Fayemi faults FG’s planned rehabilitation of Port Harcourt Refinery, says ‘Dangote’s own underway’

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has said that more information is needed to justify the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the Federal Executive Council had on March 17 approved $1.5 billion for the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery which is said to commence immediately.

Recall that Timpre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum had told journalists in Abuja that the first phase will be completed in 18 months which takes the refinery to a production of 90 per cent of its capacity, the second phase will be completed in 24months, while the final phase will be completed in 44months.

But Fayemi who spoke on Friday on a monitored Channels Television programme faulted the planned project, noting that a private refinery built by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote is underway.

“I wouldn’t have taken that decision given the fact that we know that a big refinery, private-sector driven is coming on stream but I don’t have the information that led to that decision at first,” he stated.

“When you are outside a decision-making frame, there is some information that may not be available to you if you look at it at the pure face value. It may not be justifiable but we don’t have all the information responsible for that decision.”

Ekiti APC warns indigenes, opposition parties against attacks on Fayemi’s government

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has advised indigenes and opposition parties in the state to shun the idea of perpetually whipping up negative narratives about the state, but rather to always celebrate the activities and achievements of the state government and people of the state that impact positively on the well being of the people.

In a statement signed and released on Sunday by Elder Sam Oluwalana, the Director of Media and Publicity for the party in the state, several activities that are worthy of mention and in the international space have happened or are in the offing in the state but are not considered mentioning by certain elements in the state for political reasons which does not bode well for the state.

“Some people would rather run the state government down rather than celebrate the good things they are doing, because of politics.

”Indigenes and residents should know that we are all in this together and that when you urinate in the Commonwealth well, it all affects all of us.

“Lets all of us have good thoughts and contribute goodwill for the benefit of the generality of the people, like the Bible said;” those who wish good tidings for our Jerusalem would prosper ,” Oluwalana said in the statement.

Highlighting some of the good moments of the state under Governor Kayode Fayemi, Oluwalana said: “In recent time, Ekiti state has been in the limelight for very good reasons and her name has continued to receive positive mention both nationally and internationally.

The state is living up to expectations as the “Land of Honour” as it quietly picks its race to the topmost in all aspects of human development indices.

Ekiti, under the leadership of Dr Kayode Fayemi, who is the fourth civilian governor to preside over the governance of the state, is presently recording many firsts in virtually all aspects of human endeavours.

Few days ago, Dr Fayemi held meetings with top security advisers to respond to the renewed threat to lives and property in the state as part of his proactive measures to ensure the state remains peaceful as always.

Similarly, as Chair of Governors Forum, he held a series of strategic meetings across the length and breadth of the country in an effort to find a united and organic solutions to the challenge of insecurity in the country generally. Even within the south west political zone, he has continued to profer creative and collaborative solutions on the best way to curtail the demons of kidnapping and rural insecurity.

The immediate result of these meetings can be seen in the mobilisation of national consensus around the understanding of the problem and the renewed concerted effort to combat it head long.

In another development, Nigeria’s quest to promote gas utilisation policy as as a substitute to fossile fuel under the National Gas Expansion Programme, received a boost with the launch of the project in Ekiti as the first state in the south west. The project is expected to employ nothing less than 5000 youths in gas related businesses. It will also drive down cost of energy and environmental sustainability

Within the same time, medical equipment worth N300m was commissioned in an effort to boost health delivery service in the state. The items of the equipment are to be distributed to government hospitals in the state.

The Ikun Diary Farm which was being managed by Promasidor received a further lift with the arrival of 250 of about 1000 Texas Steered Cows to boost operation of the industry and actualise its delivery of 10000 liters of fresh milk daily.

All these are aimed at making actualising the program of the APC to turn around the economic fortunes of Ekiti state.

Though the panel that is hearing grievances from those maltreated by the disbanded police Special Anti Robbery Squad is yet to conclude its sitting and submit its report, Governor Fayemi has approved the immediate release of the sum of N7.2 million as compensation to proven victims of police brutality.

This was announced by the state Attorney General and commissioner for Justice, Mr Olawale Fapohunda during one of the sittings of the panel.

It is high time members of the opposition opened their eyes and ears to see and hear these good tidings already delivered and those that are still in the pipeline,” he said.

Insecurity: Governors have no choice but to dialogue with bandits – Fayemi

Governors will fight insecurity with every fibre of their being, the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has said.

The Chairman of the Forum and Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, spoke on Tuesday in Minna when he led a delegation to Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello over the kidnappings in the state.

Fayemi said: “The agenda of these people is to destroy the Federal Republic of Nigeria. That is their ultimate agenda. It is either we succumb to it or we fight it. And I can assure you that we will fight it with every fibre of our being. We will fight it to save our people.”

He said as governors they owed the people the duty of securing their lives and properties.

Fayemi added: “Our first responsibility as Governors is the security and welfare of our people. We do not want to lament because our people expect us to fix these problems. Our people want us to find a permanent solution to this cycle of violence, banditry, insurgency and criminality bedevilling our country.

“All our people want is to be able to sleep in their houses with their eyes closed and that is the duty we owe them. What this means is that we need to come together as a country instead of engaging in blame games either as leaders or as citizens.

“We need to explore every avenue to address this menace, we need to explore other avenues side by side with whatever the security institutions are doing. If that means engaging in dialogue, we may not have a choice but to engage in the dialogue. Anything that will help us deal with this crisis.”

