Ekiti 2022: Fayose unveils preferred gov candidate in PDP

A former Governor of Ekiti, Mr Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday, unveiled the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr Bisi Kolawole, as his preferred choice for the 2022 governorship election in the state.

Kolawole, a former House of Assembly member, representing Efon constituency, was formally presented by Fayose to his supporters in all the 177 wards in the state.

According to NAN, the unveiling of the aspirant was aimed at preparing ground for his emergence as candidate in the governorship primary of the party.

The occasion was attended by some party chieftains, including a former member of House of Representatives from Ogun, Mr Ladi Adebutu, a former PDP South-West Zonal Chairman, Dr Eddy Olafeso, PDP Chairman in Ogun, Alhaji Sikirukahi Ogundele and Mr Kayode Alufa, among others.

Speaking at the occasion, Fayose described Kolawole as a bridge builder, who would usher in a better future for Ekiti and the party.

He commended two former House of Representatives members, Messrs Ayodeji Oladimeji and Segun Adekola for stepping down for Kolawole to allow peace to reign, saying “this is a mark of respect for my leadership.

“The man you have come to honour, Bisi Kolawole, is our collective project. I made him my preferred candidate in the overall interest of our party, but this does not foreclose due process of nomination in PDP.

“We are not going to attack anybody on social media. We are not going to do that, and even if you are doing that without your voter cards, you are just wasting your time; just go and get your voter cards,” he said.

Fayose, however, said that whoever won the primary among the aspirants would have his support.

“PDP is what we are supporting; it is what we are marketing; and all we want is a winner; we have started consultations and I know that victory is sure for us,” he said.

In his address, Adebutu appealed to Fayose to mend fences with his aggrieved supporters in order to keep and strengthen his political base.

“It is sad that some people, who used to be with Fayose, had abandoned him barely three years he left office.

“Why should this be? When and what actually caused the enmity? I am particularly worried.

“We have to beg them. We must appeal to them; they have dined and wined with the Fayose political family; they have benefited from you; we won’t allow anyone to ruin PDP. So Fayose must bring them back,” Adebutu said.

Kolawole, in his remarks, promised that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him.

“I never wanted to be a governorship aspirant. All I wanted was to remain as PDP chairman, but when the leadership beckoned, I have to agree.

“This endorsement does not mean an imposition; that Fayose is endorsing me only shows that I have been adopted by his supporters and admirers.

“I am going to make sure we have free and fair primary. I won’t take advantage of my position. I am going to become the candidate through popular votes.

“I am sure that this is not going to be an impossible task. Above all, I will not betray Fayose who is our leader.

“For him (Fayose) to have endorsed me, I consider myself to have received uncommon mercy from God. I thank God for showing me mercy,” the governorship aspirant said.

Fayose calls Makinde ‘deadly’ for allegedly sponsoring thugs to attack him

The widely reported reconciliations between former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and Governor Seyi Makinde has been thrown into the dustbin as Fayose on Wednesday attacked Makinde, saying he looked quiet outside but deadly.

Fayose made the revelation in an interview on Channels The former governor was shown a video where some thugs were threatening to kill him at the just concluded PDP’s Southwest zonal congress in Osogbo, Osun State and was asked to comment what the development meant for the PDP.

Fayose said the people in the video were waiting for him to attend the congress and that they would kill him.

He identified the spokesman of the PDP thugs to be a transport union chairman from Oyo State, saying they were sponsored by Makinde to threaten him.

He said this was enough to show the world that if such characters were supporting Makinde, it showed the kind of people behind him.

“What this gentleman was saying at a time before they came to the venue, they said Fayose, we will kill you, we are waiting for you here, we are going to kill you.

“This is the chairman of the Road Transport Workers in Oyo State. These people came with governor Makinde’s convoy. Everybody knows, who is this man? Is he the road transport worker in Ekiti?

“This is enough to show the whole world, if Governor Makinde, a first time two-year-old governor, yet to be two-year-old governor is parading characters like these, it simply shows the kind of people behind him.

