  • Your claim of exiting recession meaningless, Nigerians still can’t afford 3 square meals – Fayose blasts Buhari

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said President Muhammadu Buhari does not deserve accolades for the nation’s recent exit from the economic recession because Nigerians in their large numbers are still hungry and sick with no food nor drugs in sight.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday confirmed that Nigeria had finally exited recession.

However, Fayose in a reaction through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka: “Claiming that Nigeria is out of economic recession without any corresponding effect on the living condition of the people is just like they said Boko Haram had been defeated and over 400 people were killed by the insurgents in the last five months.”

The governor, who also described the reason given for the cancellation of Federal Executive Council meeting slated for today as funny, said; “Is it not funny that the same federal government that declared public holiday forgot that there would be a Tuesday after the public holiday and FEC meeting will be held on Wednesday?

“I think they should look for another lie next week because the reality is that President Muhammadu Buhari does not have the required mental capacity and strength to rule Nigeria and I maintain that he should consider his health as well as the overall interests of Nigeria and resign.”

On the news of Nigeria exiting recession being promoted by the federal government, Governor Fayose asked; “If Nigeria is indeed out of economic recession, has price of foodstuffs like rice reduced to N7, 000 per bag that it was when Buhari took over power? Is dollar now N197 to $1? Is petrol now back to N87 per litre that Buhari met it in May 2015? Are Nigerians now feeding comfortably, even if it is once in a day?

“Most importantly, are States now getting enough allocation from the federation account to be able to meet their obligations, especially payment of salary?”

He said the claim was nothing but another attempt by the President Buhari-led APC to deceive Nigerians ahead of the 2019 elections.

“It must be stated that Nigeria’s foreign reserves, which stood at $28.6 billion by May 2015 that President Buhari took over power declined steadily to $23.89 billion by the last quarter of 2016. It was in 2016 that Nigeria slipped into recession, owing to the bad economic policies and repressive actions of President Buhari

“It is sad that the APC government has remained on the path of lies and propaganda and I wonder why the government can’t be truthful for once.

“However, if this latest lie is about 2019 general elections, they have missed it because Nigerians can no longer be received by the APC lying government.

“Nigerians should, therefore, disregard their lies and keep praying for God intervention in the affairs of the country,” the governor concluded.

  • Ekiti 2018: Fayose’s deputy, Olusola Eleka emerges PDP consensus governorship candidate

Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Olusola Eleka on Wednesday emerged the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming coming gubernatorial election scheduled to hold in 2018.

Olusola emerged from the list of strong contenders for the governorship ticket as the “most preferred candidate” at a meeting held by party faithfuls in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.

This was revealed in communique issued at the end of the meeting read, “After due consultation, without prejudice to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), we formally endorse His Excellency, Prof. Kolapo Olusola (the current deputy governor), from Ekiti South Senatorial District, as our preferred aspirant/candidate.”

Olusola, an indigene of Ikere Ekiti, which is the second largest town in Ekiti, was adopted before the commencement of a retreat organised for members to sensitise them ahead of the 2018 election.

Those who signed the communique are Anifowose Mustapha for councillors; Alhaji Amuda Sunmonu for Ward chairmen; Mr. Femi Bamisile for Local Government Party Chairmen; Dapo Olagunju for Association of Local Government Chairmen; Senator Bode Ola for Chairmen of Boards and Parastatals; Dr. Modupe Alade (Secretary to the State Government) for State Executive Council; Speaker Kolawole Oluwawole for EKHA and the State Chairman of the party, Chief Gboyega Oguntuase.

Speaking with journalists after the adoption, Oguntuase said the party organs would abide by the decision taken by the stakeholders in the overall interest of the party and the entire people of Ekiti State.

He, however, said the adoption would not preclude any member of the party who is interested in the governorship ticket from contesting.

He added that open and transparent primary election would be held in accordance with the rules of the party.

“The names are contained in the list of high-profile cases involving over 100 politically-exposed persons and top-ranking public officers still being investigated by the EFCC as of August 2017″ The PUNCH said it reliably learnt on Monday.”

The list was recently sent by the anti-graft agency to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), based on request.

