  • Frank Lampard claim first win as Chelsea boss

Frank Lampard won his first game as Chelsea manager as they beat St Patrick’s Athletic 4-0 in a pre-season friendly in Dublin.

Mason Mount ran on to Mateo Kovacic’s pass to open the scoring before Emerson Palmieri netted from outside the box.
Olivier Giroud, one of 11 half-time changes, turned home Kenedy’s cross and added a late fourth.
The Blues drew 1-1 with Bohemians, another Dublin side, in Lampard’s first game in charge on Wednesday.
Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley hit the woodwork for Chelsea against St Patrick’s Athletic.
Eric Molloy, who scored the equaliser for Bohemians, came on as a second-half substitute for St Patrick’s Athletic, for whom he is on trial.
Lampard, who spent 13 years as a player at Chelsea, left Derby to replace Maurizio Sarri as Blues manager this month.

  • Lampard sends eight players out of Chelsea camp

Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard has sent eight players out of their training camp in Dublin.
The players have returned to London, according to the club’s official website.
The players are “Marc Guehi, Trevoh Chalobah, Dujon Stering, Conor Gallagher, Lewis Baker, Lucas Piazon, Izzy Brown and Ike Ugbo.”
The eight of them are likely to either be shipped out on loan or sold on a permanent basis.
Before their return to London, the former Derby County manager ensured that he had an opportunity to assess everyone on Chelsea’s books who was available to report for pre-season training and travel to Dublin for their clash with Bohemians.
“However, the gaffer could not have kept all of them around for the season ahead, and has wasted no time cutting out those who he doesn’t feel will have a role to play in the season ahead,” the statement added.

  • Frank Lampard denied winning start as Chelsea boss

Frank Lampard was denied victory in his first game as Chelsea boss by a late equaliser from Irish side Bohemians.

Striker Michy Batshuayi gave the Blues an eighth-minute lead, firing in after Kenedy’s shot had been saved.
But in the final minute of the friendly, trialist Eric Molloy lashed in a leveller for Bohemians.
Chelsea all-time record goalscorer Lampard, who succeeded Maurizio Sarri as manager last week, selected separate XIs for each half in Dublin.
Each Blues XI featured a mixture of experience and youth, with the likes of senior internationals Batshuayi, Danny Drinkwater, Cesar Azpilicueta and Pedro lining up alongside teenagers Marc Guehi, Dujon Sterling and Conor Gallagher in the first half.
After the break, there was run-outs for a number of players who spent last season on loan away from the club, including defender Kurt Zouma and midfielders Tiemoue Bakayoko, Lewis Baker and Izzy Brown.
Lampard was appointed Chelsea boss on a three-year deal last Thursday after leading Derby to the Championship play-off final, where they lost to Aston Villa, in his first season as a manager.
The former England international, who made 648 Chelsea appearances and scored 211 times as he won 11 major trophies with them as a player, succeeded Sarri, who left Stamford Bridge in June to take charge of Italian champions Juventus.

  • BREAKING: Chelsea appoint Frank Lampard as manager

Chelsea have appointed former midfielder Frank Lampard as their manager on a three-year deal.

Lampard, 41, has left Championship side Derby County to take over at a club where he spent 13 years as a player.
He succeeds Maurizio Sarri, who left Stamford Bridge in June to take charge of Italian champions Juventus.
Lampard led Derby to the Championship play-off final, where they lost to Aston Villa, in his first season as a manager.
The former England international made 648 Chelsea appearances, winning 11 major trophies with them.
He takes over with Chelsea under a transfer embargo after the club were given a two-window transfer ban by world governing body Fifa – a decision they are appealing against at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach,” said Lampard.
“Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared. However, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead.
“I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started.”
The appointment comes nine days after Derby gave Lampard permission to talk to Chelsea and 18 days after Sarri left Stamford Bridge.
Lampard is the 10th full-time manager appointed by Roman Abramovich since he bought the club in 2003.

  • Lampard excused from Derby training for Chelsea talks

Lampard excused from Derby training for Chelsea talks

Derby have excused boss Frank Lampard from reporting for pre-season training duties, with the club expecting him to be offered the Chelsea manager’s job.

Lampard will not be at training on Monday or Tuesday as talks continue with the Blues, where he spent 13 years as a player.
Derby made the decision so the move can be “concluded as soon as possible”.
If Lampard leaves, the Championship side expect to have a replacement confirmed by the end of the week.
Rams assistant manager Jody Morris will also be absent from training.
It is widely assumed Morris will move to Chelsea with Lampard, should the former England midfielder be given the manager’s job and succeed Maurizio Sarri, who lefgt Stamford Bridge to take over at Juventus last month.
Derby’s players will largely be doing fitness tests over the next couple of days, so the club feel they can operate without anyone in overall charge.
The squad are due to fly to Florida for a training camp on Thursday.
A Derby statement released on Monday said: “The first few days of pre-season training will be focused on fitness training and will continue as planned under the guidance of the fitness, medical, conditioning and sports science teams at the club’s Training Centre.”
Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry, now assistant manager at Aston Villa, said there is “no-one better equipped” to manage the west London club than his former team-mate.
Lampard made 648 appearances for the Blues, winning 11 major trophies with them, after joining from boyhood club West Ham for a fee of £11m in 2001.

  • Lampard best equipped to succeed at Chelsea – Terry

Lampard best equipped to succeed at Chelsea – Terry

Frank Lampard is “better equipped” than any other prospective candidate to succeed at Chelsea should the club hire him as manager, says former team-mate John Terry.

The Derby County boss is in talks to to take over the vacant position at Stamford Bridge, reuniting with the club where he made his name as one of the best midfielders of his generation.

