Nigeria must be saved from APC government’s recklessness ― Fayose
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has called on Nigerians, especially the youths to rise and save the country from the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of alleged recklessness.Governor Fayose said via a statement on Wednesday that “events in the last few weeks are pointers to the fact that for Nigeria to be rescued from this impending anarchy, the people must rise to ensure that their votes count and rule of law is sustained.”In the statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, the governor was said to have addressed “some stakeholders from Gbonyin and Ekiti East Local Governments on Wednesday.”He had “vowed to remain resolute in his defence of the common people of Nigeria against the tyranny of the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC federal government.”Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, quoted him as describing the arrest and detention of a journalist working with Premium Times, Samuel Ogundipe as a continuation of the government’s suppression of freedom of information and of the press.Governor Fayose said that all agencies of the federal government, especially the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and all security agencies had been turned to tools of the APC.He added that “Questions that must be agitating the minds of Nigerians are: How did we get to this here? How did Nigeria return to the era of arrest and detention without trial, brazing disobedient to court orders and most importantly; ballot stuffing and use of thugs to snatch ballot box?”The governor decried the turning of the APC’s obsession for the removal of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President to one of the party’s main national agenda, saying: “They are holding meetings upon meetings on Senator Saraki’s impeachment as if removing the Senate President will reduce the price of rice to N7, 000 per bag that it was in 2015.“It is appalling that after more than three years of blaming former President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP for their failure, they have now shifted their blame to Senator Saraki.“The party has also gained expertise in elections rigging through ballot snatching and brazing manipulation of results, thereby destroying the legacy of free, fair and credible elections bequeathed by the PDP government.“Nigerians must therefore rise and save the country from the government of a President who behaves like a saint while so must corruption and impunity are perpetrated under his watch.” -
Governorship poll: Ekiti people in pains since INEC declared Fayemi winner – Fayose
Governor Ayo Fayose has claimed that the people of Ekiti State are in pain over the victory achieved by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the July 14 governorship election.
Fayose alleged that the APC stole the mandate belonging to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) claiming that the opposition cannot celebrate the victory.
He assured that the Election Petition Tribunal will give the mandate to the PDP candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, urging party faithful to remain calm as it launches a legal battle to claim the governorship seat from the APC.
Recall that the APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was declared the governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Fayose who spoke on Sunday while hosting PDP aspirants for House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate at the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti urged party supporters to keep hope alive until the mandate is won in the court.
He also assured aspirants for state and federal legislative seats of level playing field ahead of primaries saying their destinies are tied to his own
Fayose said: “We will reclaim our mandate. Let me assure you that my destiny is tied to yours and I will continue to be committed to this cause until you retrieve you mandate.
“The journey of life is beyond today, we have seen today but no one has seen tomorrow. I believe God will return this mandate.
“I appreciate your courage. Life is full of challenges and gives opportunities. Certain things happen for you to know who your real friends are. It gives you the stamina to carry on also.
“Ekiti people and even your distractors will celebrate you. For me I have done in my best for the election, we won and I have no doubt that we will win the battle again.
“Keep hope alive for beyond you, Ekiti people out there are in pain. Go to town you will see that the people who stole the mandate cannot celebrate it as the common man there are more pained.
“Keep body soul and spirit alive because I am sure we will be victorious. It doesn’t matter how close anybody is with me, if he comes to tell you that Fayose has picked me, tell him that he is a fool. I expect everyone to sell himself to the people.
“They who had witnessed my second tenure in spite of all odds and doubts, will also live to witness Olusola’s return as governor of Ekiti. Contest this poll in your own honour. There is a level playing for everybody to contest. I assure you.

Ekiti Assembly denies impeachment move, passes vote of confidence on Fayose
Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have said they have confidence in the State governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The lawmakers also distanced themselves from the alleged plot to impeach the governor following the electoral victory of the All Progressives Congress candidate in the July 14 governorship election, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
The Speaker of the House, Kola Oluwawole, had on Thursday raised the alarm over an alleged invasion of the Assembly premises by riot policemen in order to pave the way for the three APC members of the House to reconvene a week after the members had gone on recess.
