Court shifts judgment in suit seeking Ganduje’s sack as APC chair

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, shifted the judgment in a suit seeking the removal of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Sept. 23.

NAN reports that the matter, which was earlier fixed for today, was not on the cause list.

It was gathered that the parties in the suit had  earlier been reached by the court registrar for a new date because the judgement was not ready.

“We have already called the parties on phone to inform them of the development. A new date is next week, September 23,” a reliable source said.

Justice Inyang Ekwo had, on July 5, fixed today (Sept. 18) for the judgment.

Justice Ekwo fixed the date after counsel to the plaintiff, Benjamin Davou; and lawyers to the defence adopted their processes and made their submission for and against the case.

The plaintiff; the North Central APC Forum, led by Saleh Zazzaga, had filed the suit to queried the propriety of Ganduje’s appointment as the Chairman of the APC when he is not from the North Central geo-political zone.

In the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, the plaintiff listed Ganduje, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as 1st to 3rd defendants respectively.

The plaintiff wants the court to, among others, restrain Ganduje from further parading himself as the chairman of the APC.

It also prays the court to issue an order directing INEC not to accord recognition to all actions taken by the APC, including congresses, primaries and nominations, since Ganduje became APC Chairman on August 3, 2023.

The plaintiff is contending among others, that Ganduje is occupying the office of the APC chairman illegally, not being from a state in the North Central geo-political zone.

It argued that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the APC breached the party’s constitution when it appointed Ganduje, from Kano State in the North West geo- political zone to replace Sen. Abdullahi Adamu from Nasarawa State in the North Central geo-political zone.

It also argued that Ganduje’s appointment to replace Abdullahi was contrary to Article 31.5(1) f of the APC constitution and ultra vires the powers of the NEC of the party, among other reliefs.

APC’ll win Edo governorship poll – Ganduje

The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress ( APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday expressed optimism that the party will win the September 21 Edo governorship election.

Ganduje spoke while receiving the leadership of the Kano State Correspondents’ Chapel of  the NUJ led by its Chairman, Aminu Garko on Thursday.

He said a political machinery has been put in place to pave the way for a landslide victory of the party’s candidate.

Ganduje said, ” I believe our campaign is in high spirit, we are getting ready for that election and we believe we will be able to recover our state.

”This is because it was an APC state but because of internal bubbles, we lost it to PDP but we are sure we will recover that state.

”For Ondo State, it’s already an APC state and when the former Governor died, he left a number of problems, but we were able to resolve those issues.

”We conducted primaries, we succeeded in getting the person that they want.”

He said that the party was also getting ready for the election, which  comes up in November.

Ganduje said, ”If we win Edo, we will be getting an additional state for the party. It will be 21 states out of 36.

“Next year, there will be Anambra, which has been a state governed by APGA for many years, but we have introduced a new scheme.

”The North, South-East political zones are all claiming that they have been marginalised.

”The South-East geopolitical zone is saying the same thing. But what we are telling them is that the marginalisation has been created by them.

“How can you have five states ruled by four political parties? What will be your political bargain?”

He said that the party was working very hard to ensure that it gets more states from the zone, saying, ”we want to start with Anambra.

”Already, we have Ebonyi and Imo. Now we are encroaching into that zone to ensure that we capture most of the states.

”And if we get what we want, we capture all the states,” Ganduje said.

2027: Ganduje raises alarm over viral campaign poster, says I’ve no plans to contest against Tinubu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, has described as fake and malicious the campaign posters currently circulating on social media indicating he intends to contest against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Ganduje in a statement issued Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, said mischief makers were behind the campaign posters.

The posters indicate that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma will be Ganduje’s running mate.

The statement reads: “This is to inform the general public that the poster currently circulating on social media, claiming that the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is contesting for the presidency in 2027 with Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, as his running mate, is entirely false and a malicious piece of fake news.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to categorically state that this is the work of mischief-makers, likely in collaboration with certain elements within the Kwankwassiyya movement, who are determined to create disaffection between Dr. Ganduje and His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje remains unwaveringly loyal to President Tinubu and is fully committed to supporting the President’s vision and leadership. Dr. Ganduje believes that President Tinubu is on the right trajectory to steer Nigeria towards greater prosperity and unity.

