    BREAKING: Violence rocks Balogun Market, trader reportedly killed

    Balogun Market in Lagos Island market activities as a trader was reportedly killed.

    A viral message has it that two hustling young men (market runners) had a disagreement earlier today, Wednesday, August 27, 2025. One of them, a “son of the soil” (Yoruba), reportedly stabbed his opponent, who is from the eastern part of the country, with a bottle but he snatched the weapon and stabbed the Yoruba boy, who dropped dead.

    A voice note and written message tagged SOS claims that, as a result, traders from across the Niger are being pursued and killed.

    However, a trader at the market who spoke with an online medium around 3:30 p.m. said that only one person was known to have died in the fracas.

    “One person died. That I can confirm,” the source, speaking from his place of business at the market revealed.

    He disclosed that police have intervened to bring the situation under control and that “many people have locked up their shops and left the market.”

    Fire razes residential building, shop in Iseyin

    The Oyo State Fire Services Agency says fire on Thursday razed a residential building and shop at Atake, Adebo Axis of Oja-Oba in Iseyin Area of the state.

    The Chairman of the state fire agency, Mr Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan.

    Akinwande said the agency received a distress call at exactly 4:04 p.m. on Thursday from one Mrs Adegoke Anifat.

    He explained that firefighters led by ACFS Azeez Muritala were immediately deployed to the scene, where they met an ancient residential building and an adjoining shop already engulfed in flames.

    According to him, the personnel swiftly swung into action and successfully curtailed the fire, preventing it from spreading to other nearby buildings and properties.

    The chairman said no casualties were recorded, but properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

    He attributed the cause of the fire to a power surge.

    Akinwande urged residents to be more safety-conscious and stressed the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes and business premises to mitigate future incidents.

    A fire outbreak has damaged parts of the Garki 2 Divisional Police Station in Abuja, threatening property worth hundreds of millions of naira.

    The swift intervention of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) prevented the blaze from causing extensive destruction on Tuesday morning.

    Assistant Controller General A.U. Umar, Head of Corporate Services at the FFS Headquarters, confirmed the incident in a brief statement, noting that property valued at over ₦200 million was salvaged through the prompt response of firemen.

    Umar stated, “On Tuesday, 12th August 2025, our gallant men from the Federal Fire Service, National Headquarters, led by SF Agbo, swiftly responded to a fire outbreak at Garki 2 Divisional Police Station, Abuja, saving property worth over N200 million.

    “The blaze, caused by an electrical surge, was quickly extinguished with CO₂ extinguishers, followed by salvage operations to prevent re-ignition.”

    However, no casualties were reported as at the time of filing this report.

    Umar added that the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Mohammed Amadu, commended the fire crew for their professionalism during the operation.

    He said the agency also shared safety tips with the station to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

    Incidents of fire outbreaks in police stations and other public institutions across Nigeria are not uncommon, with most traced to electrical faults, faulty wiring, or power surges.

    In December 2023, a similar fire incident occurred at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command Headquarters, damaging several offices before it was brought under control.

    The Federal Fire Service has consistently urged government agencies to implement strict fire safety protocols, conduct regular electrical maintenance, and install functional firefighting equipment to curb such occurrences.

    Fire razes properties worth millions in Ogbomosho

    Properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed as no fewer than six shops were razed by fire in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

    The fire, which occurred on Thursday at Ile-Ewe, Sawmill Area, Ogbomoso, affected six out of 10 locked up shops in the area.

    The Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement in Ibadan on Friday.

    According to Akinwande, the personnel of the agency received a distress call about the fire incident from one Mr David Ajagbe at exactly 14.08hrs on Thursday.

    Akinwande said that the agency’s personnel, led by CFS Dairo, promptly left for the scene and arrived on time.

    “On getting to the scene, we met six out of 10 locked up shops well alight and quickly engaged our appliance and we were able to curtail the fire from spreading to other shops and nearby properties.

    “Properties worth millions of Naira were affected by the fire and fire service was able to save millions of properties,” the chairman said.

    He added that no casualty was recorded while investigation was on going to ascertain the cause of the fire incident.

    Fire has gutted a popular wood and timber market known as Kara Market in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, destroying shops and properties.

    The fire, which began in the early hours of Sunday, resulted in the loss of goods and structures worth millions of naira.

    According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread rapidly before firefighters arrived.

    We just saw smoke everywhere, and before we knew it, the flames had engulfed most of the shops,” Musa Bello, a trader at the market, said.”

    The cause of the fire remained unknown.

    GSM market fire devastating – Kano Dep. Gov. reacts

    The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Abdussalam, has commiserated with the traders affected by the fire outbreak at the Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano.

    The incident, which occurred on Sallah day, affected Dan Sulaika Plaza, destroying several shops and properties in one of the state’s busiest commercial centres.

