2023: APC group roots for Emefiele

A group, Emefiele Mobilization Team (EMT), says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, represents a unique opportunity to achieve peace, unity and development in the country if he runs for president.

The EMT is a group under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Team Leader and National Coordinator of EMT, Dr Jacob Attah, spoke at a news conference on Saturday in Lokoja on behalf of the National Executive Committee of the group.

According to him, the EMT is made up of patriots who have come together to showcase the leadership qualities of the CBN governor.

“For a man who was born in the South-West, schooled in the South-East and from the South-South, Dr. Emefiele represents a unique opportunity for peace, unity and development not just in Southern Nigeria but across Nigeria.

“We call on all patriots to stand up and be counted in the all important task of who becomes the next president of Nigeria and support the call for Dr. Godwin Ifeanyinchukwu Emefiele to run for the highest office in our nation.

“At a time when Nigeria is passing through a lot of economic and security challenges, we must bring in experience, dynamism, energy, equity and fairness in the choice of who becomes the next President of Nigeria.

“Over the past eight years at the helm of the affairs of the Nigeran apex bank, Emefiele has shown capacity, focus, courage and worked tirelessly with the economic team of President Mohammadu Buhari to keep the economy of our great country afloat above recession and outright collapse.

“His policies in the area of education, health, agriculture, industry and social credits have brought about positive transformation in these sectors and strengthened the Nigerian economy,” he said.

The coordinator stressed that Dr. Emefiele had done well as CBN governor, saying his policies have reflected in the growth of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and created lots of employment in all states of the federation.

“The Anchor Borrowers’ Scheme as one of Dr. Emefiele’s many achievements that benefitted over 4.8 million Nigerians spread across the country.

“Under the scheme, the CBN launched the brown revolution, an intervention aimed at boosting wheat value chain.

“Wheat is the most widely consumed commodity, after rice, and only one per cent of it is produced in Nigeria with about $2 billion spent annually on its importation.

“With this brown revolution, the CBN cut about 60 per cent of this importation cost and brought about 22.35 per cent and 23.78 per cent growth in GDP in the first and second quarters of 2021 alone,” Attah said.

He added that 150,000 farmers were beneficiaries cultivating 100,000 hectares, saying this had improved local production of wheat in line with the mandate of the government “to produce what we eat and eat what we produce“.

He explained that production of onions was another area where the people have benefitted immensely from the CBN’s policies under Emefiele.

According to him, Nigeria needs 2.5 million tonnes of onions yearly to meet national demand, but only 1.4 million tonnes are produced.

Attah said that the provision of loans under the scheme had assisted onion farmers in the North-central to make up for the 1.1million tonnes shortage.

“Cotton is the third commodity to join the Anchor Borrowers Scheme after rice and maize, with 15,000 cotton farmers securing loans to mention a few.

“This has significantly improved cotton production in the Nigeria.

“Rice farming has been supported and boosted by the ABP as well; over 1.8 million farmers in Nigeria received seedling, fertiliser, herbicides, pesticides, water pumps and more with beneficiaries from across the country.

“For now, Emefiele is focused on his assignment as the governor of the CBN.

“We use this opportunity to caution those who may wish to carry out actions or make statements capable of distracting him from delivering on his national assignment as the head of Nigeria’s apex bank”.

He called on all patriots to stand up and be counted in the all-important task of who becomes the next President of Nigeria and support the call for Emefiele to run for the highest office in our nation.

The national coordinator said that the youth population would be adequately carried along in all the process.

2023: Nigerian professionals drum support for Emefiele demanding he should declare now

A group under the umbrella of Nigerian Patriotic Quest, NPQ has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele to immediately declare his intention to run for the 2023 presidential race.

The group of professionals both at home and in the diaspora in a statement signed by the co-ordinator, Ahmed Ja’Usman Tijani said:

“We the members of the Patriotic Quest (NPQ), a group of Nigerian professionals, mostly based in the diaspora, wish to declare for the umpteenth time that the moment is now for Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele to join the race for the presidency of Nigeria.

“We will continue to make this call because Nigeria is now at a crossroads and will require the care and nurture of a man like Godwin to take her to the promised land of rapid development.
In the past two decades, Nigerians have entrusted their fate in the hands of professional politicians with barely anything to show for it.

“If we must be honest to ourselves, we can say without any fear of contradiction, that the professional politicians have succeeded in running the nation aground.