“The list was actually sent in August to the then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and copied the AGF,” another EFCC source said on Tuesday.

The list, sighted earlier on Monday, listed 106 cases under investigation and several others pending in court but either stalled or moving slowly.

It did not disclose the details of the cases under investigation.

It however stated the date each of the over 100 cases was “referred”, the challenges being encountered in the investigation and the source of information leading to the commencement of the probe.

Sources of such information for the cases were listed against each of the cases.

They include intelligence, whistle-blowers and petitions from government agencies and private citizens.

Among other notable names on the list are the incumbent Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and his predecessor, Captain Idris Wada.

Fayose sacks aide over Eid el-kabir prayers

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has sacked his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi.

A statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said Adelusi was relieved of his duty over “dereliction of duty.”

The statement, which was announced on the state-owned radio station, did not explain the specific offence committed by Adelusi.

But a source in the Governor’s Office said Adelusi was sacked because he failed to organise adequate media coverage for the Eid prayer in Ado Ekiti, which the governor attended on Friday.

Olayinka said, “The governor was livid that there were no journalists in his entourage and that they were not on the ground to cover his entry into the prayer ground.

“The governor felt he had taken more than enough from the gentleman and ordered his sacking.

“The CPS, however, said he was not aware of the event because it was not officially communicated to him.

“He said there was no way he could have arranged for a media coverage for an event he was not aware of. But we hope the matter can be resolved because the governor has a large heart.”

When contacted by our correspondent, Olayinka confirmed the development. He explained that he issued the statement based on the directive of the governor.

He, however, failed to provide further details on the incident.

Attempts by our correspondent to speak with Adelusi on the issue was unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls made to his mobile phone and also to the text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.

  • Fayose bought N55m Range Rover, power bikes on credit – Witness tells court

Fayose bought N55m Range Rover, power bikes on credit – Witness tells court

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State got a Range Rover Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) valued at N41.4 million and two power bikes valued at N13.8 million on credit, a witness told the Judicial Commission of Enquiry investigating state finances between 2010 and 2014.

A Brand Manager at Coscharis Motors Limited, Mr. Justin Ngele, who testified before the panel at Thursday’s sitting, said Fayose got the Autobiography model of the Range Rover on September 9, 2015.

Ngele recalled that while the governor paid for the Range Rover, he was yet to pay for the two power bikes, which he said were delivered on July 13, 2015.

The brand manager, who was led in evidence by lawyer to Coscharis, Mr. Peter Jiya, said the two power bikes, which were used by the governor’s outriders, were supplied at N6.8 million each.

The witness said his firm supplied 156 units of various brands of Coscharis vehicles valued at N1,284,159,000, based on an oral agreement with the Kayode Fayemi administration.

Ngele, who was led in evidence by lawyer to Coscharis Motor, Peter Jiya, said the company sealed the deal based on the trust it had for the state government.

The brand manager said there was a letter of award by the state government on the purchase of additional 59 units of vehicles, which the company later supplied.

He added that of the 235 vehicles supplied between 2013 to 2014, N1.449 billion had been paid, leaving a balance of N459 million being owed the company.

But in his statement on oath, a witness from the Ministry of Local Government, Mr Samuel Akinjide, said the ministry received an invoice of N1,284,159,000 from the state government for 156 Ford Range of vehicles.

Akinjide said the ministry was mandated to finance the purchase of the 154 Ford Range vehicles, which were for traditional rulers.

The witness said even before the state government gave the directive, the then Commissioner for Finance, Mr Vincent Kolawole, had received the 156 vehicles.

He added: “Coscharis Motors, on May 2, 2014, requested for payment in respect of 235 vehicles, instead of the 156 units the ministry was directed to purchase.”

Akinjide said the local governments were to settle the debt on equal basis even though they did not solicit for it.

He said: “The General Administration Department (GAD) and the Ministry of Finance have been contacted but they all claimed ignorance of the purchase.”

The panel adjourned sitting till September 8 to enable Coscharis Motors present the original documents as evidence to be tendered because it rejected the photocopies supplied by the company’s lawyer.

  • It is too late for Nigeria to disintegrate – Fayose

The Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose, yesterday, said it is too late for Nigeria to break up.