He accused the APC lawmakers of forging the signature of the clerk, Mr. Tola Esan, in a letter purportedly written to request police protection.
But speaking after paying a solidarity visit to the governor on Friday, the Spokesperson for the Assembly, Dr. Samuel Omotoso, on behalf of the 23 members said they remained loyal to Fayose.
The chairman, House Committee on Information, said the Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers were fully in support of the move by the party’s candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, to reclaim his mandate.
He said, “We are here on a solidarity visit to the Governor and to show our displeasure to the stealing of the mandate freely given to Prof Kolapo Olusola. We also want to use this medium to register our displeasure to the illegality being perpetrated by security agencies threatening to make the state ungovernable.
“As you can see, we are 23 members and 21 is present here. Mrs. Titi Owolabi is not here because she is bereaved, and one of us travelled overseas. We are 26 members; three are on the other side. We are united and irrevocably committed to the cause of Fayose.
“We are solidly behind him and our party the PDP. We support the decision of the party to go to court to retrieve the stolen mandate and also to tell the whole world that if 23 members are on the same page, we want to see how they want to use three members to perpetuate illegality in the state.

Ekiti poll: Hold Fayose, Makarfi for PDP’s defeat – Kashamu
Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District (PDP) on the floor of the Senate, Kashamu Buruji has heaped blames on Governor Ayodele Fayose and former chairman of the caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi for the loss of the party in the July 14 Ekiti governorship to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The senator at the weekend said outgoing Governor Ayodele Fayose’s arrogance led to PDP’s defeat.
He said: “How would the PDP have won when the former interim Caretaker Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, allowed Governor Fayose to drive away other stakeholders in the party in Ekiti State and in the South West? After driving away all the bigwigs and stakeholders in Ekiti State, they could not but work against the party.
“Makarfi and others encouraged him to perpetrate all manner of illegalities and the Prince Uche Secondus-led NWC inherited him and never really did anything to rein him in. They were sold the lies that he could do it all alone.”
According to the lawmaker, the election was a referendum on Fayose, not the PDP.
“The good people of Ekiti State wanted to do away with anything Fayose and that was what happened. That is why he lost even in his own local government. It is not that the people do not like PDP. They still like PDP but detest Fayose and his antics. He is cancerous to the PDP and since the leadership of the party could not deal with him, the good people of Ekiti State simply helped us to remove him.
“All the political tokenism of frying garri, jumping on okada and going to eat at bukas are not what would impact on the life of the average Ekiti man or woman. To what extent has he gone to make life better for the average Ekiti man or woman? Has he provided a conducive environment for them to realise their full potentials? The people saw through his deceit and rejected him,” Kashamu said.
Kashamu said the PDP must be repositioned and restructured to accommodate all well-meaning leaders and stakeholders.
“There is no notable leader of the party in the South West that Fayose has not insulted. Most of our leaders do not want to have anything to do with him. Should the party continue to rely on him, the PDP will continue to lose woefully.
“Unless and until the PDP starts to field contented Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in their businesses or careers, the government of the day will continue to beam their searchlight on the mediocre that enriched themselves through public office. Given his unimpeachable integrity as an individual, President Muhammadu Buhari would continue to ride high on the horse of morality and become more politically advantageous over them.”
The senator urged Ekiti State Governor-elect Kayode Fayemi to “restore the values of Ekiti State that have been bastardised by Fayose. The people have invested their trust in him and he should not let them down. Politics and governance should be about the people and not parties.”

October is too far, start probing me now, Fayose tells Fayemi
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State on Thursday challenged the governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to begin probe of his government now instead of waiting till October 16 that he will be sworn in.
The governor advised the governor-elect to seek legitimacy for his election first rather than embarking on a vendetta mission that would consume him.
Fayose through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said this in his reaction to Fayemi’s threat.
