    Boy, 19, kills girlfriend, dumps corpse by roadside

    There was pandemonium in Benin, the Edo State capital on Thursday as a 19-year-old boy identified as ‘Junior Omo Shaba’ killed his lover and left her corpse by the roadside.

    The incident happened at No. 2, Akugbe Street, Off Siluko road, Ogida, Egor local government area.

    It was learnt the deceased, Matilda Odiri, who is 18 years old was stabbed to death inside her boyfriend’s room during an argument.

    The deceased was said to have gone to her boyfriend’s house to spend the night when she was stabbed with a knife on her right upper breast.

    Witnesses said the victim was stabbed at about 11pm after she accused her boyfriend of having affairs with other girls

    The boyfriend reportedly dumped her body by the road side after killing her to cover his deeds.

    He was said to have fled when his father called in the police.

    Police sources said the suspect is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

    The police source said the suspect confessed that he murdered his lover and dumped her body on the street to cover his evil deed after an argument ensued between them at night.

    Shaba told the police that he killed his girlfriend with a knife which she used to peel some oranges they took that night.

    Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said it was a case of murder and the suspect would soon be arraigned in court.

    A 60-year-old married man, Salisu Nuhu on Tuesday dragged his girlfriend to court over her refusal to marry him.

    The complainant told the Magajin Gari Sharia Court II in Kaduna that the girl, Janet Baru had professed love to him and promised to convert to Islam so that they could get married, but later denied him after collecting huge amount of money from him.

    He added that the defendant connived with her friend, Juliet to dupe him of N30, 000 after making him believe that she would marry him.

    “I have been dating Janet for four years now and each time I visit her, I normally give her N1,000 or N2,000, and I have never touched her.

    “Her friend Juliet asked me to give Janet N40,000 to show my seriousness about marriage, but I was able to give her N30,000”, he said.

    He added that she requested him to meet her people in Benue which he declined but instead paid N5000 transport fare for her brother to come to Kaduna.

    Mr Nuhu explained that he had given Janet N45,000 during Christmas with a clothing material worth N8,000 and N2,000 for sewing.

    He therefore prayed to court to assist him in retrieving all the monies he spent on her.

    The defendant on her part, said they had only dated for a year and was only aware of receiving N75,000 from him out of the monies he mentioned.

    Janet told the court that she did not refund the money because he gave it to her as a gift not dowry.

    The Judge, Musa Sa’ad, after listening to both parties adjourned the case to July 17, for ruling.

    For allegedly breaking into a school to steal phones, two persons, Qudus Bello and Teslim Mukartdas, were on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    Bello, 19, a tailor, and Mukartdas, 15, a student, who are both residents of Oshodi, Lagos, were arraigned before the Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, on a four-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, damage and stealing.

    The duo, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

    Osunsanmi said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The accused committed the offences on April 29 at Oshodi Junior High School, Oshodi, Lagos, the Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court.

    He said the accused damaged the school’s ceiling, property of Lagos State Government.

    “The accused broke the ceiling to gain access into the Vice-Principal’s office to steal five phones, the values of which were yet to be ascertained.

    “Mukartdas, a student of the school came with Bello at night to steal the phones that were seized from some students and kept in the V.P’s office.

    “They also drank all the soft drinks in the V.P’s refrigerator,” Ayorinde alleged.

    Ayorinde said the following morning, the school received a tip-off from one of the students that the accused were behind the theft.

    “Mukartdas was questioned and he confessed that he burgled the V.P’s office because his girlfriend’s phone was among the seized phones.

    “The accused were arrested and handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.

    The offences contravened Sections 287, 307 (c), 350 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 307 (c) prescribes life jail term for burglary.

    The case was adjourned until June 27 for mention.

    Lagos-based comedian, Chinedu Paul, aka Think Twice, was identified as one of the three persons mistaken for members of the Badoo cult and lynched on Saturday by angry Ikorodu residents.The comedian’s girlfriend, Esther Demshak, is yet to recover from the shock of his brutal murder.

    TheNewsGuru reports that residents, who were keeping vigils, had identified a Honda C-RV with three inhabitants at about 2 am on Saturday in the Odogunyan area.They supposedly found in the vehicle some quantities of diesel and a big stone, usually used by Badoo members to smash the heads of their victims. After intense explanations, the community vigilantes, who were not contented with their clarifications, set them ablaze together with the car.

    Demshak the girlfriend of the deceased has been mourning ever since she heard the sad news. She took to her Facebook page to pay him tributes and shared pictures of the cherished moments they shared together.

    She wrote: “I can’t type anything because my hands are frozen. Thank you, Jesus. Baby, I love you. I will still tag you because I always tag you in all my posts, Chinedu Paul.

    She added after sharing a picture he shared earlier on the day he was gruesomely murdered

    “Baby u posted this in the morningU got back home just to see ur life taken.U said u have a gift for me before u went to fix our car

    Don’t worry, I came to collect the gift at Odogunyan.Don’t explain to me again, I understandI love u, baby.”

    The Cross River police command, has paraded a 35-year-old man, Sunday Ushie, who confessed to killing his girlfriend identified as Nnena Samuel and went ahead to have sex with the corpse.

    Mr Hafiz Inuwa, the acting Commissioner of Police in Cross River, who paraded the suspect before newsmen on Monday in Calabar, said the deceased was a mother of two.

    He said the incident happened on Jan. 27, 2017 at Adijinkpor village in Ikom Local Government Area of the state.

    “The incident happened on Jan. 27, 2017, following a report at Ikom Divisional Police headquarters from one Cletus Etta of Adijinkpor village that his tenant had killed someone.

    “Upon receiving this information, my men swung into action and arrested the suspect.

    “The suspect confessed to have killed the woman before having carnal knowledge of her.

    “Investigation is ongoing after which the suspect will be charged to court for murder,’’Inuwa said.

    The Commissioner appealed to members of the public to continuously avail the command with useful information that would help it respond to emergency cases promptly.

    In an interview with newsmen, Ushie, a cocoa farmer, said the deceased never gave him the opportunity to have sex with her while alive.

    He said he invited the deceased to his house and killed her with a knife before having sex with the corpse.

    Ushie, who said he regretted his action, blamed the incident on the devil.

    “It is the work of the devil. I do not know why the devil used me. I am the one that killed her. I killed her with a knife.

    “She was my girlfriend and I knew her for just two months before this incident happened. I had to sleep with her corpse after killing her.

    “It was strange sleeping with a corpse. I never had sex with her when she was alive because she never gave me that opportunity.

    “I was always giving her money but she didn’t allow me to have sex with her,’’ Ushie confessed.
