Mawuli Gavor, the Ghanaian actor has recalled the crucial moment that led him to leave his corporate career at KPMG for the entertainment industry.
Gavor revealed during an interview how he struggled to balance his demanding job at KPMG with his budding acting career, particularly while working on projects with Martini.
He stated that he earned a monthly salary of GH¢770 at KPMG, “I was making 770 cedis a month at KPMG,” on his words. He, however, spoke about how the creative industry offered more than just financial benefits as it offered freedom.
When Gavor decided to quit entertainment projects to focus on his stable KPMG position, the Martini team asked about his annual salary. After learning that he earned significantly less than they expected, they made a surprising offer: they would pay him his entire year’s KPMG salary in a single day for one project. This offer changed everything for Gavor. He recalled, “If somebody gave you your one-year salary in one day, not even one month, but one day…” – it was a game-changer.
Gavor immediately returned to his office and submitted his resignation letter to HR. He emphasised that the creative economy offers not just comparable income potential but significant time savings.
He noted how he scaled the offer as he could now earn the same amount of money working 30 minutes that would have previously required a full 9-to-5 workday at KPMG.