“We have witnessed a relay race of politicians handing over the baton of leadership from one uneventful administration to the other.

    “Our patience is totally exhausted.
We seek a new shift in leadership from the old to the new.

“We are not carried away by the rhetorics of the old brigade who are now catwalking the national walkways in order to sell to us their expired recipes.
    Enough is enough!

“It is time for this nation to support and encourage the emergence of a new type of leadership.
“We yearn for the advent of the servant leader; who is there to serve and not to be served and celebrated.

“We need leaders who are ready to get their hands dirty in order to wash away the dross of over 50 years of misrule.
We believe that Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele falls squarely into the mold of leadership that the nation deserves at this time.

“We have watched, with great admiration, his dexterous and self-effacing management of the affairs of the CBN.

“We are astonished by the skillful manner with which the CBN intervened in the major sectors of the economy: agriculture, finance, industries, etc.

“Only recently, as Nigeria is once again enmeshed in the man-made tragedy of fuel scarcity and power failures, we read of his intention to use the instruments of the CBN to try and bring succour to our long suffering compatriots.

“This is the hallmark of a leader.
What distinguishes a great leader from others, is his ability to proffer solutions; that capacity to visualise and pursue relentlessly the vision that things could and would be better.

“If Godwin can make all these positive impact as the Governor of CBN, which is just a department in the huge edifice of governance, how much more if he becomes the President of the country.
We have said it repeatedly that the professional politicians, some of whom have become permanent fixtures of government in the past 20 years or more, with little or nothing to show for it, should respectfully step back and allow the new leadership to emerge.

“As a nation moves from one challenge to the other, it must evolve the right strategy to overcome those difficulties.
We have arrived at the point where the old solutions have failed woefully.

“Therefore, it is time to try the new and we, humbly assert, that Emefiele is in the vanguard of the new solutions.
Nigeria, at this time, needs a leader with a track record of achievements in management, entrepreneurship, and economy and has the right exposure to seat at the same table with the leading lights of the global economy.

“Nigerians! it is time for us to throw away the limiting baggage of ethnic, religious, and money politics and embrace a new way of doing things, if not for our sake but for the sake of our children’s children.

“The 2023 elections offers us a golden opportunity to begin the journey of repentance and recovery.
We simply cannot afford to repeat the errors of the past.

2023: Group bombs PDP for calling for Emefiele’s resignation

A group under the aegis of Nigerian Patriotic Quest, NPQ has slammed the opposition party, PDP over its call for the resignation of CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The support association in a statement titled: Re: ‘PDP Demands Emefiele’s Resignation over partisan posture’ signed by its national coordinator, Ahmed Ja’Usman Tijani said:

“We are, indeed, surprised that a National Publicity Secretary of PDP will at this time believe that running down Emefiele is the best way to re-energise their ineffective opposition politics of the past 7 years.

“We are convinced that the publicity secretary may be serving the interests of some puppeteers, who may not necessarily be members of the PDP, who feel threatened by the ever-rising profile of the CBN Governor.

Re: PDP Demands Emefiele’s Resignation over partisan posture

A rejoinder by Nigerian Pariotic Quest to the press release issued by Debo Ologunagba, PDP Publicity Secretary, as published in the Peoples Gazette of March 26, 2022.

We are forced to issue this rejoinder, despite the fact that, ideally, the vituperations are undeserving of the consideration of any serious minded person.

We are also compelled to come up with this response knowing that the subject of this slanderous essay, Godwin Emefiele, being a very humble, dedicated and self effacing public servant may not be in a position to rebut these lies.

After reading through the press release by the PDP Publicity Secretary, we are forced to assert that these are the products of a mischievous and over-excited imagination.

We are shocked by the deliberate distortion of facts and indeed by the ignoble attempt to deceive the public, through the countless repetition of empty allegations.

Our interest in this matter is based on the fact that we are a prominent campaigner for Emefiele to be part of the presidential contest come 2023. We owe no one any apology for this, and we will continue to affirm that Emefiele is the type of leader that this nation needs now.

We are, indeed, surprised that a National Publicity Secretary of PDP will at this time believe that running down Emefiele is the best way to re-energise their ineffective opposition politics of the past 7 years.

We are convinced that the publicity secretary may be serving the interests of some puppeteers, who may not necessarily be members of the PDP, who feel threatened by the ever-rising profile of the CBN Governor.

