What Koeman told Barca fans after board support

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has told fans he’s delighted to have been confirmed as manager for next season at Camp Nou.

With Koeman now confirmed as being in charge for the final year of his contract at least, Barcelona will move forward with the signing of Memphis Depay on a free transfer, with the former Manchester United winger having been an express request of the coach.

“I am relieved to say that my players and my staff can now fully focus on the new season, the last few weeks have been intense, but I’m glad the president has given me his support.” Koeman posted on Instagram.

“Calm has now been restored and everyone’s goal at the club remains the same, to build a winning Barcelona and to achieve success.”

Barca have already added Manchester City pair Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia, along with Real Betis fullback Emerson Royal, to Koeman’s squad.

  • I don’t live up to fans expectations-Erica Nlewedim

I don’t live up to fans expectations-Erica Nlewedim

Former BBNaija contestant, Erica Nlewedim who got disqualified during her stay in Big Brother’s House has stated that her time in the reality TV show was like being in the prison.

Nlewedim made this known as a guest on a podcast, ‘I Said What I Said’.

According to her: “It is not easy to be constantly conscious of cameras every time. Obviously, one knows that cameras are there but one can’t be acting or trying to be on one’s best behaviour all the time. It is very stressful. One can do it for the first two weeks but at some point, one would get tired of it. Some people changed but I was just the same. This is how I am. I show myself the way I am. Sometimes, I felt I shouldn’t have shown a particular person a particular side of me but I consoled myself with the thought that we would soon be out of there. I protect myself in the real world but in that world (BBN), it was more like a prison.”

Asked if she is under pressure to live up to her fans expectations, she answered: “A lot of people who are not fans make me feel like I owe my fans my whole life. But, I try not to think that way because that is not the truth. God is the one answering my prayers and He could have used any human being. If He wants to use one and one says no, He would use another person. Feeling the need to live up to expectations? I only live up to my own expectation. Everything I am doing is because I wanted to do it. Everything I do fits into my goals.”

  • Only results can convince Arsenal fans – Arteta

Only results can convince Arsenal fans – Arteta

Mikel Arteta knows he can only change the minds of Arsenal supporters with quality results on the pitch.

Many fans were calling for Arteta to be sacked after the Gunners failed to overcome Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final last week.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Chelsea, Arteta was asked to give his response to such criticism.

“They are entitled to their opinions,” the Spaniard said.

“The only way I can prove that is by having a team that performs on the pitch and makes them proud. That’s the only thing that I can do.

“The only thing I can be judged on is do I create the necessary environment for a top, elite team to compete at the higher level and get everybody in the condition to do their best? And after that, do I get the best out of the players that I have? The maximum, whatever the level is, do I get the best out of that? This is how I judge myself and at the end, in the outside world, how I am going to be judged is just with results, nothing else.

“What we’ve done good before, in the past, in the process… it’s irrelevant. It’s only what you get from that result when you are on that pitch.

  • This constant disrespect is unacceptable-Nengi slams fans

Rebecca Nengi Hampson has taken to social media to express her displeasure over how some of her fans “constantly disrespect” her brand, friends, and team.

In a Twitter post on Monday, the 2020 BBNaija reality TV star ranted about those she said are shooting down her brand. She also pointed out that she has been quiet about those spewing harsh words on her team and family.

Emphasizing on the importance of her personal brand, Nengi said the “constant disrespect” is unacceptable. She also asked fantasy-driven die-hard fans to “un-stan” her if her personal image isn’t enough for them.

“My brand is important to me and a good name is better than riches,” the reality star wrote.

“I have been quiet on a lot of things but this constant disrespect is unacceptable! Please, stop pulling down my friends, my brand, and my team. I understand it’s part of ‘what I signed up for’.

“However, it is mean to subject my family and friends to the same vitriol as they didn’t sign up for this. If you also love me because of your fantasies, unstan me. I am Nengi, I am a brand and I should be enough for you.”

Amazingly, Nengi did not shed much light on what informed her outburst.

However her tweet got some her fans talking on Twitter.

“Now I know this girl has sense, this is something that all of them should do, it’s very important to call your fans to order when they are overreaching. It is so important”, a fan wrote.

  • Joel Glazer writes to Man Utd fans

Joel Glazer writes to Man Utd fans

Manchester United owner Joel Glazer has penned an open letter to fans after the Super League fiasco.

United have been hammered for much of the day for their short note confirming their withdrawal from the breakaway on Tuesday night.

Now Glazer has penned an open letter, declaring his family will not be selling up:

    “To all Manchester United supporters,

“Over the past few days, we have all witnessed the great passion which football generates, and the deep loyalty our fans have for this great club.

“You made very clear your opposition to the European Super League, and we have listened. We got it wrong, and we want to show that we can put things right.

“Although the wounds are raw and I understand that it will take time for the scars to heal, I am personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans and learning from the message you delivered with such conviction.