“This is shameful for our party, I take responsibility, in the 21st century, thuggery is shameful for our party. You remember I was in Ondo, these same people came to attack me and I told Governor Makinde, so I am glad the whole world is seeing this.

“Governor Makinde, he looks quiet but deadly. Parading these people to wait for me there, they are over a thousand and they were saying they would cut my neck if I dare come to the congress and that was why I made up my mind that I must attend that congress. Even if I die there, I die, so I attended the congress, by the time I got there, they fled.

“So, I don’t think that this is right for Nigeria, it is not right for our party and is condemnable. If anybody wants to do election and you parade 200 buses of thugs, it is sad.”

TNG reports that 675 votes were cast out of which 10 were voided.
Benson Abounu, Benue Deputy, who represented his principal, Gov. Samuel Ortom, as Chairman of the Electoral Panel, announced the result of the election.
Abounu commended the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by the contestants and the delegates for making the process free, fair and peaceful.
While Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State supported Arapaja for the chairmanship position, Mr Ayo Fayose, a former Ekiti governor, supported Olafeso.
Reacting to his victory, Arapaja said both camps would all work together to move the party forward.
“We thank Gov. Seyi Makinde and Mr Ayo Fayose.
“PDP is our party. We will work together to move the party forward.
“We want to reposition the party and I will work with my brother Olafeso to achieve our aims,” Arapaja said.
On his part, Olafeso promised to work with Arapaja to move the party forward.
“The storm is over, there is a new beginning for our party.
“We have to thank God almighty that depsite odds, there is a new beginning for our party.
“The time is now. I thank everybody who supported me,” Olafeso said.
Earlier, Makinde and Fayose, in their opening speeches, promised to accept whoever emerges as the South-West PDP Chairman.

In his remarks, Makinde described the congress as a family affair and also an attempt to reposition the PDP in the South-West.

The governor said that whatever the outcome of the election, he would take it as a family affair.

On his part, Fayose said the issue of the congress was circumstantial, adding that “Makinde is our leader.’’

He also said that he would accept the outcome of the election, but appealed to his supporters and those of Makinde to sheath their swords.

Although, Gov. Makinde waited till the results of the zonal congress was announced, Fayose left before the result was announced.

[Video] Fayose bows to Makinde, accepts him as leader of South-West PDP

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has now publicly accepted Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo as the South West zonal leader.

He made the surprise concession at the zonal congress taking place at WOCDIF Event Centre, Osogbo, capital of Osun on Monday.

“Makinde is the leader and father of the party in Southwest”, he told the delegates.

Leadership tussle between Makinde and Fayose had heated up the zone, with the PDP NWC having to shift the congress from Ibadan to Osogbo.

But Fayose saw in Osogbo today that he no longer enjoys the support of many PDP members, as many of the delegates appeared in an Ankara uniform, to show solidarity with Makinde.

By bowing to Makinde’s leadership, the former governor may have thrown under the bus the people he was backing for the congress election.

What it means for Makinde, is that the zonal leadership team that he favours, will now have an easy ride into office.

Makinde supports Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja as zonal chairman, while Fayose was rooting for Eddy Olafeso.

“Governor Seyi Makinde is our leader. Our supporters and lovers should not continue to put hedge in between us. Either way this election goes, I will accept.

“Even though Arapaja has abused me so much, I will be the first person to visit him in Ibadan.

“Nobody has offended me and if I have offended anybody, I sincerely apologise. Seyi Makinde remains our father come what may”, he added.

Makinde, also addressing the delegates said: “This is a family affair. It is an attempt to reposition our party in the Southwest. It has ramifications for our party nationally.

“Whatever the outcome is, we will take it in the spirit of a family contest. We don’t want to defeat ourselves; we want to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“At the end of this exercise, there will be no victor, no vanquished. As the only Governor of the party in the zone, whoever emerges, I will work with them to reposition the party. I thank you for the peaceful conduct.”