The baselessness of these allegations is underlined by the fact that at no time has Emefiele declared himself to be a presidential candidate of the APC. To further expose this hatchet job for what it is, there is no single poster of Emefiele with the insignia of APC on it.

In order to emphasise the ridiculousness of Ologunagba’s assertions, the poster he presented in his press release to support his allegation bears no APC symbol or logo on it. This is the efforts of a man who is ready to concoct all sorts of lies in order to achieve his preconceived objectives. Perhaps, he was emboldened by the assumption that Nigerians will not take the time to verify his empty allegations.

The fact remains that Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele never appeared in any APC poster till date.
We dare say, that if any such poster appears overnight starting from now, it will be the handiwork of Mr. Ologunagba and his cohorts, who knowing that they have been exposed, may resort to producing such materials in order to cover their shame.

The very unfounded basis of his major allegations against Emefiele has also put the lie to all other accusations in his press release.

Emefiele in his position as CBN governor, to all objective observers, have performed his duties with a great sense of patriotism, dedication and none partisanship. Indeed, the benefits of the CBN’s economic interventions and policies cut across political or geographical boundaries.

This is the main reason why his efforts have been acclaimed across the country; and this is why we and a generality of citizens believe that he is the most suitable candidate for the post of president come 2023.

All the other financial allegations spewed out in the press release are indeed laughable and are products of a man who does not understand the structure and operations of the CBN.

We believe that the time has come when some of these fabricators of lies and mischief should be brought, as individuals before the law, in order to substantiate their reckless allegations or suffer the consequences of these brazen attempts to soil the reputation of an innocent man.

The Nigerian Patriotic Quest remain undaunted in our support of the candidacy of Emefiele in the 2023 elections and we strongly reiterate our position that Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele should answer this call of destiny at this time for the betterment of both the present and future generations of Nigeria.

The antics of the naysayers will never deter us, rather it increases our determination to accomplish this patriotic duty.

Those who are afraid of the candidacy of Emefiele because of the positives and possibilities that it holds for Nigeria should know that the end has come for their politics of divisiveness and plunder. A word is enough for the wise.

PARTISAN POLITICS: PDP calls for immediate resignation of CBN Gov, Emefiele

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has demanded the immediate resignation and investigation of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, for engaging in partisan politics to the extent of appearing in APC campaign posters.

PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said the campaign posters confirmed the CBN Governor’s partisan affiliation and entanglement with the APC, describing it as the height of impunity of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The major opposition party said the action amounts to poking its fingers in the eyes of Nigerians and daring them to do their worse.

The statement in part read: “this action by Mr. Emefiele is contrary to the provision of Section 9 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act which provides that the governor and the deputy governors shall devote the whole of their time to the service of the bank and while holding office, shall not engage in any full or part-time employment or vocation, whether remunerated or not.

“By engaging in partisan politics to the extent of appearing in APC campaign posters, Mr. Emefiele has knowingly and deliberately violated the provision of the CBN Act stated above.

“Mr. Emefiele has also desecrated the sanctity of his office as CBN Governor, compromised the integrity of the apex bank, stripped it of the confidence reposed in it by Nigerians and the International Community and as such, cannot legitimately continue to hold and function in that office.

“This further confirms that under Mr. Emefiele, the CBN, as the custodian of our national economy, has become an appendage and cash cow of the APC in their reckless pillaging of our national resources, the resultant effect of which is now evident in the near collapse state of our economy”.

  • Dangote fertiliser plant will boost economic growth – Buhari

Dangote fertiliser plant will boost economic growth – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said the 2.5 billion dollar Dangote Fertiliser Plant located in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos will boost foreign exchange earnings and accelerate economic growth for Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports President Buhari made this known on Tuesday while inaugurating the three million metric tonnes per annum urea production plant.

“This fertiliser plant is further expected to enhance our administration’s drive towards achieving self-sufficiency in food production in the country.

“I commend the Chairman, Board and Management of Dangote Industries Ltd., for their business initiative in establishing this plant.

“It will reduce our dependence on importation of fertiliser, create jobs, increase the inflow of foreign exchange and accelerate economic growth,” Buhari said.

According to him, the establishment of the plant demonstrates the commitment of Dangote Industries Ltd. to the socio-economic development of the country and the well-being of Nigerians.

The president expressed optimism that the investment in the plant would replicate the group’s earlier experience in the cement sector where it had become a leading name in Nigeria and across the African continent.