Fayemi continued: “Terrorism, be it kidnapping, banditry or whatever name you call it, these are the remnants of the actors of the north east that have found themselves in other parts of the country. It is the remnants of terrorism that we are still dealing with. That is why we must not treat the north east in isolation.”

Sani-Bello appreciated the Forum for identifying with the people of Niger State at this trying period.

According to him, the Federal Government should do more to find a final resolution to insecurity.

“The time had come for us to come together and impose on the federal government to do the needful. There is a need for the federal government to proffer adequate intelligence and find a final resolution to this menace happening in our states.

“Dialogue is great. We are working on securing the release of the students and staff of Kagara secondary school through dialogue. We will dialogue with the bandits because we have realised that they have different missions and reasons for doing what they are doing. We will dialogue to look at their causes in addressing them,” he said.

JUST IN: No eviction order to herdsmen in Ondo, other South West states – Governors Forum

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has said that there was no eviction order to herdsmen in Ondo State or any part of the South West region.

It said the speech of Ondo Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was misconstrued in the media and was only directed at government reserve including registration.

Chairman of NGF and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, spoke in Akure at a meeting with the national leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

Fayemi noted that the statement generated a lot of hoopla which led to what he described as unfortunate development in Oyo State.

He said Akeredolu didn’t talk about herdsmen vacating the state but about registration of herdsmen who want to operate within the reserves.

The Ekiti Governor said they are after criminals and not fulani herdsmen.

Killer COVID-19 vaccines claim: Yahaya Bello risking lives of Kogi residents – Fayemi

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Governor Kayode Fayemi, has urged the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello to tread with care, following his recent statement suggesting that the COVID-19 vaccines are being introduced to kill the masses.

Governor Bello had in a recent address said that the COVID-19 vaccines being produced in less than one year are used to introduce new diseases that will kill many.

Reacting to Bello’s claim, Governor Fayemi appealed to his Kogi counterpart, urging him not to risk the lives of the citizens.

The Ekiti State Governor who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday said while the Kogi State Governor has a right to his reservations, the most appropriate to respond to a matter of such import is not to be dismissive.

Fayemi said the preponderance at the level of the Nigerian Governors Forum believes that COVID-19 is real, adding that there is a need to respond to the challenges that have emanated from the pandemic.

The governor who says COVID-19 is not just a health issue said it behooves public office holders to work in concert with the Federal Government to get to the bottom of the problem which is not peculiar to Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the NGF had also Thursday distanced themselves from the Kogi Governor’s unscientific claims on both the virus and the vaccines.

2023 presidency: Afenifere reveals stand on Tinubu, Fayemi, Bakare’s ambition

The pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere on Wednesday bared its mind on the 2023 presidential ambition of the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Governor Kayode Fayemi and Pastor Tunde Bakare.

National Publicity Secretary, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, said the group was aware that Tinubu, Fayemi and Bakare were scheming to be president in 2023, but that none of them had received the endorsement of Afenifere yet.

Odumakin spoke at the Punch Online interview programme, ‘The Roundtable.’

He said there is no doubt that Tinubu is a leader in Yorubaland but that he is not the leader of the Yoruba people.

Odumakin said to say that Tinubu had done more for the Yoruba people is debatable, saying that no one would earn Afenifere’s support simply because he is a Yoruba man.

He said the group would examine what such people stood for before deciding its choice.

Right now, Odumakin said Afenifere was not supporting any one at the moment, but only watching those who were interested in the 2023 presidency, including Fayemi, Tinubu, and Bakare and other non-Yoruba people.

He stated that where each aspirant stood for on the issue of restructuring and federalism would determine who got its support, stressing that the group was not afraid to state its support for any candidate and any party.

  • We will force Fayemi into 2023 presidential race – Ekiti APC

We will force Fayemi into 2023 presidential race – Ekiti APC

The Ekiti state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) said Governor Kayode Fayemi would be forced to contest for presidency in 2023.

This comes days after supporters of Bola Tinubu, national leader of the APC, inaugurated “The South-West Agenda (SWAGA)” in readiness for the 2023 presidency.

However, Paul Omotoso, the state caretaker chairman, said the time has come for the president to come from Ekiti, adding that “it would no longer play second fiddle in the south-west’s politics”.

Omotoso, who was represented by Ade Ajayi, the state publicity secretary, said this during a programme organised by Olusegun Osinkolu, a chieftain of the APC, for 1,000 members of the party in Ekiti north senatorial district, on Saturday.

He said: “On the 2023 presidency, the time has come for president to come from Ekiti. That is why we are pleading with you to support governor Fayemi,” he said.

“Though governor Fayemi has never said he wanted to contest, we will force him to plunge into the race, because of his competence, dedication, and loyalty to APC.”

Omotoso also assured Osinkolu of the party’s support at the state, local government and ward levels.

He said Osinkolu would be rewarded for his contributions and loyalty despite all odds.

He said: “We are going to support him for the Senatorial race in 2023 because he has done well to boost the acceptability and popularity of our party in Ekiti despite that he was denied senatorial ticket twice. He has remained loyal, contented, and committed to APC.”

Responding, Osinkolu who was represented by Ayodeji Olorunfemi his personal assistant, said: “I will continue to be loyal to this party and give my best to uplift APC because the party is a party of the people.”

“But I beg the Caretaker committee to be fair to all members in the coming membership registration exercise. Nobody must be schemed out, it should be all-embracing and all-encompassing for the much-sought stability and peace to be achieved by Governor Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee.

“We must not be selfish in our bid to build a strong party. Those in privileged appointive and elective positions must help others. This is the best way we can maintain unity.”