  • Fayemi, Fayose react to bloody Ekiti bye-election

Fayemi, Fayose react to bloody Ekiti bye-election

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Saturday night condemned in strong terms, the violence that marred the bye-election to fill the vacant seat for Ekiti East Constituency 1 in the State House Assembly.

A statement signed by INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, said the “voters, election officials and security personnel” were attacked prompting the commission to suspend voting indefinitely.

A statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti by Mr Yinka Oyebode, his Chief Press Secretary, quoted Fayemi as saying that no one involved in the dastardly act would go unpunished.
The governor had therefore directed the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Babatunde Mobayo, to ensure that everybody involved in the violent act were apprehended and brought to book, regardless of their party affiliation.

Gov. Fayemi commiserated with the families of those reported to have been killed in the mayhem as well as those who sustained injuries.

“ This violence is most unwarranted, and deeply disturbing. I have instructed the police authorities to fish out the perpetrators and ensure they face the music.

” Our condolences to the families that lost loved ones and those who were injured.

” Government would not relent in efforts to always ensure safety of lives and properties. We shall ensure all purveyors of violence are brought to book.”, the governor added.

The governor reiterated the commitment of his administration to upholding the sacredness of life and sanctity of the electoral process.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that no fewer than three persons were on Saturday shot dead in Omuo Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti East LGA during the bye election.

Eyewitnesses said that hardly had the election started when persons suspected to be hired thugs invaded some polling centres, shooting people and attempted to carry away ballot boxes.

Also, a former governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, in a statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Saturday night, condemned the shooting of voters and officials conducting the election.

The former governor said killing of innocent people just because of five wards in the House of Assembly bye-election was barbaric and shameful.

He said: “I thought we have gone past this barbarism in Ekiti State especially when we are confronted with national insecurity to which the government has no solution.

“What was witnessed today in Omuo Ekiti is nothing but terrorism against the people of Ekiti, knowing that time has caught up with them and they are no longer popular.

“This will remain a guilt in the conscience of the perpetrators and their sponsors perpetually for killing their own people just because of a mere House of Assembly bye-election.

“Most importantly, everything that goes round in life comes round. The perpetrators of this despicable act should therefore remember that there will be consequences for all actions because the blood of the dead will surely speak and fight back.

“To the police in Ekiti, they know what to do and the people behind all these, if only they chose not to look away. Ekiti shall be free again if we collectively confront and win this battle against fake apostles of democracy. ‘’

  • Yoruba/Fulani herder crisis: Fayose backs Igboho, urges Makinde to be more proactive

Yoruba/Fulani herder crisis: Fayose backs Igboho, urges Makinde to be more proactive

Ayodele Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti state, has warned against arresting popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, well known as Sunday Igboho.

Igboho had issued a seven-day quit notice to herdsmen accused of kidnapping, rape, farmland destruction, amongst other crimes in the Ibarapa area of Oyo, and enforced same.

He had also confronted herdsmen accused of terrorizing farmers and residents in the Yewa area of Ogun State.

But Igboho has been quiet lately after series of warnings and threats. He has also stopped granting interviews.

However, Fayose noted that Igboho is not ignorable with the current level of insecurity in Nigeria.

The PDP Chieftain told Channels TV on Sunday that the activist must be used positively in the resolution of ethnic crisis and insecurity rather than being threatened.

Fayose said: Sunday Igboho is not ignorable in the circumstance that we have found ourselves. He can now be used positively to make peace rather than condemn him or ask him to go, arrest him or put him behind bars.

“The situation we have at hand now calls for everyone to come to a round table and appeal to their people.

“Sunday Igboho might not be the best of persons but the fact remains that when crises come, they come from the lower cadre of the society and people like him are the ones that can talk to the people. Big men stay in their houses and will send people out to go and resolve it.

“My appeal is that Sunday Igakindeboho, no matter how stupid or how you perceived him, must be brought and used positively in the resolution of this crisis.

Speaking further on the ethnic crisis in Oyo, Fayose called on Governor Seyi Makinde to be more proactive.

