Federal govt reveals how VP Shettima convinced Bishop Kukah to accept Tinubu’s appointment

The minister of Education, Tunji Alausa has revealed how President Bola Tinubu-led administration successfully convinced the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, to accept the role of Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council at the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.

TheNewsGuru reports that Alausa while speaking at the inauguration of the university’s Governing Council and Principal Officers in Abuja explained that Vice President Kashim Shettima played a crucial role in nominating and persuading Bishop Kukah to take on the appointment.

Recounting the Vice President’s involvement, Alausa while speaking at the Ministry’s conference hall, said, “Bishop Kukah is very busy. When the Vice President was nominating Bishop Kukah, he was very worried that I’m going to put a lot of burden on his mind. The Vice President said Bishop Kukah has so much respect for him.

He continued, quoting the Vice President: “I’m giving the words of the Vice President now. ‘He has so much respect for me. Every time I’ve asked him to do something, he accepts that service. I want to ask him to take on the position of the Pro Chancellor. I know he’s already stretched to the limit, but for my own selfishness, for the country, in service of the country, I will ask him. And I know he will not say no.’”

According to the Education minister, Vice President Shettima reached out to Bishop Kukah, the religious leader agreed to take on the position, saying, “Yes, I will do it.”

The Minister expressed his gratitude to Bishop Kukah for accepting the role, despite his many responsibilities, describing his decision as a reflection of his commitment to education and his dedication to serving the community.

  • Just in: FG fails to pay N77000 stipend to NYSC members in February as promised

Just in: FG fails to pay N77000 stipend to NYSC members in February as promised

The Federal Government has failed to pay N77,000.00 earlier promised to take effect at the end of February, 2025.

Corps members confirmed receiving their February allowance on Friday night, only to find out that it remained unchanged at N33,000 — less than half of the new amount that was supposedly approved.

The development contradicts the assurances given in January by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, who had publicly stated that the allowance increment was a done deal, awaiting only the passage of the 2025 budget.

The Federal Government has already approved the increment of your allowance. It is no longer news; we have the approval in our hands. What we are waiting for is just the passage of the budget,” Ahmed had told corps members in Katsina State, vowing that by February, they would start receiving N77,000.

However, February has come and gone, and the promise remains unfulfilled.

The Tinubu government has not provided any official explanation for the failure to implement the increase, leaving corps members stranded and frustrated in the face of a worsening economic crisis.

With Nigeria’s inflation rate soaring and the cost of living becoming unbearable, the N33,000 allowance is no longer enough for corps members to meet even their basic needs.

Many struggle to afford food, transportation, and accommodation, as prices of essential commodities skyrocket due to bad economic policies and naira depreciation under Tinubu’s administration.

A corps member serving in Oyo expressed his disappointment, saying, ”How do they expect us to survive on ₦33,000 when everything is expensive? They told us we would get ₦77,000 this month, and now they have failed again. This government keeps making promises but never delivers.”

Another corps member in Kano lamented that the delay in the allowance increment is yet another example of the government’s insensitivity to the struggles of young Nigerians.

“We are serving our country, yet we cannot even afford decent meals. The government knows that ₦33,000 is not enough, but they don’t care. They keep making empty promises while we suffer,” she said.

The failure to implement the promised allowance increase has further eroded trust in the Tinubu administration, which has been widely criticised for its economic policies that have. worsened inflation, unemployment, and poverty across the country.

BREAKING: PDP Reps give Federal Government three months deadline to address insecurity or face mass sensitisation of Nigerians on personal security

…say the the one life, one minute silence no longer acceptable

The House of Representatives Peoples Democratic Party PDP on Tuesday asked Federal Government to urgently address the security situation in Nigeria or face mass sensitisation of Nigerians on how to handle the situation personally.

