    UPDATE: We have put out fire at Ministry of Finance – Fire Service

    The Federal Fire Service has confirmed putting out the Wednesday early morning fire that engulfed the Federal Ministry of Finance, located in the Central Business District of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports a source at the Federal Fire Service, who asked not to be named gave the confirmation, adding the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

    “The fire at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja has been put off. The fire started this morning and our men quickly mobilized to put out the fire. The cause of the incident is not known yet,” the source told TNG.

    An early morning fire on Wednesday razed parts of a building at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports it is not clear if the fire incident affected the main building of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

    At the time of filing this report, the fire was still raging with no men of the federal fire service on ground.

    TNG reports the Federal Ministry of Finance building is located in the Central Business District of Abuja.

    Video showing LASU’s senate building on fire fake, says Management

    The management of the Lagos State University (LASU),Ojo, has urged the university community and the public to disregard a video showing LASU senate building on fire saying the video is fake.

    Mr Ademola Adekoya , the Coordinator of the Centre for Information Press and Public Relations,LASU, stated this in a statement he released to newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos.

    Adekoya said that a video making the rounds ostentsibly showing the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building of the university on fire had been brought to the attention of the institution’s management.

    “We wish to state clearly that the video is fake and totally unfounded.

    “We regard this as nothing but the handiwork of some unscrupulous fellows with wild and vile imaginations seeking to create unnecessary tension in the minds of members of the university and the public.

    “We, therefore, advise that the video should be disregarded in its entirely and should not be validated any further by being shared and forwarded to others,” he said in the statement.

    Six bodies deposited in Benue mortuary burnt by fire

    Six bodies have been reportedly burnt by fire that gutted a mortuary at the Agagbe Community in Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State.

    The fire, according to a report by Gatekeepers News, started in the late hours of Friday, burning to ashes the bodies deposited in the morgue.

    The mortuary was said to belong to St Francis Xavier Parish Agagbe.

    The fire broke out about 5:00 pm on Friday.

    Confirming the report, the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, a Superintendent of Police said that six corpses were burnt.

    She was quoted to have said: “It is true; the DPO is on it; the information we received is that the fire started somewhere and only extended to the morgue. Six corpses were burnt, an investigation is ongoing.”

    FPSO Trinity Spirit fire burnt out completely – SEPCOL

    The Management of Shebah Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SEPCOL) says the fire which engulfed its offshore Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility has burnt out completely.

    Mr Ikemefuna Okafor, Chief Executive Officer, SEPCOL (In receivership), confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

    The Trinity Spirit FPSO located at at Ukpokiti field (OML 108) in Delta had exploded in the early hours of Wednesday.

    Okafor said the company had been working with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to contain the situation.

    According to him, an investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the explosion.

    He said: “We can confirm that the fire burnt out completely as of Thursday afternoon and this has enabled closer inspection of the vessel.

    “With this development, a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) has been scheduled for Feb. 5 with the relevant authorities, stakeholders and expert organisations.”

    Okafor said there was still no reported fatalities from the incident.

    He said the company would, however, continue prioritising investigations with respect to establishing the whereabouts, safety, and security of the ten crew members who were on board the vessel prior to the incident.

    Okafor lauded the assistance provided by the Clean Nigeria Associates, the Chevron team, government agencies and the people of the community, particularly the fishermen since the incident occurred.

    He said, “members of the public should continue to keep away from the area while our Crisis Management Team monitors developments in the investigations and update all stakeholders with new information accordingly.”

    SEPCOL confirms fire incident at offshore facility [VIDEO]

    The Management of Shebah Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SEPCOL) has confirmed that there was a fire incident at its offshore Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FSPO) facility on Wednesday.

    Mr Ikemefuna Okafor, Chief Executive Officer, SEPCOL (In receivership), made the confirmation in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos.

    Okafor said an explosion occured at the Trinity Spirit FSPO located at the Ukpokiti Terminal at the early hours of Wednesday.

    He said: “The cause of the explosion is currently being investigated and we are working with necessary parties to contain the situation.

