Fani-Kayode flaunts alleged girlfriend at triplets’ birthday party

Former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode got many talking, when he recently showed off a lady alleged to be his girlfriend.

According to speculations, the politician is in love with a beauty queen, Miss Ezenwa Chika Nerita who was crowned as Queen of Aso International 2019/2020.

The party was organized on Tuesday to celebrate the third birthday of Ragnar, Aiden and Liam – a set of male triplets born to Mr Fani-Kayode and his ex-wife Precious Chikwendu.

In one of the videos, Fani-Kayode is seen holding Ms Ezenwa closely by the waist as the party guests cheered on.

Popular blogger, Kemi Olunloyo was among guests at the party.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Fani-Kayode and Chikwendu’s union crashed last year over allegations of domestic violence among others. The ex-lovers are also drawn in a legal battle for custody of the children.

Ever since his union with Chikwendu hit the rocks, Fani-Kayode has been romantically linked to several women .

Some time in 2020, he denied dating another woman ,months after news of crisis in his marriage to Chikwendu broke in the public space.

Fani-Kayode reopens old wounds on TB Joshua’s collapsed church building

Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode on Monday reopened old wounds on the collapse of Pastor T. B. Joshua’s church building, stressing that there was a grand agenda behind it.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls on 12 September 2014, a guesthouse belonging to the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) premises around the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos State collapsed completely to the ground.

Fani-Kayode said he has researched the matter for years, and that there is far more to it than what the public have been told, stressing that the church building was targetted and brought down by a very sophisticated device.

“The narrative that T.B. Joshua’s SCOAN Church building collapsed as a consequence of a bad foundation is false. This stale, discredited & fanciful tale was put out years ago by agents of the Deep State to discredit the Prophet & to fool the public. The court case is also a sham.

“I researched the matter for years. There is far more to it than what the public have been told. The Church building was targetted & brought down by a very sophisticated device & those that were in charge of our security services & intelligence agencies at that time know this.

“This was not an accident but a deliberate, cold-blooded & premeditated murder and one day those behind it will be brought to book. They know who they are & why they did it. They also know the length they went to to cover it up. This was a great evil but God will expose them.

“One day the truth will come out & there will be confessions. When that day comes Nigerians will be shocked & those behind it will be brought to justice. May the souls of those that were killed continue to RIP & may God continue to comfort TB Joshua & the SCOAN family for this loss,” Fani-Kayode stated.

Recall that the senior pastor of SCOAN, Pastor T. B. Joshua had linked the tragedy to a strange aircraft that hovered above the building shortly before it collapsed.

The video of the alleged aircraft that hovered above the building shortly before it collapsed was subsequently released on YouTube.

Meanwhile, the then Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola ordered all church workers away from the scene in-order to properly rescue trapped bodies.

However, coroner’s report unequivocally found the cause of the church’s building collapse to be due to structural failure.

Three government agencies, the Nigeria Building And Road Research Institute (NBBRI), the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG) examined the site and reported inadequacies.

The government also claimed the church did not get government approval before construction.

However, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other emergency services were criticized for withholding information about the accident and much remained unclear about the number of deaths and their nationalities.

But, at least, 115 people, 84 of them South Africans were reported killed in the collapsed SCOAN’s building.

Meanwhile, Fani-Kayode’s comment followed a video released by Prophet TB Joshua of a prophecy for Nigeria which he gave almost seven years ago on July 27, 2014.

In the video that resurfaced recently on social media, the SCOAN General Overseer predicted that Nigeria would be covered by a cloud of “crisis, murder, killings, destruction” but would not break up.

“Nothing will happen to Nigeria. Nigeria will remain one,” Joshua assured the congregation during a service at SCOAN.

The video’s release comes amid sustained calls for Nigeria’s breakup by proponents of a Biafran government and other aggrieved persons and organisations, following worsening terrorism, kidnapping and banditry.

“Beyond this crisis, Nigeria is beautiful. Your prayer now is that you should witness it so that this crisis will not take you away,” the cleric declared.

“It is decreed that this nation will be reckoned with as a powerful nation,” he continued, adding that his prophecy would become a point of reference many years later.

However, he warned members of the ‘political class’ of impending repercussions for their contributions to the crisis.

“Huge trouble is coming and no human being will withstand it unless you don’t have hand in that trouble,” he boldly declared.

“There is a cloud that covers Nigeria… the cloud of crisis, murder, killings, destruction covers Nigeria. The cloud will go; Nigeria will remain.”

Joshua then questioned the rationale of those who are “interested in power that cannot give them peace.”

“Power without peace is powerless…The manner you have that power will determine whether there will be peace in it,” he counselled.

“The power is in the heart, not in the gun, not in the White house or Aso Rock. If you are living in the White House without power in the heart, it is like you are living in the bush,” he further added.

Calling on his followers to pray for Nigeria, the cleric insisted that Nigeria would not break up. “I want to assure you: Nigeria – nothing will happen to Nigeria. Nigeria will remain one!”

Speaking on the spate of insecurity fuelled by banditry and terrorism, Joshua revealed: “They have infiltrated everywhere. There is no section or department in this country that these people are not there. It has become a professional job.”

He stressed that protection only lies in God. “There is no one that is secured by power and might and gun that they cannot get unless those whom God protects – because they have infiltrated everywhere. They are no more inside the bush; they are everywhere.”

Joshua called on the ‘political class’ to eschew differences and “discuss about the security and oneness of this country.

“There will be answer if they can pay the price, put their political agenda behind and discuss the unity of this nation,” he stressed, describing the situation of Nigeria as “very sensitive”.

