhappy about the reports and my major concern is the children and why people are cooking up fake stories. The allegations that the kids aren’t chief’s is a big lie and unthinkable. Precious is my niece and I can confirm that all these stories are false.’’

Precious, who is fondly referred to as Snow White, is a model, actress and former beauty queen.

She represented Nigeria at the Miss United Nations World Beauty pageant in 2014.

  • Eyo Charles: That Fani-Kayode ‘bluffing’ suit (2)

Eyo Charles: That Fani-Kayode ‘bluffing’ suit (2)

    By Ehichioya Ezomon
Events in the recent bust-up between former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and Journalist Eyo Charles, have developed in rapidity as to upend my initial plot for the second in this serial.
I had planned a focus on the right of the Press to hold those in power, both in public and private, accountable to the people, and what’s required of the Reporter to achieving that goal.
But all the while, I had a feeling that the Fani-Kayode-Charles matter wouldn’t go away even with Fani-Kayode’s expression of “regrets” for his unwarranted humiliation of Mr Charles.
And I had barely sent in my copy for the August 31 edition, when news broke that Fani-Kayode had tendered an “apology,” and many across the country were queuing to “beg for his forgiveness.”
Fani-Kayode words: “I am using this opportunity to reach out to him (Eyo Charles) and I hope he will be kind enough to forgive me. I disappointed myself, my family and friends, my colleagues, and even my bosses, those who hold me in high esteem.
“I have regrets; it was not my finest day. No leader or public figure should ever react like that. I disappointed myself. I deeply regret it and I believe it will never happen again.”
It’s a soulful rendition, which, ordinarily, should’ve melted a stone-heart. And the media played it up with a photograph of Fani-Kayode, hand supporting his jaw, in a pensive, sorrowful mood.
Yet, I wasn’t sold on it because in the show of “remorse,” Fani-Kayode still labelled Charles’ question as a “mischief” that he fell for, adding, “I should have been smarter than that.”
Hence, I reminded, in particular, his sympathisers in the media, that like a sore thumb, or the fabled tortoise, any matter involving Fani-Kayode, going by his persona, couldn’t be wished away by mere expression of “regrets” for his action.
I insisted that Fani-Kayode wasn’t one to be “down and out” on account of condemnation, and showing a contrition; and that before long, he would stage another blameable comeback.
My prediction came within 48 hours, as Fani-Kayode threatened to slam a N6 billion suit against Daily Trust Media, publishers of Daily Trust, whose correspondent in Cross River he had called “stupid” for asking who’s “bankrolling” his national trips.
In an article by one Iliyasu Gadu, Daily Trust attacked Fani-Kayode, from his alleged deviation from the character and learning of the elite schools he attended; his reported drug addiction; an unstable political life; betrayal and disrespect of benefactors; and intolerance of criticism, such as he regularly visited on other people.
Summing up, Daily Trust urged that if the journalism profession in Nigeria has any modicum of honour at all, it must put Fani-Kayode in his place “as an example to all who dare to treat it with levity.”
Many have queried the Daily Trust attack on Fani-Kayode after he had “apologised” for his indiscretion. But what about his peddling of acquaintances with the Daily Trust publishers, which he boasted he would exploit, “in a few minutes,” for Charles to be fired?
No responsible and respectable organisation can ignore such public insult and odium: That an outsider can capitalise on a relationship to influence the firing of members of their staff.
The Fani-Kayode contrivance strikes at the heart of Daily Trust publishers’ reputation and integrity, which they could only repudiate by giving to him his kind of poison to shallow.