He said: “Dangote Industries Ltd. has created thousands of jobs across Nigeria. It is the second biggest employer of labour in this country after the Federal Government.

“This is very pleasing because job creation by the private sector will help to improve security and take thousands of youths off the streets.”

The president said the nation also stood to gain extensively in forex earnings through excess production and exports from the plant.

“I am informed that you have already started exporting to other countries including the United States, India and Brazil.

“The coming on stream of the plant is creating huge opportunities in the area of job creation, trade, transport and logistics to earn significant wealth, reduce poverty and help to secure the future of our nation,” said Buhari.

He noted that the agricultural sector was a critical aspect of the economy and availability and affordability of fertiliser would lead to increased yields for farmers.

Buhari added that he was expecting a rise of new breeds of ‘agropreneurs’ who would take to farming and make the nation self-sufficient in food production.

He said: “I want to assure all Nigerians that our government is focused on providing the enabling environment for the private sector to thrive.

“We will continue to improve on infrastructure, power and security and other initiatives that will drive investments in our economy.

“Furthermore, we are partnering with the private sector through a tax credit scheme for the rehabilitation of roads across Nigeria under Executive Order Seven.

“We know good roads contribute to easy movement of goods and services across the nation thus reducing the cost of doing business and improving productivity.

“We are also rehabilitating our railway lines and building new ones to lessen the burden on our roads and create an effective modern transportation network.”

Mr Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), lauded the Buhari-led administration for the support to end the shortage of fertiliser in the country.

Emefiele noted that this had led to a significant increase of active fertiliser blending plants in Nigeria from seven in 2015 to 48 in 2022.

He said the import bill on fertiliser had not only dropped significantly but the country was now earning forex through the exportation of fertiliser.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the Lekki Free Trade Zone was conceived by former Governor Bola Tinubu in 2003 to attract investments to the state.

He said the free trade zone today was host to Dangote Fertiliser Plant, which was the largest fertiliser plant in Africa and the second-largest in the world.

The governor said there was also the 650,000BPD Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Plant and the Lekki Deep Sea Port within the same axis, making it a prime investment destination.

On their part, Mr Niyi Adebayo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment and Dr Mohammad Abubakar, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development enjoined other companies to emulate the strides of Dangote Industries Ltd.

Earlier, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President, Dangote Industries Ltd., said the fertiliser plant would drastically reduce the level of unemployment and youth restiveness through the generation of direct and indirect employments.

Dangote said: “Agriculture accounts for over 20 per cent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product, and the country is a leading producer of various agricultural commodities.

“The sector has the potential of becoming the biggest source of income for our nation, providing employment and raw materials for industries.

“However, low fertiliser usage has been a major reason for low productivity in the sector.

“It is common knowledge that nonavailability of the product, in quantity and quality, rather than affordability, is the primary constraint to the use of fertiliser.

“Our goal is to make fertiliser available in sufficient quantities and quality for our teeming farmers, assuring greater agricultural output.”

  • CBN disburses N1.3 trn to support power supply in 5 years

CBN disburses N1.3 trn to support power supply in 5 years

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it has disbursed over N1.3 trillion to support the provision of power supply to Nigerians in the last five years.

The CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, made the remark at a news conference following a meeting of the Bankers Committee in Abuja on Monday.

“So, what we are trying to say here is that the CBN has always been there to support the power sector.

    ‘’Like you all know, we have disbursed over 1.3 trillion naira in the last five years to support through the Generators or Discos or to acquire equipment or to buy meters or to improve what is being paid to electricity generating companies;

‘’So that they can continue to pay for their gas and then the system can continue to operate.’’

Emefiele further said that the bank had disbursed N11.11 billion to power sector players under the Nigeria bulk electronic trading payments assurance facility, bringing the cumulative disbursement under this facility to 1.28 trillion naira.

‘’The sum of N12.64 billion was also released to Discos under Nigeria electricity market stabilisation facility phase two line two.

“Community disbursement under names two, first stand at 232.93 billion naira.

“Both interventions were designed to improve access to capital and ease development of enabling infrastructure in the Nigeria electricity supply chain sector,’’ he added.

Emefiele, however, pledged the apex bank’s commitment to continue to support Distribution Companies (DISCOs) to provide stable power supply to Nigerians.

He said that the apex bank would be engaging with the Power Minister and NERC to see what could be done to support them.

Emefiele also said that the bank would be providing interventions for the NNPC to ensure they import petroleum products that would end the shortage in the country.