“Quote me once again – security, police, guns, soldiers cannot protect anyone again because everywhere is infiltrated,” he concluded before praying for God’s will to be done.

In a short introduction to the clip “from the archives”, Joshua explained more about the timing of prophecy.

“Prophecy is given when there is no situation on the ground,” he explained during a service on Friday 7th May 2021, adding a prophet would declare ‘it will rain’ when there was no sign of rain in the atmosphere.

During the #EndSARS protests that engulfed Nigeria last year, a video of Joshua forewarning of a revolution spearheaded by youth surfaced and subsequently went viral.

2023: Fani-kayode under fire for endorsing ‘mentally unfit’ Yahaya Bello for president

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode is under severe criticism on Twitter for recommending Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Some of the outraged critics recalled how Fani-Kayode once described Yahaya Bello as a politician whose mental faculties are non-functional.

In one of his tweets dated April 5, 2018. Fani-Kayode had described Yahaya Bello as ‘an accursed slave’ whose mental faculties are non-functional.

The North Central Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had asked Bello to relinquish his desire to run for the position of president come 2023 after he declared his interest.

But reacting on Sunday, Fani-Kayode took to his Twitter page to say it is absurd for some Nigerians to kick against the North Central producing the next Nigerian President.

He noted that Nigeria needs strong and decisive leadership, a generational change and a bridge-builder.

“The idea that Gov. Yahaya Bello should not run for the Presidency & that the NC zone, which has never produced a democratically-elected President, ought to settle for another position is absurd,” Fani-Kayode said.

A video of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has surfaced on the social media in which he was seen threatening a young man with a hammer.

As seen in the video, Fani-Kayode became all smiles when he noticed a camera was down on him.

Immediately he saw the camera he shielded and covered the hammer with his body, and then changed the topic of discussion.

A female voice at the end of the video was heard saying, “he had a hammer in his hand. Because the camera came out, he took the hammer away”.

Custody battle: Fani-Kayode’s first wife attacks estranged mate

The custody battle between former beauty queen, Precious Chikwendu and Femi Fani-Kayode has taken a different turn as the former Minister’s first wife has waded into the controversy.

Regina who countered allegations of FFK assaulting Precious in a statement she released on Saturday March 13, alleged that the beauty queen told her that she was caught naked in a hotel room with a man by her now estranged husband.

The minister’s first wife also alleged that Precious was locked up in a mental hospital for one month after allegedly trying to kill her kids.

She also alleged that the former beauty queen who knew she (Regina) was still married to FFK before tying the nuptial knots with him, ran down businesses FFK opened for her.

    The statement reads in full:

STATEMENT BY MRS. REGINA FANI-KAYODE ON PRECIOUS CHIKWENDU

My name is Mrs. Regina Fani-Kayode and I am the first wife of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode. We were married in 1997 and we are still married up until today.

Precious Chikwendu, a strange woman that he took under his roof, married under law and custom and lived with for seven years has written things about my husband which are not only untrue but also downright defamatory and scandalous and I will respond to her with the following as a first salvo.

Precious, you are just a sick woman and a big liar. I know you collected over half a million USD dollars from Femi within the first few months of meeting him for a fake investment. We have witnesses to prove it and remember that you even asked me to thank him for it. I also know he set you up in one business or the other four times in 7 years and got you offices etc. but you squandered it all.

When you came to my husband and took over my home you and your family were like hungry refugees. You had nothing but rubber slippers and you were desperate for help.

My husband sent three of your siblings to tye hest schools for seven years and took care of their every need yet you now slander him and insult him not minding the effect it will have on your own children. That in itself proves that you are insane.

You say he has mental issues meanwhile you were the one that was locked up in a mental hospital for one month after trying to kill him and his children. You stated in the home of a man with mental problems fir six years and allowed your mother, Aunty, two brothers and sisters to stay there too?

Who are you trying to fool? You are nothing but a wretched ingrate and, like Madame Kemi Olunloyo said, a pathological liar. And God will punish you and all your siblings for your ingratitude and lies.

You knew he was still married to me because you and I spoke countless times on the phone and you even stayed in my room and wore my clothes .

You had nothing when he took you in, you are so ungrateful. 6 of your relatives lived in my house for 6 yrs and they were all depending on Femi for food , upkeep, medical bills and school fees. Even your sister’s wedding was paid for by him .

But that didn’t stop you from plotting with your gang to kill him. You admitted to me about being naked in the hotel room with a man on the night FFK caught you.

I know the huge amounts of money he spent on you and your family and I’m sure you can’t deny that, that’s why his friends tagged you as a gold digger.

Your inability to love your children which you attributed to a medical condition was well tolerated by FFK and twelve nannies and nurses were working round the clock to keep you from harming them but you still got to beat up Aragon badly and bleached their skins till they broke out in sores.

You are a mother from hell and a horrible woman. In one of your dramatic fits, you pulled knifes to stab Femi and the children and police were called in stop you.

FFK never laid hands on you, even on the day he caught you in the hotel room with your lover. Is that the act of a violent man ?

All his male friends you have been offering your body to have already confessed so please stop trying to blackmail them. Stop working for those criminals who are just using your body to rip off rich men.

There is so much more to expose about your wickedness but I really don’t have time for your drama this year.

I am the reason Femi tolerated your nonsense for so long but enough is enough, I will not allow you to kill him because of your greed. He’s too busy to answer your stupid tantrums and fantastic lies, your media rants lack facts and the powerful truth will always prevail.

Your constant threats to kill the children is why Femi is afraid to leave them with you, you can’t even find the time to call them till now.

