Akpabio must go – Nigerians react to Senator Natasha’s strong allegations against senate president

Your courage today is for you, the women of today and for the women of tomorrow. Watching your entire interview with Arise this morning, reaffirms my believe that Nigerians must only elect leaders ready for governance and not sexual exploitation(We all heard the recent voice note circulating the media space on a politician renting private jets to have fun with girls) and disregard for rule of law. This is not the first time Senator Akpabio has been alleged to commit sexual infractions against women. Sexual exploitation as it is today is on the rise and It happens in schools, offices and various places.”

@TheSerahIbrahim wrote: “Senator Natasha just accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and I am not surprised. Why would you frustrate a Senator because she refused to bed you I remember how he spoke and behaved beside Bianca Ojukwu. Always wanting other men’s wives. Shameless.”

@Maxajee wrote: “I think the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio should come out publicly and respond to Senator Natasha because these allegations are heavy. Picking up on a married woman is crazy and below any responsible man.”

@RBiakpara wrote: “Senator Natasha Akpoti has said what many have long suspected. For those who know Akpabio the Senate President, these accusations are not far-fetched but he has to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. What is worrying though, is the amount of hate-filled insults being thrown at Natasha, the supposed victim, who deserves the benefit of doubt until all has been investigated. You have to wonder people’s state of mind. Have they been so traumatised by politicians’ misrule as to make them so subhuman?”

@novieverest wrote: “In a sane country, what Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan just accused Godswill Akpabio of should be a very big issue. But watch her get the stick and scrutiny instead of Akpabio.”

@iamProjectP wrote: “In a sane clime, after this revelation by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senator Akpabio he should be resigning from his position as Senate President. But Nigeria is far from sanity so nothing like that will happen, instead the senator will pass a vote of confidence on him at their next sitting today. Nigeria is a joke.”

@bigmorsh wrote: “Facts: Senator Natasha violated rules of the Senate with her outburst at a recent plenary. Possibly out of frustration that had built up within her. But wrong will not be whitewashed as right. Highly speculative: Senate President made sexual advances toward Senator Natasha. Is she saying the truth? We don’t know. Is she lying? We also do not know. Since women have started deliberately making false rape accusations against men, it has become weaponized.”

@OfficialAzzaki wrote: “Senator Natasha’s revelation about Akpabio is disturbing but not surprising. Many face similar pressure in Nigerian politics, where power is abused, and voices are silenced. This must stop! I stand with Natasha and against political exploitation.”

If you take care of me, I will make you happy – Natasha blows hot, accuses Akpabio of proposing sexual affair to her

The Senator representing the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State in the National Assembly (NASS), Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, of soliciting a romantic relationship with her.

TheNewsGuru reports that Natasha during an interview on Arise TV on Friday, February 28, 2025 disclosed that Akpabio, made inappropriate advances towards her during a visit to his residence in Akwa Ibom.

Recounting the incident on Friday, the Kogi Central senator claimed that the encounter occurred in December, just a day before their respective birthdays.

“It all started the day before his birthday and my birthday because we are birthday mates. We were all in Akwa Ibom. At first, we were in his house at Ikot Ekpene. Then we all went to his house in Uyo, then he held my hands, walking around from room to room, he showed me the beautiful interiors.

“He got to this particular sitting room and asked me if I liked his house. I said of course, Sir, every room is beautiful, beautiful taste. And he said, Now you are a senator, I am going to create time for us to come create quality moments here. You will enjoy it.’ At that point, I just pulled away because I didn’t understand what he meant,” she said.

The Kogi senator further noted that since she rejected Apkabio’s sexual advances, the senate president has consistently undermined her role as a senator, including removing her from key committees and reassigning her Senate seat without notice.

She added that she had once visited Akpabio in his office, wherein the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State told her she would enjoy many benefits if she takes care of him.

Meanwhile, Natasha recently filed a 100 million naira suit against the office of the Senate President and Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The suit, marked CU/737/25 filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, also demands a public apology and a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing defamatory statements against her.

Senator Natasha has recently engaged in a series of confrontations with Senate President Akpabio, highlighting tensions within the Nigerian Senate.

Isah called Senator Natasha and the Senate President on the live show on Friday, February 21 but was only able to speak with the female Senator.