He noted that the Minister of Finance was holding engagements with Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to see to what could be done to ensure that adequate funding was provided to make petroleum products adequately available in the country.

“We are also saying we will be engaging NNPC ourselves, if there’s any kind of intervention that we can provide to help make it easy for them to bring in these products, so that this shortage can stop.

“Then we will see that when supply increases, people are relatively confident that when they sell whatever they’re holding, be it petrol or diesel that they can easily go and replace them, then the arbitrary price increases will reduce.

“When arbitrary price reduces, of course, we can begin to see that there will be gradual moderation in the price of this product.

’’This would ultimately result in the moderation in the prices of other products that its price would have gone up as a result of the arbitrary increase in the price of these items.

“This is simply how we think CBN can work with them,’’ he said.

Emefiele, therefore, urged NNPC to take urgent steps to ensure adequate supply of petroleum products in Nigeria, so as to reduce the rate of arbitrary increase in price of this petroleum products by oil marketers.

He also noted the unprecedented rate of oil theft recorded in recent times and its debilitating impact on government revenue and the nation’s reserve.

“In the medium term, MPC is hopeful that a proposed take-off of the Dangote Refinery in the course of the year would help to improve the supply of petroleum products in Nigeria.

“MPC also noted that the rising price of diesel is compounded by the problem of inadequate electricity supply in Nigeria, which has adversely impacted domestic prices.

“MPC advises the CBN management and fiscal authorities to take specific and urgent action to avoid many power generating stations shut down for turnaround maintenance, resulting in the current unwarranted shutdown of our generated assets,’’ Emefiele said.

2023: Northern group declares support for Godwin Emefiele

A group under the aegis of Unified Northern Nigeria Youth Forum (UNNYF), has declared support for the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele’s bid to become the next President of Nigeria, come 2023.

This is coming on the heels of the call on Nigerians by the former Governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi, to ensure they vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) without which he said the country could not move forward.

Speaking to newsmen in Minna, Niger state capital at the weekend after road walk,by members of the group, their Director-General Dr Ibrahim Bature, said “the CBN Governor is the best man to turn Nigeria’s economy.”

While insisting that an Igbo Presidency, come 2023 is for equity, fairness and justice Bature said that the CBN Governor had proven his worth and therefore wants the entire north and Nigerians in general to support him.

Members of the the group want their fellow northerners and Nigerians in general to rally round Emefiele, considering his policies that had rejuvenated the nation’s economy, especially in agricultural sector now contributing tremendously to the GDP.

As financial expert and seasoned economist, Emefiele, if elected, will replicate those impactful policies in other sectors of economy for the betterment of the country.

Emefiele is a southerner with a large heart, compassion for the north championed Northern Renaissance in his national economic policies, hence the declaration of 100 percent support for him.

In a related development, former Governor Peter Obi said only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could return Nigeria to socioeconomic normalcy next year.

Obi, who said he is in Minna on a private visit on Sunday, lamented the economic stagnation and hardship inflicted on Nigerians by the President Buhari led APC government.

Peter Obi also told journalists that though he was interested in contesting, he would willingly support whoever emerges PDP candidate, come 2023 Presidency.

Our Correspondent, however, gathered that Obi’s visit might not be unconnected with the crisis rocking the state PDP, hence his intervention to broker peace.

Former Governor Obi was accompanied to Minna, by the former Governors of Kaduna and Niger state, Dr. Munzu Babangida Aliyu.

  • Reasons why Godwin Emefiele must run for 2023 presidential election – By Ossai Eke

Reasons why Godwin Emefiele must run for 2023 presidential election – By Ossai Eke

    By Ossai Eke

Godwin Emefiele’s silence so far on his intentions in 2023 is not making many of his supporters across the world to be happy.

His silence has generated so much heat that a group last Friday came out to ask President Muhammadu Buhari to fire him from office if he fails to run for the presidency in 2023.

In the buildup to the 2023 elections, it is both the inescapable responsibility and unavoidable obligation of each and every Nigerian, as engaged citizen and committed patriot, to actively participate in the leadership recruitment exercise this time around.

Such an approach to politics, politicking, electioneering and elections will go a long way in ensuring we do not end up with the wrong kind of leader going forward. For us, this task is not a difficult one at all for in current Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emiefele, we have just the right sort of man to steer the ship of the Nigerian state to its destiny.