“We continue to believe that European football needs to become more sustainable throughout the pyramid for the long-term. However, we fully accept that the Super League was not the right way to go about it.

“In seeking to create a more stable foundation for the game, we failed to show enough respect for its deep-rooted traditions –promotion, relegation, the pyramid – and for that we are sorry.

“This is the world’s greatest football club and we apologise unreservedly for the unrest caused during these past few days.

“It is important for us to put that right.

“Manchester United has a rich heritage and we recognise our responsibility to live up to its great traditions and values.

“The pandemic has thrown up so many unique challenges and we are proud of the way Manchester United and its fans from Manchester and around the world have reacted to the enormous pressures during this period.

“We also realise that we need to better communicate with you, our fans, because you will always be at the heart of the club.

“In the background, you can be sure that we will be taking the necessary steps to rebuild relationships with other stakeholders across the game, with a view to working together on solutions to the long-term challenges facing the football pyramid.

“Right now, our priority is to continue to support all of our teams as they push for the strongest possible finish to the season.

“In closing, I would like to recognise that it is your support which makes this club so great, and we thank you for that.

    “With best regards,

    “Joel Glazer”

Fans react to death of comedienne, Ada Jesus

Nigerians have continued to react to the death of comedienne, Mercy Cynthia Ginikachukwu, fondly referred to as Ada Jesus. The comedienne died a day after celebrating her birthday. TheNewsGuru recalls that the young entertainer had been battling kidney disease that left her debilitated before her demise.

After the news of her death was announced by one Harrison Gwamnishu, who had been taking care of the ailing comedienne, fans have been expressing shock at her passing.

@Doctoremto wrote on Twitter: Haaaa, how her family denied her proper medical attention and instead carried her from one place to another in search of miracles baffles me. Someone suffered from stroke and needed proper medical attention but they had to worsen it”.

@Bigjohnydatalk1: Either Ada Jesus died of a Spiritual attack or illness the question is what does it take to forgive people, what?! Odumeje & Rita Edochie and others who cannot forgive easily, how do you ask God for forgiveness? We’re our problem, & Desmond Elliot of course.

“I never met you but I’ve heard so much about you & the impact: the smiles, the laughters & happiness you brought into people’s lives. The comatose health system in Nigeria failed you. Ada Jesus, Rest In Peace, until we meet again. Adieu sister”, a certain user @firstladyship said on Twitter.

ESL: Arsenal apologise, promise to re-build trust with fans

Arsenal have acknowledged they will need to re-build trust with their supporters after announcing they would not partake in the European Super League.

The Gunners have been joined by their English rivals – Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham – in withdrawing from the competition on Tuesday.

In an open letter to fans posted on their website, the Arsenal board attempted to explain their position and promised to work hard to reconnect with their fans.

It read: “The last few days have shown us yet again the depth of feeling our supporters around the world have for this great club and the game we love.

“We needed no reminding of this but the response from supporters in recent days has given us time for further reflection and deep thought.

“It was never our intention to cause such distress, however when the invitation to join the Super League came, while knowing there were no guarantees, we did not want to be left behind to ensure we protected Arsenal and its future.

“As a result of listening to you and the wider football community over recent days we are withdrawing from the proposed Super League. We made a mistake, and we apologise for it.

“We know it will take time to restore your faith in what we are trying to achieve here at Arsenal but let us be clear that the decision to be part of the Super League was driven by our desire to protect Arsenal, the club you love, and to support the game you love through greater solidarity and financial stability.

“Stability is essential for the game to prosper and we will continue to strive to bring the security the game needs to move forward.

“The system needs to be fixed. We must work together to find solutions which protect the future of the game and harness the extraordinary power football has to get us on the edge of our seats.

Finally, we know this has been hugely unsettling at the end of what has been an incredibly difficult year for us all.

“Our aim is always to make the right decisions for this great football club, to protect it for the future and to take us forward. We didn’t make the right decision here, which we fully accept.

    “We have heard you.

    “The Arsenal Board.”

What fans tell me on the street about Mbappe – Madrid president

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists he’s not spoken to PSG star Kylian Mbappe “in years”.

With less than 18 months to run on his contract, Mbappe has been linked with a summer move to Real.

But Perez told El Chiringuito: “They tell me on the street, ‘Presi, sign Mbappé!’. I say ‘calm down’.

“Madrid need a change and I’m not talking about Mbappé. We have won many things, but we have to move and recover the illusion. It is not easy with the current situation, but I am in that job.

“I have not spoken with Mbappé, I do not know if he wants to renew. I don’t know, I haven’t talked to him for years, I don’t know more than what I read in the newspapers.

“I do everything possible so that Madrid does not lose its rightful place. But it is true that we entered 900 million and now we enter 600.”

“I won’t say I’ve grown bigger than Nollywood. My dreams have rather grown bigger than Nollywood. I’ve rejected movie roles and I still do. I’m one artist who didn’t like to be stereotyped.”