While Natasha responded to the call and alleged that she was victimised by the Senate leadership, the number Isah called for Akpabio did not pick three times.

It was later found that the number Isah called on the live programme did not belong to Akpabio.

The Brekete Family Radio/TV CEO was subsequently invited by the National Assembly to appear before the Senate.

Alleged disorderly conduct: Senator Natasha referred to Ethics Committee

The Senate on Tuesday referred Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi) to its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions over alleged disorderly conduct during a recent plenary session.

The committee, chaired by Sen. Neda Imaseun (LP, Edo), was mandated to turn in its findings in two weeks.

The upper chamber’s resolution was sequel to a voice vote after the lawmakers had revisited the controversy surrounding the recent altercation between Akpoti-Uduaghan and the senate leadership over seat allocation.

Coming under Order 1(b) and 10, the senate’s Spokesperson, Sen. Yemi Adaramodu, condemned what he described as Akpoti-Uduaghan’s “extreme intransigence” during the senate session on Feb. 20.

“From that Thursday, the media was awash with this issue and I had to work on mending the perception of the 10th senate.

“The senate is not a platform for content creation but a place for lawmaking and oversight functions,” he said.

Adaramodu urged the senate leadership to enforce discipline, warning that ‘where there is sin, there must be penalty’.

“This chamber is not a place for theatrics or social media content creation. We are here to legislate, advocate for our constituents and provide oversight over MDAs, not to engage in media dramatisation,” he said.

Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim (APC-Ondo) also supported the motion, emphasising the importance of maintaining order and decorum in the senate.

Ibrahim urged all senators to respect the institution’s guiding rules, comparing the Standing Orders to the Bible and Quran for lawmakers.

Also, the Senate Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, moved a motion for the disciplinary review, affirming the senate’s commitment to its rules and internal order.

According to him, there is no one who does not have an opinion on this issue, but we are unified by our rules.

“Under our watch, we will not allow this institution to be discredited beyond what we inherited. Our integrity is non-negotiable,” he said.

Bamidele dismissed claims that the dispute was rooted in gender bias or discrimination, citing examples of senior senators who had accepted seat changes without protest.

Contributing, the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, described the incident as “an avoidable drama” and apologised on behalf of Akpoti-Uduaghan.

He urged the senate to focus on its legislative responsibilities, while allowing the ethics committee to handle the matter.

Responding, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, directed the committee on ethics and privileges to review the entire incident and report back to the chamber in two weeks.

According to Akpabio, the senate rules allow members to sit anywhere, but that contributions must be made from their designated seats.

He said that lack of familiarity with the senate procedures might have contributed to the altercation.

“The first day she (Akpoti-Uduaghan) was sworn in, she stood up to contribute and I was worried if she had even read the rule book.

“There is nothing wrong with being vibrant but everything is wrong with disobeying procedures,” he said.

Citing Order 66(2) and Section 55 of Senate rules, he underscored the need for senators to conduct themselves with decorum, including prohibitions on chewing gum, drinking water or being disruptive during sittings.

“The rules empower the senate president to suspend a senator for infractions for, at least, 14 days. It’s not me who made the rules; it’s in the rule book,” Akpabio said.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that a Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President, Mfon Patrick was also joined in the N100 billion sexual harassment suit filed against Senator Akpabio by Senator Natasha.

Senator Natasha has recently engaged in a series of confrontations with Senate President Akpabio, highlighting tensions within the Nigerian Senate.

Natasha alleged that Akpabio has consistently undermined her role as a senator, including removing her from key committees and reassigning her Senate seat without notice.

She claims these actions culminated in the defamatory Facebook post, which she describes as a malicious attempt to tarnish her reputation.

The post, titled “Is Local Content Committee of the Senate Natasha’s Birthright?”, contained disparaging remarks about Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The post reportedly stated: “It is a bottled anger by the Kogi lawmaker, who knows nothing about legislative rules. She thinks being a lawmaker is all about ‘pancaking’ her face and wearing transparent outfits to the Chambers.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claims that the post was made at the request of Senate President Akpabio and has harmed her reputation.

She alleges that the publication has subjected her to public ridicule, resulted in the loss of business opportunities, and damaged her reputation among colleagues and constituents.

