Transfer: Madrid blocks Bale's move to China

Gareth Bale’s move to China is off after Real Madrid cancelled the deal, with the Wales winger now set to stay at the Spanish club.

Bale, 30, had been expected to join Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning on a three-year deal, earning a reported £1m a week.
Last week Real boss Zinedine Zidane said Bale was “very close to leaving”having fallen out of favour.
Zidane added his exit would be “best for everyone”.
Bale joined the Spanish club for £85m from Tottenham in 2013 in a world record deal at the time.
He has three years left on his contract with the Bernabeu club where he has won four Champions Leagues, one La Liga title, a Copa del Rey, three Uefa Super Cups and three Club World Cups.
Bale scored three goals, plus a penalty in a shootout, in four Champions League finals for Real as they won the competition in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

  • Bale camp in £1m-a-week China talks

Gareth Bale’s representatives are in talks with Chinese side Jiangsu Suning about a deal which could see the Welshman earn £1m a week.
Sky Sports News understands negotiations are progressing and there is still some work to do, but Jiangsu Suning are increasingly confident they can convince Bale to sign.
The 30-year-old has been told he can leave Real Madrid, even though he has three years left on his £600,000-a-week contract.
However, any deal will have to be concluded by Wednesday as that is when the Chinese window closes.
Another hurdle is that all Chinese clubs have to pay 100 per cent transfer tax on foreign signings, meaning Jiangsu Suning will effectively have to pay double to secure Bale’s services.
All proceeds from this transfer tax then go towards youth development in the country.
Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett also told SSN earlier this week that the Welshman would not leave the Santiago Bernabeu in a “makeshift” loan deal.
And with the former Tottenham star unlikely to agree to a significant pay cut, the list of clubs who could afford to land Bale on a permanent deal is decreasing by the day, with China being one of the only viable options remaining.

Bale won’t leave Madrid on loan, says agent

Agent of Gareth Bale has revealed the attacker will not leave Spanish giants Real Madarid on any loan deal.
“There will be no makeshift deals to get him out of the club,” he said.
“Gareth is one of the best players on the planet. I can guarantee you he will not be going on loan to any club.”
“Gareth is a Real Madrid player and for now he’s staying as a Real Madrid player,” said Barnett.
“If something comes along that suits us, then things could change and he could be gone in a day or a week. Or he could still be a Real player in three years when his contract ends.”
Bale trained with his team-mates yesterday ahead of the game overnight tonight against Arsenal.

  • La Liga: Bale very close to Madrid exit – Zidane

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale is “very close to leaving” the Spanish club, says boss Zinedine Zidane.

The Wales international, 30, was left out of Real’s 3-1 pre-season defeat by Bayern Munich in Houston, USA.
Speaking after the game, Zidane said: “We hope he leaves soon. It would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.
“I have nothing personal against him, but there comes a time where things are done because they must be done.”
Bale, who has three years left on his Real contract, has won the Champions League four times since his £85m move to Madrid from Tottenham in 2013 – a world record deal at the time.
In response to Zidane’s comments, Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett told AFP: “Zidane is a disgrace – he shows no respect for a player that has done so much for Real Madrid.”
Bale has been linked with Premier League sides Manchester United and Tottenham, German champions Bayern and also a move to the Chinese Super League.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was asked about his side’s reported interest in Bale after their 3-2 pre-season friendly win over Juventus in Singapore on Sunday.
“I saw in the media but I don’t know which club is trying to sign him,” replied the Argentine. “I don’t know if we are or if it’s another club.
“It’s not my job, it’s the job of my chairman, who is trying to build the best squad possible.”
Injury problems have limited Bale to 79 La Liga starts in the past four seasons. He played 42 matches in all competitions for Los Blancos last term, 13 of those as a substitute.