“It is obvious that he will be consumed in his vendetta mission and rather than grandstanding, Fayemi should first seek legitimacy for his stolen mandate,” he said.
“He (Fayemi) should stop living in the world where threat of probe scares people because we in the government of Fayose are not afraid of victimisation and vendetta that Fayemi is obviously coming with.”
Fayose described Fayemi as a beneficiary of a stolen mandate who is afraid to even come to the open to celebrate his false victory.
“Even yesterday (Wednesday) when he went to collect the certificate of the mandate that was snatched and handed to him by the powers that be in Abuja, he had to be protected by police helicopter and hundreds of armed policemen. One wonders how he is going to rule the people they forced him on.”
“If Fayemi is on vendetta mission, which is obvious that he is, he will first destroy himself because like Ekiti and its people survived him during his first tenure, the people will outlive him this time too.”
Recall that the governor elect had on Thursday during a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari hinted during his interview with state house correspondents that he will probe what transpired in the Fayose administration when he is sworn in as governor on October 16.

Why I’ll probe Fayose, Eleka’s administration – Fayemi
Ekiti State Governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi has declared that he will probe the administration of the outgoing Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Fielding questions from State House Correspondents after he was formally presented to President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, Fayemi who stated that there was need to remove this election from personalities, noted that the election that we fought on issues.
“ It will be irresponsible on my part to come here and say that we will not examine what transpired in the last four years, what was received in Ekiti State and the expenditures in that period”
He said his administration will want to know “ why we were we not able to pay salaries in the state, adding that “ these issues should be examined in the interest of good governance.
“It is not about probing Fayose, probing Eleka etc, it is about not repeating the mistakes of the past and giving our people good government and how to do so will also involve looking at what transpired in the last four years.” he said
Fayemi who disclosed that he has started the process of putting the government together, said transition committee has already began “to look into the record of the state, its assets and liabilities adding that he expect the outgoing government to extend its hands of cooperation to the committee
“ We will engage also all of our professionals to ensure that we deliver good governance to Ekiti people. That is what they voted for and that is what we intend to give. So, basically, this three months will be used for this purpose”
“What sold us to the people is really the track records of our commitments to social investment, good government, transparency in government, extensive infrastructure and community involvement. These were the things.
“Everywhere we went during the campaign, we were able to show what we did for each community. All of our 132 communities were are projecting all of them and they knew that our government was regular in payment of salaries, support to a range of the weak and vulnerable in the society and that was really what sold us.
Fayemi denied allegations of voted buying, challenging anyone with evidence to make such evidence public.
“I haven’t any substantive evidence of allegations of vote buying and intimidation. In the place where l voted there was no vote buying anywhere.
“As far as our party is concerned, we did not engage in that, it is not our style.
He disclosed that his party the All Progressive Congress ( APC) won the election fair and square” adding that “it was an election that we fought on issues and not on the basis of any vote buying. So, whoever has any evidence of that should present it to an independently verifiable audience”
Speaking on his program for the state, Fayemi declared that “ We always been interested that out people lived a decent life, a life without hunger, with social support and that is why we were paying social security benefits to the elderly, we provided the youth graduate scheme fir the recent graduates, provided support for the communities”
“For us, we never saw stomach infrastructure from any pedestrian manner that the current administration has lived it up to. For us, it is about total development of our people, human capital development in education, health care, in social services and infrastructure development. It is the services we focused in.
“We increased salaries three times so that people could put food on their table in four years. That was why we provided range of allowances fo4 the workers . There was a huge difference between what we did and the present administration with lack of salaries , heartless , despair and despondency. We are restoring the values and reclaiming our mandate.
The chairman of the APC Ekiti election committee Governor Atiku Bagudu commended the party leaders, including President Muhamamdu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo , the National leaders, stakeholders and Ekiti people for the success of the eclectic not
“We had a vey successful election, it was quite peaceful and Ekiti on the day the election results were declared, there was jubilation and we congratulate them. We thank INEC and the security despite the misconstrued reports, provided their best. I have seen many who said this is the most peaceful election we have had.”
