ASUU strike: We are going to tackle the problem – Festus Keyamo

The spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Festus Keyamo has said the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) would be tackled.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Keyamo disclosed this on Monday during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, where he blamed the ongoing ASUU strike on the irresponsibility of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He stressed that the PDP signed agreements with ASUU they could not fulfill, leaving the current administration to inherit the agreements and start struggling to renegotiate them. He added that between 1999 and 2015 when the PDP handed over to the ruling APC, ASUU was on strike 12 times, amounting to 900 days.

“The ASUU thing you are talking about. What is the problem of ASUU now? It’s the 2009 agreement signed by PDP government. They signed agreements with ASUU they couldn’t fulfill. We had to inherit those agreements and now struggling to renegotiate those agreements.

“Imagine how irresponsible a government can be when they went into agreements with ASUU and signed conditions that they couldn’t fulfill and that is why ASUU is on strike so let us tell Nigerians that ASUU is not on strike because APC signed an agreement with them. It was the PDP that signed the agreement.

“We are not shifting blame; we are going to tackle the problem. Between 1999 and 2015 when they handed over to the APC, ASUU was on strike 12 times. I have the statistics amounting to 900 days,” Keyamo said.

2023: I will nurture Dino in his comedy business – Keyamo

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has ridiculed Senator Dino Melaye over his comment that he (Keyamo) is jobless and redundant.

Recall that Melaye while reacting to Keyamo’s comparison of Atiku and Obi, where he said Obi is better, said the Senior lawyer has monetized his conscience and vows to break him to pieces should he engage him in a debate.

He said, “Ask Nigerians today, what portfolio is Keyamo holding? Many will tell you that they don’t even know the ministry he is working in because he is redundant, inactive, and not visible.

“Because he is not known as Minister, he is mistaking his officer as a Minister of State for the office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. No Nigerian who is educated, and intellectually okay will abuse the office of the Vice President of Nigeria.

“What Keyamo attacked is not Atiku Abubakar but the office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the number two office in this country.

“Because he has monetized his conscience, that is why he will not understand that the office of Nigerian VP has some ministries, agencies under its direct supervision and oversight.

However, in his reaction, Keyamo who spoke on Arise TV noted that he dosen’t have time for comedians like Dino Melaye.

The lawyer also offered to nurture Melaye in his comedy business as soon as Bola Tinubu emerges the president of Nigeria.

” I have managed comedians and singers like Macaroni, Chidinma,Wizkid and the likes.

Dino shouldn’t worry i will nurture him to become a greater comedian” He said.

VIDEO: I’ll break you into pieces – Dino Melaye fires at Keyamo

Senator Dino Melaye has lambasted the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo over his recent outburst against the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Keyamo had in a TV interview on Friday attacked the former Vice President, condemning his presidential ambition, saying in the interview that Atiku has nothing to offer the country.

Keyamo further stated in the interview that the PDP candidate lacks the capacity to rule Nigeria as a president and that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi is far better than him [Atiku] in terms of capacity and experience.

Reacting, Dino who was angered by Keyamo’s assertions, said the Minister lacks the moral bearings to attack Atiku. Dino, a former PDP governorship aspirant in Kogi State and currently the spokesperson for Atiku’s 2023 presidential campaign, countered Keyamo, saying anyone who has served as Vice President is fit for the number one position.

In a video published on his social media handles, Dino challenged the minister to a debate where he vowed to breaking him (Keyamo) into pieces.

“That is why he will not know that in the absence of the president, the vice president is the acting president with executive power anytime the president is out of the country. So what he has done is that he has abused the office of Nigerian VP even as a lawyer who should understand the constitutionality of that office.

“Anyone who has been a VP is fit to be a president. Can Keyamo also say that Atiku has not succeeded internationally as a businessman?

“Just because you are acting under ‘sekpe’ or under the influence of marijuana, you just smoke your ganja and you think you can just open your mouth and talk? Because you are defending someone who takes drugs more than food today?

Keyamo doesn’t have sense – PDP’s Olayinka blast Minister

The Minister granted an interview on Channels Television asking parents to beg the striking lecturers to suspend the ongoing industrial action, stressing that the FG cannot borrow to pay ASUU.
Olayinka who wrote to ASUU as a parent, said the Minister does not deserve to be addressed as Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN saying Keyamo has no sense.
Olayinka’s letter followed claims by the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Festus Keyamo that the Federal Government lacks the fund to meet the demands of the academic union.

However, Olayinka who wrote to ASUU as a parent, said the Minister does not deserve to be addressed as Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN saying Keyamo has no sense.

He accused President Buhari of being negligent about the industrial action which has taken away a full semester.

He said the efforts of the striking lecturers in making the Nigerian university a global standard, are appreciated.

The PDP candidate expressed optimism that the next administration would do better.

The letter reads, “Dear ASUU, “I am on my bended knees this morning, pleading as a parent that this strike in our universities should end.

“My plea is premised on the confession of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (I won’t address him as a SAN because a SANship is about having sense), that the Buhari’s APC govt of 53 thieves does not have lost every sense of responsibility to end the strike.

“Therefore, it has now become the duty of Nigerians to beg ASUU to end the strike.

“Consequently, In the name of God, I am on my knees begging ASUU to call off the strike so that our children can return to school.

“This is not to say that I do not appreciate the demands of ASUU, but I am sure that when we have a govt in the country, the demands will be addressed.