In the suit, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is seeking: “A declaration that the Facebook post is defamatory and has lowered her esteem in the eyes of the public and an order compelling the defendants to withdraw the publication and issue a public apology in a national daily newspaper.

“A perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing defamatory statements. N100 billion in general damages for the harm caused to her reputation and N300 million as the cost of legal action.”

The Claimant claims against the Defendants jointly and severally as follows:

She thinks being a lawmaker is all about pancaking her face and wearing transparent outfits to the Chambers’ is defamatory, provocative, disparaging, lowering in dignity the estimation of the Claimant in the eyes of her colleagues and right-thinking members of the public.

“An order of this honourable court compelling the Defendants to withdraw the said defamatory words and publication made against the Claimant immediately and to apologize to the Claimant in writing and publish same in one national daily newspaper widely circulated within the jurisdiction of this Court.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants whether acting by themselves, or through their agents, privies, assigns or associates from further publishing or causing to be published the said defamatory words herein stated or any other similar publications about the Claimant on the social media platform or in any other manner, which is capable of defaming the Claimant.

Ever since the “night club” incident , I’ve been pulled from many activities – Senator Natasha speaks on clash with Akpabio

The lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has opened up on some of the things she has been enduring following a recent clash with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The senator lamented her ordeal while speaking on the Brekete Family program, a Human Rights Radio and Television show hosted by Ahmed Isah, popularly known as “Ordinary President.”

“I have been going through a lot,” she stated during the live interview on Friday.

Recall the senator during plenary session on Thursday, clashed with Senate President Akpabio over a controversial seating arrangement.

The altercation began when Natasha discovered that her designated seat had been reassigned upon resumption of the Senate session. Refusing to comply with the change, she openly challenged the decision, leading to a heated exchange in the chamber.

During the Brekete Family program, Natasha further alleged that some of her parliamentary privileges had been unfairly withheld.

She said, “My attention was drawn that you were actually speaking about the issue on your program today, so thank you so much for your concern.

“I have been going through a lot and I have remained quiet because I didn’t want to be interpreted wrongly. I didn’t want any lawsuit against me.

“I just wanted to be given the chance to work. A lot of my previleges have been denied. I have been pulled out of many international activities that I have been part of since that whole night club incident that happened last year.

“Infact, there was even a United Nations event that I was supposed to attend which I was nominated for but my name was struck out. That they would not promote me in any event internationally.

“So every event that I have been going to since last year has been self sponsored.

Drama in senate as Kogi senator, Natasha, Akpabio clash during plenary session (video)

There was a mild drama on Thursday as a dispute over seating arrangements led to a heated exchange between lawmaker representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and the senate president, Godswill Akpabio.

Trouble began when Senator Natasha’s seat was relocated upon resumption of the session presided by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, but she refused to comply with the change.

The Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Ali Monguno had drew the attention of the Senate President to what he described as the “improper seating position” of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Monguno had hardly concluded a point of order, when Senator Natasha erupted in a loud confrontation, prompting the Sergeant-at-Arms to intervene and attempt to excuse her from the plenary.

In the midst of the turmoil, Akpabio’s efforts to restore order were met with resistance as the female senator demanded an explanation for the alteration of her seat without her approval.

“I don’t care if I am silenced. I am not afraid of you. You have denied me my privilege,” the Kogi lawmaker said.

The situation was eventually brought under control after the public address systems were turned off, allowing for a return to normal proceedings.

  • Umo Eno, Akpabio and the politics of 2027 – By Etim Etim

Umo Eno, Akpabio and the politics of 2027 – By Etim Etim

    By ETIM ETIM

The 2027 political season is arriving a bit too early in Akwa Ibom State, and as usual, the starting point is mudslinging and salacious political publications targeting at the incumbent governor and his predecessor. This week, an NGO, Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT) filed a petition at the EFCC and ICPC alleging that there was ‘’wanton corruption and embezzlement of public funds orchestrated by former governor Udom Emmanuel’’. The petition is dated January 21, 2025 and signed by its operational manager, Stanley Ugabe. A week before the petition was delivered to the anti-graft agencies; a group known as Concerned Members of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State, wrote an open letter to President Bola Tinubu in The Nation newspaper of Monday, January 13, 2025, in the form of an advertorial in which it made a number of spurious allegations against Gov. Eno; Udom Emmanuel and Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of Petroleum (Gas). The open letter alleges that the three leaders are scheming to support a PDP presidential candidate of Northern origin in 2027 and that their ultimate goal is to frustrate the reelection of President Tinubu.