“Let people campaign on issues and here we have a candidate who was humble and despite what happened before, he was humble to say in 2014 that if that was the wishes of Ekiti people, I will not go to court. Ekiti people have once again delivered their wishes and anyone who loves Ekiti should respect their wishes “ he said

Fayose versus Police: Nigerians’ rush to judgment, By Ehichioya Ezomon
By Ehichioya Ezomon
The hotly contested Ekiti governorship election has been won and lost. But while its closing campaigns narrowly escaped a bloodbath, three groups of Nigerians reacted to Wednesday, July 11 highly publicised alleged police attack on Governor Ayodele Fayose at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti. They are those quick to criticise without getting details of an event; those who exercise caution and call for restraint; and others who hold contrary views about the happening.
In the midst of a fouled political environment, aided by access to the social media, most Nigerians no longer wait to get the true picture of occurrences before reacting. They simply swallow “hook, line and sinker” what’s posted, and respond accordingly.
More worrisome, though, are politicians jumping into the fray, to earn some political points. Yet, these are the society’s leaders, who should guard their utterances, to avoid exacerbating a bad situation.
Last Wednesday, there were such instantaneous reactions, condemning the police attack as allegedly directed by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, in attempts to rig Saturday’s poll in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, former Governor Kayode Fayemi.
For instance, before the rapid-response opposition PDP got its act together, former Vice President and presidential aspirant in the 2019 elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, rolled out a statement, adjudging the police action as the handiwork of the Buhari administration.
His words: “The immunity that a president enjoys under the constitution is the same immunity being enjoyed by a state governor. Thus, it is an aberration to democratic norms and practices in a federal system of government that one layer of government should muscle out another government on account of political differences.”
The national executive of the PDP, led by its chairman, Uche Secondus, upped the ante with a march to the National Assembly, and the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the said bust-up as a “coup against (Nigeria’s) democracy.” Similar protests were staged across the country.
Fortunately, some Nigerians and institutions were measured in their rejoinders to the Ekiti saga, such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, who, sounding conciliatory, appealed to the security agencies deployed to Ekiti for the election to “carry out their duties according to the laws of the land by securing the state in a manner that will enable a peaceful electoral process.”
“If it is true that the State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, was assaulted as reported in the media, my appeal is that such should not be allowed to happen again, since the governor’s constitutional immunity guarantees that he should be given official protection to freely conduct the business of governing the state,” Jonathan said.
As Governor Fayose had reportedly apologised, through his aides, to the Police authorities, that their officers did not manhandle him, as he previously claimed, how would Dr. Jonathan have felt had he gone overboard, as others did, in reacting conclusively to the purported brutalisation of the governor?
In the interim, many Nigerians, believing that Fayose had overplayed his hand, were unmoved by the Ekiti saga. Rather, they dug into their reservoir of wise sayings, to properly situate the happenings with those of 2014 in the state.
They turned out such idioms as, “What goes around comes around.” “What you sow is what you reap.” “Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.” “Those who are too clever sometimes overreach themselves.” “One good turn deserves another.”
Besides, they labeled Fayose’s displays as a political stunt, questioning why would the police teargas affect only the governor, and his security details watched while a police officer “slapped” him; and how he came about an arm sling “tied” to a neck collar meant to brace his “broken neck.”
Which makes one Dr. Etin-osa Imagbenikaro (@etinmagbe) to tweet thus: “I actually did not understand this contraption (sling and neck collar). I’ve tried to hold it (laughter) in. But I’ve been laughing hard. If anyone tells me they fixed this for him in a hospital, I’d be shocked beyond belief. How do you connect an arm sling to a neck collar that’s bracing (holding in place) a ‘broken neck’?”
But what were the “cynics” driving at, when Fayose, with all paraphernalia of his office, including immunity, was “teargassed” by the police, who were supposed to protect him and members of his political party? It’s simply to nudge Nigerians’ memory to the un-savouring events in the 2014 election in Ekiti, and remind them that the latest occurrences were less in proportion to what took place four years ago.
