  • EPL: Arsenal sign Jesus for £45m to be highest paid

Departing Manchester City forward, Gabriel Jesus is about to  become the highest paid player at Arsenal.

The Brazilian’s £45million move to Arsenal is ‘100 percent done’.

The Brazil international has signed a five-year contract with Mikel Arteta’s side, ending his five-and-a-half years spell at Manchester City.

Also, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Jesus has agreed personal terms with the club.

Jesus has been a top transfer target for the Gunners so far this summer after the 25-year-old made it clear he wanted to remain in the Premier League..

The Manchester City forward could help solve a key issue that has plagued Mikel Arteta over the past season. The Gunners have been without a goal-scoring striker, something that has only been emphasised by the exit of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Jesus has played 159 times in the Premier League, scoring 58 goals and racking up 32 assists in the process.

Meanwhile Arsenal  have already brought in three new signings with American goalkeeper Matt Turner expected to be officially unveiled as a new Arsenal player shortly, joining Portuguese creative midfield player Fabio Vieira and teenage Brazilian winger Marquinhos through the door at the Emirates. The Gunners aren’t done there though, with moves for  Leeds United ace Raphinha also on the cards

EPL: I need a derby goal today – Jesus

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus is desperate to score in today’s derby at Manchester United.

The Brazilian forward has scored in big games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid but is yet to net against United.

“I think what’s missing is goal at a derby,” he told mancity.com.

“I hope to have again the opportunity to be part of it and try to score. I always try to.

“Sometimes I hit the post, others it was offside, but as I said, I hope it comes and when it does it well help my team-mates.”

Where I know my attacking can improve – Jesus

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus admits his game has much room for improvement.

The Brazil international concedes his positioning can be better in the opposition area.

Gabriel told Sky Sports: “I have to get more in the box, sometimes I do not get into the box, that’s why I do not score so many goals.

“If you see the best attackers right now, they all get into the box, some of them go outside the penalty area to create and then back into the penalty area.

“Not me, I think my football is – I go outside the penalty area, I create with my teammates and I wait for the goal. I have to put it in my head that when I enter the penalty area, then I do it to score goals.”

  • EPL: Jesus scores brace as City continue title chase

Gabriel Jesus scored twice as Manchester City got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a comfortable victory at Burnley.

City had won only once in their previous five games in all competitions to start the day 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.

But they were convincing at Turf Moor with Jesus curling home a fine opener for his first goal in 11 games.

The Brazilian then volleyed home Bernardo Silva’s cross after the break.

Midfielder Rodri added a sweet third from 20 yards and substitute Riyad Mahrez netted a fourth to take them back into second place in the league.

Robbie Brady blasted in a late consolation for the Clarets, his first Premier League goal in more than two years.

Leicester could move back above the champions if they get a point or more at home to Watford on Wednesday.

  • Jesus is an animal, says Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has hailed Gabriel Jesus as “an animal” after the Brazil striker expressed frustration at his number of first-team starts for Manchester City.

Jesus made it three goals in as many starts this season when City began their EFL Cup defence with a 3-0 win at Preston North End in midweek, but he is likely to find himself back on the bench against Everton on Saturday.

Sergio Aguero has netted in every Premier League game this season and, although Jesus proclaimed his admiration and respect for City’s all-time leading goalscorer in an interview with Esporte Interativo, the 2017 arrival from Palmeiras stated he was “over the ‘I have to wait’ phase” at the Etihad Stadium.

“He’s passionate. I read that interview and it was perfect,” Guardiola told a pre-match news conference.

“It was incredibly respectful, like Gabriel is. No problem at all. Of course he wants to play. He is the number nine for Brazil.

“I said recently, he is maybe the only striker in the world at this level who has to have this mentality, a friendship with Sergio and all the team-mates.

“Every time he is on the pitch, if he plays one second, two minutes or 90 minutes, he plays like an animal. In every action he does his best.

“Not just Gabriel, all the players want to play all the games. It’s normal. It’s not a problem.”

Man City striker Jesus hails self, says I’m on fire

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus believes he is in top form after describing himself as “on fire”.

Jesus helped Manchester City maintain their blistering start to 2019 by thrashing Burnley 5-0.

The Brazilian netted his eighth goal in his last five games, and his 15th for the season, as City hammered the Clarets in their FA Cup fourth-round tie at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

City have scored 30 goals in seven games this year, all of which have been won, and Jesus says they are hungry for more.