    “At this time, there are no reported fatalities, but we can confirm that there were 10 crew men on board the vessel prior to the incident and we are prioritising investigations with respect to their safety and security.”

    “We appreciate the assistance provided us by the Clean Nigeria Associates, the Chevron team operating in the nearby Escravos facility and our community stakeholders.

    “We also appreciate the fishermen who have been of tremendous assistance since the incident happened.”

    Okafor said the company had duly notified all relevant authorities and appealed to the members of the public to stay away from the area.

    He added that SEPCOL’s Crisis Management Team would continue to monitor the situation and update all stakeholders with new information as the investigation evolves.

    Fire guts Obasanjo’s farm

    The Director, Benue Fire Service, Mr Donald Ikyaaza, has confirmed the fire incident at Obasanjo Mango Farm at Howe, Gwer Local Government Area.

    Ikyaaza confirmed to journalists in a telephone interview in Makurdi on Monday that the fire gutted the farm at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

    He said that immediately the news of the incident reached him, the service deployed men to put out the fire to prevent escalation and further damage in the area.

    He, however, attributed the cause of the fire to alleged sabotage.

    Meanwhile, the Chairman, Gwer Local Government Council, Mr Emmanuel Ortserga, also alleged that the fire incident was a deliberate act.

    “The farm is properly safeguarded against all forms of disasters,” Ortserga said.

    He said that a stakeholders meeting had been summoned to trace and arrest the perpetrators of the act.

    He added that the farm was 139 hectares and half of it was burnt down.

    When contacted, the command Police Spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, said that the police was aware of the incident but was not sure if any arrest was made.

    BREAKING: Popular Ogbe-Ijoh market on fire

    The popular Ogbe-Ijoh market in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State is reportedly on fire.

    The market known for being one of the biggest fish markets across Nigeria was greeted by the inferno on Sunday afternoon.

    While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, sources told Daily Report Nigeria that the fire looked like it was setup deliberately.

    As of the time of filing this report, the inferno was still raging as residents try to put it out.

  • Fire guts section of Port Harcourt refinery

    Fire guts section of Port Harcourt refinery

    A fire outbreak occurred at the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), affecting a section of the refinery and disrupting activities.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the fire incident happened on New Year’s day, but was contained by the safety structure at the refinery and with support from the Federal Fire service.

    According to a statement, following the incident, released by Garba Deen Muhammad, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, the incident affected only the discharging truck and the pump bay.

    The statement reads: “This morning, 01/01/2022, a minor fire incidence occurred at the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) .

    “The incident, which was contained in less than two hours was caused by a spark while a 33,000 litre truck was discharging naphtha into a tank at the PHRC.

    “The management of the refinery led by the Managing Director, who was at the scene supervising the operation, immediately mobilized the safety structure at the PHRC and with support from the Federal Fire service, successfully brought the fire under control.

    “The management of the PHRC wishes to reassure Nigerians resident in the neighbourhood of the facility that they have no cause to worry about the incident; and to also affirm that the safety of life and of property is at the top of its priority list.

    “The incident affected only the discharging truck and the pump bay. No other property was damaged.

    “The management and staff of the PHRC hereby extends its profound appreciations to all those that contributed in bringing a speedy end to the incidence; while wishing all Nigerians a very happy and fulfilling New Year 2022”.

    Fire guts Enugu State-owned broadcasting house

    The ground floor of the headquarters building of Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS) was gutted by fire on Tuesday.

    The Chief Fire Officer in Enugu State, Chief Okwudili Ohaa confirmed in Enugu that the fire service deployed three fire engines to the scene instantly.

    He said the fire was completely extinguished within 30 minutes and the building salvaged from the raging inferno.

    “We were on hand to salvage the entire building and even before we arrived, the employees of ESBS were already battling the fire with the station’s fire extinguishers.

    “It was only one big office that was seriously affected at the ground floor.

    “The fire did not affect the station’s studios and other important offices or sections of the building,’’ he said.

    Meanwhile, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has visited and commiserated with the station and its staff over the incident.

    Ugwuanyi directed the management and technical crew of the station to ensure that the station was fully back on air soonest.

    The station is fully back on air as at the time of this report.
