“Don’t cry for my son” – Watch Pastor Adeboye’s message at son’s funeral

Pastor Dare Adeboye, late son of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was buried on Tuesday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Pastor Adeboye, during the farewell service for Dare, urged members of the church not to cry for the deceased.

“Cry if you wish but don’t cry for pastor Dee because he is resting in glory. Cry because you are the one still fighting the battle. Anyone who has caught a glimpse of heaven will not be crying for pastor Dee because there is no comparison between heaven and earth. But then fight courageously because, on the resurrection morning, we shall meet again.

“I want you to know that God who knows the end from the beginning knew long before the foundations of the world that what has happened was going to happen. And because his word is forever settled, he said all things work together for good to them that love God. We may not understand now, but what has happened is going to work out for our good.

“In one of his sermons, Dare himself said God does not need a visa to pay you a visit or to do whatever he wants to do in your life.

“And I have told you before, death is not a function of age. Young people die, old people die, children die. And it is not about how long you live it is how well. Even Jesus Christ himself died at the age of 33. John the Baptist never lived to be 34 and yet he was the greatest.

“We have lost a champion. You would agree with me on that. Let us consider him a seed that we have sown and let’s get ready for a special harvest. I want us to join our forces together and produce many champions like Damilare that would go round the whole world and shake the world for the Lord Jesus. That is how we can honour his memory,” Pastor Adeboye said.

Watch Pastor Adeboye’s message at son’s burial below:

TNG reports the farewell service was held at the Youth Centre, Redemption Camp, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In attendance at the farewell service were Dare’s wife, Temiloluwa; his three daughters; his brother, Leke Adeboye, and other siblings.

Also, the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide aka Winners’ Chapel, David Oyedepo; his wife, Faith; as well as his son, Pastor David Oyedepo Jr. attended the farewell service.

COVID-19: Bayelsa Govt lifts ban on funerals to decongest mortuaries

Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa on Thursday lifted the ban on funerals with stringent COVID-19 protocols as a measure to decongest mortuaries in the state.

Diri had in an Executive Order aimed at containing the spread of the Coronavirus, outlawed social activities like marriages, burials and social gatherings.

Diri who announced the approval on Thursday during a meeting of the Bayelsa COVID-19 Task Force which he chaired, directed the mortuaries to get an undertaking from residents to comply with the COVID-19 protocols.

According to the governor, such burials must be conducted without attracting crowds and devoid of receptions, adding that those who insist on conducting burials the usual way should wait till the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

“The approval is subject to obtaining of guarantees and undertaking from families willing to bury relatives to ensure strict compliance with protocols for COVID-19 prevention, avoiding crowd and observing social distancing.

“Anyone who insists on conducting burials with overnight and daylight parties with ‘Owoigiri Dances’ should wait until the Coronovirus leaves us,” Diri said

The approval was sequel to requests by public medical institutions in the state to the government to avert a crisis situation.

Dr Alawode Kehinde, a Consultant Pathologist, Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa had in an interview with NAN, appealed to the Bayelsa government to lift the restriction on burials as the mortuary was filled to capacity.

Kehinde said that the hospital had written to Gov. Diri to relax the restriction on burials to allow people to evacuate corpses.

According to him, if the request is granted, such burials will be done under strict compliance to social distancing and other COVID-19 prevention protocols.

He said that the morgue could no longer admit new corpses in the past week, reached its full capacity following the executive order restraining burials to check the spread of the Coronavirus in the state.

He also said that when heavy rains set in, it would be extremely difficult for burials given the swampy topography of the state.

Kehinde, however, allayed the fears of mass burial of corpses in the FMC Morgue, adding that the hospital was aware of the present circumstances faced by the people as a result of COVID-19.

He said for those who were supposed to have evacuated corpses but were unable to, due to the restraining order, might get a concessionary discount on payable fee.

