Ghana confirm sacking of Rajevac after AFCON exit

Ghana have confirmed the sack of coach Milovan Rajevac after their shock early exit from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

Rajevac had been expected to be sacked after Ghana lost 3-2 to the Comoros Islands last week to finish bottom of their opening round group.

His sacking was confirmed after a meeting of the Ghana Football Association’s executive the previous day.

“After considering three reports and engagements with key stakeholders, the GFA has decided to end its relationship with Rajevac.

“The GFA will soon announce the reconstituted technical team and management committee after due engagement with all relevant stakeholders.”

The 68-year-old Rajevac had only been back in the post for four months, in his second stint in charge of the Black Stars.

He was rehired in September 2021 after Ghana made a poor start to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers but recovered to win their group and qualify for the March playoffs, where they will take on Nigeria.

Rajevac was coach when Ghana reached the World Cup quarter-finals in 2010, before going on to national team jobs in Algeria, Qatar and Thailand.

The Serbian is the first managerial casualty of the Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

AFCON 2021: Ghana coach, Rajevac vows not to resign in spite early exit

Ghanaian coach Milovan Rajevac has vowed not to resign in spite the humiliating exit of his team in the group stage of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Serbian coach disclosed this at a news conference after Comoros Island defeated his team 3-2 to bundle them out of the tournament, leaving them bottom of the table.

Ghana suffered a humiliating group-stage exit at the AFCON after the four-time champions were beaten by debutants Comoros Island in the final Group C game at the Roumde Adjia Stadium on Tuesday night.

The 68-year old gaffer, however, said he had just few months to put the team together and was adamant that with more time, he plans to qualify the Black Stars for the Qatar FIFA World Cup later in the year.

“I am not leaving. I want to stay and qualify Ghana to the World Cup.

“We didn’t start the game against Comoros how we wanted and we conceded an early goal.

“It was a poor start for us and then the red card to Andre Ayew changed everything.

“I think Comoros deserved this win because they played very well than us,” the coach said.

NAN reports that Rajevac led the Black Stars to the AFCON final in 2010 and the World Cup quarter-finals same year, and guided the West Africans through to Africa’s play-offs for this year’s World Cup.

Debutants Comoros Island send Ghana packing from AFCON

Debutants Comoros Island on Tuesday in Garoua shocked Ghana 3-2 to bundle the African football powerhouse out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

The Group C match played at the Roumde Adjia Stadium saw the four-time champions losing to their less-fancied opponents.

They thus finished bottom of their group with one point from one draw and two losses in three matches.

El Fardou Ben Mohamed scored Comoros’ first-ever goal at the AFCON before Ahmed Mogni added a second just past the hour-mark.

Goals from Richmond Boakye and Alexander Djiku levelled the game for Ghana, but Mogni grabbed a winner for the tiny island nation with five minutes remaining.

The Black Stars had their captain Andre Ayew sent off in the 25th minute after a reckless collision with the Comoros goalkeeper Ben Boina during a goalmouth scramble.

This is the first time in their history that Ghana have failed to progress from the group stage.

NAN reports that Morocco topped Group C with seven points, followed by Gabon with five points, with both teams assured of automatic qualification.

In the Morocco versus Gabon match played in Yaounde at the same time, Gabon led twice through Jim Allevinah and a Nayef Aguerd own-goal while Sofiane Boufal and Achraf Hakimi netted for Morocco.

Comoros who finished third in the group with three points still have an outside chance of being among the best third-placed finishers.

But their -2 goals difference will likely count against them.

AFCON: Ghana’s player banned for throwing punch at opponent

Ghana striker Benjamin Tetteh will serve a three-match suspension after punching an opponent during a mass brawl following Friday’s 1-1 draw with Gabon at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Tensions boiled over as Ghana were enraged by a late equaliser that Gabon scored after opting not to return the ball when the Black Stars put it out of play after their midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh went down injured.

After a shoving match broke out on the pitch at full-time, Tetteh took a swing at Gabon’s Aaron Boupendza and was later shown a red card by the referee.

CAF on Saturday said it had decided to suspend Tetteh for one additional match on top of his automatic two-game ban.

He will miss Ghana’s must-win clash against Comoros on Tuesday. Ghana are third in Group C with just one point from two games.

Mali lost their appeal over El Bilal Toure’s dismissal in the controversial 1-0 win over Tunisia.

The Reims forward was sent off in the closing stages of a game marred by controversy when the referee blew the final whistle before the 90 minutes had been played.

Burna Boy, Shatta Wale rift is disappointing – Music executive

US-based Nigerian music executive, Akeju Abass has reacted to the recent rift between Nigerian music superstar, Burna Boy, and Ghanaian star, Shatta Wale.

The Ghanaian music artiste had, during a live concert in Ghana, accused his Nigerian counterparts of not loving and supporting them.

Popular singer, Wizkid had also weighed into the comparison between Nigerian artistes and Ghanaian artiste, saying that both sides are just the same.

However, Ghana artiste, Stonebwoy had said that although Shatta Wale’s approach may be wrong, his message is valid.

Shatta Wale had thrown a shade at Nigerian artistes after selling out the Accra Sports Stadium for his concert.

At the concert, he boasted that he did not need Nigerian musicians to fill up the biggest stadium in Ghana.

Akeju, who recently launched Faces of Afrobeats, a campaign to celebrate African artists, urged stars from both countries to look at the positive side of building peace and a united Africa.