But like the leopard that cannot change its spots, Fani-Kayode has resorted to a tit-for-tat, via a law suit of N6 billion in damages, over a “spurious publication aimed at denigrating his person.” The “defendants,” Daily Trust and Mr Gadu, have 14 days to comply.
Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, Adeola Adesipe, rationalised his demand: “Be aware that our client has not only suffered immeasurable loss of goodwill, he is currently confronted with unbearable opprobrium by his fans, followers and colleagues across the globe.
“Our client is alive to his rights both in law and equity but is disposed to an opportunity to undo the evil you have done by retracting the said insalubrious remarks on the same platform it was published and apologising to him in two other national dailies.”
Those who go to equity must come with clean hands. Are Fani-Kayode’s hands clean in putting down Charles, for asking a simple question? He has opened a front that Charles, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and Daily Trust Media should also explore.
So, as a counter poise, the trio should take out writs that dwarf Fani-Kayode’s tongue-in-cheek demand of N6 billion, for which he has asked for negotiations with him.
Negotiations for what? Is he bluffing, and hiding behind alleged character assassination to deploy legal instruments to hush, and halt the continued focus on his encounter with Charles?
By the way, who between Fani-Kayode and Charles is “wronged” in the running battle of wits? Daily Trust’s vitriol against Fani-Kayode was a response to his unprovoked attacks on Charles.
Consider Fani-Kayode’s diatribe, as shown in a viral video of the event, following Charles’ innocuous question: “Sir, please you did not disclose to us who is bankrolling you…”
Cutting Charles off mid sentence, a raging Fani-Kayode exploded: “How dare you ask me such a very stupid question? I know that you, a hungry-looking, brown-envelop journalist… are sponsored to ask me such insulting question…
“You are very stupid. I know your publishers. I will call them in the next few minutes. You have to be fired… I am saying this on live TV. What type of stupid question is that? Do you know who you are talking to?… Go and report yourself to your publisher.
“I could see from your face before you got here, how stupid you are. Don’t ever talk to me like that… You have a small mind, very small mind. Don’t judge me by your own standards.
“I have been in politics since 1990… I have been persecuted unlike most of the politicians you follow for brown envelop. Don’t ever judge me by that standard…”
Check the operative words in Fani-Kayode vituperations: Stupid (brainless, dull, dumb, foolish, idiotic, moronic, unintelligent). Brown-envelop journalist (a bribe-taker, a criminal). Small mind (biased, bigoted, petty, short-sighted). Person of low standards.
If Fani-Kayode could pour such venom on Charles, and vowed to render him unemployed, why couldn’t he also take Daily Trust’s characterisation of him with equanimity, and apologise to the medium, as Charles did to him in Calabar?
By threatening court action against Daily Trust Media and Iliyasu Gadu, Fani-Kayode exhibits a trait of dishing out insults, but cannot receive in equal measure. Talk of developing a thin skin while expecting others to grow thick skin!
The aphorism is: If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you can’t take the beat, don’t take the rap. If you can’t take criticism, don’t criticise others. If you don’t like things said about you, don’t say things about other people.
Not accepting Daily Trust’s recrimination as an atonement for his attacks on Charles shows Fani-Kayode’s “regrets” weren’t genuine, but forced and offered in bad faith. Daily Trust should call his bluff, or commence legal actions against him. Enough of his shenanigans!

