Visit to Buhari: All 12 suspended Anambra monarchs make U-Turn, beg Obiano for forgiveness

The 12 rulers suspended by Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano have begged him for forgiveness.

They apologised at the Office of Speaker of the House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, when they visited him at the weekend.

Obiano suspended the monarchs for visiting President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja without permission.

But the royal fathers urged Okafor to beg Obiano on their behalf.

Traditional ruler of Ifetedunu Emeka Ilouno, who spoke for others, said they had no intention and have none to fight the governor.

Ilouno, who described Obiano as God sent to Ndi Anambra, said the governor’s administration had turned the state around.

He said Obiano had been and is still their close ally, alleging some people blew the matter out of proportion to score cheap points.

The first monarch that was suspended was Peter Uyanwa of Ukwulu, Dunukofia council. The state said his suspension was based on petitions from his people.

Uyanwa urged Obiano to remember his position as Papal Knight of St. Gregory the Great, and use the anointing bestowed on him by Pope Francis to forgive.

Uche noted their visit showed they love the peace of the state. He described the move as a step in the right direction.

He promised to bring the matter to Obiano, who he described as soft and kind hearted.

Meanwhile, Oil magnate Prince Arthur Eze has said calls by Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, that the rulers be banished with him is inconsequential.

Ngige, at the weekend, called on Obiano to not only suspend the 12 monarchs, but also banish them.

The minister added that the ban should be extended to Eze, who led the delegation to Abuja, to deter others.

    But Eze condemned Ngige’s statement.

A statement by his media aide, Okpala Okechukwu, reads: “It was improper for Ngige to call for the ban of royal fathers whose only offence was travelling to Abuja to praise President Muhammadu Buhari for the magnificent jobs he has done for the people in Southeast.

“As a minister, Ngige should know that no section of the constitution empowers a governor to banish or trample on the fundamental human rights of any citizen. Any governor who attempts to heed Ngige’s call would be taking an action that is against the letters and spirit of the constitution.

“Ngige’s call for the banishment of a man of Prince Eze’s status is most callous, derogatory and unbecoming of a minister.”

VIDEO: One out of 12 suspended Anambra monarchs beg Obiano for forgiveness

Igwe MacAnthony Okonkwo, one of the 12 suspended traditional rulers in Anambra state has tendered an unreserved apology to Governor Willie Obiano.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Greg Obi, the commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs in a statement said the monarchs were suspended for travelling out of the state, without “consultation or approval”from the government.

Okonkwo, who is the ruler of Alor in Idemili South Council Area of the state tendered the apology in an interview with the state owned, Anambra Broadcasting Service.

His appeasement move came after the 12 rulers held a conference in Abuja, expressing surprise that they were punished by Governor Obiano and the Anambra Traditional Council.

The traditional rulers said at their conference on Thursday, that they went to Abuja to thank President Muhammadu Buhari, for all the good things his administration is doing in the South East.

But Okonkwo also revealed why the council and Obiano flashed them a yellow card: the rulers visit to Abuja was at the instance of Sir Arthur Eze, who has some issues with Obiano.

In the interview with Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Igwe Okonkwo regretted his actions for his failure to inform Obiano, as the Chief Security Officer of the state before embarking on the trip with others to Abuja.

He tried to massage the ego of Obiano, by praising him for his achievements.

He then appealed to the chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe to tamper justice with mercy to intervene in the matter.

He also suggested that steps should be taken to reconcile Arthur Eze and Governor Obiano, both of them prominent citizens of the state.

  • Few months to leaving office, Ajimobi begs Oyo for ‘forgiveness’

Few months to leaving office, Ajimobi begs Oyo for ‘forgiveness’

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state has begged the political class and the people of the state for forgiveness for any errors he might have made during his two term tenure as governor.

Recall that the governor’s second term tenure ends on May 29, 2019.

Ajimobi made the plea on Sunday during two different events to commemorate and celebrate his 69th birthday.

He spoke at a grand reception organised by the apex umbrella body of all Ibadan socio-cultural groups, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, and the inauguration of a multi-million naira central mosque he built.

At the CCII event, the governor said, “Oyo State is a state that is loved and blessed by God and we all must work for its uplift.

We must not mock each other or work against anybody for selfish reason. I don’t want the downfall of anybody. What do I stand to gain if someone else’s fall?

Unlike those before me, I have never written any petition against anybody. If you steal what belongs to the people, if God did not reward you for your evil deeds, your children will pay for it.

I want to beg all of us to please continue this tradition of celebrating one another. It is not because I am leaving office, but because our state must be developed.”

At the dedication of the mosque, named, ‘Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque,’ located beside the All Progressives Congress state secretariat, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the governor was also installed and decorated as the Basorun Musulumi of Oyo State.

The mosque was inaugurated by the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.

The Sultan stated that the building of a mosque was a significant thing, adding that there was no better thing the governor could have dedicated than the mosque.

The monarch also called on the governor not to relent in what he described as “his good works.”

In his address, popular Islamic cleric and preacher, Sheikh Muyideen Ajani-Bello, commended the governor for fulfilling his covenant with God.

He said the dedicated mosque belonged to God and the people, adding that it should not be seen as a family property.

Ajani-Bello said, “Please, don’t see this as the last you will do for your people and God. You must have offended people as the governor, I implore you to seek forgiveness from them.”

The event was attended by Alhaji Sakariyau Babalola, NSCIA Deputy President-General; Alhaji Daud Akinola, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland; and Prof. Daud Noibi, Secretary-General, Muslim Ummah of South Western Nigeria (MUSWEN).

However, Ajimobi was turbaned as the new Bashorun Musulumi of Oyo State by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh AbdulGaniy Abubakri and was blessed by the NSCIA president-general.