You think raining insults daily on their nannies is the best way to encourage them, instead of talking to your babies. And why were you stealing half their salaries when you had your own allowance ? All the evidence will be presented in court soon.

    (Mrs. Regina Fani-Kayode, 13th March 2021)

  • Millions will die if anything should happen to Sunday Igboho – Fani-Kayode

Millions will die if anything should happen to Sunday Igboho – Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has warned that nothing must happen to Chief Sunday Adeyemo, who is popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Fani-Kayode said Nigeria will break and that millions will die if anything should happen to Igboho, whom he described as a noble and courageous son of Oduduwa.

The former aviation minister alleged that there appears to be a well-orchestrated plan and dastardly plot by identifiable forces and individuals to eliminate Igboho.

Fani-Kayode further alleged that the attempt to abduct Igboho like a common criminal a few days ago by security forces is just one pointer to plans to eliminate him.

    Read Fani-Kayode below:

I will say this once for all to hear. Chief Sunday Adeyemo (AKA Sunday Igboho) is by far the most popular and powerful man in South Western Nigeria today. He has inspired millions and restored the honor and self-respect of the Yoruba nation.

He has also proved to the doubting Thomas’ that the sons of Oduduwa are not cowards. His views are simple and clear and he is entitled to them.

He does not believe in Nigeria but in Oduduwa Republic and that is his right. We may not all agree with those views but we will defend his right to hold them.

We may not all accept his methods but, as long as he operates within the law, we have no right to criminalise, demonise, undermine or stop him.

He is not a terrorist,a criminal or a murderer. He is a law-abiding Nigerian citizen & businessman who pays his taxes, defends his people and stands up against dangerous murderers and killers that have come from outside our territory to kill our people.

He is not an activist but a freedom fighter, a hero and a liberator of the oppressed who opposes tyranny and the mass murder, ethnic cleansing & enslavement of his people.

Unfortunately there appears to be a well-orchestrated plan & dastardly plot by some identifiable forces & individuals to eliminate him.

The attempt to abduct him like a common criminal in the middle of the road whilst he was on his way to a meeting with our reverred father Papa Ayo Adebanjo a few days ago by security forces is just one pointer, amongst others, to this.

They want to silence him at all costs because of what he has been doing, what he believes in & what he stands for.

This must not be allowed to happen. It must not see the light of day. Those behind it must perish the thought because if it does there will be dire, far-reaching & uncontrollable consequences for our entire nation.

If it does there will be a massive & brutal retaliation and Nigeria will be broken. If it does the quest for Oduduwa Republic will no longer be a peaceful, lawful and constitutional one but it will become a violent and brutal freedom struggle which will lead to an armed struggle and civil war in which millions will die.

If he is killed those behind him will stop talking & writing & instead they will start targetting the enemy and fighting. No-one will be safe and no-one will escape it.

This is not what I wish for but it is what I see and I pray it never comes to pass. Nevertheless I see and sense it. I perceive it strongly and it scares and worries me.

Igboho is unlike any other hero in Yoruba history. He is special and he is the beloved of the Lord. What he is doing is what God sent him into the world to do. He was carefully crafted and prepared for it.

Nothing must happen to this great, noble and courageous son of Oduduwa who has captured the hearts and minds of over 60 million Yoruba people from all over the world. He must not be killed.

Let me end with the following. Chief Sunday Adeyemo reminds me of Sir William Wallace (1230-1305) the great Scottish leader & warrior who led an armed rebellion against English rule & who inspired the successful quest for Scottish independence. Even though he fought & defeated the mighty English army.

  • Year in review: TheNewsGuru’s list of 20 defining moments of 2020

Year in review: TheNewsGuru’s list of 20 defining moments of 2020

The year 2020 threw everything in its arsenal at the world but humanity stood strong. The year was dramatic as everything that ordinarily should happen in 10 years happened in the year.

From politics in Nigeria to the U.S. presidential election, to the death of notable personalities, especially due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the world actually saw the worse that could happen in a decade.

In this year in review list, TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) brings you the 20 defining moments of the year 2020.

    COVID-19

First off on the list is the COVID-19 that took the world by storm. COVID-19 came to redefine the way humans live and interact. COVID-19 was first reported in China, but it has now spread throughout the world.

It was first reported in Nigeria in February and since then it has killed notable personalities in the country, including the former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari.

On 9 March, President Buhari established a Presidential Task Force for the control of the virus in the country. At a point, the federal government declared total lockdown, announcing palliatives for Nigerians. Where palliatives never got to some Nigerians, the food items were locked down in warehouses in some States.

Although several vaccines have been invented, the COVID-19 is still very much around with a new variant as nations have started announcing new lockdown measures.

Senator Abaribe’s call for Buhari’s resignation

On January 29, the Nigerian Senate debated the security situation in the country with Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over the failure of his government to tackle the security challenges confronting the country.

It was after Senator Abdullahi Yahaya raised a motion on an urgent need to restructure, review and reorganize the current security architecture to address ‪the nation’s security challenges that all hell broke loose on the floor of the Senate and the debate ensued.

“The hard work that was supposed to be done in Nigeria is not done. We will ask this government to resign because it can no longer do anything in the country.”- Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

However, the security challenges of the country persist even as recently some over 400 schoolboys were abducted in Katsina State while Buhari was vacationing in the State.

    Fani-Kayode’s moment of madness

Nigerians will never forget in a hurry Femi Fani-Kayode’s moment of madness when he verbally assaulted a Daily Trust correspondent, Eyo Charles at a press conference over a question.