  • Eyo Charles: Between Fani-Kayode and Ladoja (1), By Ehichioya Ezomon

Eyo Charles: Between Fani-Kayode and Ladoja (1), By Ehichioya Ezomon

    By Ehichioya Ezomon
Aftermath of the encounter of journalist Eyo Charles with former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, in Calabar the other day, a few things have emerged: Fani-Kayode “losing his cool” is a pattern with journalists; and retribution has quickly caught up with him.
Firstly, two videos have reportedly surfaced, indicating that Fani-Kayode has a history of “berating and insulting” journalists in his dealings with members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm. As I haven’t seen the videos, I withhold my comments on them.
Secondly, the Akwa Ibom council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday, August 28, 2020, asked its members to boycott a scheduled press conference, and any activities by Fani-Kayode in the state.
A statement by the council’s chairman, Emos Etuk, and secretary, Dominic Akpan, said the decision was “in line with the disposition” of the national body, adding that “the NUJ is not part of the visit.”
Thirdly, the brush of citizen Charles with Fani-Kayode has similarity, some years ago, with the exchanges between journalist Wale Ojo-Lanre and former Governor Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo State.
But while Fani-Kayode flaunted his “bigmanism” to bully Mr Charles, a correspondent of Daily Trust in Cross River State, Senator Ladoja used Mr Ojo-Lanre to bolster his image at a media session at the Nigerian Tribune’s boardroom in Ibadan.
As part of his nationwide tour to “peer-review” achievements of state governors, Fani-Kayode visited Cross River, and after the days-long “inspection of projects” of the Governor Ben Ayade administration, he called a press briefing.
When it’s time to field questions from the newsmen, and Charles was cued, he asked Fani-Kayode: “Sir, please you did not disclose to us who is bankrolling you…”
Stopping the journalist midstream, Fani-Kayode, in a viral video, blew his top: “How dare you ask me such a very stupid question? I know that you, a hungry-looking, brown-envelop journalist… are sponsored to ask me such insulting question…
“It is very insulting, and I cannot take that. You are very stupid. I know your publishers. I will call them in the next few minutes. You have to be fired.”
It took the apologies of the frightened journalist and his colleagues to mollify Fani-Kayode. If Charles were within reach, an enraged Fani-Kayode could “slap the hell out of him” or grab him by the collar and throw him across the room.
Let’s rewind to when Ladoja sought to be governor, and had an interactive session with newsmen at the Tribune. It’s Ojo-Lanre’s turn to shoot his question, and it’s a demolition punch.
He asked: “Senator Ladoja, you look so dull, drab, unattractive, unintelligent and without colour. Do you think a dullard like you can be a reasonable governor of Oyo State where sharper minds have tried unsuccessfully?”
Have you heard such a line of questioning? Certainly not in my professional training, and practice of journalism spanning over 40 years! And what did Ladoja do?
Ojo-Lanre, comparing Fani-Kayode’s outburst to Charles’ harmless poser and Ladoja’s measured response to his blistering question, relayed what followed, now trending on social media.
According to the account, Senator Ladoja looked up, smiled, and said: “Ojo-Lanre, thank you for your question. True, I am not a handsome man by my look (but) I don’t labour much before a lady falls for me. You know my wives are cute. Check them out!
“And if you think I am dull and unintelligent, Ojo-Lanre, you are correct but you will agree with me that Olivet High, Oyo, is one of the best secondary schools in Nigeria with a strict form of admission to their schools, particularly when you want to join them at Class Four. I was the first to be admitted to join at Class Four because I was so dull and unintelligent.
“And also, my being an unintelligent fellow helped me to pass all my subjects with ‘A’s which forced the Federal Government to buffet me with a FG Scholarship to Belgium, to study Petroleum Engineering…
“Also, I have used my unattractive (persona) to run intercontinental maritime companies successfully since I went into private endeavours.”
Ojo-Lanre said there’s “deafening applause for a wise man,” even as he said he “quickly ran to the Computers Department (of Nigerian Tribune) to supervise my pages.”
Ojo-Lanre added: “Ladoja, who toured the Tribune, met me at the Computer Section, shook my hand and looked at my face and said: ‘Ojo-Lanre, I like the way you forced me to blow my trumpet. I respect your style.’ … And since that day, we have been friends.”
Forgive this rather lengthy anecdotal; it’s to demonstrate that empty vessels, the likes of Fani-Kayode, actually make the loudest noise in Nigeria’s political space.
As Ojo-Lanre surmised: “Senator Ladoja is a great man. You can only give what you have. Don’t blame Femi Fani-Kayode (over his tirade and humiliation of journalist Charles). Bibire ko se fowo ra (literally: “Money can’t buy good person or character”).
Imagine what Fani-Kayode could do to citizen Charles were the journalist to ask any question with a semblance of the embarrassing one posed by Ojo-Lanre to Senator Ladoja!
If Fani-Kayode isn’t full of himself, as his shouts of “Do you know who I am” portrays, he could dismiss Charles’ question with a laughter, such as, “Common, nobody is bankrolling me. You know I can afford such travels out of pocket.”
The deepest cut, though, is his belated offer of induced “regrets,” denying his bust-up with the reporter. He said: “I met with my advisors till late last night and I wish to say the following. I hereby withdraw the word ‘stupid’ which I used in my encounter with a journalist in Calabar.
“I have many friends in the media, who I offended by losing my cool and using such words. I hereby express my regrets for doing so. I hope that this will assuage the pain and anger of anyone that was hurt or offended by this ugly episode.”
Fani-Kayode’s “regrets,” forced by his lawyers and associates, weren’t directed at Mr. Charles, other journalists at the briefing, the Cross River NUJ and its national body, and the general public.
Renowned journalist, communications strategist, marketer and varsity lecturer, Chido Nwakanma, characterised Fani-Kayode’s after-thought “regrets” as not an apology, but an “apologia,” which’s “a defence, especially of one’s opinions, position, or actions.”
Rather than offer a sincere apology, Fani-Kayode doubled down, because he and like-cohorts think journalism is a public relations stuff that pampers or fawns on news sources.
It gladdens the heart, though, that Charles’ publishers didn’t throw him under the bus, to ingratiate Fani-Kayode’s acquaintances with them. The newspaper has placed Charles’ safety under Fani-Kayode’s canopy, as a deterrence to politicians’ uncouth behaviours to and actions against journalists.