“More so that the strike NO even KONAN those in this Buhari’s APC government because their children are either in universities abroad or private universities in Nigeria.

“Thank you as you consider this my plea and call of the strike”.

2023: Festus Keyamo rubbishes APC Northern Christian leaders

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo has rubbished moves by Northern Christian leaders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to find a path for themselves ahead of the 2023 general election.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Keyamo as saying he is not aware of an official stratification of APC Northern Christians or Muslims in the party, stressing that Northern Christians within the APC family will vote according to their individual conscience in the 2023 elections.

“I am not aware that the Northern Christians within the APC family met anywhere to appoint spokespersons on their behalf. They will vote according to their individual conscience. Nobody has the authority to speak on behalf of every adherent of a particular faith within a party

“Also & with the greatest respect, I am not aware that we have an official stratification of APC Northern Christians or Muslims in our great party. They are all APC members, simpliciter, and they registered as such into the party, not on the platforms of their different faiths,” Keyamo tweeted.

Recall that some aggrieved APC members in the Northern part of the country, including the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachir Lawal and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, under the auspices of APC Northern Christians have kicked against the party’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

They called on Christians in the North to speak with one voice against the Bola Tinubu-Kashim Shettima ticket, declaring that the choice of the ruling party will promote injustice and inequality, and run counterproductive to the collective vision of a united Nigeria.

  • Ekiti Elections: Keyamo speaks on APC vote buying allegation

Senior lawyer and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, festus Keyamo has lent his voice on the current allegation of vote buying levied against the ruling APC at the ongoing guber elections in Ekiti state.

In his reactions, Keyamo said vote-buying is not synonymous with the All Progressives Congress, (APC), alone, insinuating that it’s a widespread practice.

He lamented that the only way an election is deemed credible in the country  is when the ruling party loses an election.

It was gathered that an APC agent was reportedly arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for alleged vote-buying in Ekiti state.

The agent was taken into custody at Ola Oluwa Grammar School on Ilawe Road, Ado Ekiti.

Reacting via his twitter page  Keyamo said : “Incidences of vote-buying can’t be synonymous only with the ruling party, but the subtle message the other parties try to pass to the gullible is that only the ruling party engages in illegalities & that the only way an election can be deemed credible is if the ruling party loses.”

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo has congratulated newly nominated presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

This is even as Keyamo knocked former President Olusegun Obasanjo as he attributed the outcome of the APC presidential primary election to the leadership quality of incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The kind of leadership OBJ failed to give @OfficialPDPNig in 2007 is what PMB just provided for the world to see: complete transparent process to pick a possible successor,” Keyamo tweeted.

Tinubu brushed off stiff competition from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and Senate President Ahmad Lawan to emerge as the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2023 general election.

Keyamo stated that the heroes of the APC at the party’s special national convention that produced Tinubu are the APC governors from the Northern part of the country.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Northern Governors against all odds pulled the magic wand to sway the presidential ticket of the APC to the Southern part of Nigeria.

“The heroes of APC Convention are the Northern Govs who reflected the extreme complexity of Nigeria in their decision to move power down South,” Keyamo tweeted.

“We celebrate here today, a true Nigerian who was born in Delta State, raised in Kaduna and got married to a Yoruba woman, Mama Caroline Keyamo.

“It is important for us always to bear in mind that with the nature of our nation, we really must celebrate men and women like this; men who go completely outside their comfort zone and who make Nigeria happen in a very distinctive way.

“So, we celebrate this true Nigerian and we know that he was someone who has proved in public service that you can serve the public, serve society and distinguished yourself and still be a person who is highly regarded as a person of integrity and honesty.

“We celebrate this excellent Nigerian and l will want to say that just looking at his life and looking at all of the things that he managed to achieve; first he was one of the pioneers of cooperative societies in Nigeria.

“He was also someone who by dint of hard work and honesty, became an auditor, one of the first internal auditors in the then Mid-Western Government.

“Even after that, he went into private life and worked as the Managing Director of Olori Group of Companies and distinguished himself there as well,” he said.

Osinbajo added that the deceased must be celebrated in every possible way, saying “l think that as they say, the legacies of great people, the legacies of great men and great women do not need any elaboration.

“It is very evident from even their children and grandchildren as we have seen and heard today. We have heard from his children, we have heard from his grandchildren and we know that all of them in public and private lives have distinguished themselves.

“And, we know that he had always himself, all through his life, demonstrated exactly what he wants his family to be like after him and his children had proved that.

“Like you heard in previous tributes, this was a great man with large heart and a generous spirit and l think that it is now up to us and up to his children and grandchildren to ensure that we continue in the way that Pa Keyamo had demonstrated and to continue to live our lives in the certain examples that he had set.

“On behalf of the President, President Mohammadu Buhari and the government and the people of Nigeria, l will like to express my deep condolences to the Keyamo family, the governor and the people of Delta State over the passage of Pa Keyamo, the father of my dear brother, Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment and his siblings.

“I thank God for the life of our departed father and it is my wish that many parents will continue to raise their families like the Keyamo family because when that happens we have a peaceful state and country.

“I am excited that papa brought up lovely children who have also brought forth other great children.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta state, I express my condolences to the Keyamo family and I pray that God grant you all the fortitude to bear the passing of papa,” Okowa said.