The former Aviation Minister held a press conference in Cross River State at the end of his tour of States in the South-South region controlled by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Fani-Kayode was confronted about who bankrolled the trips he had across Nigeria but instead of providing an answer, he lost his cool and called the journalist stupid.

Fani-Kayode literally rained brimstone, fire and lightning on the journalist, with the journalist coming out to say after the incident a “security aide” to the former minister walked up to him and began interrogating him.

The journalist said he had to hurriedly leave the hotel premises where the press conference held for safety, and that the former minister called his editor to demand for his sack.

Meanwhile, Fani-Kayode later said he met with some advisors over the rancour, and following which, he withdrew the word “stupid” which he used in his encounter with the journalist.

The former Minister hoped that withdrawing the word will assuage the pain and anger of anyone that was hurt or offended by the incident.

He later came out to say he was disappointed with himself and that what he did was undefendable.

    U.S. 2020 presidential election

The U.S. 2020 presidential election is the most controversial in the history of the United States. It was the 59th quadrennial presidential election of the country, held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

The Democratic ticket of former vice president Joe Biden and incumbent U.S. senator from California Kamala Harris defeated the Republican ticket of incumbent president Donald Trump and vice president Mike Pence.

Trump became the first U.S. president since George H. W. Bush in 1992 and the eleventh incumbent in the country’s history to lose a bid for a second term, and Biden won the largest share of the popular vote against an incumbent since 1932.

The election saw the highest voter turnout since 1900, with each of the two main tickets receiving more than 74 million votes, surpassing Barack Obama’s record of 69.5 million votes from 2008. Biden received more than 81 million votes, the most votes ever cast for a candidate in a U.S. presidential election.

Before, during, and after Election Day, Trump and numerous Republicans attempted to overturn the results, alleging widespread voter fraud. However, Attorney General William Barr and officials in each of the 50 states found no evidence of widespread fraud or irregularities in the election.

Federal agencies overseeing election security said it was the most secure in American history.

    Brexit

Brexit, a portmanteau of Britain and exit, is the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) and the European Atomic Energy Community on 31 January 2020.

To date, the UK is the first and only country formally to leave the EU, after 47 years of membership within the bloc, after having first joined its predecessor, the European Communities (EC), on 1 January 1973.

Following a UK-wide referendum in June 2016, in which 52% voted in favour of leaving the EU and 48% voted to remain a member, Prime Minister David Cameron resigned.

On 29 March 2017, the new British Government led by Theresa May formally notified the EU of the country’s intention to withdraw, beginning the Brexit process.

The withdrawal was originally scheduled for 29 March 2019. It was delayed by deadlock in the British Parliament after the June 2017 general election, which resulted in a hung parliament in which the Conservatives lost their majority but remained the largest party. This deadlock led to three extensions of the Article 50 process.

The deadlock was resolved after a subsequent general election was held in December 2019. In that election, Conservatives who campaigned in support of a revised withdrawal agreement led by Boris Johnson won an overall majority of 80 seats.

After the December 2019 election, the British Parliament finally ratified the withdrawal agreement. The UK left the EU at 11 p.m. GMT on 31 January 2020. This began a transition period that is set to end on 31 December 2020.

    ASUU strike

    https://twitter.com/ASUUNGR/status/1341663748558376963?s=19

In 2020, in the latest of its industrial action, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) kept Nigerian students at home for over 9 months.

ASUU embarked on the industrial action on the 23rd of March 2020 owing to disagreements with the Federal Government, demanding for more funding for public universities and renegotiation of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement.

Other demands of the union are outstanding earned academic allowances, the proliferation of universities by state governments and the constitution of visitation panels to federal universities.

ASUU also opposed the use of Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) in settling workers salaries.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, while reporting on the offers made by the government to ASUU, said the government had earlier brought an aggregate offer of N50 billion to ASUU, N20 billion for revitalisation and N30 billion for earned allowances.

Ngige said in order to show good faith that the government is still with the lecturers on the issue of funding, a new proposal was made to increase the revitalisation fund from N20 billion to N25 billion and for the earned allowances to be raised to N40 billion immediate payment, making a total of N65 billion for revitalisation.

However, a report has it that ASUU rejected the amount at their meeting with the government side.

The union demanded N110 billion, which is 50 percent of a tranche of N220 billion it had earlier demanded but the federal government rejected, citing paucity of funds.

The disagreement resulted in another offer by the federal government team to raise the revitalisation fund to N40 billion while the earned allowances for unions remain N30 billion.

The federal government also gave assurances that it would address the pending issues of constituting visitation panels for federal universities and raising a new renegotiation team to begin talks with ASUU on the 2009 agreement.

It was based on the new proposal by the federal government that ASUU agreed to go back to brief its organs and to revert to the government on whether or not it has accepted the terms to call off the strike.

ASUU eventually called off the strike after the FG caved in to its demands with the only outstanding issue being the disagreement over the payment platform.

Meanwhile, ASUU it will go on strike without notice if the FG should to keep faith with the negotiations.

    #EndSARS movement

#EndSARS is a decentralised social movement, and series of mass protests against police brutality in Nigeria. The slogan calls for the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a notorious unit of the Nigerian Police with a long record of abuses.

The protests which takes its name from the slogan started in 2017 as a Twitter campaign using the hashtag #ENDSARS to demand the disbanding of the unit by the Nigerian government.

After experiencing a revitalisation in October 2020 following more revelations of the abuses of the unit, mass demonstrations occurred throughout the major cities of Nigeria, accompanied by vociferous outrage on social media platforms.