Fayose said this while reacting to the meeting of Governors of the South-East states with leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Punch reports.

He said the meeting had provided a veritable platform, which all Igbos must key into otherwise they would remain guinea pig in Nigeria.

The governor, who appealed to the Federal Government to allow political solutions to agitations by Nigerians as against the use of brute force, said he remained “committed to the call for full and total restructuring of Nigeria through dialogue and negotiation because it is too late for Nigeria to disintegrate.”

According to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said he was “particularly glad that Southeast governors have come to the realisation that they cannot ignore their own in times like these as agitation is normal and must not be ignored, although the approach should be handled with caution.”

He continued, “The father figure of this country is President Buhari and if his language does not represent unity, there will be agitations like we are witnessing now.

“A father figure rallies even the bad boys in his house. His utterances and actions when he became President were against the unity of this country.

“How can a president say that he will only attend to the needs of those who gave him 97 per cent vote and neglect others who didn’t vote for him?

“For Nigeria to move forward and in unity; there must be no sectionalism, there must be no oppression and there must be justice and equity.”

  • ‘I can’t abandon my people in Ekiti for impromptu meeting with Buhari’ – Fayose blasts critics

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said there was no way he could have abandoned activities that had been lined up for him in the state to attend an ‘improptu meeting’ convened by President Buhari on Friday.

The governor cleared the air on Friday when he was attacked of deliberately missing out on the meeting called by the president.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that due to Fayose’s constant criticisms of Buhari’s policies especially while he (Buhari) was receiving treatments in London, he (Fayose) was rumoured to have intentionally avoid meeting with the president.

However, Fayose replied his critics saying he was unable to attend the meeting because it clashed with his chieftaincy installation and other activities in the interest of the state.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Governor Fayose along with his Gombe counterpart, Ibrahim Dankwambo were honoured with the chieftaincy titles of Apesin Apogun Pote and Akinmuagun respectively by Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe on Friday while other governors were meeting with President Buhari at the Aso Villa

For those insinuating that I shunned the President’s meeting with governors, I didn’t. I had my installation as Apesin of Ado Ekiti slated for today,” the Governor wrote on Twitter on Friday.

He added that “guests were already in Ekiti since yesterday for the chieftaincy title installation before I received notice of the meeting with the President.”

Buhari at the meeting said the governors have been “doing their best”.

The President, who had earlier met with leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, said, “I have just addressed members of APC and PDP senior officials that came to welcome me back.

I thank you very much for the national approach in your leadership, those who are leaders at political level and those who are chief executives in their respective states”.

  • Photos: Fayose, Dankwambo, others get chieftaincy titles in Ekiti

The Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, on Friday, conferred a chieftaincy title, Apesin Apogun Pote, on Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.

The monarch also honoured Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State, his wife, Hajia Ummi Adama and a member representing Remo Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Ladipo Adebutu.

Dankwambo was bestowed with the title, Akinmuagun, his wife, Yeye Akinmuagun while Adebutu became Ajirosola.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Fayose and Dankwambo had on Thursday commissioned the new hall built within the Ewi’s palace by the State Government to honour Oba Adejugbe and Ado Ekiti people.

The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers from both Ekiti and Gombe States and important dignitaries, including former Benue State Governor, Mr Gabriel Suswam, a PDP chieftain, Chief Bode George, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Wole Olanipekun, and a former Minister of Health, Mr Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, among others.

The governor at the event boasted that his successor will trounce the All Progressives Congress in the 2018 governorship poll because he is a grassroots politician, who commanded enormous goodwill among the populace in the state.

He assured the royal fathers that he won’t give Ekiti a governor that would disrespect them or treat them scornfully.

According to him, the royal fathers occupy sacred positions that must be honoured and respected at all times.

“The governor that will come here to perform and respect all the monarchs in Ekiti will be presented by the PDP for 2018 poll. We know what you stand for and what you represent. You are so important to us and we will treat you with respect.

“We won’t give you a governor that will disrespect you or that won’t be able to perform or that will reverse all we have done for you. Ado Ekiti deserves respect and the governor that will come after me will surely appreciate this and do what is expected for this town,” Fayose said.
