DNA ‘WAHALA’: More fathers rush to check kids status after report

After the recent report that one in every four children fail DeoxyRibonucleic Acid, DNA, test, made headlines, discussions around what most people refer to as paternity scam has been raging across the country.

The argument is also about how unfaithful most women have become in marriage- a development believed in some quarters to be sending many men to their early graves.

DNA, responsible for one’s paternity, is a molecule that contains the genetic instructions for the development, functioning, growth and reproduction of all known organisms and many viruses. It’s essentially the master blueprint for life.

However, this test which is one of the breakthroughs in molecular biology has caused a lot of heartaches to many families. This is because when the result is contrary to what the man expects, it is not only the men that are left shattered, the children involved are equally disoriented, especially when they are already adults.

According to the latest study by Smart DNA Nigeria, covering data from July 2024 to June 2025, 25 percent of paternity tests returned negative, showing only a slight drop from the 27 percent in 2024.

What my dad told me about cigarette as a kid – Korede Bello

Popular Nigerian singer, Korede Bello has disclosed his conversation with his father at childhood whenever he sees him coughing.

In a recent interview on the “Say My Piece” podcast, hosted by actress Lolo, Bello spoke about witnessing his father’s unhealthy smoking habit, which left a lasting impression on him and inspired his commitment to wellness.

He emphasised the importance of a holistic approach to wellness, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional aspects.

“My dad used to smoke a lot of cigarettes and as a child, he used to send me to get him cigarettes. I noticed something then, he used to cough a lot so I’d ask him ‘Daddy why are you coughing?’ and he’d tell me ‘It’s because of the cigarette. So if you don’t wanna cough like me, don’t smoke.’ So very on he already planted something in my mind that this is something unhealthy and I don’t want to be the kind of person who does that so that was a good priming. Growing up I tried to be on the wellness spectrum, physical mental, and emotional,” he explained.

The singer also said: “I tried weed before but it’s not my thing. Very early on in my life, I mean not in my life like when I was a child, but it was just something that people did around me also and this is something about myself. I have a very addictive personality so whatever I find pleasurable it can turn into an addiction.”

He added: “You have to know yourself well. It’s very important because some people can indulge in some things and they’d get out of it and some people would take that something and they’re not there. You have to know yourself so you don’t follow everybody.”

  • My daughter didn’t die in hospital – Late Chrisland School student’s father testifies

My daughter didn’t die in hospital – Late Chrisland School student’s father testifies

Mr Michael  Adeniran, father of a late student of Chrisland Schools, Ikeja, on Monday told an Ikeja High Court that his daughter died in a stadium during the school’s inter-house sports.

Adeniran told the court that he was informed by the school’s nurse that his daughter, aged 12, was already dead in the stadium before she was taken to a hospital.

He said that the nurse told him that the daughter’s eyes were already dilated but she could not pronounce her dead because she was not a doctor.

Lagos State Government had on March 31, 2023, charged Chrisland School Ltd., Opebi, and its principal, vice principal, and two others for the death of Adeniran’s daughter.

The 12-year-old student was allegedly electrocuted on Feb. 9, 2023, during the school’s inter-house sports at the Agege Stadium, Lagos State.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Oyindamola Ogala.

Those charged alongside the school are Ademoye Adewale (a cotton candy vendor), Kuku Fatai, Belinda Amao (Principal), and Victoria Nwatu.

The defendants are standing trial for involuntary manslaughter and reckless and negligent acts.

While being cross-examined on Monday, Adeniran who is the first prosecution witness, said that he could not remember anybody informing him that oxygen was administered on his daughter at the hospital she was taken to.

He was led in evidence by counsel to Chrisland Schools, Mr Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN).

When asked if the student was absent from school on Feb. 2, 2023, due to illness, Adeniran replied, “She was absent from school, but she was not ill.”

The witness said that, on Jan. 20, 2023, the school called his wife (the deceased’s mother) and informed her that Whitney was ill.

He said that his daughter was then taken to Inland Specialist Hospital where a doctor prescribed drugs for her.

He testified that he got to know the name of the drugs from the doctor’s report obtained from the hospital and dated Feb. 16, 2023.

Adeniran listed the drugs as Nitrazepam and Amitriptyline.

When asked if he was informed by the Agege Central Hospital and Diagnostic Ltd. that his daughter died of cardiac arrest, the witness said that he was informed that she died of cardiac arrest.

The witness, however, told the court that he could not remember if the school’s nurse mentioned anything about administering oxygen or cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the deceased.

“The nurse said she tried all she could but my daughter  had already died before being taken out of the stadium.

“She said her eyes had already dilated, but  she could not pronounce her dead because she was not a doctor,” he said.

Adeniran had testified before the court on May 25, 2023.

Justice Oyindamola Ogala adjourned the case until Jan. 24 for a continuation of the cross-examination of Adeniran.

Cynthia Morgan reveals traumatic circumstances of her teenage years

Nigerian Singer Cynthia Morgan recently revealed the traumatic circumstances of her teenage years.

The artistrecounted a sequence of unpleasant incidents from her childhood, including a loss of innocence, family treachery, and a rocky relationship with her father.

Cynthia Morgan revealed that she lost her virginity at the age of 14 while still living at her father’s house. The reason behind this revelation is what makes it even more startling. She confessed that her half-sister and brother tricked her into participating in a months-long social experiment. This profoundly painful encounter left her emotionally traumatized and causing her to rethink her familial ties.

She didn’t stop there. After courageously confiding in her mother about the ordeal, Cynthia Morgan found herself targeted by her own siblings.

They subjected her to bullying in school, beseeching her friends not to befriend her and even instigating others to pick on her. It was a relentless campaign of abuse that the artist endured as a teenager.

But perhaps the most stunning part of her revelation is her demand for a DNA test to confirm her paternity. Cynthia Morgan’s father had reentered her life in 2016, offering hope that the pain of her past could finally be put behind her.

“I was barely 14 when I lost my virginity in my father’s house because my half sister and brother decided to be using me for sexual experiment… this shit went on for months till I was able to tell my mum it sure didn’t stop there because they hated me for telling my mum and went on to start bullying me in school and telling their friends to not befriend me and always pick on me so they can beat me. I went through all this as a teen.”

This shocking disclosure follows an earlier Instagram post in which Cynthia Morgan criticized her father, describing him as a fraudster who prioritizes materialistic pursuits and lacks empathy for her pain. She clarified that her father’s favorite catchphrase is her obligation to take care of him so that he can pray for her. In a heartfelt revelation, she expressed that she doesn’t owe him anything.