Since his emergence as Central Bank Governor, Emiefele has painstakingly kept watch to ensure that all the critical sectors of our national economy are sustained even against overwhelmingly daunting odds.

Indeed, Emiefele’s exploits in agriculture, alone are achievements of global significance and especially so when situated within the context of a peculiar food market like Nigeria.

Indeed, his feats in the area of food production are all the more impressive given that for decades now – in fact, more or less, since Independence in 1960 – Nigeria’s agricultural output, as well as its food security profile have been on a consistent and most alarming downward spiral only very recently reversed by Emiefele’s policy choices and the doggedness with which he has deployed innovative strategies toward their implementation.

This sustained attention to the grassroots in the management of an economy beset by multiple stresses has led to the quiet but steady emergence of surprisingly numerous successes in small and medium enterprises, even as many large industries have not only remained afloat but continue to thrive and expand in a tough economic environment.

Who would have imagined that any sort of pyramids of agricultural produce could ever be seen again in our country? Emiefele somehow succeeded in stimulating their reemergence from directly empowered farmers across the nation while unveiling them in just the right circumstances to reignite hope that we are, after all, a nation of promise, indeed!

Emiefele’s astounding mettle perhaps most impressively crystalizes in his preference for directly ensuring that the staples of macroeconomic management are processed in such manner as to always end up impacting even the very smallest participants in the economy.

From interventions in agriculture and artisanship through empowerment of petty traders to expansion of credit availability, our national economy has witnessed what fundamentally amounts to the democratisation of central banking. Indeed, under Emiefele, we have witnessed the transformation of the CBN from what was effectively a quasi-elitist institution, stuck in archaic preoccupations with big banking, forex and international markets in fidelity to erroneous trickle down paradigms which proved to be woefully elusive, into a bulwark of the common man and bank of the people.

Emiefele’s CBN is at once the premier monetary institution of world standard and regulator of international significance and yet, at the same time, a nationwide community bank willing and able to interact with the man in the street while beneficially impacting the lives and livelihoods of numberless scores of our country men and women in the process.

It has, in fact, become a sterling example of taking governance to the doorsteps of the people by bringing the complexities of macroeconomics down to the household level of bread and butter home economics.

Quite apart from astounding us with achievements we thought were now lost to us forever as a nation, Emiefele has not only succeeded in bringing the long excluded within the rehabilitative ambit and empowering ambience of virile economic participation but done so in an era of excruciatingly lean resources.

It is extremely difficult to find that genuine Nigerian businessman engaged in legitimate endeavours that has a valid complaint against Emiefele and, it is not at all a surprise he is the choice of corporate Nigeria to be our next President.

Ironically, in spite of his remarkable successes in keeping our economy afloat, staving off financial collapse and, expanding domestic commerce, while enhancing exports, it is not the high and mighty of our country that have by any means been the chief beneficiaries of Emiefele’s stewardship but, in fact, the common man and woman, who have remained his studious focus throughout his term!

It is a rare thing for President Muhammadu Buhari to retain someone from the preceding administration. The fact that Mr. President not only retained Emiefele but developed a close working relationship with him while obviously reposing much confidence in his ability as a central banker and monetary czar is a testament to Emiefele’s towering competence, dependable probity and astonishing resourcefulness.

Our President, despite the shenanigans, disinformation, misinformation and manipulations of the naysayers, has done his best and, in fact, done quite well in the assessment of those who know their onions and refuse to play politics with everything. In the face of truly gargantuan challenges, bewildering dislocations and totally unforseen and indeed, unforseeable circumstances, the Buhari administration has succeeded in deepening democracy and keeping our country in one piece, while steadily impacting agriculture, infrastructure, economic inclusiveness and myriad other sectors of our economy and national life.

As we seek a worthy successor to our President, we would do well to recruit one who does not fritter away his achievements and takes our country back to an Egypt of corruption and incompetence. Indeed, it is our collective duty as a nation to ensure that we end up with a servant-leader capable of consolidating on what has been attained thus far and surpassing it in every material particular.

If it is an affable, humble, sensitive and sensible fellow we seek as our next President, our current Central Bank Governor fulfills those specifications. If it is a grassroots oriented fellow who nevertheless has the grit, guts and genius to deliver on the Presidency that we require, Godwin fits the bill. If it is an uncomplicated leader bereft of controversy and devoid of the excess baggage of scandal and opprobrium that we desire, Ifeanyichukwu is our man.

