Anambra Govt. rescues 12-year-old girl allegedly defiled by her father

The Anambra State Government said it rescued a 12-year-old girl, alongside her two younger siblings, from their father, Arinze Obiwenite, who allegedly defiles her.

Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, told newsmen on Saturday in Awka that the children were rescued on Monday, during a raid at Abacha town in Idemili North Local Government Area, following a tip-off.

Obinabo said she visited the Traditional Ruler of Abacha community, Igwe Nwabunwanne Odiegwu, to notify him of the raid before taking action.

She said that during the visit, Igwe Odiegwu revealed that the accused, Obiwenite, presented himself as a Christian who helped people solve their spiritual problems without knowing that he had other motives.

“The traditional ruler told us he knew about Obiwenite’s alleged escapees when he accused some young boys in the community of raping his daughter.

“He was summoned to the palace on several occasions to state his case, but failed to honour the royal invitation which made the youth of the community troop to his residence but were disappointed at what they saw.

“The youth discovered that he locked up his three children in a room, including the 12-year-old girl, whom he alleged that some young men of the community had raped.

“When questioned, the daughter revealed that her father had locked them up in the room for five years and that he always had carnal knowledge of her while he fingers her two younger siblings,” she said.

The Commissioner said they raided Obiwenite’s residence and rescued the 12-year-old girl and her two siblings, who had been taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment.

She assured that the children would get justice and a conducive environment for growth and proper care.

“When we raided the house, we also discovered that the accused uses diabolic means to run a ministry, known as ‘Holy Trinity Healing Ministry’, where people come to get solutions to their problems.

“When he was interrogated, he denied all the allegations but was quick to ask the traditional ruler to forgive him and help find a way of resolving the issue outside the court, which the Igwe blatantly refused.

“Some fetish items, hollow grave at his backyard, a paper with a long list of names of those he had killed and will kill, were discovered at his house and he was made to destroy them in the presence of the villagers.

“The accused also stated that he was married to 11 wives but does not live with any of them,” she said.

Obinabo said that Obiwenite had been arrested by the police and transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department in Awka.

She said that Obiwenite would be arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate’s Court.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: THE HEART OF YOUR FATHER

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: THE HEART OF YOUR FATHER

    By Oke Chinye

    Read: Luke 15:11-31

    Meditation verse:

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers”. (3 John 2).

God’s plan for you is that you prosper in every area of your life. He wants you to be in close relationship with Him. He desires that you live in good health, experience flourishing relationships with others, thrive financially, have a sound mind that is devoid of fear and accomplish your purpose on earth. His plans for your life are plans of good and not of evil.

Today’s reading which highlights the story of the prodigal son portrays the heart of God, our heavenly Father. The heart of our Father is full of love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, and grace. Psalm 103:11-14 says “For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust”.

You are loved, forgiven, pardoned, helped, strengthened, and graced by your heavenly Father to live an abundant and fruitful life. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). In Mathew 7:11, He says “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”. Isaiah 41:10 says “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand”. This is the heart of our Father.

Irrespective of where you are today or whatever the circumstances around you may be, do not faint or lose heart. Focus rather on the heart of your heavenly Father which is set to do you good always. The song writer says, “I have a Father who will never ever fail me, I have a Father who will never ever fail me, Jesus is my Father, He will never ever fail me, King of glory, never ever fail me”. What a blessed assurance!

UNBELIEVABLE! How father kidnapped his 8-year-old son, demand ransom from wife

In what many will consider unbelievable, an 8-year-old boy has been kidnapped by his own stepfather.

However, the boy, who was kidnapped by his stepfather has been rescued by detectives in Kenya and reunited with his distraught mother.

The suspect, Nemwel Ondari, kidnapped the boy on Saturday morning, November 12, after a domestic disagreement with his wife, Everline Nandera.

The suspect was arrested following a report filed at Embakasi police station at around 9:30am, by the boy’s worried mother.

According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations- DCI, the suspect demanded and threatened to kill the boy with a kitchen knife if the wife didn’t act fast.

“Nandera told detectives that she had left their home in Embakasi’s Tel Aviv area at the crack of dawn, headed for Muthurwa market,” the statement read.

But upon coming back at around 9:20am, she found her husband and son missing. A note had been left behind by the husband Nemwel Ondari, 32, demanding for a ransom of Sh50,000, for the release of the boy.

In the note, the man also warned his wife that he would kill the boy using a kitchen knife which he had carried, should she try any monkey business.

Immediately the woman filled her report at Embakasi police station, detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) based at DCI Nairobi area were assembled and a manhunt for the suspect was launched.

The detectives assisted by their Embakasi counterparts traced the suspect and arrested him at the NMS Green Park matatu terminus off Haile Sellasie avenue, a few hours later.

The detectives established that the couple had a heated argument last night and after Everline left early in the morning for Muthurwa to fend for her family, the man packed his clothes and a kitchen knife in two bags, before taking off with the boy.

The detectives pounced on the man at around 4pm, as he eagerly waited for the ransom to be deposited into his Mpesa account.

Mother and child were reunited and the man was escorted to Embakasi police station, where he is cooling his heels awaiting arraignment.

  • What my abductors almost used me for – Osun lawmaker’s father reveals

What my abductors almost used me for – Osun lawmaker’s father reveals

Pa Muftau Lawal, the father of Adewunmi Kofoworola Babajide, the lawmaker representing Ede North State Constituency in Osun State House of Assembly has narrated his experience in the hands of his kidnappers and how he was almost used for ritual.

In Auguts Pa Lawal was reportedly abducted at his residence in Ede.

Speaking in an interview, Lawal narrated how unknown individuals came to his house on motorcycles and threatened to kill him.

According to him, “I was in front of my house in the evening when I saw these people in their numbers. They alighted from motorcycles and some children who were playing beside where I sat, ran away. Some of them said they should burn me alive while some said they should gun me down and I was already scared when one of them said they should pour petrol on me and set me alight.

“Not long after they left, another set of people came and immediately they alighted from the motorcycle, ordered me to climb the motorcycle. I asked them where are you taking me to? One of them responded, ‘we are taking to you to meet your son, Akogun’. Because of my age, my sight is already blurry, I couldn’t see clearly as we were going. But after a while, I noticed we were on Ilesha route, because that’s my route when I was young.

“I asked again, where are you taking me to and the one behind me said ‘if you ask any question again, we will kill you here’. I stopped asking them questions. We were going on a high speed. Then, it was already dark, so I can’t see anything again.

“Later, we got to a place, there is a house there and I was asked to go inside. I met an old man with a boy, the man is a herbalist and he welcomed me. Those who carried me to the place left. I saw the herbalist as he consulted his oracle; after many incantations, the herbalist asked me if we have any deity in our family and I told him no, that we don’t have any deity but my wife family has one they do worship which is “Sango”– God of lightening. The herbalist now said, ‘I can see’ as he shook his head. Later, I noticed that he was calling those who brought me to him to come and carry me that I can’t be used.

“Those who brought me didn’t answer and I was there for weeks before they came back six days ago around 3am to carry me. As we were going in the middle of the night, I noticed that a car was coming behind us and not quite long, the motorcycle that they used to carry me stopped and I was asked to enter the car. It was the car that carried me to Lokoja in the morning.

“The car, which carried me, after getting to Lokoja, asked about any Police station to present myself to them and explain how I got there, which I did. It was there in the station they contacted some people in Osun to get my son’s phone number. They called him to inform him that I came to explain how I got to Lokoja. It was my son who arranged how I got back to Osun.”
