Reinstating Sheriff as PDP Chairman is ‘rape on democracy’ – Fayose

The chairman of the Governors Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Appeal Court, Port Harcourt judgement reinstating Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff as National Chairman of the party, as a `rape on democracy’.

Ayo Fayose, who is also Ekiti State Governor, made the remark in Abuja on Friday while reacting to the outcome of the judgement.

According to Fayose, the judgment was against the will of the people.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt in a ruling Friday nullified PDP National Convention held in the Rivers capital in May 2016. The court also nullified the National Caretaker Committee of the party constituted at the convention, and held that Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff remains the National Chairman of PDP.

Two out of the three-member Appeal Court, Justice B.G. Sanga and Justice A. Gumel, in their judgment said the Port Harcourt convention on May 21, 2016, was an abuse of court process.

Delivering the lead judgment, Sanga said that PDP did not follow the provisions of Article 47(3) of its Constitution in the removal of the Sherrif-led National Working Committee.

Fayose, however, said that the party would appeal the judgment in the Supreme Court.

“If the people truly symbolise what a party is, then the machinations of our detractors and the anti-democracy organs will not prevail at last.

“We commend the minority judgment of the lower court and we believe the truth will prevail. It is a matter of time.

“Thank God we have another opportunity to seek justice at the Supreme Court, which I believe will not be delayed or denied, because when justice is delayed it is denied.

“It is a party matter that must be addressed as soon as possible.

“The party will appeal the judgement as we believe in the ability of the judiciary to do justice,’’ Fayose said.

The governor however, appealed to members, sympathisers, leaders and supporters of the PDP to remain calm saying “we are sure justice will come at last’’.

“If this is the price to pay, to keep our democracy alive and opposition strengthened, we are prepared to go the whole hug and for a time like this,’’ the governor said.

Fayose said that organs of the party would meet shortly to take concrete decisions on the way forward.

He also assured that the governors’ forum and various organs of the leadership of the party remain united and strong.

“You have the assurance of my colleagues that we should be less worried about this development.

“We will take steps and continue to ensure that the interest and future of this party is not mortgaged,”he said.

The forum chairman said that the Sen. Ahmed Markarfi-led PDP faction has majority of supporters on its side including governors, senators, House of Representatives members, state party chairmen.

“We want to believe that the same judiciary will right the wrong,’’ he said.

Fayose said the judgement would not affect ongoing efforts aimed at re-positioning the party or the governorship election in his state.

“I am a nation of Israel amidst the enemies; nobody defeats the nation of Israel. I will never be defeated,’’ the governor said.

On the withheld Ekiti state’s statutory allocation, Fayose assured the workers to expect their salaries on Tuesday.

“I can gladly tell you that a letter has been transmitted since yesterday (Thursday) for the release of the money. Whatever reason they give is not as important as that money.

“I want to assure the people of Ekiti that they will get alert on Tuesday,’’ Fayose said

In his reactions, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Sen. Walid Jubril, said that the judgment was not a threat to the party but would rather unite them.

He said that the party would go to any length to resolve the issue.

Jubril also urged PDP members to be calm and not defect to other parties as it was engaging in consultation with all organs of the party to ensure that the party remained strong.

“I am sure that very soon everybody will smile. Those who are crying today will laugh again and PDP will one day become one party and strong. All these is a question of time,’’ Jubril said.

He said that the party would on Tuesday come out with a statement.

  • Fayose storms finance ministry, demands release of N1.1bn January allocation

Fayose storms finance ministry, demands release of N1.1bn January allocation

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State on Wednesday stormed the Ministry of Finance in Abuja to press home his demand of the state’s N1.1bn budget support facility for the month of January.

The governor on getting to the ministry requested to see the Minister, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun but was told that she was at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the Acting President, Prof. yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Fayose while addressing newsmen lamented the Federal Government’s refusal to pay the state’s allocation when other 35 states had received theirs.

The governor said that he received a text message from the Central Bank of Nigeria recently that the money had been paid only to be informed again by the apex bank that Ekiti was not included on the list of payment.

