Christian Atsu has been ruled out of the rest of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a hamstring tear, Ghanaian team officials said on Tuesday in Suez.
He has returned to England for treatment at his club, Newcastle United, hours before the Black stars were due to complete their Group F campaign against Guinea Bissau in Suez.
Atsu went off just 15 minutes into Ghana’s goalless draw against Cameroon in Ismailia on Saturday and doctors have said he is unable to play the rest of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Guinea’s Naby Keita has gone back to Liverpool for treatment on thigh and shin injuries sustained against Nigeria.
He made his first full comeback after the adductor injury that left him side-lined for two months, including the 2018/2019 UEFA Champions League final match.
However, Keita is expected back in Egypt for the knockout round.

Xenophobic attacks: You are safe in our country, Ghanaian High Commissioner assures Nigerians
Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria Rashid Bawa on Thursday urged Nigerians doing business in his home country to carry on their trade without fear of molestation from any quarter.
Bawa gave the advice at the High Commission in Abuja during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Diaspora Commission led by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the envoy’s advice is coming against the backdrop of an attack on Nigerian spare part dealers by their Ghanaian counterparts in the Suame Magazine Industrial Enclave in Kumasi.
This follows the closure of shops operated by Nigerians after indigenous Ghanaian spare parts dealers in the area protested against the continuous operation of foreigners in the retail trade.
About 50 shops belonging to Nigerian spare parts dealers were locked up by agitated Ghanaians, who said they would not sit down and watch while foreigners flout the laws governing retail marketing in their country.
The envoy said that President Nana Akufo-Addo had directed security agencies to be on top of the situation and had urged Nigerians to resume their trade without any fear.
The high commissioner, who described the attack on the Nigerian spare parts dealers as very unfortunate, said that the attacks occurred because some young Ghanaians took laws into their hands.
He, however, said some people suspected to have been involved in the incident had been arrested.
He further said that the matter had been brought under control and that security agencies working hard to ensure that the issue did not get worse.
The high commissioner explained that Ghana had been having security challenges in the past six months, citing alleged kidnapping.
“When a crime is committed between individuals, it is not between nations.
“So this should not be allowed to create anxiety between Nigeria and Ghana,” he said.
He appealed to the media not to destroy the relationship between both through provocative reportage of happenings.
Speaking earlier, Dabiri-Erewa had told the high commissioner that Ghanaians were living and working in Nigeria as well.
She, therefore, expressed the hope that the high commissioner would assure Nigerians in that country of the safety of their lives and property.
“We need assurance on the protection of Nigerians. We have Ghanians living in Nigeria and we treat them as brothers and sisters,’’ she said.
She told the envoy that the Nigerian government would be like to be informed of any Nigerian who committed crime in Ghane.
“We should know who they are; we should know, who those people are that are giving the country a bad name.
“Nigerians should not just be criminalised,’’ she said.
She also urged the media not to sensationalize the situation.
Dabiri-Erewa also led a delegation from the commission to another meeting with Lene Dimban, the Togolese Ambassador to Nigeria.
In the course of the meeting, she asked for assurances of the safety of Nigerians living in Togo.

Ghanaian court sentences Nigerian to seven years imprisonment for defiling minor
A Circuit Court in Ghana has jailed a Nigerian immigrant, 33-year-old Obinna Mba, for defiling a 12-year-old girl in Nungua, a town in the Municipal District in Accra, the country’s state capital, the Ghanaian state-owned Graphic Online reports
According to the newspaper on Saturday, a judge, Rita Doko, sentenced Mr Mba to seven years imprisonment after he was found guilty on the charge of defilement.
The court also ordered the convict’s deportation back to his home country after serving his sentence.
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Agnes Boafo, narrated how Mr Mba lured the minor to his shop and had sexual intercourse with her.
He also said the victim kept the ordeal to herself because the convict had threatened her to keep mum or she loses her life.
The police boss further said it was the victim’s mother that made the complaints after she discovered what had happened.
”The victim, mother, and Mba reside in the same vicinity at Nungua in Accra.
”In August, last year, Mba’s sister sent the victim to collect some sacks at her shop so she could pack some plantain leaves into them.
”On reaching the shop, she met Mba, who lured her into the shop and had sex with her. After the act, Mba warned the victim not to disclose the act to anyone else she would die,” Mr Boafo explained.
”Mba became so close to the victim afterward and her mother became suspicious of their relationship.
”When the victim’s mother questioned her over the said relationship, the victim let the cat out of the bag and a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit, Nungua.
The prosecution officer explained that the convict was arrested based on report gotten from medical laboratory tests.
”The mother was issued with a medical form to seek medical attention for the victim and based on the report, the police arrested Mba.”

Deportation: Nigeria, Ghana Immigration chiefs hold reconciliatory talks
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and its Ghanaian counterpart have begun reconciliatory talks over the recent deportation of four Ghanaian nationals by Nigerian authority.
NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday James made this known in a Press Statement in Abuja on Saturday.
He said that the Comptroller-General of NIS, Mr Muhammad Babandede had played host to the visiting Comptroller-General of Ghana Immigration Service, Mr Kwame Takyi accompanied by the Ghana High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Rashid Bawa.
“The meeting, which held behind closed doors, appeared to be a conciliatory meeting following the deportation of four Ghanaian nationals from Nigeria to Ghana.
“Babandede when contacted confirmed the meeting saying details of a further meeting was being worked out by the Ministers of Interior and Foreign Affairs of Nigeria and Ghana.
“There is no cause for alarm as both countries will resolve issues between both countries diplomatically.”
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the minister of interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) had authorised the deportation order of the four Ghanaian nationals over alleged violation of provisions of the Immigration Act and Regulations.
“This is in line with the powers vested on the Minister of Interior in Section 45(1) and (2) of the Immigration Act 2015″, Mr James said.
The visit comes a week after Nigeria deported four Ghanaians to Accra.
NAN reports that no formal explanation was publicly rendered for the deportation, which was approved by Abdulrahman Dambazau, the interior minister.
A month earlier, Nigeria had protested mass deportation of at least 723 of its citizens between 2018 and February 2019. The Nigerians were accused of illegal stay, cyber-crime, prostitution and other social vices.
Eighty-one Nigerians were deported on alleged cyber-crime and illegal stay in January, while 115 have so far been deported in February on the allegation of overstay and prostitution.
NAN reports that Nigerian ambassador to Ghana, Michael Abikoye, strongly protested the action to the Ghanaian government in Accra.
Nigeria’s objection to the removal of its citizens from Ghana and failure to publicly state the offences of the four deported Ghanaians had fueled speculation that the March 22 decision might have been done in retaliation. (NAN)

Presidency speaks on deportation of 723 Nigerians from Ghana
The Presidency has expressed concerns about the deportation of 723 Nigerians by the authorities in Ghana since 2018.
The reaction came through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Thursday.
She said, “The story that hundreds of Nigerians are being deported from Ghana is disturbing and worrisome.
“The good thing is that the Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana is on top of the situation.
“Now, he met with the Comptroller-General of the Immigration in Ghana and they both had a very productive discussion.
“But here is the situation: if, indeed, you commit a crime, you have to face the penalties. But, what we are saying is that a bad apple should not spoil the bunch.
“Let every case be treated on its merit. That’s what our ambassador is demanding and that’s what Nigeria is asking for.”