Members of the opposition party in HoR led by Rep Kingsley Chinda made this declaration while briefing NASS Reps press corps on Tuesday saying:

“We have just concluded the third meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party Caucus in the 10th Assembly and we have resolved firstly to tell all of us and the world that the PDP caucus in the house of representatives remain united, indivisible, committed and out to perform her duty as the watchdog on behalf of the Nigerian people.

“In the same vein we x-rayed the security situation in our country and we resolved that we can no longer take this situation where Nigeria is today almost tagged as one life, one minute silence.

“The government is therefore called upon to immediately take steps to ensure that the security situation in the country is normalized and the caucus have also given three-months ultimatum for government to normalize the security situation in our country.

“After three-months the caucus will take further steps to sensitize and mobilize Nigerians to perhaps take their security into their hands.

“The house of representatives caucus also agreed to call on all party caucuses, the board of trustees, national executive committee and the national working committee of the party to embark on reconciliatory measures with the view to resolve all litigations that are pending and that has hindered the party in anyway whatsoever from having a substantive national Chairman.

“We call on our leaders, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to continue to demonstrate unconditional loyalty to the party and ensure that the party is moved to abide or place where she enjoyed the position of the largest party in Africa and to take back the Aso Villa which is actually supposed to be our birth right. And so for us, we are going back as we resume the session to commence a strong, verile and purpose driven opposition to give the people a voice in the parliament.

It is to mark the World Milk Day, 2021 with the theme: “Sustainability in the Dairy Sector.”

This declaration by the Federal Government came as the ACCI’s policy centre issued a policy brief on Nigeria Dairy Sector with far reaching policy recommendations to deepen and expand the dairy sector.

Nanono, representated by Mrs Mercy Otiteh, said the ministry had mobilised contractors to various sites across the country with a target to revive the grazing reserves.

According to him, work is presently ongoing with monitoring team supervising progress of works at various centres.

Nanono said the Federal Government was committed to providing infrastructures that would make the reserves suitable for pastoralist, thereby increasing Nigerians local dairy production capacity.

He noted that government was collaborating with local and international partners to improve relationship between farmer/herder through revitalisation of grazing reserves.

He urged Nigerians to support government efforts in its avowed resolve to find lasting solution to the clashes.

Dr Al-Mujtaba Abubakar, President, ACCI while commending government’s efforts, officially released the ACCI policy brief on Dairy Sector in Nigeria.

Abubakar called for intensive backward integration within the dairy sector as currently championed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the ministry of agriculture.

“The major policy thrust of the ACCI-Policy brief on the dairy sub-sector are as follows: Continuation and expansion of backward integration being supported by CBN and Private-sector-driven implementation of the National livestock transformation plan.

“Creation of the private sector driven ranching system, Establishment of a National Dairy Board, Training and capacity building of pastoralists and Deployment of modern technology to every segment of the dairy business,” he said.

Owoka said that ending open grazing was in the collective interest of Northerners and Southerners and urged governments to fast track ongoing works on the grazing reserves.

The keynote speaker, Mr Azubike Nwokoye from ActionAid Nigeria, also called for increased government funding in agriculture sector, especially the livestock industry due to the current national security challenges.

Azubike said adequate funding was necessary to realise the goal of ranching and grazing reserves, noting that without funding it would be difficult to stop open grazing.

“Cow rearing demands lots of water. Therefore, we suggest that solar power borehole should be widely provided to meet the needs of pastoralists and cows,” he added.

Mr Israel Dan’Auta, Representative of Chi Ltd., commended the Federal Government, CBN and Niger State government for their support to expand local production of milk.

Listing various efforts by Chi Ltd. to source milk locally, he said its ongoing project in Niger was being deployed to empower local milk producers as well as raise new breeds of cows with higher milk generating capacity.

The Director-General, ACCI, Victoria Akai, advised governments at all levels to put the private sector in the driver seat on the implementation of national livestock transformation plan.

She said that Public Private Partnership is at the heart of the ACCI policy brief that would be widely circulated to governments and stakeholders for actions