Group to honour reporter assaulted by Fani-Kayode with ‘Resilient Journalist’ award

The Sha’aya’u S-Pawa Foundation, a political group in Zamfara state, says arrangements are in top gear to give an award of ‘Resilient Journalist’ to Mr Eyo Charles, the Media Trust representative , assaulted by a former Aviation minister in line of duty.
News Agency of Nigetia (NAN) reports that Charles was the journalist that was verbally assaulted by a former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani -Kayode in Calabar, Cross River at a media conference.
He had accused the journalist who sought to know in a question who was bankrolling his programme.
He has however since tendered a public apology for the verbal attack.
The group in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Foundation, Alhaji Sha’aya Sarkin Fawa in Gusau on Friday, said that the group saw the maturity with which Charles handled his attacker that attracted the foundation , “we feel he deserves strong respect and recognition”.
The group also said that “Fani-Kayode had earlier visited the Zamfara and left on its tray some controversies that are still fresh in the memory of the people.
“The good journalist posture displayed by Charles gives more hope and believe to Nigerians that we still have good media professionals in the country.
“As Nigerians, we strongly believe that if the former minister is truly the activist he claims, he should come out in the public domain and answer the question asked by Charles,” the group said.
According to the group, we will organise a befitting ceremony to give this award very soon after we reach out to Charles.

‘I Disappointed Myself’: Fani-Kayode apologises for harassing journalist in Calabar

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has apologised for his outburst towards a journalist during a recent press conference in Calabar.

Fani Kayode also apologised to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, family members, friends, and colleagues of the Daily Trust reporter.

Speaking on Friday during a press conference at the Government House in Uyo, the ex-minister said he disappointed himself and everyone, noting that his reaction was undefendable.

“I’m deeply sorry for the manner I reacted to the said reporter. I was too hard on him. The question was mischievous, but I fell for it,” he said.

“I should have been smarter than that. I am using this opportunity to reach out to him, and I hope he will be kind enough to forgive me.”

“I disappointed myself, my family and friends, my colleagues, and even my bosses, those who hold me in high esteem.

“I have regrets, it was not my finest day. No leader or public figure should ever react like that. I disappointed myself. I deeply regret it and I believe it will never happen again.”

This comes barely three days after Fani-Kayode branded the reporter ‘stupid’.

The reporter had asked Fani-Kayode who was “bankrolling” his recent tour of several southern states, a question that got the ex-minister angry.

The NUJ and Daily Trust had condemned Fani-Kayode for his comments.

  • NUJ shames Fani-Kayode, mandates journalists to shun his press conference in Uyo

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Akwa Ibom chapter has directed its members to boycott a press conference planned for Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation.

In a statement on Friday, the chapter asked journalists not to attend any activity organised by the former minister.

Fani-Kayode announced his arrival in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, on Thursday.

Amos Etuk, the state NUJ chairman, said the decision to boycott any activity organised by Fani-Kayode was in line with the stance of the NUJ national leadership.

He said: “In line with the disposition of the national leadership of our great union, the State Council has directed that no journalist should attend a media parley with Femi Fani-Kayode or any of his activity at any location in Akwa Ibom State.

“The NUJ is not part of the visit.”

This came days after Fani-Kayode insulted a journalist for asking him what he described as a “stupid question” at a press conference after his tour of Cross River state.

The ex-minister, who began a tour of some states, especially those controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) states in July, visited Cross River last week.

At a press conference in Calabar, Cross River state capital, Eyo Charles, a journalist with Daily Trust, had asked a question about who was bankrolling Fani-Kayode’s trip.

The former minister felt offended by the question and went ahead to insult the journalist, referring to him as “very stupid”.

“I could see from your face before you got here, how stupid you are. Don’t ever talk to me like that. Who do you think you’re talking to. Bankroll who? You think I am one of those ones you… from who, when, how? You have a small mind, a very small mind. Don’t judge me by your own standards,” he had said.