  • Transfer: Bale told to return to Premier League

Former Chelsea player, Tony Cascarino has urged Real Madrid winger, Gareth Bale, to return to the English Premier League, EPL, in this summer’s transfer window.
Cascarino said this after Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, on Saturday confirmed that Bale is close to leaving the Santiago Bernabeu for another club.

Bale was left out of Real Madrid squad against Bayern Munich by Zidane on Saturday.
The 30-year-old has been frozen out by Zidane, since his return to the Spanish capital at the end of last season.
The Welsh international has also drawn interests from Manchester United and Tottenham in recent weeks, but Cascarino believes Bale should return to the English topflight league.

“I think Gareth Bale should come back to these shores [English Premier League], because there are clubs playing an exciting brand of football,” Cascarino said on talkSPORT.
“But unless Gareth gives something back and his demands are not so demanding on a football club where they’re thinking it’s costing us an awful lot of money and yes we’re getting a very good player, then it won’t happen.
“It’s got to be structured differently for Gareth, but he can’t expect to be paid the same sort of money he’s on now at Real Madrid.

“Gareth has to force the issue and come out and say ‘I want to leave Madrid, I don’t want to stay there’.
“He needs to make it clear he wants to be part of something elsewhere, as at Madrid he’s just been banished from the squad.”

  • Bale hat-trick sends Madrid into FIFA Club World Cup final

Gareth Bale scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid beat Japan’s Kashima Antlers 3-1 on Wednesday to book a spot in Saturday’s FIFA Club World Cup final match.

European champions Real Madrid will now face host side Al Ain FC in the final match in Abu Dhabi as they bid to win the title for the third year in a row.

Kashima almost made a dream start inside two minutes with a close-range shot from Serginho that was saved by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Bale opened the scoring in the 44th minute with a left-foot strike into the bottom corner of the net after playing a one-two with Marcelo.

He struck his second in the 53rd minute, taking advantage of a defensive mix-up that left the Kashima goal wide open.

The Wales forward made it 3-0 to the Spanish side two minutes later with a left-foot shot into the top corner.

Bale has now scored six goals in the tournament, trailing only his former team mate Cristiano Ronaldo who has netted seven.

“He (Bale) played a superb match,” Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari told reporters. “He has shown what he is, and what he can do.”

Bale was substituted in the 60th minute for Asensio, only for his replacement to be forced off 14 minutes later due to injury.

“I hope it is not a serious problem with him because it is very that important all the players are fit,” Solari said. “It is a pity that he had to leave the pitch today.”

Asian champions Kashima grabbed a consolation goal in the 78th minute through Shoma Doi.

Kashima, third in the J-League, will meet South American champions River Plate in the third-place playoff earlier on Saturday.

  • Gareth Bale among first five Ballon d'Or nominees

Real Madrid and Wales forward Gareth Bale is among the nominees for this year’s men’s Ballon d’Or award.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and striker Sergio Aguero are also contenders, as are Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson and forward Robert Firmino.
The 30-man list of nominees will be revealed throughout the day.
The Ballon d’Or, a prestigious award presented since 1956, is given to the best player of the year.
The ceremony to announce the winner will take place in Paris on 3 December, when a women’s award will be presented for the first time.
Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Juventus from Real Madrid in the summer, won last year’s Ballon d’Or and is again a contender.
Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and keeper Thibaut Coutois, and Paris St-Germain attacker Edinson Cavani are the other nominees to have been named so far.

    What is the Ballon d’Or?

The Ballon d’Or has been awarded by France Football every year since 1956, with former England international Sir Stanley Matthews the first winner.
The list is compiled by the editorial staff of the French publication, with the winner voted for by journalists from around the world, with one representative per nation.
For six years it combined with world football’s governing body to become the Fifa Ballon d’Or.
However, Fifa ended its association with the award in September 2016.
At Fifa’s awards in September, Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric was named the world’s best male player, while Brazil and Orlando Pride forward Marta won the best female player award.

  • La liga: Bale inspires Real Madrid to comeback win

Gareth Bale scored for the second successive La Liga game as Real Madrid came from behind to beat Girona.