The letter is copied to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; APC National Chairman, Abdullai Ganduje and NSA, Nuhu Ribadu. There are 10 signatories on the letter, representing the 10 federal constituencies in the state, but in actual fact, the names are all fictitious. I have been a prominent member of APC in Akwa Ibom State since November 2014 and participated in three governorship elections since 2015 as a communication strategist. I am in a position to know at least one of 10 persons who can buy a newspaper page for N1.2 million to place an open letter to the President. Those names do not just exist. I have been well informed from within the APC that the sponsors of the advertorial are the same as the brains behind the petition against Udom Emmanuel. Their objectives are to embarrass the former governor who is a PDP leader and the political godfather of Gov. Eno; make the governor look bad before the President and create problems for the governor and his reelection bid. The last paragraph of the advertorial says it all: ‘’Given your extensive experience in presidential politics, we trust that you won’t fall prey to Gov. Umo Eno’s deception. It’s time to activate plans to win Akwa Ibom State and secure your reelection’’. There is no single mention of the Senate President, who is the leader of APC in the South-South region, in the letter apart from indicating that he was in copy. That’s quite telling!

I have spoken to a lot of people within the APC in the state and I have discovered that the advertorial was sponsored by people with two major agenda: One, they are uncomfortable with the cordiality between the Senate President and the governor which was deliberately built by the governor, contrary to traditions. They are enraged by the simmering rumours within the APC that the governor might defect to the party, and that would upstage the existing political arrangement/structure in the APC. The second agenda is to stop the governor from going for second term. They do not necessarily believe that he would defect; but they want Akpabio to cut all ties with him and launch a political assault to weaken him and set the stage for APC to take over the state. The thinking within this group is that if Akpabio does not deliver the governorship seat to APC, his chance of being reelected Senate President would be slimmer. Akpabio is the only Senate President since 1999 to come from a state governed by an opposition party. Some party members believe that this is a major minus for him as far as 2027 is concerened, especially with Senator Oshiomhole poised to challenge him for the position.

The inclusion of Ekperikpe Ekpo in the publication is befuddling to many, especially those outside Akwa Ibom State. He is from the same senatorial district with Akpabio and was an Akpabio acolyte until the Senate President nominated him for the ministerial position and convinced President Tinubu to approve the appointment in spite of the need to spread appointments to other zones. But in recent months, there’ve been speculations of a frosty relationship developing between the Senate President and the Minister due to the latter’s perceived interest in gubernatorial politics. The Minister has reacted sharply to the advertorial, stating that he is not building any alliance with anybody to sabotage Tinubu’s reelection as alleged in the publication. Rather, he expressed his unalloyed loyalty to the President. Gov. Eno has also denied allegations of working against the President’s interest. The governor’s press secretary, Ekerete Udo wrote in a statement: ‘’The undisguised intent of the purveyors of the inane advertorial was to cause a strain in the widely acknowledged warm relationship the governor enjoys with President Tinubu; the Senate President and the Minister…the governor has not formed any such clandestine alliance as the group falsely and maliciously stated’’.

As for the petition to the EFCC and ICPC, neither Udom Emmanuel himself nor the governor has made any public statement. But, if history is our guide, I can tell how far this may go. In 2016, some persons, led by a lawyer who is now late, wrote a similar petition against Akpabio, alleging his misuse of security votes just as the accusation against Udom Emmanuel. It was Akpabio’s successor (Udom Emmanuel) who rose to defend Akpabio to the extent of filing a court case against the EFCC. The court ruled against the EFCC, barring it from investigating Akpabio’s tenure. Eight years later, Udom Emmanuel is a victim of a similar petition. How do you think his successor, Pastor Umo Eno, would manage the situation? History often repeats itself rather strangely in Akwa Ibom politics.

The tumult of 2027 is around the corner. I can only hope that the governor will brush this aside and concentrate on his agenda to the people.
