Xhaka to Arsenal fans: Why we’ll never be ‘best friends’

Granit Xhaka has admitted that while he and Arsenal supporters may never be “best friends,” he feels “much more love” from the Emirates faithful than in years gone by.

The Swiss was infamously stripped of the captaincy by former manager Unai Emery after clashing with fans.

Speaking to The Athletic, Xhaka outlined his belief that they are growing closer.

“People were good with me,” he said. “Of course they might say something – that is part of our life.

“But after what happened two years ago we were very far from each other.

“I think we are step by step coming closer and closer. I don’t believe we will be best friends.

“But what I can tell people is from the first day until the last day I am here I will do everything for the football club.”

He went on to add: “I will make mistakes because everyone does. We are not perfect.

“But I will give 100 per cent in every training session and every game. This is my message to the fans.

“Sometimes you have misunderstandings and I believe this was the only reason for the problem we had between us.

“I feel much more love than one or two years ago but it is a slow process we have to do with each other.”

Stop reading meaning to everything, Toyin Abraham urges fans

Nollywood star, Toyin Abraham, on Monday urged her fans to stop reading meaning to everything as they prepare for the new year.

The actress took to her Instagram page to encourage her fans to do whatever makes them happy in 2022.

She wrote, “I know a lot of people will be listing their new year resolutions. However, I just want to drop a friendly reminder as we go into the new year. Whatever you do, do you!

“Do what makes you happy. Help people, support people, come through when you are needed, go where you are wanted, do everything you want to do because at the end of the day, you will be alone in the grave and no one will go in the grave with you.

“Because life is as dicey as it can get and people will always have something to say regardless.

“If you are being supportive, they will say you are ‘famzing’ or you are everywhere. If you do not show up, they will say you don’t want to see people grow.

“If you are invited to an event and you go, they will say you are too accessible, if you don’t, you are not a good person.”

“If you marry from a humble background they will say you are classless and married low, if you marry someone rich, you will be called a gold digger.

“If you marry someone you are older than they say you just want to be in control, if you marry someone older than you, they question if you truly love this person and come up with ridiculous scenarios.

“If you post what you have, they say you are showing off, if you don’t they call you poor.

“If you try to be real, they call you razz or local, if you act classy, they call you fake.

“If you are taking care of your skin, they say you are bleaching, if you don’t they call you dirty and start to compare you to another.

“If you say something on social media, they say you are talking to someone. If you don’t, they call you boring.

“At the end of the day, just choose yourself and do you. People will always talk. Learn to also let people be themselves.

“Stop the entitlement and stop reading meanings to everything. It’s really not that deep and we can always just let people be and breathe. Happy new year in advance.”

Some fans want to have sex with me for money -Peju Johnson

Actress, Peju Johnson has averred that some fans want to have sex with her for money.

Speaking in a chat with The Sun, she said: “My man must be loving; tall, dark, caring, romantic and respectful. Most importantly, he must be God fearing, because if a man fears God, the rest is simple. Nowadays, men don’t fear themselves not to talk of God. I can reject a serious suitor if he doesn’t have respect for me or for other people.

I don’t like men that are disrespectful. Some of my fans are asking for my price tag. They want me to have sex with them for money, while some are sending me their dick pictures. Obviously, they are not my fans. I always feel embarrassed seeing all those things in my inbox. I can’t deal with such kind of men.”

On if she is under pressure to get married, she said: “For 2022, I’m looking forward to a better life and future. I want to be able to achieve my dreams. Somebody’s son is finding me; I am going to settle down and have my own family. I really can’t wait to see that happening. I pray my wedding bells ring anytime soon, because I really want it.

However, I am not getting any pressure from home to get married. In fact, my mum is a very loving and understanding woman. She won’t force or rush me into taking a wrong decision, because she knows everything happens at the right time, and God’s time is the best. Although, she does ask once in a while, she never pressurizes me to bring a man home”.

  • Arteta salutes Arsenal fans as ‘feel-good’ factor returns

Arteta salutes Arsenal fans as ‘feel-good’ factor returns

The sound of Arsenal’s joyous fans chanting his name must have been music to the ears of Mikel Arteta on Sunday in London.