  • Pastor dies while conducting member’s funeral in Ondo

Pastor dies while conducting member’s funeral in Ondo

A Pastor of the Mount Zion Church in the Oke-Aro area of Ondo State, Femi Olorunsoromidayo, has reportedly died while conducting a funeral service for the burial of a late member of the church.

It was learnt that the deceased pastor, aged 42, was the founder of Divine Mount Zion Gospel Ministry.

The pastor was said to have suddenly fallen ill and died during the burial service of a 78-year-old church member, Mr. Samuel Rotimi, at Erusu in Akoko North West Local Government Area, after receiving the corpse of the deceased from Akure for a funeral service.

A source said that the late Rotimi had, before his death, instructed the cleric to ensure that he was buried at his residence in Akure, anytime he died as against his home town, Erusu-Akoko.

But after Rotimi’s death, the pastor reportedly acted against the wish of the deceased, an action which was said to have been supported by the deceased church members’ immediate family.

Also, the head of the deceased family at Erusu-Akoko was said to have instructed the pastor to move the burial plans to Erusu against the instructions left by Rotimi before his death.

A source said: “Since the late pastor, including his immediate family, had limited authority over the burial plans, he arranged for an ambulance which took the corpse to Erusu Akoko, alongside his family members and some church members.

“While the pastor was conducting the burial service at the cemetery, he started feeling uncomfortable after which he became unconscious before he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the Akoko area, where he was confirmed dead.”

It was learnt that the ambulance which conveyed the remains of the late church member to his home town in Erusu for burial, was also used to convey the corpse of the pastor back to Akure.

The development was said to have created confusion within the church and among family members of the late cleric.

  • My father’s funeral reminds me I wont be here forever- Teni

My father’s funeral reminds me I wont be here forever- Teni

Truth be told, Teni Nigeria’s celebrated songstress is not your usual Nigerian female artiste.

The ‘Uyo meyo’ singer doesn’t fit into the mould of what music pundits and showbiz analysts expect her to be.

Teni who is unperturbed by what naysayers say has stated that she is not moved by people who condemn her for her looks, citing the example of a popular journalist who stated in his podcast that she does not have ‘the look’ of a sexy female pop star.

In her reaction, she said: “That is his opinion. How can I judge a man for his opinion? Hey, this man is not going to kill me, he’s just saying what he thinks about you and is that a crime?” , Teni told Native Magazine.

Teni who is the daughter of Late Brigadier -General, S. O. Apata, who was assassinated on January 8, 1995 revealed that she watches her father’s funeral to remind herself that she wont be here forever.

“I always watch my father’s funeral. It reminds me I won’t be here forever. I need to make sure that every day is productive. I have to follow my dreams and live my life to the fullest by my own terms and in my own way. Not what Joey or my mum wants me to do, but what Teni wants to do. My father was a fearless man; a man that used to chase armed robbers, very brave, a philanthropist. But he’s was laying there, breathless, and I’m like ‘fuck! That’s going to be me one day and I cannot escape this.’ I might as well just face my dreams squarely and say ‘you know what;? Teni is going to do what Teni wants to do regardless.”

  • Former Chief of Army Staff set for burial in hometown

Major General David Ejoor (rtd), who was former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), and who once served as Governor of Mid-Western State of Nigeria, has been slated for burial.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports Ejoor whose death occurred in February has been slated for burial in his hometown.

According to the funeral arrangements made available to TNG, two services of songs would hold in Lagos and Delta before body of the deceased is laid to rest.

Until his death, Major General Ejoor was the oldest and most senior Nigerian Military Officer alive.

He played significant roles in the era of military rule in Nigeria, and rose to the enviable height of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) between January 1971 and July 1975.

He was Governor of the former Mid-Western Region between January 1966 and August 1967, and the first Nigerian Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) between January 1969 and January 1971.

Born January 10th 1932 in Ovu, now in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Ejoor would be buried at his residence in Ovwor-Olomu, Ughelli South LGA of the State.