“The recent rift between Ghanaian and Nigerian stars is really disappointing. Music is one of Africa’s biggest exports. We have international spotlight on us. This is time to preach peace and shouldn’t allow any form of disunity set in”, he told DAILY POST.

The faces of Afrobeats campaign has featured some notable African stars like, Grammy-award winner Angélique Kidjo, Burna Boy, Davido, Shatta Wale, Flavour, Psquare, Diamond Platnumz, Wizkid, Sarkodie, R2Beez, Simi, Yemi Alade and many others.

Akeju, while highlighting the impact of African music on the global stage, added that Afrobeats has gained lots of positive reviews amongst music lovers.

“Our artists are gaining international recognition. Almost everywhere you go in America, there’s a playlist for African songs. This is really encouraging and we must learn to appreciate them”, he said.

Burna Boy can’t last 5 minutes in bed – Ghanaian artist, Shatta Wale

Ghanaian musical artist, Shatta Wale has said Nigeria’s Grammy award winning musician, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy cannot last 5 minutes in bed.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Shatta Wale stated this further fuelling the ongoing rift between musicians.

Recall Shatta Wale has been ranting for days about Nigerians not doing enough to promote Ghanaian artists and their music in Nigeria.

In Burna’s initial reply, he accused Shatta Wale of pushing an agenda of separation and then proposed a one on one fight with him to squash it off.

While Shatta Wale wants to instead face Burna Boy in a freestyle battle, the Nigerian singer had to clarify that he’s only interested in a physical fight between them, adding that he wants to see the Ghanaian singer’s teeth and blood on the floor.

Hitting back at Burna Boy in a series of tweets, Shatta Wale made several claims against the Nigerian singer while insisting he only wants lyrical battle and not fist fight.

In some of his tweets, he mocked Burna for allowing his mom manage him, claiming she’s controlling his career, accused him of hiding his father from everyone.

He also claimed that he helped Burna when he had a Police case in Nigeria, and alleged that the Nigerian singer is a 5 minutes man.

  • Nigerians will run to Ghana if APC returns in 2023 – PDP

Nigerians will run to Ghana if APC returns in 2023 – PDP

The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu has expressed worries over the security challenges in the country, especially, the South East geopolitical zone.

He said Nigerians, especially the youths will have no option than to leave for Ghana if APC returns to power after President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Senator Anyanwu, who was a member of the 8th Senate, expressed regret that the APC government had only worsened the suffering of Nigerians, after using Chibok girls to blackmail Jonathan’s administration out of power in 2015.

The party scribe, who stated this at his country home in Ikeduru Council artea of Imo State while fielding questions from journalists, expressed the readiness of the party to reclaim the country from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023

He said, “under the current APC administration, Nigerians are going through economic and political trials. Every sector in the country has collapsed. Aside hunger, starvation and high cost of food items, Nigerians are still hiding from kidnappers or unknown or known gunmen.”

Anyanwu, who represented Imo East Senatorial District under the PDP went on to state that if President Muhammadu Buhari and APC did not leave office in 2023, nothing good should be expected from the administration.

Anyanwu said the only thing Nigerians are asking for is a smooth transition of results from the polling units but because the APC wants to rig the general election in 2023, they have refused to do the needful.

He said Nigeriains shouldn’t expect much from a party with too many factions being manned by a state governor.

He said more factions will emerge in Imo APC and at the Federal level before March 2022, “because they are not together. Nigerians will resist APC, in Imo State, because they are standing on the neck of the people,”

He urged Nigerians not to lose hope over the present challenges confronting the country, assuring them of PDP’s readiness to rescue and rebuild the nation when it takes over power.

He said the APC government had lowered the bar of governance in the State and the country.

He described Nigeria as the most indebted country in the world.

“There is a seriously high level of corruption in the country today under the APC led administration,” he lamented.

  • Nigerians don’t reciprocate love they receive from Ghana – Stonebwoy

Nigerians don’t reciprocate love they receive from Ghana – Stonebwoy

Ghanaian singer, Livingstone Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy has said that Nigerians don’t reciprocate the love they receive from Ghana.

He said this on Twitter on Thursday as he agreed with his colleague, Shatta Wale, who had earlier told Nigerians to be grateful to Ghana for supporting their artistes.

Stonebwoy wrote, “We were all Africans before we got separated into individual nations. African history and migration studies confirm that there is more that unites us than divides us.

“As the big family that we are, we all draw diverse creative inspiration from one another – no wonder then that we have similar cultures and values across the continent, and this cross-pollination is clearly shown in our music and sound.

“With the advent of the modern day nation-state, each independent nation is uniquely gifted in order to contribute its quota to the overall status of Africa’s entertainment and creative arts scene.

“To do this, we must support each other in equal measure. Our brother nation Nigeria has done very well to mark many of the biggest milestones in the entertainment scene and is putting Africa on the global map due to the strength of its population (amongst other qualities).

“Accordingly, our Nigerian brothers must consider that with their great power comes the responsibility of helping to forge a united African front by deliberately allowing music from the other African countries which pollinate Nigerian music to flourish on Nigerian platforms on local and international levels.

“This approach will enable the African sound to dominate the world as one big family and as a global force… That’s how we stand as one Africa. My brother Shatta Wale’s approach may be wrong but the topic of our brother nation Nigeria not reciprocating the love and support it receives particularly from Ghana is valid and deserves critical attention.

“Meanwhile, as the saying goes, we must love our neighbours as we love ourselves (not more than we love ourselves). This means that Ghanaians home and abroad must emulate the Nigerian approach of prioritising an agenda to invest in and support Ghanaian talent.”
