Buhari merged APC, INEC, military to rig Rivers rerun election -Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of paying lips service to the sustenance of democracy in the country.

Fayose said, “Any president that looks the other way while the rights of his people to freely elect their leaders is being snatched at gunpoint by his own party men is not worthy of being associated with democracy.”

Fayose said this in a press release by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, on Sunday while reacting to the conduct of the Saturday’s rerun National and State House of Assembly elections in Rivers State.

He described the poll as a sad reminder of the level of destruction already done to the country’s electoral process by the All Progressives Congress’ government.

According to him, with what happened in the elections, ‘free, fair and credible election’ is dead in the country and whatever victory recorded by any political party in the election will be nothing but victory at gun-point.

“It is clear that Nigeria is under siege and only prompt intervention by the international community could save democracy in the country from this imminent collapse,” he said.

Fayose said it was worrisome that the legacy of free, fair and credible election left by the Peoples Democratic Party had been destroyed less than two years that the APC assumed power.

“We thought that we have gone past this era of manipulated electoral process after the 2015 general elections, which brought the APC and President Buhari to power, but the Buhari administration has taken us back to the stone age by merging his party, APC with the Independent National Electoral Commission, the police, military and other security agencies.

“It is sad that snatching of ballot boxes, hijacking of voting materials and electoral violence which had become a thing of the past have now become part of our electoral process.

“It is even more worrisome that despite the fact that votes are counted openly at the polling units, electorate are no longer sure of the results of elections until announcement by INEC, which has become an organ of the APC.”

Fayose, a member of the PDP, reiterated his call to the United States of America President-Elect, Mr Donald Trump, to focus his attention more on Nigeria, with a view to saving the country from disintegrating.

“God forbid, if Nigeria disintegrates, the entire continent of Africa will disintegrate.

  • Fayose lambasts FG over removal of Wike’s CSO

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has condemned the Federal Government over the removal of the Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the Rivers State Governor, Mr Nyesom Wike less than five days to the State’s legislative re-run election.

Fayose said, “With this ignoble action by the federal government, it is now clear that the government is out to subvert the will of the people of Rivers State by whatever means in favour of the All Progressives Congress, APC.”

“Nigeria deserves total attention from the international community at this time. The international community should not look the other way while those holding power in Abuja plunge the country into crisis of international magnitude.”

Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, quoted the governor as saying that it was getting clearer that Governor Wike was right when he claimed that there was a plot to assassinate him before Saturday.

The governor said President Muhammadu Buhari should be reminded that he sworn to protect all Nigerians, irrespective of the party they belong to.

He queried, “How can anyone tamper with security aides of a State Governor without his consent? How can the Chief Security Officer of a state governor be changed without the consent of the governor? Isn’t it now clear that they actually want to kill Governor Wike before the Saturday election?”

Governor Fayose, who said all steps being taken by the federal government were geared towards turning Nigeria to a one party state, warned that “Nigeria can never be turned to a one party State and if care is not taken, by the time this house of democracy is destroyed by the APC cabal, no one will be spared.”

He said those trying to impose their will on the people by whatever means must leant from history, especially what happened in Nigeria between 1979 and 1983 and where it led Nigeria to.

  • Fayose drops bombshell, says, I am not sure of the platform to use for Ekiti 2018 governorship election

Sequel to the recently concluded results of the Ondo State governorship election which the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP lost to the All Progressives Congress, APC Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said he is not sure if he will present his candidate on the platform of the PDP.

Fayose, who dropped the hint in Ikere Ekiti while meeting with the members of the Suppliers’ Association of Nigeria, Ikere chapter, said “I don’t know the platform I will use for the 2018 election yet and at the appropriate time, I will tell you”.

“We are still studying the situation. We have to play the game left, right and centre and whoever we are going to use and the platform, you will all be part of the process because party politics is about the people”. Fayose also said the victory of Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the APC in the Saturday’s governorship poll in Ondo State does not in any way threaten the popularity and general acceptability of the PDP in Ekiti.

The governor, who described Akeredolu’s victory at the poll as a collaborative effort of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the ruling APC, added that the victory did not confer legitimacy on the poll or lent credence to the fact that Ondo electorate had voted rightly.

“You all saw how people sold their votes in Ondo state, I am confident that that will not happen in Ekiti. I am close to the people you are the source of my strength . Even if it requires just 48 hours to any election, if I tell you where to go, you will surely follow me there”, Fayose said.

Meanwhile at a separate meeting with the junior staff of the state civil service, Fayose had also boasted that he will repeat the 16-0 he meted out to Ex-governor Kayode Fayemi in 2014, where he defeated the incumbent in all the sixteen local governments.

In his words: “APC will be fooling itself if it thinks it will conquer Ekiti like it did in Ondo. Ekiti is a peculiar place and I am the man on ground here. I want to assure my supporters and Nigerians that APC won’t win a local government here in 2018, even if President Muhammadu Buhari moves down all the money in FG’s TSA.

“Governor Olusegun Mimiko and Eyitayo Jegede must have lost in Ondo State, but that does not mean the people had voted rightly. In 2015, people clamoured for change and what have we got now? Nigerians are becoming poorer than ever.

“Today, I am the only one among the APC governors in the southwest. I am now like the nation of Israel surrounded by enemies, but I shall defeat and triumph over them. “APC has never defeated me in any battle, either political or legal. Whether they like it or not, I will win in Ekiti no matter the animosity, because I have the people behind me”, Fayose said.