The burial will take place on Friday, the 3rd day of May, 2019 by 9:00 a.m. after a service of songs on Thursday, 2nd May at Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral, Warri/Sapele Road, Warri, Delta State at 4:00 p.m.

TNG reports the service of songs that would hold in Lagos, would take place on Monday, 29th April, 2019 at Havillah Events Centre, Plot 6, Chief Yesufu Abiodun Oniru Road, Dideolu Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos by 5:00 p.m.

Ejoor, who died February 10 at the age of 87, is a distinguished son of Urhobo, who attended Government College, Ughelli (GCU).

He is the first Urhobo man to join the Army, and was commissioned in 1953 as a Second-Lieutenant, with his army number as NA17, after Lieutenant-Colonel Victor Banjo (NA16).

He made history as one of the first Nigerian officer cadets to get Regular Commission into the Nigerian Army in the process of Nigerianising the officer corps in the early 1950s.

Ejoor graduated from the prestigious Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, UK, in 1956.

By the time Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, Ejoor had become a Captain and “had the historic fortune of commanding the Army Guard at the dawn of independence.”

This background perhaps explains Ejoor’s commitment to the unity of Nigeria.

Following his performance as a member of the United Nations Peace Keeping Force in the Congo from December 1960 to July 1961, he was promoted to the rank of Major.

He was credited with “designing the Nigerian Army cap, badge and rank insignias.”

Nigeria’s first military coup on January 15, 1966, was a defining juncture in Ejoor’s career.

He became an accidental political administrator.

He was a Lieutenant-Colonel and Commander of the Army Battalion in Enugu at the time and helped to foil the coup.

Ejoor was appointed Military Governor of the then Midwest Region, following the failure of the coup and the collapse of the civilian government.

His position made him a member of the Supreme Military Council (SMC), the country’s highest ruling body.

The counter-coup of July 1966, which culminated in the Nigerian Civil War, 1967 – 1970, highlighted Ejoor’s vulnerability as a member of an ethnic minority.

The July coup was a retaliatory rebellion led by Northern soldiers, mainly of Hausa/Fulani origin, largely against Igbo officers from the then Eastern Region.

The Midwest Region, governed by Ejoor, had a substantial Igbo population, and was targeted by Igbo separatists in the crisis.

Ejoor reportedly survived three assassination attempts by Igbo officers.

Ejoor, a fervent federalist, fled from his base in Benin, the capital of the Midwest Region, following an invasion by the secessionist army.

Ejoor’s escape from Benin spawned various narratives.

He is said to have rode a bicycle to Ebor-Orogun and eventually appeared in Lagos, the then federal capital – some accounts say he disguised as a woman.

His escape illustrated the dangerous situation as well as his own ingenuity.

In wartime, Ejoor became a director at the Army Headquarters.

He was involved in getting France, America and India to support the Federal Government during the war.

He became a general in 1971, and attended the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK.

His rise to the position of COAS was testimony to his professional orientation.

Reorganising the army after a divisive war required a sense of professionalism, and Ejoor is believed to have done well in restructuring the Nigerian Army.

It is striking that Ejoor’s military career came to an abrupt end when he was just 43, following the ouster of the then Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, by a coup in 1975.

Interestingly, Gowon had been his junior at Sandhurst but became his boss as a result of ethnic politics.

Ejoor subsequently became President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union, which showed his cultural side.

In 1982, President Shehu Shagari invited Ejoor to draft a defence policy for Nigeria, an indication of the respect he enjoyed as a retired top military man.

He earned two Nigerian national honours, Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

He was retired compulsorily by General Murtala Mohammed, after the latter had become Head-of-State, with the rank of Major General on July 29, 1975.

The interment of Ejoor would hold immediately after the burial service at his residence in Ovwor-Olomu, Ughelli South LGA, and reception, after burial at his residence in Ovwor-Olomu, Ughelli South LGA.
