I no longer watch football, it scares me – Aguero

Former Barcelona striker, Sergio Aguero has admitted he wants to watch and play football but he’s too scared following his cardiac arrhythmia diagnosis.

The Argentine was forced into retiring from football on the back of medical advice from his doctors, much to the dismay of fans worldwide.

Aguero has insisted now is the time to relax, though he will begin to consider what kind of role he could still play in football in the future.

According to TYC Sports, Aguero said: “Today I want to play, but I’m scared. I trained all my life to the maximum and in big competitions. I don’t watch football or the news, I don’t care what’s going on.

“I concentrate on what I like the most, like friends. Returning to play comes into my head from time to time but I know it’s something I can’t do. They told me I was lucky because I could easily have had a heart attack. Now it time to relax. I’m happy with what I’m doing.

On his role with Argentina for the 2022 World Cup: “We’re still talking about what role I’ll have. [Argentine FA president Claudio Tapia] has always been nice to me and asked me to come.

“We’re going to chat a little more to see if I’ll go to the World Cup draw. I’ll be there with the guys, I get along very well with them. I’ll be there with them and helping them with tense situations.”

Cristiano Ronaldo to quit Man Utd, if….

37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo will quit the Manchester United again at the end of this season, if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

It was gathered that Manchester United will not stop Cristiano Ronaldo from leaving this summer if he demands a transfer away.

And it is understood the club will allow him go if it is clear he wants to leave.

There is now a growing acceptance inside Old Trafford that bringing Ronaldo back after 11 years spent with Real Madrid and Juventus was an error of judgement.

The move was driven by both commercial factors and the determination to stop him joining rivals Manchester City.

But despite topping United’s scoring charts with 15 goals, Ronaldo is showing signs of wear and tear after playing almost 19 seasons at the top level.

RONALDO’S FIRST MOVE TO MAN UTD

Ronaldo’s move to Manchester United was completed on 12 August 2003, too late for the 2003 FA Community Shield but in time for their game against Bolton Wanderers on the opening day of the 2003–04 season, and made him the first Portuguese player to sign for the club.

NFF rolls out new qualification criteria for match commissioners

The Match Commissioners’ Appointment Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has rolled out new criteria for interested football stakeholders to meet in order to be considered for the role of match commissioners in Nigeria’s domestic game.

Rising from its inauguration and inaugural meeting in the Federal Capital, Abuja on Wednesday, Chairman of the NFF Match Commissioners’ Appointment Committee, Alhaji Babagana Kalli announced that henceforth, no individual above the age of 65 or below the age of 30 would be considered for the role.

“In addition, we have now expunged the names of all retired referees from the list of match commissioners. Means of identification would now be by international passport, national identity card of driver’s license, and computer literacy is now a key requirement for anyone who wishes to be considered for the role of match commissioner in Nigeria.”

Earlier, at the inauguration, First Vice President of the NFF, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi, who stood in for the NFF President, charged the committee to develop workable criteria to drastically reduce the number of match commissioners in the country, as the NFF considered the present number bogus and impracticable considering the number of matches played over a season.

Akinwunmi reiterated that the roles of the referee and the match commissioner are the most crucial in the general management of a football game, and that administrators must regularly seek to improve the policies and methods through which the best hands must emerge, fully prepared, for both roles. “We must also select the very best hands for these important roles without any form of primordial sentiments.”

Also present at the inauguration were the Chairman of Chairmen of Nigeria Football, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and the Chairman of Referees Committee, Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa.

Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, another Member of the NFF Executive Committee, is the vice chairman of the Match Commissioners Appointment Committee, with Timothy Henman Magaji, Bayo Olanlege, Sunday Longbap, Yabagi Baba, Aminu Manmaga, Sabo Abdullahi Dutse, Greg Abang Obuh, Kenneth Nwamuocha, Maurice Mbam and Donald Mbaezue as members. • Why Manchester United will sack Rangnick – Merson

Why Manchester United will sack Rangnick – Merson

Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, would be sacked if the club does not finish in the Premier League top-four position this season.

This was disclosed by Arsenal legend, Paul Merson.

It would be recalled that Rangnick came under fire in recent weeks, with Man United putting in a number of underwhelming performances – including an FA Cup defeat at Old Trafford to Middlesbrough.

One-hundred percent Rangnick won’t be in charge of Man Utd next season

The German also watched as his team failed to beat Southampton in a Premier League tie on Saturday after playing a 1-1 draw.

The result against Southampton means Man United is now in the 5th position on the Premier League table with 40 points from 24 matches.

Merson said: “One-hundred percent Rangnick won’t be in charge of Man Utd next season. I have got as much chance of being in charge. I just don’t see it.

“I read something that said they have improved. I don’t see that. I don’t see happiness there. I hear so much coming out of Man Utd, at the moment, which is just extraordinary. It never happened before and that is my worry.

“I don’t see him being there and the way it’s going at the moment, if they don’t get in the top four, I would be shocked if he went upstairs. I know that was part of the deal, but I don’t think it is a good thing. I think this needs to be nipped in the bud sooner rather than later at Manchester United.

“I would have had someone in as soon as possible. You pay £70m to £80m for football players and some of them don’t even play. Why would you not break the bank for managers if you need to get a manager out of a club? In my opinion, they are very important.”

“I am working on this agenda, because there is need for the two countries, to try to use sports as a way to deepen relations between them.

“I also have lots of plans for next year after COVID-19; I believe that lots of Journalists will like to go to China, because seeing is believing.

“China has now really achieved a lot. We have lots of challenges, but I believe that if you go to China you will see China and I think that is beneficial to Nigerians.

“We can use table tennis to build friendship between the two nations. It is very important and I think it special for young people to make friends, share ideas and exchange thoughts.”

He disclosed that the Chinese embassy plans to create opportunities for Journalists to go to China and encourage Chinese people to come to Nigeria for nationals of both countries learn from each other.

More so, Cui said, although the tournament could not hold in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic, China is putting-up measures to support Nigeria, to ensure that normalcy is restored, saying “Chinese central government has decided to donate Chinese vaccine to Nigeria.

“Firstly, batch of 500,000 dosages will be delivered to Nigeria before the end of this year and millions of dosages could be provided by the Chinese government, so we await your government’s response.

“We have 40 countries that use Chinese vaccines, donated by China, so on the Nigerian side, I have not received any response from your government.

“I hope by the end of this year we can provide a million dosages to Nigeria and this is very important,” he added.

Also speaking, Mr Emmanuel Ogbeche, Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Chapter, thanked the Embassy of China and promised to work closely with the mission to sustain the feat.

According to Ogbeche, the support derived from the mission and its Cultural Centre has gone a long way to promote the well being of members of the Union and to physically keep fit.

In a separate interview, the overall winner of the tournament in the men’s singles category, Tiennabeso Bibiye, a staff of AIT, expressed appreciation to the management of Daar Communications for its support.

According to him, the management provided the enabling environment for its staff to prepare adequately for the tournament.

“I came into this competition with some level of confidence, because I am a regular table tennis player, that is what I do, it is a passion for me, it is something I do to keep fit.

“But, I never knew I was going to meet stiff opponent in today’s game.

Equally, the overall Winner of Women’s singles category, Hannah Onoja, also a staff of AIT, attributed her success to adequate preparations.

“I really trained hard for this game, knowing fully well of what is ahead for me, I trained under the sun and rain just for this particular tournament.

“So, I am not surprised at my performance, I have been playing since the past three weeks,” Onoja said.
