    Fire guts Federal secretariat in Abuja, two injured after jumping from building

    At least two people have been injured in a fire that engulfed a part of the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja on Wednesday.

    Eyewitnesses said that they jumped from the second floor where the fire started and injured themselves.

    According to one eyewitness, the fire started on the second floor of the first phase of the complex, which houses the Federal Ministry of Education.

    Officials of the Federal Fire Service (FSS) battled the fire for hours before it was finally put off after deploying four firefighting trucks.

    Located in the three-arm zone of the nation’s capital, the complex houses major federal ministries, departments and agencies.

    A yet to be unidentified woman was captured on CCTV footage setting the Ebeano supermarket in the Lokogoma area of Abuja on fire, on Saturday, July 17, 2021.

    The footage has been making the rounds on WhatsApp and other social media platforms all day.

    Recall TheNewsGuru TNG) had earlier reported how fire razed the multi-million Naira shopping mall all night and well into the early hours of the next day.

    The cause of the fire was said to be unascertained at the time, but in the CCTV footage, a young woman dressed in a black T-Shirt and jeans, can be seen walking down the aisle where books, lighters and gas cylinders are stocked up on the shelves, before lighting up a fire that would go on to engulf the entire building.

    The woman walked away briskly and vanished out of sight.

    Goods, property destroyed as fire razes popular Abuja supermarket, Prince Ebeano

    Popular retail supermarket in Abuja, Prince Ebeano Supermarket, Lokogoma, Abuja, has been gutted by fire.

    The fire started in the evening on Saturday.

    However, the cause of the fire has not been ascertained at press time.

    The amount of damage the fire has caused the supermarket is also yet to be estimated.

    However, while the fire was on, scores of Firefighters were at the scene to quell the fire.

    The FCT Fire Service spokesman, Ibrahim Muhammad, confirmed the incident.

    “Ebeano supermarket is on fire and many FCT fire stations namely Nji, Games Village, Garki and Asokoro are there fighting the fire,” he said.

    Fire engulfs, destroys multi-million naira goods at popular spare parts market in Lagos

    A fire on Wednesday morning destroyed shops containing car accessories worth millions of Naira at the Ladipo Spare Parts Market in Mushin area of Lagos State.

    The Nation learnt no one was trapped or died in the incident.

    The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the inferno occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.

    The Acting Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye said the shops which was affected housed vehicle air conditioners, engine oil, paints and other car accessories.

    He stated that firefighters had a tough time putting out the fire as one of the shops had inflammable items.

    Aside LASEMA, other emergency responders including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and its fire unit as well as the Lagos State Government Fire Service were all at the scene to contain the incident.

    Residents said the fire started at about 6 am.

    The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said no casualties were recorded at the scene of the accident.

    “Joint responders comprising the agency and its fire service, LASG Fire service, are on the ground making efforts to put the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings.”

    Fire has gutted a storey building at Ladipo, in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

    The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the cause of the fire was yet to be established, adding that efforts were on to put out the fire.

    He added that no casualties have been recorded.

    Oke-Osanyintolu said, “The agency received distress calls on around 6am and activated its response plan. On arrival, the LRT discovered a storey building engulfed in flames.

    “The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as at the time of writing this report and no casualties have been recorded.

    “Joint responders comprising the agency and its fire service, LASG Fire service are on ground making efforts to put the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings. The operation ongoing and further updates to follow.”

    Fire kills family of 6 in Vietnam

    Six people died after a blaze engulfed a three-storey house early Tuesday in a city in central Vietnam, police said.

    Among the victims are four adults, including a pregnant woman, and two children, Vietnamese police said in a report.

    The fire broke out at 00:05 am local time (1805 GMT) in Vinh city, Nghe An province.

    The house, which used to be a music club, had been shut down by local authorities under coronavirus restrictions, the report said.

    Witnesses at the scene, who had been watching the Euro 2020 football tournament, said they heard an explosion and saw smoke and fire coming from the house.

    The front door was locked, so there was no way to approach the house, Tuoi Tre newspaper quoted a resident living opposite the house as saying.

