COVID-19 back, tougher in Kano, Ganduje warns residents

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Wednesday announced that COVID-19 is back in his state, spiking much harder and tougher than the first wave of the pandemic.

He said the state recorded 17 deaths in the last 49 days, as the sample positivity rate increased to 12.7 per cent, compared to the overall positivity of 4.2 per cent.

In all, as at January 18, the state has recorded a total of 71 deaths, 2,636 confirmed cases out of the total 61,802 samples tested and 61,997 suspected cases.

The number of patients currently on home-based care and hospital admissions in the last 49 days stand at 289.

It was gathered that 2,276 cases have been treated and discharged and 5,083 persons are on contract-tracing.

The highest positivity cases, the state government said, were recorded in Nassarawa Local Government Council, with 624 cases, followed by Tarauni with 499 cases and Kano Municipal which has 286 cases.

Ganduje regretted that despite the increased rise in COVID-19 positivity cases in Kano State, residents are refusing to observe the Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols.

Other challenges, the governor mentioned, include “poor public compliance to low risks perception (many do not believe COVID-19 is real), poor cooperation by confirmed cases to self-isolate themselves or be taken to isolation facility”.

Dr. Sabitu Shuaibu Shanono, who is the Deputy Coordinator, Rapid Response on COVID-19 in Kano State, said “17 persons have died of the virus from December to January”.

Ganduje expresses sadness over death of Kwankwaso’s father

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has expressed sadness over the death of Alhaji Musa Sale-Kwankwaso, the father of former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Ganduje said this in a condolence message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Abba Anwar on Friday, in Kano.

He described his death as a great loss, not only to his family but to the entire state.

Saleh Kwankwaso died in the early hours of Friday at the age of 93.

“When we received the information, apart from being shocked and jittery about it, we all felt that a great father has passed away. The feeling of this shockingly striking death will remain with us forever.

“Our great father was indeed a guide and an embodiment of patience, courage, humility, and a complete human being of endearing character and exemplary leadership.

“It is with deep sense of grief and un-imagined feeling and on behalf of the government and people of Kano State, that we are sending our condolence message to the former governor of the state, Sen. Rabi’u Musa-Kwankwaso,” he said.

Ganduje said that the state has lost an illustrious son of a high degree of exemplary character, whose leadership qualities earned him recognition, respect, and a good end to his Lord.

“What remains for us now, is to pray for Allah’s forgiveness and blessings on the soul of our dear father and seek Allah’s guidance to give us all the courage to bear this great loss,” he said.

Ganduje lied; this is why he dethroned Sanusi – Kwankwaso

Former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso has exposed reasons Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje dethroned Muhammad Sanusi II as Emir of Kano.

In a statement released by the former governor and signed by his Principal Private Secretary, Muhammad Inuwa Ali, Kwankwaso stated that Sanusi was dethroned by the governor owing to inferiority complex.

According to Kwankwaso, fears of high esteem and calibre alongside the influence Sanusi had as Emir made Ganduje jittery and as a result, he dethroned him.

“It is common knowledge that the Emir was too progressive for Gov. Ganduje’s liking and that was exactly why after his illegal removal and the dismemberment of the Kano Emirate Council, he appointed Emirs that will not question his ill-advised decisions even if they are against the interest of the state and its people.”

The former governor said Ganduje always feels diminished and inferior in the presence of the former Emir.

He also alleged that Ganduje harbours a pathological hatred for the Kano Traditional Institution, that was why he had to dethrone Sanusi.

“We also know that Ganduje was madly obsessed with reversing everything that Sen. Kwankwaso did in the state. And we are aware, for these reasons, Gov. Ganduje was set, ab initio, to destroy the Kano Emirate and Emir Sanusi II was marked to be the first victim, the statement read.

Kwankwaso said Sanusi’s enthronement had nothing to do with former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Previously, the Kano State governor said that the dethroned Emir was appointed in 2014 to spite former President Goodluck Johnathan who sacked him as CBN governor.

“Sanusi was appointed Emir of Kano not because he was the best man for the throne but to retaliate what Jonathan did to him.

Ganduje, a PhD holder, said he sacked the Emir to save the traditional institution from abuse.

Kwankwaso appointed Sanusi Emir of Kano to spite Jonathan – Ganduje

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje on Tuesday said dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi was appointed emir in 2014 to spite former President Goodluck Jonathan who sacked him as CBN governor.

He said he took the decision to sack Sanusi in March 2020 to save the traditional institution from abuse.

The governor, who spoke at the presentation of a book on former President Goodluck Johnathan, authored by a journalist, Bonaventure Philips Melah, in Abuja, said Jonathan took a bold step in sacking Sanusi as CBN Governor, which created bad blood in certain circles.

He said when Sanusi said $49 billion was lost in Jonathan’s government, he said in in his mind that he (Sanusi) could have discussed with him (Jonathan) privately.

“You could have given him this clue and then he would know how to investigate even before those who had stolen the money would find a way of hiding the money. That statement, I said in my mind was not honourable. That statement created bad blood,” he said.

Two months after Sanusi was sacked as CBN governor, former governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso appointed him as Kano Emir.

Ganduje, who was then the deputy governor later became governor and sacked Sanusi on March 9, 2020.

However, Ganduje said Sanusi was never the best man for the job, but to serve as retaliation for what Jonathan did.

“Sanusi was appointed Emir of Kano not because he was the best man for the throne but to retaliate what Jonathan did to him.

