I ignore sack talk – Frank Lampard

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says he’ll select a line-up to beat FA Cup opponents Luton Town.

Lampard, whose Chelsea side have lost three and won just one of their past five Premier League games, says he is only focused on getting past Championship side Luton Town in the FA Cup.

“We lost our last game, we won the one before that and we want to every game,” he told reporters.

“I’ll pick a team to try to get through to the next round.”

On his job future, Lampard also said: “I don’t listen to it. I don’t scroll social media. I am not stupid because I know the pressure with managing in a top job but the talk doesn’t matter to me.”

Frank Lampard ‘has dream to coach Barcelona’

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has ambitions of coaching La Liga side Barcelona.

That’s according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, when speaking on the Onze programme.

“His dream is to train in LaLiga and do what he couldn’t do as a player,” said Balague.

“He would like to sit on the bench at the Camp Nou and coach Barça.”

Balagué also recalled that Lampard was already close to signing for Barça in 2005.

Lampard has a good brain for football – Avram Grant

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant is convinced by the quality of manager Frank Lampard.

Grant believes Lampard is set to achieve big things.

He told The National: “Frank will be a very good manager – now he is a good manager – but with experience because he’s an intelligent guy.

“He has a good brain for football, he knows the game and he’s played under a lot of coaches, [and] each one gave him a different perspective.

“Even though people say he is young, he didn’t start immediately in Chelsea – he with Derby for a year. He did a good job and last year, with the transfer ban, it was a good experience for him.

“You see the results now, what Chelsea have done this year. They did a very good job in the transfer window, and no doubt they will fight for the championship. I’m sure of this.”

EPL: I’m enjoying Timo Werner – Lampard

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is delighted with the form of Timo Werner.

Lampard picked out Werner’s record of eight goals in 12 appearances as particularly satisfying.

“I’m really pleased with Timo because when you make a big move, everybody expects you to come in and hit the ground running,” said the boss to chelseafc.com.

“They expect him to know every pass that they [his team-mates] want to make and them to know every run he wants to make. It doesn’t work that simply so there’s always a period where you’re striving on those levels.

“For Timo to produce those numbers and have the impact he’s had so far shows the quality levels of him. He’s very easy to manage, I’m enjoying it and I think he’s going to get even better for us.”

EPL: Good to beat Chelsea now, says Klopp

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp played down the significance of their 2-0 win at Chelsea.

However, he admits they caught Chelsea at the right time with the new-look team yet to gel.

He said, “I liked the performance a lot. We are not playing for two things: three points and showing everybody ‘you better be ready when we arrive’ or whatever. That is not us. The next game will be incredibly difficult immediately for their own reasons because Arsenal are obviously flying for a few months already.

“It will be really tough, but for ourselves, if we feel the way we play with adaptations, with improvements, with developments, it made us successful and will make us successful if we really throw it consistently onto the pitch. So, a Chelsea game away will be for the next 500 years one of the most difficult games you can ever play – and it will become even more difficult now when for Chelsea all of the things settle. That’s clear. For today, it was difficult enough for us but we did it and I am happy about that.”

Thiago Silva needs oxygen mask to perform at Chelsea – Burley

Chelsea look like being an adventurous outfit again in 2020-21, with Craig Burley claiming that “Thiago Silva is going to need an oxygen mask” after joining a side loaded with attacking talent.

The Blues favoured an attacking approach during Frank Lampard’s first campaign at the helm.

As a goal-scoring midfielder in his playing days, the Stamford Bridge legend is eager to see his team on the front foot.

Brazil international Silva, whose vast experience looks like being put to good use, could have plenty to do during his debut season in England, with the former Paris Saint-Germain star being asked to provide a sense of calm amid the chaos.

“Thiago Silva is going to need an oxygen mask because there is only N’Golo Kante in there who has got any defensive qualities,” Burley told ESPN FC when drawing up a potential Blues XI.

“That’s going to be the difficulty for Lampard, striking the balance.

Lampard puts 10 Chelsea players up for sale

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has put ten of his first teamers on the transfer list.

