  • We have ‘facts’ to proof APC rigged Ekiti poll for Fayemi – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that it has ‘facts’ to proof that the governorship election held on Saturday, July 14 in Ekiti State was rigged in favour of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

It said members of its National Working Committee met in Abuja on Tuesday, where they received and reviewed “all facts relating to the July 14, 2018 Ekiti state governorship election.”

It added that after the NWC members reviewed what was brought before them, they came into a conclusion that the Independent National Electoral Commission allegedly rigged the election in favour of the rival All Progressives Congress.

It will be recalled that the commission on Sunday morning, declared the APC candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, as the winner of the election.

However, the candidate of the PDP, Prof Kolapo Olusola and the former ruling party insisted that the votes were doctored in favour of Fayemi.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, also accused the commission of pulling down the results of the election from its website.

He said, “After a thorough examination of all hard facts, the NWC reconfirms that the Independent National Electoral Commission doctored the result of the election to favour the APC.

The NWC notes that apart from the huge discrepancies between the actual votes cast at the polling centres and the results released by INEC, there is evidence that INEC pulled down the original result from its database to accommodate the alterations.

The NWC also has evidence indicating that the original result was in favour of the PDP candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola before the figures were altered.

The NWC, after very exhaustive examination of all facts, confirms the PDP candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, clearly won the July 14, 2018 governorship election.”

He called on INEC to correct what he called the error in the results it announced, warning that if this was not done, the defeated party and its candidate would seek redress at an election petition tribunal.

The NWC, therefore, calls on the leadership of INEC to immediately correct their results, apologise to the people of Ekiti State and be ready to admit their falsifications before the tribunal so as to return our mandate which was stolen at ‘gunpoint’ on July 14,” he added.

  • Trouble for Fayose as APC plots his removal

Trouble for Fayose as APC plots his removal

There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress is plotting how to impeach Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose before October 2018, which marks the expiration of his second term in office as governor.

Following the defeat of Fayose’s preferred candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, at the polls, those in the camp of ‘Oshoko’ as the governor is fondly called has continued to panic over reported threats by certain quarters in the APC to clamp down on their activities.

According to the information reaching TheNewsGuru.com, the ruling party, APC has concluded plans to use lawmakers in the state assembly and the Department of State Services (DSS) to frustrate Fayose out of government.

A source very close to Ekiti State Government who spoke to TheNewsGuru.com under condition of anonymity, said most of the top political office holders and aides working with Fayose have gone into hiding.

” The police, DSS as we heard are in search of Ekiti Speaker, who has gone into hiding. We were told their plan was to arrest him [Ekiti Speaker] and buy-over lawmakers as many as required to impeach the incumbent speaker and appoint a new one who will do the bidding of AC.

“The target is that they wanted to impeach Fayose so that they can arrest him early, they can’t stand Fayose being in office till December. I can reliably tell you that even Fayose’s media aide, Olalere Olayin among several leaders have gone underground.” Says our source.

Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Ekiti State governor, Mr. Idowu Adelusi in a phone conversation said he was unaware about the plot by the APC-led government to impeach his superior.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday said in a tweet that with Fayose’s tenure ending in less than three months coupled with the loss of his immunity, he should begin to prepare to visit the commission.

The commission hinted that investigation into Fayose’s alleged N1.3bn poultry project during his first term from 2003 to 2006, would be re-opened and the prosecution would be able to continue

The tweet read, “The parri (party) is over; the cloak of immunity torn apart and the staff broken.

“Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon.”

However, a large section of Nigerians on Twitter accused the EFCC of being unprofessional and fighting a one-sided anti-corruption war.

The anti-graft agency subsequently deleted the tweet.

Fayose has been having a running battle with the EFCC since 2007 but it intensified in 2016 after it was discovered that the governor, while running for office in 2014, allegedly received over N1.3bn from the then Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, who is now a member of the All Progressives Congress.

    … Congratulates Fayemi

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) said on Monday it would miss the invaluable contributions of the outgoing governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, at its meeting.