“We urge the public to disregard this fabricated story and refrain from spreading unverified information

  • Court to hear suit seeking to stop Ganduje as APC chairman June 13

Court to hear suit seeking to stop Ganduje as APC chairman June 13

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, fixed June 13 to hear  a suit seeking to restrain Dr Abdullahi Ganduje from parading himself as the National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC).

Justice Inyang Ekwo fixed the date to allow parties in the suit regularise their processes.

The North Central APC Forum, in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/599/24, had sued Ganduje, APC and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as 1st to 3rd defendants respectively.

The forum, led by Saleh Zazzaga, equally sought an order directing the INEC not to accord recognition to all actions taken by the APC, including congresses, primaries and nominations, since Ganduje became APC chairman on August 3, 2023.

The claimant, in the originating summons dated and filed on May 6, contended that Ganduje is occupying the office of the APC chairman illegally, having not been from a state in the North Central Geo-political Zone.

The claimant further argued that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of APC breached the party’s constitution when it appointed Ganduje, from Kano State in the North West Geo- Political Zone to replace Sen. Abdullahi Adamu from Nasarawa State in the North Central Geo-Political Zone.

The forum argued that Ganduje’s appointment to replace Abdullahi was contrary to Article 31.5(1) f of the APC constitution and ultra vires the powers of the NEC of the party.

It added that by the true interpretation of Article 31.5(1) of the APC Constitution, 2013 (as amended), the party is bound to comply with the procedure for the replacement of an officer in the event of a vacancy.

Therefore, the group said APC ought to have appointed a member from Nasarawa State in the North Central Geo- Political Zone into the office of the chairman of the party.

The forum then wants the court to among others, declare that by Article 20(1) of the APC Constitution, 2013, Ganduje cannot be appointed as the national chairman other than through democratically conducted election and that his current occupation of the office is illegal.

When the case was called on Thursday, claimant’s counsel, Ayuba Abdul, informed the court that the matter was slated for hearing of their motion ex-parte for substituted service of their processes on Ganduje (1st defendant).
    .
Abdul, however, said he was surprised to see Ganduje’s lawyer in court, having not been served with the court documents.

He told the court that all efforts made by the bailiff to serve the embattled APC chair were unsuccessful.

Justice Ekwo then asked Ganduje’s lawyer, Sanusi Musa, SAN, if he was ready to receive the processes on behalf of his client and he responded in affirmative.

But Abdul said the processes were in the custody of the bailiff.

He, however, acknowledged the receipt of the APC (2nd defendant)’s counter affidavit and a preliminary objection from Ishaka Dikko, SAN, who appeared for the party.

Justice Ekwo subsequently adjourned the matter until June 13 for hearing of the substantive suit and the preliminary objection.

The judge, who ordered parties to file and respond to all applications in the suit before the next adjourned date, directed that hearing notice be issued to INEC.

NAN observes that INEC was not represented in court.(

Federal High Court fixes May 28 for hearing of Ganduje’s suspension case

The Judge of Federal High Court sitting in Kano, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman has set May 28 as the date for the hearing of a substantive application filed by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.

It would be recalled that Ganduje is contesting his suspension from the party by factional ward executives led by Basiru Nuhu Isa.

Trouble started when the Kano former governor, was suspended by APC ward executives led by Haladu Gwanjo, on April 15. However, another faction emerged, announcing Ganduje’s suspension on April 20, further complicating the situation.

In response to the second suspension, Zakari Sarina, the secretary of the party in Kano, denounced the faction’s actions, labeling it as a case of impersonation.

Ganduje, through his legal representative, Hadiza Nasir Ahmad, is seeking legal recourse, asserting that his suspension without being afforded an opportunity to defend himself constitutes a violation of his fundamental right to fair hearing. Furthermore, he contends that his suspension by the faction is unlawful, null, and void.

In a recent court proceeding, counsel for Ganduje applied for service on the respondents by substituted means, a request which Justice Liman granted. Consequently, the court has adjourned the matter to May 28 for a comprehensive hearing.