Sky Sports says fringe stars Victor Moses, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi hardly got a look-in this year and they will be the first out of the door.

Chelsea conceded more goals than any other side in the top 10 of the Premier League this campaign so defensive trio Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christiansen are also up for sale.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has had a turbulent two years since his world record £71.6million switch from Athletic Bilbao.

Midfielder Jorginho is attracting interest from Serie A sides Juventus and Inter Milan and Chelsea are open to offers.

Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have been in and out of the team this year but it is the latter who will be moved on.

Liverpool not arrogant, you need to learn – Klopp tells Lampard

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has snapped back at Chelsea rival Frank Lampard after Wednesday’s blow-up at Anfield.

Footage emerged which shows the moment the Chelsea boss lost his cool and exploded into a heated, foul-mouthed argument with Klopp and the Liverpool bench, repeatedly telling his counterpart to “f*** off”.

“We are not arrogant. We are pretty much the opposite,” Klopp said on Friday.

“Frank was in a competitive mood, I respect that a lot. For me after the game it’s over. What Frank has to learn is to finish it with the last whistle.

“Speaking about it after that is not okay. During the game, words used ok, But final whistle, close the book. He didn’t do that and I don’t like that.

“From my point of view you can say what you want, it’s after the game it’s completely over. I’ve said a lot in the past.

“He came here to win the game to make Chelsea qualify for Champions League. I respect that a lot, what he has to learn to finish it with the last whistle. He didn’t do that.”

EPL: Don’t get arrogant, Lampard warns Liverpool

Frank Lampard sent a warning to Liverpool after Wednesday’s eight-goal thriller at Anfield.

The Reds won 5-3 on a special night in which they lifted the Premier League trophy for the first time in 30 years.

Lampard exchanged words with Liverpool’s bench after Trent Alexander-Arnoldmade it 2-0 with a terrific free-kick.

And the Englishman says his counterparts shouldn’t get ‘arrogant’ about their title victory.

“For me it wasn’t a foul from Kovacic,” he said. “And there were a lot of things that were ongoing.

“And on the bench, I’ve got no problem with Jurgen Klopp; he’s managed this team and it’s fantastic. [But] some of the bench, there’s a fine line between when you’re winning — and they’ve won the league, fair play to Liverpool Football Club — but also don’t get too arrogant with it.

“That was my thing. But done. That’s it. In match play you get emotional, and that was it.”

  • Solskjaer hits back at Lampard over VAR narrative

Solskjaer hits back at Lampard over VAR narrative

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at Frank Lampard after his Chelsea counterpart suggested Video Assistant Referees (VAR) have favoured them this season.

Lampard said Manchester United benefited from contentious VAR decisions and poor on-pitch decisions.

He commenting on how a “clear and obvious decision” went their way on Thursday when Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha was fouled but no penalty kick was awarded.

Ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, Solskjaer suggested Manchester United have also been unlucky with decisions.

“I can sit here for hours now and try to talk about this. It looks like there’s a narrative. It looks like people want to influence whoever is making the decisions,” the Norwegian told reporters on Saturday.

“I hear people talking about luck, that we’ve been lucky more than unlucky. If you look at the factual decisions —- I don’t want to sound like a certain manager talking about facts —- but if you’re offside, you’re offside. That’s clear.”

Solskjaer listed incidents in which he felt Manchester United were hard done by, describing how a late penalty kick against Tottenham Hotspur was overturned.

He also recalled how Southampton’s Oriol Romeu and West Ham’s Mark Noble should have been sent off for rash tackles.

“So, it’s actually me that should be complaining that we get decisions against us on the pitch by the on-pitch referee,” Solskjaer added.

`There’s a narrative there, but we have to focus on our games. We let other people talk about that. I don’t want to go too much into it because I might be in trouble.

“I’m pretty relaxed on these and referees are going to be making objective decisions and are not going to be influenced by any emotion in any way.”

Left-back Luke Shaw will miss the semi-final and his replacement Brandon Williams is also doubtful after suffering a facial injury against Southampton on Monday.
