Premier League striker arrested after training ground burst-up

Premier League side, Fulham suspends striker Aboubakar Kamara over arrest on suspicion of actual bodily harm following allegations of a fight at the club’s Motspur Park training ground.

Kamara, 23, joined from Amiens in 2017.

A Fulham statement added: “The club is grateful for the swift attention and action by the Metropolitan Police.”

It continued: “We will refrain from further comment but stress that we will fully cooperate with any new or continuing investigation or legal proceeding in the name of providing everyone a secure and safe working environment.”

Metropolitan Police said a man in his 20s was arrested at a training ground in New Malden on Monday and taken into custody in a south London police station.

Kamara, who reportedly had a falling out with Aleksandar Mitrovic during a squad yoga session, was said to be at the club training ground looking to resolve his future.

Earlier this season, boss Claudio Ranieri said he “wanted to kill” the forward after Kamara missed a penalty against Huddersfield having refused to give the ball to designated penalty-taker Mitrovic.

He has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season for Fulham, who are second from bottom in the Premier League.

EPL: Winks earns Tottenham injury-time win at Fulham

Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri said his side are “alive and will continue to fight” despite losing to Tottenham through Harry Winks’ injury-time header at Craven Cottage.

Spurs, who had already lost Dele Alli to a hamstring injury, looked set to concede further ground on league leaders Liverpool but Winks stooped low in the 93rd minute to head past Sergio Rico from close range.

“It was a bad moment for us,” said Ranieri, whose side are 19th and seven points from safety.

“The performance was fantastic, but we lost the match through experience, that’s it. At the end we took a free-kick into the box. Why? We should have taken the ball into the corner.

“We played well and sooner or later we will find our way. We have to continue to believe. Now we have to stay together and I hope other players arrive to help us.”

Winks’ last-gasp winner means third-placed Spurs have a seven-point cushion over Arsenal in fifth in the battle for Champions League places.

“Sometimes in football, it is not tactics or formation – you have to believe,” said manager Mauricio Pochettino.

“It was an unbelievable finish. That’s why it is so important to believe.”

Fulham had nine shots on goal in an impressive first half and took a deserved lead when Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente scored an own goal.

The Spaniard, making his first Premier League start of the season in place of the injured Harry Kane, inadvertently beat Hugo Lloris from close range while attempting to clear the danger inside his own six-yard box after a Jean Michael Seri corner.

The hosts thought they had doubled their lead five minutes before the interval but Aleksandar Mitrovic’s header was ruled out as the Serbian was adjudged to be offside.

However, Spurs responded in the second period and they drew level six minutes after the interval when Dele Alli ghosted in behind the Fulham defence to head a pin-point Christian Eriksen cross past Rico.

And Winks completed the turnaround in stoppage time when he met substitute Georges-Kevin Nkoudou’s cross to break Fulham’s resistance.

  • EPL: Fulham sign Dutch winger Ryan Babel from Besiktas

EPL: Fulham sign Dutch winger Ryan Babel from Besiktas

Fulham have signed former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel from Turkish side Besiktas.

According to BBC, the 32-year-old Dutch international, who spent three and a half years at Anfield, has joined the club until the end of the season.

Fulham are 19th in the Premier League and five points from safety.

“I definitely have faith that Fulham can stay up,” said Babel, who has scored six goals this season. “That’s one of the reasons that I’m here.”

Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan added: “Ryan has excelled at playing attacking football on both the club and international stage, and we welcome that experience as we build our squad for a strong second-half push.

“Claudio [Ranieri] and I are confident that Ryan’s return to the Premier League here will be every bit as good for him as his addition will be good for our squad.”

After leaving Liverpool in 2007, Babel had spells at Hoffenheim, Ajax, Turkish side Kasımpasa, Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates and Deportivo de La Coruna, before arriving at Besiktas in 2017.

He has won 54 caps for the Netherlands, scoring eight goals, the most recent of which came against France in the Nations League in September.

Babel was also part of the Dutch squad that lost in the final of the 2010 World Cup.

  • Fulham sunk by two own goals at Burnley, Cardiff fire blank against Huddersfield

Fulham sunk by two own goals at Burnley, Cardiff fire blank against Huddersfield

Burnley beat Fulham 2-1 at Turf Moor on Saturday thanks to two own goals to make it three straight league wins for Sean Dyche’s side.

The defeat leaves deep in relegation danger Fulham, who are without an away win this season.

German international Andre Schurrle put them ahead in brilliant fashion in the second minute, bringing down a long ball from Denis Odoi and blasting past Tom Heaton.

Burnley got back on level terms though in the 20th minute when Jeff Hendrick’s low drive was turned into his own net by Fulham defender Joe Bryan.

Three minutes later and Hendrick had forced another own goal — his drive headed in by Odoi to put the Clarets 2-1 up.

Burnley defender James Tarkowski had to clear a Luciano Vietto drive off the line shortly after the interval.

Fulham had most of the pressure after the break without creating many clear-cut chances.

Burnley did not have a shot on target in the game but move up to 15th place with the win.

Fulham are next to bottom on 14 points, five points from safety.

Elsewhere, bottom club Huddersfield Town ended their eight-match losing streak in the EPL with a goalless draw at fellow strugglers Cardiff City on Saturday.

Cardiff, in 17th place, did not manage a shot on target and Huddersfield were left fuming over a decision from referee Lee Mason.

Mason pointed to the penalty kick spot, when Florent Hadergjonaj went down under challenge from Joe Bennett, but changed his mind after consulting his assistant.