This, according to him, was unacceptable as many workers in the state are currently suffering the negative impact of the delay in releasing the fund.

In his words: “I believe I should do a follow up today (Wednesday) to meet with the minister of finance for an update, but she actually called me on Tuesday that she just got back but she was going to look into it today (Wednesday) and have it resolved as soon as possible.

“You will however appreciate that Ekiti civil servants are restive, having spent money during Christmas and there is no money in January, obviously there will be challenges.

“By the time I got here, the minister has already gone for the Federal Executive Council meeting, but I met the Special Adviser, who assured me that the matter will be resolved when the minister is back.

“What we are talking about is a part of the monthly allocation and the budget support fund which is about N1.1bn that have not been paid.

“I believe this should be done immediately and I want to believe also that it was a mix up and not political. But if it is political, they will have a lot of questions to answer why it should be so.

“If they want to fight Fayose, they should fight Fayose, not the civil servants of Ekiti, but I appreciate her promise to resolve the matter.”

The governor said if the promise of the finance minister was not quickly implemented, he would have no other option but to continue to raise the alarm by bringing the issue back to the public domain.

He said, “It is only Ekiti that is involved and this is the second time and that explains why I was suspicious and have to act fast.

“I got a text from the Central Bank of Nigeria that the money has been paid and later I learnt that there is a withdrawal of that instruction that Ekiti was not included in the list out of the entire federation.

“So, naturally when it happened that it was just Ekiti State alone, I have to be suspicious. The minister has given me her word, at her level as a minister that is good enough.

“If the promise of the minister to resolve this issue as quickly as possible is not adhere to, I will have to bring it back to the public domain.

“We are all in the court of the public opinion where the public is able to judge whether justice is served at all times. Governance is beyond all of us but I want to believe that they will do it.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Ministry of Finance is yet to issue any rejoinder over Governor Fayose’s claim.

  • FG’s refusal to release monthly allocation to Ekiti is vindictive – Fani-Kayode

Former minister of aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode on Wednesday said Federal Government’s refusal to release the monthly allocation to Ekiti State Government is petty, vindictive and reprehensible.

Simply because the courageous Ayo Fayose has become the rallying point of opposition against Muhammadu Buhari does not mean that the people of Ekiti state should suffer.

I call on Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to intervene in this matter expeditiously and release the Ekiti State Governnent’s allocation forthwith.

Recall that Ekiti state Governor, Ayode Fayose yesterday addressed the media over the seizure of the state’s allocation while alleging that FG has plans to cripple activities under his administration.

Fayose’s words, “I called you here today to intimate you about the new plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government to cripple our state by rendering it impossible for the government to carry out its statutory financial obligations.

“It is alarming that while we were almost concluding that the siege on Ekiti and its people by the APC government in Abuja, with full collaboration from leaders of the party in Ekiti State had stopped, we are now being confronted with yet another shenanigan by those who won’t mind to see Ekiti people die of hunger just to achieve their selfish political agenda ahead of the 2018 election.

“The question is; if they have issues with Fayose politically, must they suffer the innocent government workers?

“Two weeks ago, some top functionaries of the APC in Ekiti State met in Abuja where it was decided that renew efforts should be made to cripple the State. It was agreed that the federal government must be made to stop all intervention funds to Ekiti State while the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should be used to cripple the finances of contractors handling government legacy projects.

“The game plan is that the moment workers do not receive their salary, they will hate me and my party, the PDP and this they believe will translate to votes for them in 2018.

“This new onslaught against Ekiti State and its people started with the stoppage of the State January allocation and statutory budget support fund.

“While all states in Nigeria received their full allocation from the federation account last month, the budget support fund was not release to Ekiti State thereby making it impossible for the state to meet its financial obligations, most especially the payment of salaries.

  • I’m an authority in politics, whatever I say must come to pass – Fayose

I’m an authority in politics, whatever I say must come to pass – Fayose

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said he remains an authority in Nigerian political landscape and this attests to why his ‘prophecies’ has never failed to pass.