    Firefighters rushed to the scene, yet it took them more than two hours to extinguish the fire.

    The first and second floors were severely damaged.

    Once the fire was brought under control, firefighters found four bodies on the first floor and two other victims in the bathroom on the third floor.

    Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

    Fire-related deaths are reportedly regularly in Vietnam.

    On June 5, four members of a family died after their house caught fire in Quang Ngai province in central Vietnam.

    A month ago, eight people died after a blaze engulfed a house in Ho Chi Minh City.

    Fire guts Federal Secretariat complex in Delta State

    Fire has engulfed a section of the Federal Secretariat complex along Okpanam road in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

    The raging inferno was said to have started through the surge of an air conditioner installed in the administrative office of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), destroying valuable properties.

    The state fire service led by the Assistant Controller General of Zone K, Udom Daniel was, however, immediately deployed to the complex to put out the inferno.

    According to the fire service, the offices were under lock and key, causing a major setback as the firemen struggled to put out the fire from the outside.

    ACG Daniel, however, advised the secretariat management to always ensure some offices are open in case of such emergencies.

    Officers of the state police command were also on ground to ascertain the level of damage caused by the inferno.

    Gas station explodes in Lagos, wrecks two shops

    A gas station along Ogunlana Street, Ketu-Ikosi Road, Lagos, has exploded, causing an inferno that razed two shops on the street.

    This is coming just two days after a storey building where motor spare parts were being sold at the Alapeju section of the Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos, was gutted by fire.

    Observers said the fire started about a few minutes past midnight on Tuesday after the Power Holding Company of Nigeria restored power supply.

    Emmanuel Aka, who lives on the street, said he heard a loud explosion sound and ran out of his house with his newborn baby wrapped around him.

    “My wife was still asleep as it was well past midnight. I woke her up and we ran out with just the wrapper we used to cover ourselves as we slept.”

    A man who lived next to the affected building, who gave his name as Chief, said he saw a girl jump into his compound as he was on his balcony receiving fresh air.

    “I quickly became alert. I thought it was a thief. I ran after her and she shouted, ‘Fire! Fire!’. I opened my gate and that was when I heard a loud sound like that of an explosion. I didn’t know which way to run as my car was packed inside and my family was also inside. It was a terrible dilemma.

    “Most people were awake following the explosion. I later managed to drive my car away from the scene. If the fire had gotten serious, it would have affected us in this building,” he said.

    Operatives of the Lagos State Fire Service, who arrived at the scene almost after an hour, have put the fire under control. No casualties recorded as of the time of filing this report.

    Fire gutted the Alapeju section of the Ladipo market in Mushin area of Lagos state.

    Officials of the Lagos state fire service who arrived at the scene said the occurrence happened on Sunday morning.

    As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire has not been determined.

    “We are currently attending to Fire emergency at spare parts sales line, Alapeju section of Ladipo Market, Mushin Lagos,” the agency wrote on Twitter.

    Fire guts INEC headquarters in Enugu State

    The headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu State, was on Sunday night gutted by fire barely one week after the office in Obollo-Afor, Udenu was razed.

    The office is located at number 1 Achi Street by Agric Bank Bus stop in Independence Layout, Enugu.

    The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Mohammed Aliyu, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

    The commissioner, who did not respond to further questions, said that he was still at the scene of the incident to save the office from the disaster.

    NAN however, gathered at the time of filing this report, that the Enugu State Fire Service as well as the Federal Fire Service were also doing everything possible to quench the fire.

    Several calls made to INEC officials especially the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Emeka Ononamadu and the Public Relations Officer by NAN were not picked.

    Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has commenced investigation into the fire incident on the INEC office at Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area of the state.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the incessant fire incidents at the commission’s offices in some parts of the country is becoming a source of worry to its leadership and political players in the country especially as the 2023 general elections draw closer.

    The INEC leadership had last week said it will hold emergency meeting with all its Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) over the constant attacks on its offices.

    The meeting, TNG gathered will hold on Wednesday, May 19 in Abuja.