In his address at the reception, the President-General of CCII, Chief Yemi Soladoye, said without the commitment and dedication of all the former governors in the state, Ibadan would not have attained its pace-setter status in Nigeria.

The reception was attended by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji; Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola; Oba Lekan Balogun; Governors Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo state), Gboyega Oyetola (Osun) who was represented by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi, and captain of industries, as well as political leaders.

  • Easter: Sen. Abe preaches forgiveness

The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has appealed to Christians to learn how to forgive one another just as Jesus Christ forgave mankind, advising them to surrender anything in their heart that will prevent God from answering their prayers.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to all of us as Christians, that we should try as much as possible to learn forgiveness. Christ, who was betrayed and crucified, forgave those who betrayed and crucified him, if he can forgive; what is it that people have done to you that you cannot forget and forgive as a Christian”.

Abe made the appeal while speaking at a special prayer session to mark Easter Good Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Capital and maintained that the period should also be used for sober reflection over our lives as mankind.

The senator said, “I want to appeal to all of us to use this time to remember our neighbours; sometime the situation they are facing may even be worse than our own. As we were praying today, I was praying to God to answer everyone because different people have different challenges and the one you think is the biggest challenge could actually be a very minor one comparing to the situation that others are facing.

“I pray that God will remember all of us this Easter season. Finally, I want to use this opportunity to encourage each and every one of you. There is nothing in life that is of value that is easy, there is nothing in life that is useful, that you can just pick like that without struggling for it”.

Abe, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on FERMA also appealed to Christians to use the period of the Easter celebration to remember in their prayers, the Dapchi girl who has not been released by her captors because of her refusal to deny Jesus Christ.

“Let us use the opportunity to specially remember the Dapchi Girl, particularly the little girl that is still being held. I want to urge each and every one of us to use that girl as a point of contact to remember to thank God that you are free to worship God as you like, that you are free every day to take little decisions about your life”.

“But there is a little girl somewhere away from her parents, away from her friends; she does not know if she will be alive tomorrow or death, but she is hanging on to the same God that you and I worship. I want us to remember that child and to pray for her not just today but every day”.

  • PDP truly shortchanged Nigerians, we need to seek genuine forgiveness – Mantu

Former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu has said the former ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) truly shortchanged Nigerians for the sixteen years it held sway as the ruling party.

The former Deputy Senate President who was speaking on a Channels’ Television programme ‘Hard Copy’ on Friday night also confessed to how he he helped his party win elections in the past through bribery and corruption.

I don’t have to go and change election (results) but when you provide money, you give money to INEC boys that if they see any chance they should favour you, you provide money to the security (personnel).

I tell you it’s not necessarily when I am contesting election but when my party sponsors a candidate, I will like that candidate to win election.”

Mantu who represented Plateau State in the Senate between 1999 and 2007 pronounced himself a born again politician in 2017.

He was elected on the platform of the PDP.

He agreed ‘wholeheartedly’ with PDP national chairman,Prince Uche Secundus,on the recent public apology he tendered on the party’s mistakes when it was in power between 1999 and 2015.

He said:”We have failed the people through the ways and politics. It is time for us to ensure that we do not allow the wrong people to lead the people and the nation.

As politicians, we have committed sins against the people, by encouraging the things that we should not have encouraged.

God has totally blessed our country Nigeria with abundant human and natural resources but we have failed to utilize these to improve the quality of lives of the people.”

Asked why he thought Secundus’ apology was in order, Mantu said: “there is the need for Nigerian politicians to apologize for all the sins we have committed against the people.

That is because we have shortchanged the people.”

He recalled, how in the PDP, names of candidates who won elections were deleted and replaced with other names.

Winners names were crossed out and replaced with names of those who did not win. It is bad because we imposed those who did not win on the people,” he said.

It is true that we (PDP) ruled with impunity.”

He asked other PDP members to also become “born again, remorse and repentant.

We must meet the expectations of the people. It is not about changing from one party to another. It is about changing our heart. It is about changing our attitudes. Let us sit down and reflect on the bad leadership that we have given to Nigerians these past years and change. Nigeria is supposed to lead Africa but we have failed.”

  • We must exhibit love, forgiveness as Christ did – Ooni of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has admonished Christians to exhibit love, forgiveness and peaceful co-existence among each other at all times as Christ did.

The traditional ruler described Jesus Christ as the Lord of peace and love with an unparalleled forgiving spirit who should always be remembered and honoured with the existence of love and peace by Christians.

According to him, that was the only way harmonious co-existence can be achieved not only within the ranks of his followers but also among the members of the larger global society for whom Jesus lived and died over 2000 years ago.

The traditional ruler said this on December 25 (Christmas Day).

In a statement signed by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Comrade Moses Olafare, the Ooni wished all Christians in Nigeria and across the globe a merry Christmas.

He charged religious leaders to always lead by example by not just preaching but always act like Jesus if their followers should take them seriously.

The statement reads: “People of the world must see themselves as one before the God Almighty and must treat one another with forgiveness, peace and love as symbolized by Jesus Christ if the world must be a conducive place for everyone to survive.

“There is no greater gift and honour you can give to Jesus Christ other than exhibition of forgiving spirit, display of love and ensurance of absolute peace because these are what the lord Jesus symbolizes.

“We all must see ourselves as equal before the almighty God who purposefully created us with different cultural backgrounds.

“The surest way of achieving the much needed global harmony is when we always imbibe the spirit of forgiveness and extend hand of love and peace to one another, with this Jesus Christ will be happy in heaven.

“God will always smile to us and of course the world will become a better place for all of us to dwell happily,” the statement added.