As candidate of the PDP, which controlled the Federal Government, Fayose was enabled, through the security agencies, to ride roughshod over sitting Governor Fayemi, candidate of the opposition APC. And taking full advantage of the “powers” the government conferred on him, he “deployed” the Military to prevent opposition governors from entering Ekiti to campaign for Fayemi.
Fayose, in cahoots with the Defence Minister of State, Musiliu Obanikoro and the Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, locked down the state, hounded and arrested prominent APC members that could have mobilised supporters to swell Fayemi’s votes at the poll.
Hence, in the instant case, instead of sympathising with Fayose and Ekiti PDP members, many Nigerians were incensed by the attitude of the elite, who presented the debacle as new in the polity, where politicians engage in a do-or-die enterprise to get themselves or their cronies into power, as was played out in Ekiti last week.

Ekiti election: ‘1,000 security men holding Fayose hostage, mobile lines blocked’ Says brother
Isaac Fayose, brother to the outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has urged people of the state not watch and allow the governor to die.
He made the appeal while alleging that over 1,000 security operatives have blocked the state’s Government House while holding Fayose hostage.
He also alleged that all mobile lines of the governor have been blocked by the Federal Government.
Recall that TheNewsGuru.com had earlier published a report on the alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress, APC to remove Fayose from office before is exit in October.
In a Facebook post, Isaac claimed that the security operatives were out to kill Fayose.
He wrote: “As we speak, all the mobile lines of His Excellency, Ayodele Peter Fayose have been blocked, and 1,000 security officials blocking the Government House in Ekiti State.
“Nobody can leave the Government house as we speak! We are all being held hostages in the Government House. We fear our lives, and the life of the Governor because they want to kill him!
“All the Television Stations and Radio Stations in Ekiti State have been shut down!
“Please help us to share this message to people that can help us. We are all in danger! Please don’t let Gov. Fayose die.”

Trouble for Fayose as APC plots his removal
There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress is plotting how to impeach Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose before October 2018, which marks the expiration of his second term in office as governor.
Following the defeat of Fayose’s preferred candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, at the polls, those in the camp of ‘Oshoko’ as the governor is fondly called has continued to panic over reported threats by certain quarters in the APC to clamp down on their activities.
According to the information reaching TheNewsGuru.com, the ruling party, APC has concluded plans to use lawmakers in the state assembly and the Department of State Services (DSS) to frustrate Fayose out of government.
A source very close to Ekiti State Government who spoke to TheNewsGuru.com under condition of anonymity, said most of the top political office holders and aides working with Fayose have gone into hiding.
” The police, DSS as we heard are in search of Ekiti Speaker, who has gone into hiding. We were told their plan was to arrest him [Ekiti Speaker] and buy-over lawmakers as many as required to impeach the incumbent speaker and appoint a new one who will do the bidding of AC.
“The target is that they wanted to impeach Fayose so that they can arrest him early, they can’t stand Fayose being in office till December. I can reliably tell you that even Fayose’s media aide, Olalere Olayin among several leaders have gone underground.” Says our source.
Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Ekiti State governor, Mr. Idowu Adelusi in a phone conversation said he was unaware about the plot by the APC-led government to impeach his superior.
Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday said in a tweet that with Fayose’s tenure ending in less than three months coupled with the loss of his immunity, he should begin to prepare to visit the commission.
The commission hinted that investigation into Fayose’s alleged N1.3bn poultry project during his first term from 2003 to 2006, would be re-opened and the prosecution would be able to continue
The tweet read, “The parri (party) is over; the cloak of immunity torn apart and the staff broken.
“Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon.”
However, a large section of Nigerians on Twitter accused the EFCC of being unprofessional and fighting a one-sided anti-corruption war.
The anti-graft agency subsequently deleted the tweet.
Fayose has been having a running battle with the EFCC since 2007 but it intensified in 2016 after it was discovered that the governor, while running for office in 2014, allegedly received over N1.3bn from the then Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, who is now a member of the All Progressives Congress.
