    Confusion in death of Papa Ajasco put to rest

    Veteran Nollywood actor, Femi Ogunrombi, who was a stand-in character for Papa Ajasco in the popular 1996 Sitcom has passed on.

    Dr Shaibu Husseini, a theatre practitioner, journalist and lecturer announced the death of the veteran, on his Twitter page on Sunday.

    “I have just been reliably informed that the ethnomusicologist, former Music Instructor with @NATIONALTROUPE and one time stand in for the ‘Papa Ajasco’ character on the popular @waleadenugaprod Comic Series ‘Papa Ajasco’ Mr. Femi Ogunrombi is DEAD,” he tweeted.

    Mr Mayowa Adenekan, a Digital Journalist and Talent Manager while also sharing the news on the social media said that the late actor was a the stand-in actor when the first Papa Ajasco character pulled out.

    “Veteran actor Femi Ogunrombi AKA Papa Ajasco is dead. I see a lot of people using images of the first papa Ajasco Mr Abiodun Ayoyinka, but the one that died is Mr Femi Ogunrombi, the one that took over the character when Mr Abiodun Ayoyinka pulled out of the show. May his soul RIP,” he said.

    In 2006, Ogunrombi joined the popular TV comedy programme as Papa Ajasco. Papa Ajasco and Company was created by Wale Adenuga Productions. Ogunrombi at the same time became the Coordinator of Studies for Adenuga’s PEFTI film Institute.

    The death of Femi Ogunrombi, a one-time character of Papa Ajasco in the popular Papa Ajasco comedy series, was announced on Sunday.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Dr Husseini Shaibu disclosed the death of Ogunrombi in a tweet on his official Twitter handle.

    Femi Ogunrombi studied music and drama at Obafemi Awolowo University in the early eighties.

    A multi-instrumentalist and music teacher, Ogunrombi was a composer, an actor, producer and director of music/film.

    While at OAU, he founded and conducted a Choral group called The Ayoro Voices. This group was the cultural image of the University between 1980 and 1983 respectively.

    In 1994, Ogunrombi joined the National Troupe of Nigeria as Music Instructor under the Ministry of Information and Culture.

    By 1998, he rose to the position of Director of Music. He inaugurated and conducted the National Choir.

    In 1998, he left the government to pursue his own music business. His departure from the government service propelled him to become Art Consultant to different State governments around the country.

    He consulted for the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture 1999 to 2002, the Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture, 2014 and the Cross River State Council for Arts and Culture, etc.

    He was the Art Consultant for the National Troupe of Nigeria until his death.

    Meanwhile, in 2006, Ogunrombi joined the popular TV comedy program, Papa Ajasco and Company, created by Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), as Papa Ajasco.

    At the same time, he became the Coordinator of Studies for his PEFTI film Institute.

    TNG reports Ogunrombi took over the character of Papa Ajasco when Mr Abiodun Ayoyinka pulled out of the TV series.

    Ogunrombi’s preoccupation and passion were producing music, teaching and mentoring the young ones to live productive lives.

    PAPA AJASCO: Veteran Nollywood actor, Femi Ogunrombi is dead

    Legendary comic actor, Femi Ogunrombi, who is popular for his role in Wale Adenuga’s comedy series, “Papa Ajasco” is dead.

    This has been confirmed by a theatre practitioner, Shaibu Husseini.

    Although the details given by Husseini are quite sketchy, he, however, confirmed that the seasoned thespian breathed his last on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

    “I have just been reliably informed that the ethnomusicologist, former Music Instructor with the National Troupe of Nigeria and one-time stand in for the ‘Papa Ajasco’ character on the popular WAP Comic Series ‘Papa Ajasco’, Mr. Femi Ogunrombi is dead.

    “I am told that the actor, singer and trained nurse whom we fondly called ‘Uncle Ogurombo’ (not to his hearing though) passed on this evening,” he wrote on his social media pages.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Ogunrombi was the Director of Studies at the Pencil Film and Television Institute (PEFTI), Lagos. He has over three-decade experience as a musicologist.

    He studied at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife after his secondary school at Adventist Grammar School, Ede, Nigeria.