On the night of 20 October 2020, at about 6:50 p.m, members of the Nigerian Army opened fire at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos State. There are claims that some protesters were killed during the shooting.

About 28 million tweets bearing #EndSARS have been accumulated on Twitter alone. Solidarity protests and demonstrations by Nigerians in diaspora and sympathizers occurred in many major cities of the world.

The protest is notable for its patronage by a demographic that is made of entirely young Nigerians. The movement has since expanded to include demands for good and accountable governance.

Off mic vs soro soke generation

Soro soke (speak louder), represents agency activation of voice to know the unknown, clarify a confused state and challenge negligence, right denial and injustice. On the flip side is ‘off-the-mic’, a tactical strategy to conceal the truth, ignore a genuine concern, silent opposition, frame constructive criticism as ‘corruption is fighting back’ and tyrannise being accountable.

It was Minister of Niger Delta Godswill Akpabio while appearing before a National Assembly panel investigating alleged fleecing of billions of naira in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) who was instructed to ‘off-the-mic’ to prevent further disclosures or clarifications on the beneficiaries of NDDC contracts. Since then, ‘off-the-mic’ gained ascendancy in national discourse.

On the other hand, soro soke came up with the #EndSARS movement. (a behavioural disposition which oppresses, extorts, brutalises, denies rights, annihilates, victimises and ignores the victimisation of the vulnerable) and every ‘Sarsious’ character within and across institutions in Nigeria.

    Laycon happened

In 2020, Laycon happened, winning the Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) reality TV show, coasting home with the grand prize of N85 million.

Laycon entered the show as the number nineteenth contestant on 19 July 2020, donning a jacket that attracted trolls on social media.

However, he soon established himself as a fan favorite. He became the first housemate of the season to be verified on Instagram on 22 July 2020. He broke record, becoming the first housemate in the show’s history to reach 1 million followers on Instagram while still in the house on 19 September 2020.

Born Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe on 8 November 1993 Laycon is a rapper, singer and songwriter. He is currently the youth ambassador of Ogun State, Nigeria since 6 October 2020.

During the finale of the show on 27 September 2020, he was declared the winner scoring a record 60% of the total votes cast and went home with the ₦85 million grand prize.

    Entanglement

Jada Pinkett Smith made the word entanglement famous in 2020. Jada Pinkett Smith is wife of Will Smith.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith came together for a Red Table Talk on July 10, but the table was turned when he interviewed his wife about recent relationship rumors with singer August Alsina.

She cleared the air and described her previous relationship with the 27-year-old artist as an “entanglement.”

    Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bean Bryant’s death pained many. Bryant was an American professional basketball player. A shooting guard, he spent his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association.

Bryant died at age 41, along with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna and seven others, in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.

    Australian bushfires

Starting from September 2019, fires heavily impacted various parts of Australia. With nearly 80 percent of Australians affected either directly or indirectly, the 2019–20 Australian bushfire season became colloquially known as Black Summer.

Throughout the summer, hundreds of fires burnt, mainly in the southeast of the country. The major fires peaked during December–January.

As of 9 March 2020, the fires burnt an estimated 18.6 million hectares, destroyed over 5,900 buildings, including 2,779 homes and killed at least 34 people.

Nearly three billion terrestrial vertebrates alone – the vast majority being reptiles – were affected and some endangered species were believed to be driven to extinction.

At its peak, air quality dropped to hazardous levels in all southern and eastern states. By 7 January 2020, the smoke had moved approximately 11,000 kilometres across the South Pacific Ocean to Chile and Argentina.

Economists estimated that the Australian bushfires may cost over A$103 billion in property damage and economic losses, making the bushfires Australia’s costliest natural disaster to date.

    Deadly volcanic eruptions

There were at least 67 confirmed volcanic eruptions at some point during 2020 from 63 different volcanoes. 22 of those were new eruptions that started during the year. Deadly volcanic eruptions majorly affected New Zealand and the Philippines in 2020.

Shooting down of Ukrainian airlines plane

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was shot down shortly after takeoff from the Iranian capital, Tehran, killing all 176 people on board.

For several days, no one took responsibility, but signs pointed toward it being struck by a missile. Eventually, Iran admitted it had targeted the plane after mistakenly believing it was a U.S. missile.

    Killing of Qasem Soleimani

Qasem Soleimani was an Iranian major general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and, from 1998 until his death in 2020, commander of its Quds Force, a division primarily responsible for extraterritorial military and clandestine operations. In his later years, he was considered by some to be the second most powerful person in Iran.

Soleimani was assassinated in a targeted U.S. drone strike on 3 January 2020 in Baghdad, which was approved by U.S. President Donald Trump.

President Trump authorized the killing of Soleimani in June 2019 on the condition that he had been involved in the killing of many Americans, a decision backed by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. In making the 2020 strike, the Pentagon focused on Soleimani’s past actions and on deterring future such actions.

The strike that killed Soleimani followed attacks on the American embassy in Baghdad by supporters of an Iran-backed Iraqi Shia militia and the shooting down of the Ukrainian airlines plane in Iran’s capital.

Fears of World War IV heightened following the killing of Soleimani but the fears soon doused down as the U.S., Iran and Iraq piped low.

    Drought

Drought is a prolonged dry period in the natural climate cycle that can occur anywhere in the world. It is a slow-onset disaster characterized by the lack of precipitation, resulting in a water shortage. Drought can have a serious impact on health, agriculture, economies, energy and the environment. An estimated 55 million people globally are affected by droughts every year but in 2020, droughts took several parts of the world by storm. Parts of the U.S., Southeast Asia and Australia were badly affected.