Fayose said he is not afraid of anyone and will continue to speak his mind without fear of intimidation of harrassement.

Speaking with The Punch, Fayose said: “Many have been silent now for the fear of the unknown. I’m the longest serving governor; I served under former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo; Goodluck Jonathan and Buhari. So I’m an experienced governor. This is why when I say things, they happen like that. Most of the things I say happen.

“Some people in the APC are praising me for saying the truth always. They can’t talk. Courage is a virtue from God. Fearlessness is a virtue from God. If you don’t want to die, why are you a governor? People only want the benefits of the office, not the pains of office. I have nothing personal against anybody: I speak my mind and let the devil be ashamed.

“I’m not their mate when it comes to politics: I’m a professor of politics. I’m an authority.”

When asked for his opinion on Senator Buruji Kashamu’s comments on his emergence as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors forum, Fayose chose to show “maturity”.

“I will restrain myself from saying things that would further cause troubles within the party. I want to show maturity.

“If Senator Buruji Kashamu has anything against that, he should go to court. He knows how to go to court.”

“I don’t want to go to the senate, so when they are talking in the Senate, Buruji Kashamu should pay attention to it and not issues of governors. It is in the wisdom of governors,” Fayose said.

  • Fayose okays payment of CONMESS to doctors

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has approved the payment of Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) to medical doctors on its payroll.

This followed a meeting held between the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, and leaders of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Wednesday.

In a statement in Ado-Ekiti by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the two sides, however, agreed that the effective date of the payment of the new salary structure would be in March this year.

Speaking after the meeting, Governor Fayose said the financial constraints facing the state was responsible for the delay in endorsing the agreement.

We don’t take workers’ welfare for granted ‎and we have been doing our best in that regard. We would have started paying before now, if not for the financial constraints we are facing in the state. Though we ought to have done this before, it is better late than never. We have agreed to start paying it by March this year.

By the grace of God, we will keep to our words. We hope too that our doctors and workers generally will put up more efforts and deliver better and qualitative services to our people,” he said.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Ekiti State Chairman of the NMA, Dr Sunday Omoya, commended the state government for supporting the association.

We have been on this issue for some months and we are happy that it has been resolved now‎. The CONMESS is being paid at the federal level and some states are also paying, we are happy that our amiable governor has approved it. We are happy that we are one of the states that have approved the payment.

As an association we will always show gratitude to the governor for his assistance and support and we are promising that we will be more committed and improve on service delivery,” he said.

  • Nationwide protest saga: Fayose lists entertainers on APC’s payroll

Nationwide protest saga: Fayose lists entertainers on APC’s payroll

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has reacted to the public outrage that emanated since he declared support for the 2face led planned nationwide protest.

Speaking through his media aide Lere Olayinka, he outlined entertainers who are on All Progressives Congress(APC)’s payroll.

According to him:”The APC online supporters have warned Tuface against allowing opposition politicians to join the protest. The hypocrisy of these APC people is legendary!”

“Anyway, for the sake of clarity, Fayose only declared support for the rally being an opposition figure! However, If Fayose is one of those bankrolling the protest, so be it!!! I want to say without any fear or favour that 90% of protests staged against Goodluck Jonathan government had financial support from Bourdillon and APC controlled states and I stand corrected.”

“When Tinubu and APC Governors were bankrolling Actors and Actresses such as 9ice (Who later served as Special Adviser to APC Gov. Ajimobi in Oyo), Ronke Oshodi Oke (She’s a member of APC transition committee in Ondo), Dayo Adeneye D1 (current Commissioner for Information in Ogun State) Desmond Elliot (now a member of Lagos State House of Assembly), Jide Josoko (Veteran APC Reps Aspirant from Lagos) etc to stage protest against Jonathan’s government, heaven did not fall.”

“All the aforementioned entertainers were at Freedom Park, Ojota in January 2012 for one week, singing against Jonathan in the presence of Pastor Tunde Bakare of the CPC (now APC) and Dino Melaye; and Heaven did not fall then.”