This was after his youthful side swept aside London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a 3-1 victory.

It came a few weeks after some fans were calling for the Spaniard to be shown the door following a calamitous start to the 2021/2022 English Premier League (EPL) season.

Arteta now appears to have turned things around.
Three consecutive defeats, in which they conceded nine goals without scoring, left the 13-times English champions bottom of the table in late August — their worst start in 67 years.

A couple of 1-0 wins over Norwich City and Burnley steadied the ship, but Sunday’s invigorating display had the fans in raptures as Arsenal climbed above Spurs in the table.

And while 10th place is nothing to get excited about, they appear to be heading in the right direction while Tottenham, whose season is a mirror image, are on the slide.

Arteta has spoken in depth about rebuilding a squad for the future and in exciting young talents such as Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Ben White and Kieran Tierney.

Now, Arsenal’s fans have genuine hope of brighter things to come.

Some of their football in a dynamic first half was sensational as goals by Smith Rowe, team captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Saka swept away a listless Tottenham side.

The fans responded to create a buoyant atmosphere not heard at The Emirates for a long time.

“This win is for the fans. They were there when we needed their support. We started really strongly and were determined. In the second half we had to do what we had to do,” Arteta said.

“It’s a special day. Today is one example of what we want to do. But we have to be consistent.

“We had great determination, great energy and great quality. I really enjoyed it. I see the belief the players have in what we do. They have the quality to put it into practice.”

The 21-year-old Smith Rowe typified the energy in the Arsenal ranks as he scored the first goal and then set up the second for Aubameyang, while Saka, 20, continues to look a gem.

“It’s probably the best day of my life. To have my family here as well, it’s a special feeling,” Smith Rowe said.

“I feel like we’ve worked so hard. We had a tough start to the season. I feel like it’s going really well at the moment, but we need to keep our heads on.”

Tacha berates fans for criticising BBNaija housemates

Former Big Brother Naija season four contestant, Natacha Akide, simply known as Tacha, has condemned fans of the show for criticizing the housemates of the ongoing season six edition.

The reality Tv star took to her Instagram story on Tuesday to blasts fans who condemn the Shine Ya Eye housemates by their actions in the house.

Tacha said, “Isn’t it funny how people who have never been in a situation have the most to say? How do you tell me how tight my shoe is when you’re not the one wearing it?

“I really think it‘s totally unfair on how harsh some people have been on these housemates. These guys are going through a lot for your entertainment. Mind you, some of you guys will not last in that house for two days. I give you my word.

“But then, you’re out here having the most to say about a house you haven’t been in. Having the most to say about people that don’t even know what they’re doing.

“They’re just in the house trying to be themselves; trying to find direction. They do not know what’s going on. They’re just being themselves.”

BBNaija Shine Ya Eye season which kicked off on July 25 is expected to end on October 3 where the winner will emerge to be given the grand prize worth N90 million.

  • If fans unhappy, I’ll step aside – Guardiola

If fans unhappy, I’ll step aside – Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he’s prepared to leave the club if the fans are unhappy with him.

On Thursday, a leading City supporters group labelled Guardiola’s comments about stay away fans after the RB Leipzig game “disappointing and uncalled for”.

“It’s not factual, our attendances are generally excellent,” said Kevin Parker, general secretary of City’s official supporters’ club.

“He [Guardiola] doesn’t understand the difficulties that some people might have getting to a game on a Wednesday evening at 8pm.”

However, Guardiola passionately argued that he would never criticise City fans for being unable to attend games.

“I am entirely grateful for the support that we had against Leipzig,” added the 50-year-old, who celebrated his 300th game in charge with a stylish 6-3 win over the Bundesliga side in their Champions League opener.

“I always say if guys want to come we will be incredibly grateful because I know how difficult the game will be and I know we need our people.

“I never sit here and ask why people don’t come. If you can’t come then don’t.

“If it’s a problem for fans, I will step aside. From day one, I do my best. I like to play at the Etihad with my fans… my intentions are to be part of something, to do it together.”