    Buhari’s fight against corruption

President Buhari came into power with the promise to fight corruption. In the year, Ibrahim Magu, the former acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was made to face a presidential probe panel.

Magu eventually became the storied hunter that was hunted. He was subsequently dropped from his position after he was unable to satisfy the probe panel.

Magu was hunted down on Monday, July 6, 2020, with arrest or invitation, on a major road in Abuja, as he left his office, and heading to the Police Headquarters, with his security outfit.

His car was flagged off the road by a Chief Superintendent of Police, who respectfully told the anti-corruption Czar that his attention was needed at the Presidential Villa to meet with some high crops of investigators.

The Chief Superintendent did not come alone. He came for the arrest [sorry – invitation] with his own security outfit; all fully armed with enough automatic weapons to counter any act of defiance.

Magu, however, as it was reported, humbly followed the junior Supol without much ado. The least is yet to be heard of the probe panel and Magu.

Meanwhile, Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu, who is the former Governor of Abia State, was incarcerated at the Kuje Correctional Centre for over six months.

The former Abia State Governor, who is a member of the APC, was convicted and sentenced for N7.1bn fraud last December, but had their case reversed by the Supreme Court in May 2020.

The Supreme Court declared Uzor-Kalu’s conviction void, saying the Federal High Court in Lagos acted without jurisdiction when it convicted Kalu.

According to the panel, the trial Justice Mohammed Liman was no longer a judge of the Federal High Court as at the time he sat and delivered the judgement that convicted Uzor-Kalu to 12 years in prison.

The Supreme Court averred that Justice Liman, having been elevated to the Court of Appeal before then lacked the powers to return to sit as a High Court Judge.

However, the EFCC has vowed to file new proceedings against the former Governor, who is now the Chief Whip of the Senate.

Senator Ali Ndume spent some nights at the Kuje correctional centre as well in 2020 after standing in as surety for Abdulrasheed Maina.

Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, is under trial on a 12-count charge of fraud and money laundering involving about N2 billion.

The trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, had ordered the defendant, Maina to provide a serving senator as a surety for the bail granted to him.

Justice Abang had, following Maina’s repeated requests, varied the bail conditions twice, reducing the bail sum from the original N1bn to N500m with only one surety as opposed, two originally requested by the court.

The only surety who must be a serving senator must be ready to accompany the defendant to court and sign the court’s register of attendance for every hearing session, the judge had ordered.

Ndume who represents Borno South Senatorial District where Maina hails from later agreed to serve as the defendant’s surety.

However, Maina failed to answer his case and absconded to Niger Republic, where he was arrested and repatriated to Nigeria to face justice.

Obaseki joined PDP, Umahi left APC

Nigerians witnessed a lot of political drama in the year 2020. Notable is Godwin Obaseki leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to win the State’s governorship election. APC favoured Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who was previously in the PDP over Obaseki. The Pastor eventually became the flagbearer of the APC but was rejected by the people of Edo State in the long run. Obaseki while in APC for his first term in office had emerged victorious over Ize-Iyamu while he was the flagbearer of the PDP. How do one explain the dramatic turn of events better.

Also notable in 2020 is Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State defecting from the PDP to the APC. An Umahi, who had said nothing would ever make him to join the APC.

A good number of Nigerian politicians also jumped boats in the course of the year.

    Something happened to Lyon

In February 2020, David Lyon was fired by the Supreme Court after winning the November 16th, 2019 Bayelsa State governorship election.

Lyon won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Bayelsa and soon after won the guber election but on the eve of his inauguration, when he was setting the stage and rehearsing how to take the oath of office, he was ousted.

The stage he set was used to inaugurate Douye Diri as the Governor of Bayelsa State.

The Supreme Court voided Lyon’s victory on the grounds that his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo presented false personal information to contest the governorship election.

    Something indeed happened to Lyon.

    5G-COVID-19 conspiracy theory

5G is the newest, fastest type of cellular network, which began deploying globally in 2019. As is usually the case with new technologies, it has attracted its fair share of conspiracy theories.

The COVID-19 pandemic provided a very fertile ground for 5G conspiracy theory to thrive in 2020. Dangerous conspiracy theories soon went round, and unfortunately, many believed.

The pandemic sparked a wave of more insidious conspiracy theories, such as the false claim that 5G mobile networks spread and worsen the Coronavirus.

Some members of a frightened public, desperate for some sense of order, believed this deeply implausible lie, including Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

This led to dozens of instances of arsonists setting fire to cell towers across Europe.

Many still believe COVID-19 vaccination is precursor to the mark of 666.

    Bonus: Leap year

Everything was different about 2020, including having an extra day. 29th of February comes only every four years. COVID-19 took the best of the world not to fully appreciate the peculiarity of the day, and those born on the day.

Those born on #LeapDay are forced to celebrate their birthdays once every 4 years or will have to take their birthdays one day backward or one day forward.

The 24 hours tacked into every fourth year ensures our calendar stays in line with the Earth’s movement around the Sun.

With COVID-19, it was a leap year indeed!

I caught my wife in bed with a married man – Fani-Kayode

Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode has said he caught his estranged wife, Precious Chikwendu in bed with a married man.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain made the allegation in a series of tweets on Saturday in reaction to a video showing him supposedly abusing the woman.

Fani Kayode noted that his estranged wife recorded the clip as propaganda against him, the worried politician said: “There was NO physical abuse.

“I simply took the phone from her to stop her from recording me after catching her in bed with a married man days earlier.”