“Those of you making noise today applauded anti-Jonathan protesters and the opposition politicians supporting them. The then Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi in particular gave N10 million to Occupy Naija members in Ado-Ekiti. So why should Fayose’s case be different? “

  • Fayose, a warrior with heart of lion – Fani Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the Peoples Democraty Party, PDP, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode, has described the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose as a warrior with the heart of a lion.

The former spokesperson of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign team made the remark in a post on his Facebook wall after hosting the governor in his Abuja residence.

Fani-Kayode wrote: “Wonderful time with our dearest friend and brother Governor Ayo Fayose, a man who has the heart of a warrior and a lion.

“It was an honor and a privilege to spend the afternoon with him in our home today. I love this man with all my heart and he is doing great things for both Ekiti State and Nigeria.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Fayose, a fierce critique of The President Muhammadu Buhari led administration has been in the news for various reasons lately.

He prevented operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, from arresting the Overseer of the Omega Fires Ministries, OFM, Apostle Johnson Suleman in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital in the early hours of Wednesday.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that the secret police had attempted to arrest Suleman over his recent message asking his members to kill any Fulani herdsman found around him or the church.

Fani-Kayode’s remark also comes at a time when Fayose vowed to remain a thorn in the flesh of the All Progressives Congress, APC government.

Fayose had explained that he will continue to criticise the Buhari-led government because it has failed and Nigerians are tired.

The governor had said, “I will continue to leak their secrets. I will remain a thorn in their flesh. Anything they want to do, let them come. If they want to carry their police, let them carry their police. I don’t care.”

  • Fayose prevents DSS from arresting Apostle Johnson Suleman in Ekiti

Mr Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti state governor early this morning Wednesday January 25 stopped operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) efforts to arrest Apostle Johnson Suleman of The Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide in Ado Ekiti.

The Pastor who was in Ado Ekiti for a two-day crusade was alleged to have preached against Fulani Herdsmen rampage by ordering his members to kill any suspected herdsmen they find near him or his church recently in Auchi, Edo State.

Suleman was reportedly trailed after paying a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House to his hotel room by the operatives of the DSS in Adebayo area of the State capital.

The DSS operatives who almost forced their way into the hotel was also said to have been resisted by security men of the hotel who insisted on knowing their mission.

The pastor was said to have alerted Governor Fayose to apprise him of the sudden development.

Consequently, Fayose personally led a rescue mission to prevent the DSS from going away with the pastor by taking him to safety.

According to Suleman: “I received several calls from hidden numbers trying to locate where I am and I had warned my security not to allow any Fulani man to come nearer me. So when the men of DSS came in the middle of the night I knew their mission and I had to call the Governor because if they arrest me, they will put this country in fire.”

  • Fayose is lion of western politics – Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has said Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State can be likened to a lion in Nigeria’s political landscape especially in the South West. far as participation and vibrancy is concerned in Nigeria’s political landscape especially in the South West.

He said Fayose’s stance on national issues has made him the nightmare of the government of the day.

  • Fayose lacks decorum to lead PDP Governors’ Forum – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State says Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State lacks decorum to function as the Chairman of Governors’ Forum of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC made its stance known in a statement issued in Akure on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya.

“PDP is on a voyage of total destruction and abandonment with the emergence of uncultured governor like Mr Fayose that lacks decorum, whose past records, attitude and public utterance are seen as affront.

“It shows PDP is lacking in men and women of proven integrity with high level of mental alertness considering the enormous challenges facing our dear country as a result of the PDP’s 16 years of misrule.

“It is unfortunate that Fayose, who was alleged to have beaten up a Judge in his state, who is seen to be suffering from `diarrhea of the mouth’ could be allowed to lead PDP Governors’ Forum,’’ Adesanya said.

He said that the PDP was in comatose under the leadership of the outgoing Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, as the chairman of its governors’ forum

Adesanya advised the opposition party to criticise constructively in the interest of Nigerian democracy and to always propagate good leadership.