He said: “Governor Makinde needs to be more proactive, Oyo state is a big state. Look at what happened in Igangan, when a similar incident happened in Ekiti, I was there that same day. I took charge of that community. I slept in that community. And immediately they mentioned names of people responsible, instead of fighting them, I brought them to the round table, and this I have told Governor Makinde. I sat him down.”

Fayose also spoke about the report linking former Aviation minister Fani-Kayode to the All Progressives Congress.

Fayose quoted James 1:14, about when a man is ‘taken away in his own covetousness’ and said: “Anyone who leaves PDP for APC at this time is taken up in his own covetousness…I know FFK is going nowhere, I’m 100% sure. It’s normal for you to sell your market to anyone interested.

When asked if he could join APC, Fayose said: “I’m over 60, what else am I looking for. I became governor at 42. All the opportunities I wanted, PDP offered me. Some people could choose to be dishonorable, not me.”

[Photo] Fayose’s brother dedicates car, shares receipt of N500k ‘seed’ he sowed in popular Abuja church

Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Governor of Ekiti state Ayodele Fayose, got people reacting as he shared a receipt of the ‘seed he sowed’ in Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), a Church founded by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.

    Isaac shared a receipt of his ‘N500k seed’ on Facebook with the caption;

“My seed for God this last Sunday !! You better start sowing yours … Coza Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.”

However, many commentators condemned him for sharing the act on social media.

“Why showing it on Facebook it should be between you and your God ,people Sha,” a commentator wrote.

“This is lacks of maturity and purely show off. Some People are sowing seed in millions of naira in thousand of dollars….and they will even tell Pastor,” another commentator stated.

“This has to be personal sir. What is done for the left hand, the right hand should not know,” Ayiloge wrote.

“You sowed seed to God in private, and came online to show it to the world, God is wonderful,” another added.

    “This is wrong,” Modolapo wrote.

However, despite the criticism, Isaac Fayose went on to display pictures from his car dedication at the COZA church in Abuja.

“Car dedication today COZA Abuja!!. Thank you Lord for this beautiful gift,” Isaac wrote.

Fayose calls on ICC to probe sacked service chiefs

Former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose has described the sack of Service Chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari as a “step in the right direction.”

He said the development is another victory for Nigerians.

He however called for probe of the former Service Chiefs, accusing them of lining their pockets.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday moments after their removal was announced, Fayose said: “Though coming after persistent pressure from Nigerians, President Buhari’s removal of the Service Chiefs and their replacement is a right step in the right direction. It is yet another victory for the people of Nigeria.

“The sacked Service Chiefs only served themselves and their pockets and can at best be described as “Disservice Chiefs” under whom Nigeria became completely insecure.

“It is my call to the ICC and other relevant authorities that tenure of the “sacked” Service Chiefs should be investigated, most importantly human rights abuses and extra judicial killings under their watch and commands.”

Arresting Igboho will escalate tension, Fayose warns IGP, Makinde

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has cautioned against any attempt to arrest Sunday Adeyemo, a youth activist popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

He told Oyo governor Seyi Makinde and Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, that arresting Igboho would escalate tension in the South-West region.

Recall that the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhumadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, during an interview with BBC Hausa, said IGP Adamu, had ordered the arrest of Igboho for giving Fulani in Oyo State an ultimatum to exit the state.

Shehu also claimed that the IGP had ordered the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, to immediately transfer Igboho to Abuja after his arrest.

Makinde had also directed Onadeko to arrest “persons found guilty of stoking ethnic tension”.

However, Fayose wondered why Igboho would be arrested, saying northern governors had a dialogue with terrorists.

He tweeted, “Gov Seyi Makinde should rather use dialogue and persuasion instead of escalating tension in his own State by calling for the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo or anyone at this time.

“If FG and some governors could ‘dialogue’ with Boko Haram terrorists, Gov Makinde calling all stakeholders to a round-table discussion will not be a misplaced action.

“Any attempt to arrest anyone will cause a further threat to the already fragile peace in the West and the country as a whole. Above all, any unchecked escalation may lead to a state of emergency.”