Divorce: God has freed me from captivity, FFK’s ex-wife speaks

Precious Chikwendu, estranged wife of politician and lawyer, Femi Fani-Kayode has given a cryptic response to news about her failed marriage.

On her Instagram page on Thursday, the former Miss United Nations quoted Psalm 126 Verse1 -3 of the Bible:

When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

From the post, it was obvious she expressed joy that she was free from some bondage of sorts.

=News of the marriage breakup came into the public space on Thursday.

Reports said Precious quit the relationship over domestic violence.

Her family members told Premium Times that she quit over some lingering illness.

This does not, appear to make sense, as that should bring them together, more as a couple.

Fani-Kayode has denied he abused Precious and has even asked his lawyer to demand a retraction from a blogger, who broke the story of the separation.

Precious who is 31, married Fani-Kayode in 2014. The marriage is blessed with four children, including a set of triplets.

Known on Instagram as ‘Snowhiteey’, Precious also runs a Snowhite Pure Heart Foundation.

  • Fire & Fury As The FFK and Daily Trust Face-off Degenerate, By Magnus onyibe

Fire & Fury As The FFK and Daily Trust Face-off Degenerate, By Magnus onyibe

    By Magnus onyibe

Femi Fani-Kayode, FFK, former aviation minister and son of one time deputy premier of western region , Remilekun Fani-Kayode ( a.k.a Fani-Power) has punched back at Daily Trust newspaper, whose reporter was tongue lashed after he asked a question that was considered to be impetuous by Fani-Kayode . It may be recalled that at a press conference called by the former aviation minister and political activist while on a tour of the various states of nation, he was asked by a Daily Trust newspaper reporter , Eyo Charles “who is bankrolling the trips ?”.
Offended by the question , Fani-Kayode went on the offensive by unleashing what can be best described as verbal tsunami on the reporter, who given the force of the tirade was manifestly cowed and therefore apologetic to his attacker.
With the dramatic exchange between what seemed like a Colossus and a Lilliputian captured on tape and released into the social media , fire and fury on the matter has been let Ioose by Nigerians who have been sharply divided , with a lot of them unbraiding Fani-Kayode for what he himself referred to as his ‘short fuse’ and apologized.
Perhaps feeling emboldened by the public support for the reporter who was deemed to be the victim, in a vicious counter attack , Daily Trust newspaper columnist lliyasu Gadu , via an article titled “ FFK The Drug Addled Thug In Designer Wears”, Fani-Kayode was viciously lampooned and savaged.
Despite the fact that FFK has apologized to Eyo Charles, the blows were below the belt , as the author of the opinion piece went very personal by not only making vile comments on the presumed past and present lifestyle of FFK , he also drew the late Remilekun Fani-Kayode, father of FFK into the fray by alleging that if the late deputy premier of Western region in the first republic had not been saved by Yakubu Gowon, who ordered then Lt. Paul Tarfa to take the former western region premier out of harm’s way , he might have been snatched by the jaws of death orchestrated by mutineers.
    The author of the highly
pungent piece then concluded that , had the tragedy of death for his dad not been foiled in 1966 by Gowon who had also been allegedly assailed by FFK , he might not have had the privilege of attending the English boarding school exclusive to the the creme-de-la-creme of British society, Harrow and the Ivy League institutions , university of London and Cambridge University where he obtained his first and masters degrees in law and gained a fantastic command of the English language that he leveraged to mesmerize the reporter.
Consequent upon the apparent character assassination on FFK by Daily Trust newspaper, he has put the media house on notice about his intention to sue it to court for defamation of character, libel etc.
Clearly , the attack and counter attacks between both parties and their supporters online and in real life have become cyclical.
And following the Daily Trust newspaper counter attack that is considered to be an overkill by not a few commentators, opinion seem to be swinging like a pendulum to the side of FFK?
More so because of the respect that Africans have for the dead and therefore has perhaps made them detest the mean attack on the late Remilekun Fani-Kayode who was and remains a hero to some Yorubas.
The attack and reprisal which currently appear like a ding dong affair, reminds me of the attacks and counter attacks by the warring ethnic and religious groups in southern kaduna state that had turned the area into a river or valley of death, but of which thankfully, the warring parties appear to be on the path to peace, if the recent peace pact by some of the warring parties is any thing to go by. It needs not be repeated here that the world is fast changing from being theatre of wars to a place of peace and the icey relationship between Arabs and Christians in the Middle East is also thawing with the lsraeli and United Arab Emirates, UAE resuming cooperation as symbolized by the recent commencement of commercial flights between both countries.
Hopefully, the spat between FFK and Daily Trust newspaper will not degenerate into an ethnic fight with the lagos (Afenifere) media lining up behind FFK and the northern media (Arewa) queuing up behind Daily Trust. That has unfortunately, recently been the case in the Nigerian Bar Association-the umbrella body of lawyers in Nigeria, now threatened by the specter of a split up along ethnic and regional divides.
Following the invitation and later un-invitation of governor, Nasir El-Rufai of kaduna state as one of the headline speakers at its recently held annual conference, the demon of division of the NBA between the south and north is rearing its ugly head.
lt is no longer a secret that in protest against the withdrawal of the invitation earlier extended to the governor which was based on powerful petitions against the initiative, some aggrieved northern lawyers are in the process of setting up a northern version of the NBA, tagged NNBA to serve as a counter balance to the existing NBA which is apparently now being deemed by the rebelling northern lawyers to have southern bias.
With all these developments which are dividing rather than uniting the north and south , the Nigerian union clearly is teetering and on the brinks, if all these palpable tensions and rhetorics are not toned down.
Not long ago, the Arewa youths issued the lgbos living and plying their trade in the north , a quit notice ostensibly because they could no longer tolerate the lgbo agitation for secession being driven by IPOB and MASSOB.
But for the intervention of some northern elders , most right thinking and well meaning Nigerians were holding their breathe in trepidation of the possible mayhem that might have ensued.