If it is a man of easily verifiable achievements, unprecedented attainments and uncommon accomplishments that we are looking for to finally take our country into its true destiny, then Emiefele for President, come 2023.

Indeed, for a man who has consistently showcased an ability to record achievements we were beginning to believe could never again be attained in our national economy, we indeed have in Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emiefele, a Central Bank Governor we are quite sure of. It is time to make him a President we can all be proud of.

In a statement on its website, the CBN said that the release of the guidelines is in furtherance of its mandate to promote a sound financial system in Nigeria.

CBN stated it is part of its collaborative efforts with the Banker’s Committee to reduce cost and improve operational efficiency in the country’s cash management.

“The CBN, in collaboration with the Banker’s Committee, initiated the Nigerian Cash Management System which seeks to reduce cost and improve operational efficiency in the country’s cash management value chain.

“One initiative towards the stated goal is the introduction of BNCH.

“BNCHs are cash collection centers to be established by registered processing companies or Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) based on business needs.

“They will be located in areas with high volumes of commercial activities and cash transactions,” the apex bank said.

It added that the hubs would provide platforms for customers to make cash deposits and receive value irrespective of the bank with which their accounts are domiciled.

“This guideline aims to provide minimum standards and requirements for BNCH registration and operations for effective supervision.

“The key objective is to reduce the risks and cost borne by banks, merchants, and huge cash handlers in the course of cash management activities.

“It will also deepen financial inclusion and leverage on shared services to enhance cash management efficiency,” it said.

According to the CBN guidelines, a BNCH is permitted to carry out activities like receipt of Naira denominated deposits on behalf of financial institutions from individuals and businesses with high volumes of cash.

“It can also carry out high volume cash disbursement to members of the public on behalf of financial institutions, and any other activities that may be permitted by the CBN.

“But it is not permitted to carry out investing or lending activities, or receive, disburse, or engage in any transaction involving foreign currency,” the statement asserted.

Calling on eligible promoters like DMBs and Cash Processing Companies (CPCs) to apply for registration of BNCH, the apex bank said “prospective promoters of BNCH shall apply in writing to the Director, Currency Operations Department.”

CBN gov, Emefiele reveals plans to decongest Apapa,Tincan Island ports

Mr Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says the commencement of the Lagos Free Zone (LFZ) will help overcome the Apapa-Tincan Island port congestion.

Emefiele said this when he visited the facility on Saturday in Itoke Village, Ibeju-Lekki Area, Lagos State.

The entire 850 hectares free trade zone, acquired about 15 years ago, will commence operations in September 2022.

“Ladies and gentlemen, right here, and I’m sure you went round with us, you saw the entire fabric of what is happening in this zone, It has a port.

”And I’m sure we all know that one of the biggest problems in Nigeria today is congestion of the Apapa and Tincan Island Ports; we have been crying about what needs to be done to decongest that area.

“In fact, it got to the point where Mr President gave a mandate that it must be cleared, but because of certain structural problems in that Apapa and Tincan area, we have not been able to clear those containers.

“So, we are really saying that the Lagos port operation in conjunction with Chinese investors would be commencing operation sometime around September this year.

“It gladdens our hearts because it will totally decongest the problems that we have in Apapa and Tincan which are really at the Central of Lagos.

“And we have been clamouring that there is need for us to have more ports where goods can come in easily and then export can go out easily without any hindrance in line with the way it is done in different parts of the world.

“And seeing what I have seen today about your port operations that is about to commence in September, I am truly salivating to see that this starts as quickly as possible,” Emefiele said.

The CBN governor further said that the bank would ensure it did everything possible to make the environment friendly for companies and businesses to thrive.

“So, we’re looking into how to make sure that the policy regulations are reviewed; we have our concerns about how free trade zones operate either tax exemptions or duty free exemptions and the rest of them.

“We would like to work with you to see how we would create a clear demarcation that separates companies that operate as free trade zones or operating in free trade zone from those that will not operate as free trade zone.

“Whereas you will also find that a company may want to operate as a free trade zone and at the same time operate the other way. So, we need to demarcate how this will work, such that it will not result in loss of revenue,” he said.

Emefiele also said that the apex bank would partner the state government and the Federal Ministry of Works to see how Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria could ensure cargo evacuation from the port area, describing it as a big issue.

He said the CBN had raised about N23 billion to fund road infrastructure, to facilitate smooth evacuation of cargo out of the port.