The Forum also congratulated the Ekiti governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi, for his victory at the poll.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Media at NGF, Abdulrazaque Barkindo, the Chairman of the Forum, Abdulaziz Yari, urged the incoming governor to join hands with the other governors in the country to strengthen the Forum and add value to their deliberations at their monthly meetings.

The statement reads: “the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, on behalf of the governors of the 36 states of the Federation congratulates Dr. John Kayode Fayemi on his resounding victory in last weekend’s election to become the governor of Ekiti State once again.

“Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar said elections are usually healthy contests that determine who keeps the mantle of leadership in the state for a certain period of time and not a victor and vanquished affair.

“Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar said all contestants regardless of their party manifestoes primarily are agents of governance that wish to move the welfare and wellbeing of their people to the next level.

“He added that since the people of Ekiti have spoken, the governor-elect, who once showed humility and courage and congratulated the outgoing governor four years ago should this time around also be magnanimous in victory by expressing his fervent desire to govern Ekiti for the benefit of all.

“The NGF Chairman, while wishing the outgoing governor of Ekiti State Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, luck in his new endeavour and stating that the NGF would miss his invaluable contributions at its meetings, also welcomes the incoming governor to the Forum where he is returning as a ranking and experienced member.

“Governor Yari Abubakar hopes that Fayemi will join hands with the other governors in the country to strengthen the NGF and add value to their deliberations at their monthly meetings.”

  • Ekiti poll: Fayose breaks silence, blasts Buhari for aiding Fayemi’s ‘Pyrrhic’ victory

…says ‘We will reclaim Eleka’s stolen mandate in court’

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has reacted for the first time since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Dr. Kayode Fayemi as the winner of the July 14 governorship election in the state.

Recall that Governor Fayose supported his Deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka in the election.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan and Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, said Fayemi had satisfied the requirement of the law by polling the highest lawful votes in the election.

Fayemi polled 197, 459 to Olusola who scored 178,121 votes.

Reacting to the election results, Fayose said the presidency not to rejoice yet, as he will have the last laugh.

Fayose asked Buhari to bury his head in shame for using the police, army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and INEC to snatch the mandate given to Olusola and deliver it to Fayemi “whom Ekiti people rejected.”

Fayose in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, said Buhari had demonstrated truly that he was not a democrat, but a dictator and fascist per excellence.

“I am Peter Ayodele Fayose, I hold with my head high. I can never be suppressed. I don’t lose battles and I will not lose this. I will laugh last.

“The President should note what the Bible says which applies to him. ‘ He that wears the armour should not boast as he that removes it. ’

“It is only Buhari that will pride himself with the security shooting sporadically at polling centres, scaring people to pave the way for the APC thugs to snatch ballot boxes .”

Fayose said what Buhari had won as referendum from Ekiti people, Nigerians, and international community “is shame.”

He added, “If APC has truly won, why is it that there is no jubilation in Ekiti?

The victory of Kayode Fayemi is pyrrhic. We will reclaim the stolen mandate in the court by the power of God. ”

  • Fayemi’s victory, a demonstration of Ekiti people’s faith in APC – Ajimobi

Fayemi’s victory, a demonstration of Ekiti people’s faith in APC – Ajimobi

Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has described the victory of Dr. Kayode Fayemi in the just-concluded gubernatorial election in Ekiti State as a demonstration of the people’s trust in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party that has the capacity to liberate the state from mis-governance and gross under-development.

The governor stated this in a congratulatory message issued by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Bolaji Tunji in Ibadan, on Sunday.

He said that the outcome of the election which he described as free, fair and credible, was a reflection of the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state and a further demonstration of their faith that Fayemi’s second coming as governor would bring the socio-economic development which the state had been yearning for.

While congratulating the governor-elect for engaging in intellectual and issue-based electioneering in all parts of the state, Ajimobi described his victory at the polls as well-deserved.

He said: “Please accept my hearty felicitations, my brother, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on your outstanding performance at the just-concluded gubernatorial election which you won fair and square.

“It was indeed a well-deserved victory and a reflection of the trust and confidence which the people of Ekiti State have in our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party which has the capacity to liberate the state from the shackles of mis-governance and gross under-development.