Former Blues coach Maurizio Sarri was allowed to leave after just one year in order to take charge of Juventus in his home country, leaving the Premier League outfit looking for a replacement.

If Lampard were to take the reins, he would be expected to at the very least match the success enjoyed under Sarri, including a top four finish and a Europa League crown, while contending with a transfer embargo.

Terry, who will feature in the top flight next season as assistant to Dean Smith with newly-promoted Aston Villa after they beat Derby in the Championship play-off final, feels that his old friend is the right man for the job, implying that the 41-year-old would thrive in the pressure that the position would bring.

“After the season he has had with Derby and with Chelsea’s transfer ban in place, there is no-one better equipped than Frank to succeed at Chelsea,” the 38-year-old was quoted in the Daily Mail. “It is perfect timing for him and the club.

“Frank was under pressure to succeed at Chelsea the day he arrived from West Ham and he never hid from that. He revelled in it and went on to become Chelsea’s greatest-ever player. He is just as exacting on himself now as a manager.

The former defender added that he did not feel there would be backlash from fans in hiring Lampard, who has only his loan season with Derby under his belt in terms of experience.

“I don’t believe there will be any trepidation from supporters,” he added. “They love him. [He] is a legend and now is the right time for him to come home.

“He would welcome that responsibility to make Chelsea more competitive. He has the tactical knowledge, enthusiasm and will have the backing of the players and fans to prove what he can do.”

The London outfit will hope to confirm their new manager within the coming weeks, particularly ahead of their pre-season trip to Asia, when they will face La Liga champions Barcelona.

Lampard’s wife bans him from naming unborn child after football legends

Christine Lampard, 39, wife of former footballer, Frank Lampard has banned her husband from naming their unborn child after any football legend.

Mrs Lampard has revealed she is leaving the name of her unborn baby in her step-daughters’ hands and has already ruled out the possibility of calling their little one after a footballer, despite her sport star spouse’s wishes, reports Daily Mail.

The TV presenter, who is keeping the sex of her baby a surprise – admitted the family have discussed possible names but are yet to decide on one.

Speaking to the Daily Star about how the name search was going, she confessed: “Calling him or her after any footballer is definitely off the agenda. I’ve warned Frank. We had a few discussions and it won’t be happening.”

Christine revealed her step-daughters Luna, 12, and Isla, 10, have already been flicking through the baby books and have made some suggestions.

Asked if there was already a name in mind, she dished: “Not really, well, sort of. We kind of have, the girls have, but nothing is definite at all.”

  • Former Chelsea midfielder Lampard named Derby County manager

Frank Lampard says his new job as Derby County manager “won’t be easy” but that it presents a “huge opportunity” after joining the Rams on a three-year deal.

Lampard, taking on his first managerial role, was one of 20 applicants for the job and becomes Derby’s seventh appointment in just over three years.

The 39-year-old ex-Chelsea and England midfielder said he spent “considerable time” discussing the role.

He replaces Gary Rowett after he left to join fellow Championship side Stoke.

Lampard is set to be unveiled to the media at a news conference at 14:00 BST on Thursday – which you can watch live on the BBC Sport website.

“I’ve always wanted to manage a club with a big tradition and history like Derby County, so this is a huge opportunity,” said Lampard.

“I have spent considerable time discussing the role and the club’s objectives with the chairman and board members.

“This is my first job as a manager, but I’ve worked closely with some of the best coaches in the game and I’m confident in my own abilities and those of the team around me, including the board.

“I know it won’t be easy – managing a football team never is – but I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Lampard, capped 106 times by England, made 649 appearances for Chelsea and is the club’s record goalscorer.

Derby finished sixth in the second tier last season but lost in the play-off semi-finals to Fulham and have been without a manager since Rowett’s departure on 22 May.

Chelsea youth team coach Jody Morris, a former Blues team-mate of Lampard’s, is expected to join the Rams’ coaching staff.

  • Frank Lampard Reveals Aguero Comes Late toTraining

Frank Lampard has opened up about his brief spell at Manchester City by revealing star man Sergio Aguero would turn up late to training on a regular basis.

The Chelsea legend, who played for City during the 2014-15 season, has said Aguero used to be fined for his poor timekeeping skills but wouldn’t care about the subsequent fine.

Lampard, speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM show alongside John Terry, said when asked who picked up the most fines at Chelsea: ‘At Chelsea I can’t remember but I will jump to Manchester City.

‘Aguero picked up a fair few. He just didn’t care. He was so laid back and would just stroll out to the training pitch like five minutes late.

‘”[The coaches would say] right you’re fined” and he would say “OK, no problem. Wait until the weekend and I’ll score a hat-trick and everyone will be happy”.’

Both Lampard and Terry also opened up on who their favourite managers have been at Chelsea during their respective lengthy spells at the club and they both put Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti’s names forward.

‘Jose’s sessions when he first came to Chelsea were such an eye opener for all of us because he was so forward thinking and it was all the ball but before that it was about running,’ insists Lampard.

‘With Jose it was ball work from the start of the season. I used to love training under Ancelotti as he was such a good people person. He made you feel good every day. They were the two standout managers on that front.’

And Terry added: ‘I would say the same. Mourinho, for the technical sessions and the flow of it. It kind of went one into another and it would kind of progress.

‘It was like an hour of work but you wouldn’t rest in that hour. He does it all and controls everything. He gets his staff to feed the balls in and if one of them puts a dodgy ball in he will go mad. He’ll stop the session and go mad at his staff.

‘He raised the whole thing because of the levels he wants from everyone.’

Terry, despite returning to first team training, will miss Chelsea’s Boxing Day clash with Bournemouth as he focuses on getting back to full fitness.

The Chelsea captain will be joined in the stands by the suspended Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante.