“That was in order to prove that what Jonathan did to him was wrong and that the people of Kano wanted their son as Emir and therefore they decided to appoint him as Emir,” he said.

According to him, when Sanusi was appointed, there were a lot of demonstration with people burning tyres here and there, noting that because of government’s backing, he was sustained on the stool.

“When I became governor, I said yes, the Jonathan medicine is an important medicine. That medicine, even though I am not a medical doctor, but that medicine would serve the same purpose, for the same disease and for the same patient.

“So I took my Jonathan medicine and decided to save the system, to save the institution and I applied it effectively. So Jonathan and I are on the same page. Actually, I have no regrets.”

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has on Thursday reappointed his sacked commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Mu’azu Magaji who allegedly mocked the death of late Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ganduje appointed Engr. Magaji as Chairman, Kano State Committee on Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation/ Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (NNPC/AKK) Gas Pipeline Project Delivery and Gas Industrialization.

The appointment was contained in a letter dated 29th October, 2020 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Bilikisu Shehu Maimota on behalf of the Secretary to the Kano State Government, to that effect.

Engr. Magaji is to Chair the 15-man Committee which is expected to coordinate in close partnership with NNPC on the timely implementation of the NNPC-AKK Gas Pipeline Project in Kano State.

Part of the letter reads, “In line with the present administration’s commitment towards ensuring speedy and successful actualization of the objectives of the Kano state AKK project in the state, the Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has granted approval for the constitution of a State Gas Pipeline Project Delivery and Gas Industrialization Committee to work closely with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

Ganduje’s aide tackles Buhari over inaction on #EndSARS protests

Salihu Tanko Yakasai, the media aide to Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to directly address young Nigerians demanding the end of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS).

Nigerian youths have organized a nationwide protest over the brutality, extortion and extrajudicial killings of SARS operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.

Jimoh Isiaq, a student of Ladoke Akintola University Ogbomoso, was shot dead by the police on Saturday during a #EndSARS protest in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. And many youths have been arrested.

The protesters who gathered at the Nigeria Police Force’s headquarters were also dispersed with tear gas when they insisted on meeting the Inspector General of Police before leaving.

However, despite the intimidation and the continuous show of brutality by police officers, the Nigerian youths were not backing down on their demand for the end of SARS.

According to the youths, the government has promised to reform the controversial police unit over the years but nothing positive was achieved with more killings and extortions recorded.

However, the protest against police brutality has continued for over a week and has gathered international recognition but the President of Nigeria is yet to directly address the youth of his country.

This drew a strong reaction from Salihu Tanko Yakasai who knocked Muhammadu Buhari’s administration despite the fact that his principal Abdullahi Ganduje belongs to the same political party as the president.

“I’ve never seen a govt with zero empathy like that of Muhammadu Buhari,” Yakasai stated on Sunday.

“So many times when his people are going through a difficult time and expect some sort of tap on the shoulder to reassure them that he is in charge, but he failed to do so. The ‘i don’t care attitude ‘ is on another level.

“To speak to your own people over issues that are bedeviling them has become something like a favour you’re doing to them. Over and over again, you cannot spare 5 minutes and address the nation to calm them down, the same people you went to the 36 states to beg for their votes, it’s heartbreaking.”

Yakasai, however, urged the Nigerian youths not to back down until their demands are met.

“Whatever you do in life, make sure you never lose your voice. Speak up against injustice, speak up against inaction, speak up for what u believe in, demand for ur right, and never let a temporary position or privilege stop u from standing with the people. Enough is enough! #EndSARS,” he added.

#EdoDecides2020: Buni, Ganduje brief Buhari on APC performance in Aso Villa

National Caretaker Committee Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Mai Mala Buni and the Chairman of the party’s Governorship Election Campaign for Edo State, Abdullahi Ganduje on Monday met with President Muhammadu Buhari behind ‘closed door’ at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting is coming after the APC was routed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, who defected to PDP to contest the election defeated the APC’s candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to win re-election.

The two governors, it was gathered, entered the State House for the meeting with Buhari and took different exit door when leaving as no one knew the outcome of the meeting.

INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, had on Sunday announced Obaseki as winner of the election after he polled 307,955 votes to defeat Ize-Iyamu of the APC who scored 223,619 votes.

#EdoDecides2020: No one should say shit about my father, Ganduje’s daughter fumes

Fatima Ganduje-Ajimobi is taking very seriously the criticisms targeted at her father after he failed to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress in Edo state.

Governor Ganduje, the head of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign committee in Edo and Ize-Iyamu were floored by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party Godwin Obaseki.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obaseki polled a total of 307, 955 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress’s Osagie Ize-Iyamu who got 223, 619 votes.

However, Ganduje became a target of ridicule after he failed to retire Obaseki’s political career and send Wike, the head of the PDP campaign committee, into isolation as he promised.

“We know PDP made Wike their chairman but I assure you, we will isolate Wike in an isolation centre and before he recovers, the election is over,” Ganduje had said.

However, Fatima, the last daughter of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, warned critics against attacking her father.

Fatima said: “I am from Kano state and Oyo state and no matter what you say or think of Ganduje, he is one of the few elected officers who are actually implementing projects. Don’t argue with me, don’t waste your data, just go to KANO STATE and see for yourself.

“The truth is, as Nigerians we should only consider work on ground. No one should say shit about Ganduje unless you have done equal or more work. Simple. He is not from Edo and kano as a state is above many.”