    In a statement issued on Saturday by his Press Secretary, Ibrahim Garba , the deputy governor described the incident as devastating, expressing sympathy on behalf of Gov. Abba Yusuf and the state government.

    “This is a deeply saddening event. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is extremely concerned, and we stand in solidarity with those who have lost their means of livelihood,” he said.

    He assured the affected traders that the government would explore ways to support them and help cushion the impact of their losses.

    Abdussalam further stated that the Yusuf’s administration was committed to strengthening fire safety measures across markets in the state to prevent future occurrences.

    The market is a major hub for cell phones and computer accessories, employing thousands of traders.

    Fire ravages foam-ladened packing store at popular Enugu market

    Fire Fighters from the Enugu State Fire Service have quelled an inferno in a foam-ladened packing store within Ogbete Main Market, Enugu on Monday.

    The Director of the Service, Chief Okwudili Ohaa made the disclosure in an interview on Monday in Enugu.

    He said the swift response of the state fire service prevented the fire which started around 1.20pm from spreading to other parts of the market.

    According to him, within five minutes of receiving the distress call from the Chairman of Enugu North LGA, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, and other concerned citizens at about 1:25 p.m., we arrived the scene.

    “In less than 10 minutes battling the raging fire with our officers attached to the Ogbete Main Market Fire Station, those from our headquarters in Ogui, market vigilante/security group; we contained the fire from the store where it started.

    “The packing store is on top of the usual shops. So, no trading shop was affected. No life was lost. The valuables destroyed were few foams,” he told NAN.

    Ohaa thanked the LG Chairman and other citizens for their swift call as well as other organisations and individuals that contributed to the extinguishing of the fire.

    He attributed the cause of the inferno to probably electrical surge, adding; “We discovered crowded electrical wiring in the affected packing store.”

    Ohaa, however, urged the authority of the market to restore the original master plan of the market, which made provision for a free access way into the market.

    “As I speak to you, the fire truck of the market provided by the state government is at the headquarters; since there is no space to park it in the market.

    “And if you park the truck in the market, there is no access route for it to move swiftly, as traders wares occupy large portion of the major access routes in the market,” he said.

    BREAKING: Fire guts Kurmi market in Kano

    The Kano State Fire Service has said that fire had destroyed six shops at Kurmi (Yan’ Jagal) Market in Kano on Friday.

    A statement signed and issued to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, made this known on Friday in Kano.

    According to the statement, we received a distress from Jakara police division at about 01:35 am that there was a fire outbreak at the Kurmi Jakara market.

    “Upon receiving the information, we quickly sent a fire vehicle to the scene, to bring the situation under control,’’ the statement said.

    Abdullahi, in the statement, explained that six shops were completely razed down by the fire, mainting that no life was lost and cause of the fire was under investigation.

    The Fire Service however, advised traders at the market and other residents, to always switch off all electrical appliances and disconnect the sources when not in use.

    A three-storey building was on Friday gutted by fire at the Iso Onibata area of Idumota, Lagos State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the fire incident was disclosed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) .

    According to LASTMA, men of the fire service have been contacted and are expected to arrive soon.

    “This incident has no effect on traffic yet, as we are still experiencing a smooth ride,” LASTMA stated.

    Efforts to contact the Lagos State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, Lagos Command for an update proved abortive at the time of filing this report.

    Sad! Midnight fire engulfs 12 shops in Ibadan’s Agodi-Gate Market

    A late-night fire outbreak at the Mayegun Cement Store Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, has destroyed no fewer than 12 shops, leaving traders counting their losses.

    The incident occurred on Thursday night and raged for more than three hours before it was brought under control.

    Eyewitnesses told journalists on Friday that the fire began at approximately 10:55 PM at Block A, No. 64 of the market, located in the Araromi area of Agodi-Gate. The flames reportedly spread rapidly through the row of shops, fueled by combustible materials in the vicinity.

    Preliminary findings suggest that the inferno was caused by an electrical surge that occurred near items susceptible to catching fire, escalating the damage.

    Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, said the agency received an emergency alert at exactly 11:02 PM.

    “Our control room received a distress call at 23:02 hours on Thursday, April 10, 2025,” he said. “The alert came in through a phone call placed by a Mr. Young, who reported a fire outbreak at the specified address. Our response team, led by Chief Fire Superintendent Jimoh, was immediately dispatched to the location.”

    Upon arrival, fire personnel met several shops already engulfed in flames. “We acted swiftly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties,” Akinyinka stated.

    Despite the destruction of 12 shops, the fire service noted that property worth billions of naira was salvaged due to the prompt intervention. The firefighting operation concluded around 3:18 AM on Friday.

    Local traders and market leaders have called for improved fire safety measures in the area, including better electrical infrastructure and accessible fire extinguishers, to prevent future disasters.