Now, there are some who may consider my reference to the aforementioned fault lines as resurrecting skeletons, and fanning or stoking the embers of division in our country. And I would argue that, to the contrary, such an assumption is further from being the intention, or likely to be the outcome of this intervention.
The truth is that if we don’t talk about these obvious symptoms of mutual ethnic distrust , they would fester like an untreated sore that could degenerate into gangrene.
We are all familiar with what happens when we keep sweeping dirt under the carpet.
After some time , a mound would develop that could cause us as the owners or occupants of the house to trip on it and fall. That’s what could happen if we continue to pretend by not addressing existential challenges that keep popping up to threaten our unity as a nation.
Which is why l’m of the belief that the earlier we have these difficult and inconvenient conversations, albeit in responsible and respectful manner, the better.
For instance, can a marriage counselor worth his salt advise a married couple sleeping on same bed with their backs turned against each other not to communicate with one another via candid convivial conversations to resolve their differences in order to restore their conjugal relationship?
That’s what in my judgement, the discouragement of public discussion of issues bordering members of the Nigerian union boils down to.
It also brings to the fore the so called Hate Crime bill being proposed by government.
How can a multiple ethnic groups country like Nigeria imagine such a law? With a gaging law like that , how can the people ventilate their feelings and grievances with a view to resolving them? There are enough laws in our statutes book dealing with defamation, character assassination and libel matters. If or when any one , tribe or ethnic group feels defamed or libeled by another, appropriate legal actions should be taken to seek redress just as FFK is putting Daily Trust newspaper on notice that he would sue.
Good enough , the interpretative society (judiciary) knows what to do to sanction guilty offenders such that it would deter others from treading same path.
Now, l have heard some people argue that the proposed Hate Crime law is targeted at social media users where the authors of evil and wicked views can be incognito. Is Facebook , Twitter and other social media service providers not taking down hate speeches and falsehoods? If they can sanction Donald Trump, the 45th President of the USA , by scrubbing out his posts considered to be false, misleading and capable of causing socio-cultural conflicts , l see no reason why same policy can’t apply to Nigeria and Nigerians. Rather than silence Nigerians through the obnoxious Hate Bill the government of Nigeria just needs to tap into the global best practice initiatives being taken in the advanced societies of the USA and Western Europe, where stringent efforts are being made to regulate the internet and the associated social media platforms by engaging with the service providers to self censor.
Additionally, the UN can on behalf of its members work with the social media service providers to create a criteria or parameter to determine what constitutes hate speech universally and use same to sanitize the highly volatile and toxic social media space.
In the light of the above , it is a no brainer to identify the Hate Bill being contemplated in Nigeria as a lazy approach to public policy making, which exposes the lack of rigorous and critical thinking by our leaders in both the executive and legislative arms of government before formulating policies.
In conclusion, if the ethnic activism now threatens to permeate and dismember or divide professional bodies along ethnic and regional lines is not nipped in the bud, before you know it, the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ , Guild of Editors, Nigerian Medical Association,NMA, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN and Nigerian
Union of Teachers etc would be considering splitting up whenever they hold conferences whereby the outcome is unacceptable to some members from any side of the divide.
In a country and environment where being copycats don’t constitute any moral burden to most of us , the concern or fear that l’m expressing is not fringe and may not be as quaint as most of us would or could assume. That’s simply because there is nothing that’s impossible as corroborated by the fact that China and other medium powers across the world have been contemplating without success on how to establish countervailing institutions to the Bretton wood institutions of the United Nations -such as the World bank , IMF, WTO, WHO , UNESCO etc set up by Europe and the USA after the world war ll with which they play the rest of the world, like a puppeteer.
Since, l’m not an elder statesman with real grey hair induced by old age , and l’m not even qualified to wear the wig that judges adorn in the temple of justice in order to look like sages , l’m aware that the present feuding parties would not be obliged to defer to me, so it is not my goal in this essay to pass judgement, hence l remain a neutral party.
Arising from the above , my candid advise to the antagonists and protagonists as well as members of other professional organizations, is that they should not allow themselves to be influenced by the bad manners of some politicians who can be chameleonic by being in one party during the day and become part of another during the night. They are also admonished not to behave like some politicians who are constantly cross carpeting from one party to the other before the drop of a hat; and forming and disbanding political parties, (in some cases along ethnic and regional lines), as evidenced by how quickly the nPDP was formed from PDP and dissolved in the run up to 2015 general elections.
It is the nature of politics to be nebulous, so playing the game of musical chairs comes with the territory for politicians and that should not be the case for professionals.
In the light of the gathering storm signifying impending bad weather , our leaders and elders can’t continue to sit on the fence which would be tantamount to Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned.
So , what l’m advocating in this piece is that it’s time that our leaders and elders stepped up to the plate to de-escalate both the FFK versus Daily Trust newspaper spat which is reflective of a Cold War being fought by proxy and also quash the evolving internecine war in the NBA to prevent the body of ‘learned gentlemen and ladies’ from being consumed by the present toxic contents gnawing at the fabrics of the noble profession.

Magnus onyibe, an entrepreneur, a public policy analyst , development strategist , an author and alumnus of Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy , Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA as well as former commissioner in delta state govt, sent this piece from Lagos.
