Kano APC urges Ganduje to disregard anti-graft invitation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has urged immediate past governor Abdullahi Ganduje not to honour the invitation extended to him by the state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) over a purported dollar video.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by the state Chairman and Secretary of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas and Alhaji Zakari Sarina, respectively, and made available to newsmen in Kano on Thursday.

The commission had on Thursday invited Ganduje to appéar before it over alleged dollar bribe videos.

The Chairman of the commission, Mr Muhuyi Rimingado, confirmed this to newsmen in Kano on Thursday.

Rimingado said that the commission is expecting Ganduje to appear before it next week to have the opportunity to clear his name in the ongoing investigation.

Reacting, the APC said it has realised that the reenactment of the politically motivated issue of the Dollar video by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), which is before a court of law, was part of a sinister ploy to dent the image of the former governor.

It further explained that similar scenario was played to scuttle the former governor’s chance of securing ticket for the party’s gubernatorial election in 2019.

The statement added that this time, the detractors are engaged in this campaign of calumny to draw a wedge between President Bola Tinubu and Ganduje, one of the president’s strongest allies in the North.

The APC stated that while Ganduje’s contributions to the Tinubu political project right from the conduct of the primary election, is widely appreciated, his relationship with the President remains cordial.

Ganduje’s dollar videos are giving  Kano a bad name  across the globe – Anti-graft agency

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has said the dollar videos of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje damaged the state’s image globally.

Ganduje was captured in  2018 by Jafaar Jafaar, an investigative journalist, who filmed the former governor collecting wads of dollars as a bribe.

In the videos, he could be seen collecting the dollars before rolling them into his white dress, “babanriga”

Speaking on Wednesday at a one-day public dialogue on ‘Anti-Corruption Crusade in Kano’, Barr. Muhuyi Rimingado, chairman of PCACC, said the authenticity of the videos had been confirmed.

He said since the release of the footages, people have been challenging the commission under him to prove the innocence or otherwise of the former governor in the matter.

“There are reports that the dollar videos are giving Kano a bad name in not only Nigeria, but across the globe. That is why I am so determined to investigate and ensure that the suspect is being probed to clear the air and reclaim Kano back to its good reputation.

“Anybody that knows can tell that I am passionate about what I am doing, which is to fight corruption. People are disturbing and pressurizing me to probe the dollar videos. We are on it already. Forensic analysis has confirmed to us that the videos were not doctored,” Rimingado said.

Dollar clips: Anti-graft panel probes Ganduje

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission has promised to establish the truth in the dollar scandal involving former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The commission confirmed the arrest of Ganduje’s Commissioner for Works and other persons in connection with alleged N1 billion fraud. Addressing journalists in Kano, yesterday, the reinstated chairman of the commission, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, disclosed that there was significant improvement in the investigation of the case, adding that no force would deter him.

Rimin-Gado said he invited forensic experts to carefully study the video clip to understand its content. He explained that the controversy surrounding Ganduje and the video “remains interesting to the Kano people,” hence the commission is under oath to get to the root.

The chairman described the subsisting court case on the matter as inconsequential to the commission’s investigation. On the arrest of Ganduje’s commissioner over alleged N1 billion 30 roads maintenance fraud, he explained that the money was removed under a unilateral directive, but the job was not done.

According to him, the commissioner and two others are in custody of the agency and will be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded. Ganduje’s Commissioner for Justice, Musa Lawal, described the move by the commission to openly investigate or prosecute his boss as clear abuse of power.

Lawal said nobody under any agency has the legal power to ignore the matter in court. Before Ganduje suspended him, Rimin-Gado had openly declared the commission incapacitated to investigate the matter.

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party ( NNPP) and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has called the bluff of the immediate past Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje who said he would’ve slapped him at the Presidential Villa, describing Ganduje as a  person who was confused while making the “slapping ” remarks.

” I  heard that he ( Ganduje) said he would’ve slapped me, but I’m here. He was just confused. These are all my boys politically. They can’t even look at me straight on the face if we meet. He was in a confused state when he said that, these my political boys if they see me they lower their gaze,” Kwankwaso said.

He told the BBC Hausa Service in an interview monitored on Saturday morning, that he met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for about 2 hours at the Presidential Villa and was able to convinced him on the alleged land deals and other infractions of the erstwhile Ganduje administration in Kano state, adding that the President was so ” surprised with the revelations .”

He alleged that Ganduje had among others, allocated lands at the Kano Race Course to his friends and family members, a development that now made it hard for people who wanted to indulge in sporting activities and other exercises, to find a place.

According to him, even the Eid praying ground where Muslims converged to pray during Sallah, was not sparred by Ganduje who had allegedly allowed shops to be built round the holy place where the Emir and many other important dignitaries had prayed, thereby compromising the security of the Eid Prayer ground.

Kwankwaso disclosed that there were possibilities the Tinubu administration may engage some of them from the opposition in his government, and did not ruled out if he may eventually make it in the forthcoming ministerial list of the new administration.