The Catalan hosts took the lead when Borja Garcia rifled home from 12 yards before Sergio Ramos equalised with a penalty after Marco Asensio was fouled.

Real edged ahead through another penalty won by Asensio – this time taken by Karim Benzema – before Bale’s composed finish from Isco’s pass.

Bale turned provider to set up Benzema to make it 4-1 from close range.

The 29-year-old Wales forward also scored in Real’s first La Liga game under Julen Lopetegui last week – a 2-0 win over Getafe at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Girona, who finished 10th in their first season in La Liga, won the corresponding fixture last season 2-1.

And there were signs of another surprise when Garcia finished well after Real’s defence had allowed him too much space.

There were few complaints about either penalty – Marc Muniesa guilty of lunging into Asensio before Pere Pons’ badly timed challenge on Real’s number 20.

Bale provided the goal of the match after Isco’s lovely pass before Benzema sealed the points 10 minutes from time.

  • Gareth Bale stunner helps Madrid beat Juventus

Gareth Bale stunner helps Madrid beat Juventus

Gareth Bale’s stunning strike helped Real Madrid fight back to beat Juventus in a friendly which did not feature Cristiano Ronaldo against his old club.

Juve led when right-back Dani Carvajal slid into his own net before Bale equalised with a thumping half-volley.

Marco Asensio put Madrid ahead and then scored a third that Juve’s Wojciech Szczesny should have stopped.

Ronaldo, who joined Juve last month in a £99m deal, has been given an extended break after the World Cup.

Madrid allowed the 33-year-old to leave for the Italian champions after a nine-year spell which saw him score a club record 450 goals and win four Champions League titles.

The Portugal forward’s departure appears to have secured Bale’s future at the Bernabeu for the time being, with new coach Julen Lopetegui saying the Wales forward can “help fill the void” this season.

Lopetegui is also hoping a number of young players can also step up this season for the European champions and, on the evidence of this pre-season friendly in Maryland, USA, it looks like they can.

Several younger players impressed in the second half as Bale, Germany midfielder Toni Kroos and striker Karim Benzema came off.

Spain international Asensio, 22, took his chances in front of goal, while 18-year-old Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior – who joined this summer in a £38.7m deal – was a constant problem with his sharp and direct running.

The pair linked up for the European champions’s second goal, Vinicius skipping into space on the left before squaring for Asensio to roll in.

Juventus had little answer to the pace and energy of their opponents after that, although Federico Bernardeschi did see an injury-time free-kick pushed onto the bar.

  • Bale can help fill Ronaldo void at Real Madrid – Lopetegui

Gareth Bale can “help fill the void” left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Real Madrid, says the Spanish side’s new coach Julen Lopetegui.

Wales forward Bale had been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu after failing to hold down a regular first-team spot under previous coach Zinedine Zidane last season.

But Ronaldo’s £99m switch to Juventus means Bale is back in favour.

“Gareth is happy to play at Real Madrid,” Lopetegui said.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the main players in the recent history of Real Madrid. He expressed a desire to leave and we allowed him to.

“Gareth Bale is a magnificent player, with so many qualities. He can help fill the void.”

The 29-year-old joined Real Madrid for £87m in 2013 and has since won the Champions League four times, scoring twice in the 3-1 final victory over Liverpool in May.

Lopetegui said Bale had “worked extremely well” with France forward Karim Benzema in training, adding: “If this is the squad I have at start of season I will be a happy man.”

Speaking at a news conference before Real play Manchester United in the International Champions Cup friendly series in Miami on Tuesday, he dismissed talk of a possible move to the Premier League club for Bale.

“I don’t walk to talk about hypothetical situations,” said the former Spain boss.

“Gareth is happy to play at Real Madrid. This is a fantastic opportunity for him to show his talent. He is with the team. He is happy and aligned with our goals. It is the start of an exciting path for us.”