Huddersfield had lost their previous six games at Cardiff in all competitions but, after having the better of Saturday’s match, will be disappointed not to have picked up all three points.

The Terriers had 61 percent of possession and Jason Puncheon and Steve Mounie both went close to a breakthrough.

The Yorkshire club remain bottom on 11 points, eight points away from safety.

  • Arsenal, Fulham in race to sign Chelsea star in January

Arsenal and Fulham are in the race to sign Chelsea outcast Gary Cahill from the West London side during the January transfer window.

Fulham are looking to make reinforcements to their side as they seek to stay away from the drop.

The Blues are ready to sell Cahill, 32, as he has fallen down the club’s pecking order under manager Maurizio Sarri.

His contract runs out at the end of the campaign and Fulham want to lure him to the Craven Cottage in January on either a permanent or loan deal.

Ranieri sees the former England star’s experience as a potentially crucial element in his team’s fight against relegation.

But the Cottagers have to battle both West Ham United and Southampton for the player’s signature.

  • Fulham sack Jokanovic as manager, appoints Claudio Ranieri

Fulham have sacked manager Slavisa Jokanovic and replaced him with Claudio Ranieri, who guided Leicester to the Premier League title in 2016.

Jokanovic makes way with the Cottagers sitting bottom of the Premier League table with five points from 12 matches.

Italian Ranieri, 67, has been given a “multi-year” contract by the Londoners.

“Making a change without having the right answer or succession plan was not an option,” said Fulham chairman Shahid Khan.

“So having someone of Claudio’s calibre ready to accept our challenge was comforting but, most of all, essential.

“Claudio is risk-free and ready-made for the Premier League, and particularly so for what we need at this moment at Fulham.

“His recent body of work with Leicester City is literally legendary, and then you look at Claudio’s experience with Chelsea and big clubs throughout Europe, and it’s pretty evident we are welcoming an extraordinary football man to Fulham Football Club.”

  • Arsenal run riot over Fulham in 6 goals thriller

Two goals from Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette and two more from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Arsenal a 5-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Sunday.
There was also a wonderful back-heeled strike from Aaron Ramsey in between.
Fulham pressed forward in the opening minutes as they looked for their first win over Arsenal since January 2012.
And Argentine midfielder Luciano Vietto very nearly beat Gunners keeper Bernd Leno in the second minute.
Fulham’s powerful Serbian forward Aleksandar Mitrovic also had a number of half-chances but was unable to get any clear shots in on goal.
Perhaps his best attempt was a thumped volley over the bar from outside the area.
Against the run of play, Lacazette opened the scoring in the 29th minute for Arsenal.
The Frenchman collected a pass from Nacho Monreal, spinning round past defender Tim Ream and rifling the ball low into the corner of the net from close range.
Fulham’s Andre Schurrle levelled the score just before the break, chipping calmly over Leno for his third league goal since joining the Cottagers in the summer on loan from Borussia Dortmund.
But the visitors ran rampant in the second half, with three unanswered goals.
Lacazette scored his fourth league goal of the season before substitute Ramsey back-heeled in an exquisite third for the Gunners after a pass across the area from Aubameyang.
The Gabonese striker then took the game away from the home side with two more goals that left Fulham with the worst defensive record in the league by a distance.
They have now let in four more goals than any other team.
“We don’t show the Premier League level, and this is our situation,” Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic told reporters.
“Today we tried, we offered some positive signs, but it’s not enough.”
The loss leaves the Cottagers on the edge of the relegation zone in 17th place.
Arsenal, on the other hand, move up to third above Tottenham on goals scored and ahead of Chelsea who play at Southampton later on Sunday.

  • Fulham close to signing Chambers on loan from Arsenal

Fulham close to signing Chambers on loan from Arsenal

Fulham are close to completing the signing of Arsenal defender Calum Chambers on a season-long loan deal.

An agreement has been reached between the clubs, but personal terms still need to be finalised.

The 23-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2014, signed a new four-year contract last month.

However, the club and player are keen for him to gain regular Premier League playing time, which is not guaranteed at Arsenal this season.

It follows the signing of defender Alfie Mawson from Swansea in a deal that could cost up to £20m and the arrival of Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic for a reported £22m last week.

The Cottagers have also signed Spanish goalkeeper Fabri from Besiktas and German forward Andre Schurrle on loan from Borussia Dortmund, as well as Ivory Coast midfielder Jean Michael Seri and French defender Maxime le Marchand from Nice.

Chambers played 12 times in the Premier League for Arsenal last season, with the Gunners adding defenders Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephan Lichtsteiner to their squad this summer.

  • Landslide kills woman, seven children

    Landslide kills woman, seven children

A landslide killed a woman and at least seven children in Nepal over the weekend as officials issued warnings on Monday of the risk of more landslides and flash floods due to torrential rain.

Working in the downpour, rescuers in Bheri town, about 310 kilometers (193 miles) west of capital Kathmandu, were still searching for a missing boy, having pulled out one survivor.

“Army and police personnel are digging with shovels through mud for a 12-year-old boy, who is missing,” Krishna Khatiwada, a senior government official in Bheri, said.

The dead children were aged between three and eleven years.

Flash floods and landslides in the June-September monsoon season are common in mostly mountainous

Nepal is home to eight of the world’s 14 highest mountains, including Mount Everest.

Samir Shrestha, an official at the weather forecasting office in Kathmandu, said more landslides and flash floods were likely as heavy rains were forecast for hilly areas in central and western Nepal through on Tuesday.

Residents in Terai, the southern low lying region bordering India, had been warned to beware of floods as water levels were rising in many rivers, he said.