The 21-year-old said: “I have started this year on fire, I think, (and) not just for the goals.

“I think I help the team on the pitch, I work hard and I think I play well when I go onto the pitch.

“My focus is to do this and I am so happy that I scored goals because I am a striker and I need to score goals.

“When we score the first goal, we want to score more and more, and to play well and win the games.”

Jesus send Man City back to top of Premier League

Gabriel Jesus said his mother’s arrival in England has improved his confidence as he ended his Premier League goal drought to help Manchester City return to the top of the table.

Jesus had not scored a league goal since August – a run of 11 games and 487 minutes – but netted twice before Raheem Sterling added City’s third.

The Brazil forward, who signed for City in 2017 and extended his contract until 2023 earlier this season, has recently been joined in Manchester by his mother.

“My confidence is back because my family is here with me,” said the 21-year-old.

“They help me a lot. It is easy for me because they are everything. I need my family in this moment.”

City manager Pep Guardiola said: “He settled so well from the beginning – but it is much better his family is here and strikers need to score goals.

“He scored two nice goals that will be important for him.

City will stay top for at least another day, with Liverpool needing to beat Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday to reclaim their place at the summit.

This victory, City’s 10th in a row at home in the league, was rarely in serious doubt once Jesus had fired his side ahead on a bitterly cold day at Etihad Stadium.

  • Jesus disappointed not to take City penalty against Liverpool

Manchester City striker, Gabriel Jesus says he was disappointed not to take his side’s late penalty in the goalless Premier League draw at Liverpool on Sunday.

The visitors were awarded a spot-kick in the 85th minute but Riyad Mahrez’s effort sailed high over the bar.
City forward Jesus had wanted to take responsibility but manager Pep Guardiola instructed Mahrez to step up.
“I would like to have taken it, I was confident, so I was not happy that they did not allow me,” Jesus said.
Mahrez has now failed to score five of his last eight Premier League penalties, while Jesus has missed two of his last three for City. Regular penalty taker Sergio Aguero was off the pitch at the time.
Jesus, who has scored two goals this season, revealed that Guardiola apologised to him after the game.
“Pep spoke with me. This is part of football, sometimes these things happen. I will support Riyad if the manager chooses him again,” he said.
Mahrez, who has three goals since joining from Leicester City in the summer, put a brave face on his miss.
“It is part of football, you have to go forward and stay strong. Sometimes you score, sometimes you miss,” the Algerian said. “We are not just a team that wants to play and leaves big spaces, but we are a team who want to be strong defensively. It’s a good draw and we deserved to win.”
The draw leaves City top of the Premier League on 20 points, level with Liverpool and Chelsea.

Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus extends deal at Man City

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2023.

Jesus, 21, arrived at Etihad Stadium from Brazilian club Palmeiras for £27m in January 2017 and scored seven goals in 11 games in his debut season.

He netted 17 goals as City won the Premier League and the Carabao Cup last term.

He started every game as Brazil reached this summer’s World Cup quarter-finals, where they lost to Belgium.

Jesus has struggled with injury at City, breaking a metatarsal in his foot and suffering a knee injury.

He has described joining the club as the “best decision I’ve made in my life”.

Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain added: “Gabriel is undoubtedly one of the best young forwards in world football.”

City face last season’s FA Cup winners Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday.

  • Gabriel Jesus could face two game ban for diving, says Mark Clattenburg

Former Premier League ref Mark Clattenburg believes Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus could face a retrospective two game ban for diving in the Manchester derby.

The Brazilian took a tumble after just 20 minutes at Old Trafford when he came shoulder to shoulder with Manchester United’s Chris Smalling.

At the start of the season the FA implemented a new rule that sees diving players punished. However, this is only if the incident in question wins a penalty or leads to opponent being sent off.

Footballers that are not punished during the game will be put to a three-man panel who will review the video evidence.

Should they be found guilty they will be handed a two-game ban.

With no penalty awarded and no yellow card handed out, Clattenburg still expects the footage of Jesus to be reviewed.

“The incident in the first half is a dive from Gabriel Jesus,’ told The Times

“That’s a dive. I think we will see that being looked at by the Premier League and it will be interesting.

“There will be a referee, an ex-player and an ex-manager on the panel and it will depend on what the latter two say.

“The referee will say that it’s a dive but it will have to be a 3-0 verdict for him to receive a ban.”