“I am equally happy that the issue-based electioneering which you took to all the nooks and crannies of Ekiti State, coupled with the active support of the party hierarchy at the national level and in all the APC-controlled states, eventually paid off with your victory at the polls.

“I have no doubt that with your intellectual disposition, sagacity in public administration and as a tested hand, you will use your wealth of experience to turn things around for Ekiti and take the state to greater heights.’’

The governor also congratulated the people of the state for making the right choice by voting Fayemi and APC, and, by extension, returning the state to the mainstream, assuring them that the governor-elect and the party would not disappoint them.

Governor Ajimobi equally commended the electoral umpire for conducting a free, fair and hitch- free election which has shown their level of preparedness and readiness for the governorship election and the 2019 elections.

  • Ekiti poll: Tinubu congratulates Fayemi, commends Fayose, Eleka

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, said the election of Kayode Fayemi in Saturday’s Ekiti gubernatorial poll was a victory for the people.

Tinubu made the declaration in a congratulatory message to Fayemi, the APC candidate in Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.

In a statement signed by his media officer, Tunde Rahman, entitled – “Ekiti Election: A Victory for the People”, Mr Tinubu urged Mr Fayemi to avoid recriminations and run an all-inclusive government.

Recall that Fayemi won the election after securing 197,459 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Kalapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 178, 121 votes on Saturday.

“Dr Fayemi must keep in remembrance that the people have placed their future in his safekeeping and he must justify their trust in him by doing all he can do to advance their welfare.

“I’m confident that Fayemi will keep faith with the programmes and policies of our party in order to improve the lives of the people of Ekiti.

“I know Fayemi will establish an all-inclusive government that involves all stakeholders in his administration and in the governance of the state, ” he said.

Tinubu said the people of the state had voted to take a path different from the one on which they had been.

“In Ekiti, a chapter has closed and a new one has begun. This was not done by contrivance or artifice, nor was it the product of intimidation or improper influence.

“This came about because it was the will of the people of Ekiti as expressed and manifested in the conduct of a free and fair election in that state. In voting, as they did, the people thus voted for themselves.

“Here, we must congratulate Dr Kayode Fayemi and our party, the APC, for the successful campaign that was run and for the confidence the people of Ekiti have shown in transferring the mandate to govern them into our hands,” he said.

Tinubu said there was much apprehension and concern leading to the election that the exercise would fall into disorder.

“In the end, the election took place as it should for democratic elections are- a peaceful contest of ideas and ideologies.

“In Ekiti, two clearly different perspectives of governance stood in contest for the people to decide and decide they did.

“I make no bones that I am glad that Dr Fayemi and the APC won this contest, ” he said.

Tinubu commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olusola Kolapo-Eleka, for not resorting to violence to get his way.

“However, I would be remiss if I did not say a good word about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Prof. Olusola Kolapo Eleka.

“He conducted a tough and energetic campaign. He wanted this seat but, in the end, he did not resort to violence to get his way.

“He allowed the people to make their own decision and for his adherence to this democratic principle, he should be recognised, ” he said.

Tinubu also commended Gov. Ayo Fayose for not crossing the line by trying to subvert the will of the people through violent means.

“The same must be said of Gov. Ayo Fayose. He tried his utmost to bring his candidate to victory but he did not cross the line by trying to subvert the will of the people through violent means.

“Dr Fayemi is a man of integrity and his government will not be one of recrimination. It is a government of the people and as such will focus its attention on helping the people, not suppressing yesterday’s political opponents.

“I urge Gov. Fayose and Prof. Kolapo Eleka, as prominent citizens and leaders of Ekiti, to move forward in that same spirit. Let there be an orderly transition from the outgoing to the incoming government.

“Last and most importantly, let us commend the people of Ekiti. Casting aside all the dire predictions, they conducted themselves with the patience, sobriety and collective wisdom befitting the moment.

“Instead of turning things upside down, they turned to peace and mutual respect for each other as well as respect for the democratic process.

“Above all else, the election was your election and yesterday was your day! With the choice that you have made, may tomorrow also be your best future, ” he said.
